Darktide Beginner Guide: Teamplay, Threats and Survival
Improve your first Darktide missions with a clear plan for team spacing, threat awareness, melee defense and shared supplies.

In this guide 4 sections
In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, staying useful to the squad matters more than collecting every nearby elimination. Your first goal is to recognize when the team is moving, when it is holding and which threat needs an immediate response.
Fatshark's official Darktide site is the reference for the game and current updates. Build your beginner routine around the class and weapons available in your client rather than assuming an older talent setup is unchanged.
Keep teammates within a practical response distance
Before following a distant target, look at the squad. Can someone help if you are disabled or cornered? Can you return without crossing another group of enemies?
Our recommended habit is to check team positions after each engagement. Move with a clear destination and avoid being the last person looting a room after the squad has left. If you need a moment for supplies, communicate it.
Treat melee defense as a core skill
Practice recognizing when to attack and when to defend or reposition. Against ordinary enemies, observe the attack animation rather than holding one input until the encounter ends.
Create space before committing to a longer action. If you keep taking damage during the same weapon sequence, change the timing or position before assuming the weapon itself is unusable.
Prioritize the threat that disrupts the team
A dangerous enemy is not always the nearest one. Listen and look for threats that deny space, disable players or prevent the group from advancing. Mark what you identify and make a concise call.
Avoid chasing a target through an unsafe route just because it is important. Consider whether a teammate has a better angle while you keep nearby pressure under control.
Share supplies with a plan
Check the squad's condition before taking resources. Discuss where a deployed supply would help the group complete the next section, rather than using it only because it is available.
When a mission fails, review the first moment the team lost control. Was it separation, an ignored threat or several players committing to the same task? Correct that decision in the next run.
Increase challenge when the squad's survival and objective habits feel dependable. A difficult clear is more repeatable when everyone understands what kept the group alive.
