EVE Online Beginner Guide: Careers, Ship Fits and an ISK Reserve
Choose an EVE career, prepare a focused ship fit and build a replacement reserve before taking bigger risks in New Eden.

In this guide 5 sections
EVE Online offers many careers, but a new pilot does not need to pursue all of them at once. Start by choosing an activity that interests you, then learn the ship, skills and risks involved in doing it repeatedly.
CCP's EVE Academy organizes beginner information around careers and points players toward Career Agents and The Agency. These are useful starting references when you do not yet know which activity fits your play style. EVE Academy
Choose an activity before choosing a ship
A ship is a tool for a job. Decide whether you want to explore, fight, gather resources or make things before browsing for a larger hull.
Write a simple requirement list for that activity: what the ship must do, which modules it needs and which skills support those modules. A bigger ship with an incomplete fitting plan can be less useful than a smaller one you understand.
Check the entire fit
Before undocking, inspect whether every planned module is fitted and usable. Confirm that the ship has the supplies the activity requires and that your controls are comfortable.
Read what each module contributes. If two choices solve the same problem, compare them against a missing function rather than filling slots automatically.
Keep replacement money separate
Estimate the cost of replacing both the hull and the fitted equipment. Keep that amount outside the budget for optional upgrades.
This is a risk-management recommendation, not a claim that any area is perfectly safe. Avoid putting your entire reserve into the first ship capable of entering a new activity.
Learn a route before scaling it
Try a modest version of the activity and note where time or equipment is lost. Improve the repeatable process before buying a more expensive setup.
After a loss, review the circumstances: route choice, attention, fit or a misunderstood mechanic. Identify one change that would have improved the outcome.
Use current official training material
CCP has revised early skill plans, so screenshots from old tutorials may use different labels. Official early skill-plan update
A good opening milestone is being able to explain your ship's job, replace it and complete a familiar activity without guessing which button matters. From there, choosing a corporation or a more specialized career becomes a more informed decision.
