Hearthstone Beginner Guide: Build a Deck with a Clear Win Condition
Learn how to choose a Hearthstone deck, plan a mana curve and review decisions before spending crafting resources.

In this guide 5 sections
A useful Hearthstone deck has a plan you can explain. Before adding individually powerful cards, decide how the deck expects to win and what it needs to survive long enough to do so.
Blizzard presents both constructed play and modes such as Battlegrounds, where you do not bring a built deck. This guide concerns a constructed deck; check the selected format before following a card list. Official Hearthstone overview
Describe the win condition
Try one sentence: pressure the opponent early, survive and gain value, or assemble a particular interaction. Then inspect whether the cards in the deck support that sentence.
If several cards require different situations to be useful, the deck may be trying to do too many things. Replace a card because it improves the plan, not simply because its rarity looks impressive.
Look at the early turns
Review the costs in your deck and imagine several possible opening hands. Can you make useful plays before the expensive cards become available?
A mana curve is a planning tool, not a requirement to use every crystal on every turn. Sometimes holding an answer is stronger than playing it without a target. The important habit is considering what your next turn will look like.
Practice the mulligan for one matchup
Identify the opening cards that help your plan against the opponent you see. Do not keep a costly favorite automatically.
After the match, ask whether the initial hand gave you a workable start. Separating mulligan decisions from later draw luck helps reveal what you could actually improve.
Craft only after checking the full list
Confirm that the deck is legal in your intended format and that you can obtain its essential pieces. Substituting one key interaction may change how the whole list functions.
Avoid spending all resources on a single card before checking the remaining cost. Try available premade options or a cheaper working version while deciding which style you enjoy.
Review a decision, not just the result
Choose one turn where multiple lines were possible. Compare what each line protected against and what information you had at the time.
A loss does not prove the decision was wrong, and a win does not prove it was right. Learning to evaluate the available choices is more durable than chasing whichever deck was strongest before the latest update.
