Helldivers 2 Beginner Guide: Stratagems, Squad Jobs and Safer Extractions
Choose a balanced Helldivers 2 loadout, coordinate stratagem calls and plan extraction with a practical routine for your first squad missions.

In this guide 4 sections
A useful Helldivers 2 loadout answers the mission's problems and fits the squad around it. Four players bringing impressive equipment is less helpful when nobody has planned how those tools work together. Start with a loadout you understand, then build a routine for calling it safely.
Choose tools with different jobs
PlayStation's official cadet guide divides stratagems into categories including Eagle, Orbital, Backpack, Support Weapon, Defensive and Vehicle options. It also explains that stratagem unlocks use Requisitions through the Ship Management Terminal. The guide is a useful reference for reading your available choices. Before deploying, tell the squad what your equipment is meant to handle. Distinguish a tool for a single tough threat from one that controls a group or supports a defensive position. Leave room for the tools your teammates already cover instead of duplicating a favourite selection without a reason.
Practise calls before a crisis
Learn the inputs for the stratagems you actually selected. During a quieter moment, rehearse the sequence and watch how the delivery works. Notice where you are standing, where the marker lands and where teammates are moving.
Use a short verbal warning before an area attack. Calling a direction and the intended target is more useful than shouting only the stratagem name. If a teammate is already crossing that area, wait or change the throw rather than assuming they will notice in time.
Give the mission a route
Choose the next objective as a group. Avoid having every player independently chase a different point of interest. When the squad moves, make sure the person finishing a task knows the route and has time to follow.
After an encounter, quickly reassess equipment, available support and the time needed for the remaining objectives. This is the moment to decide whether another detour fits the mission. Repeatedly making that decision under pressure at the final objective is much harder.
Treat extraction as another encounter
Agree where you will hold and who watches each approach. Preserve a response for an unexpected threat rather than using every remaining tool at once. After the mission, discuss one preventable death or misplaced call and adjust the next loadout around that lesson. Difficulty should increase when the squad's coordination is ready, not simply because another option became selectable.
