THE GUIDE

New World: Aeternum is approaching its announced shutdown. If you are returning, the important question is which existing adventures you want to finish while the official service remains available. This guide is for existing owners, not a recommendation to purchase access from a third party.

Check the official service timeline

Amazon's January 15, 2026 announcement states that New World: Aeternum will go offline on January 31, 2027. It also says the game was delisted on January 15, 2026, that existing owners can continue on their purchased platform and that the Nighthaven season is extended until shutdown. These are the publisher's announced dates, checked for this guide on October 6, 2026. Official New World service announcement.

The announcement changes how a return should be planned. Older articles about future expansions, long-term investment or buying the game may no longer describe the available service. Consult the current official notice before making a purchase or arranging paid services.

Make a short return plan

First, confirm that your original platform account can install and launch the game. Check your character and available content before arranging a group activity. An old screenshot or remembered equipment list is not a reliable inventory.

Choose two or three goals you would enjoy completing: a story chapter you missed, an expedition with friends or time revisiting a favourite region. Order those goals by importance rather than by how many hours an old checklist says they require. Leave optional collection work for afterward.

Coordinate with the people you want to play with

Agree on a date and confirm everyone can access the same activity. Returning players may have different progress and equipment, so begin with something the whole group can participate in. A shorter successful evening is preferable to spending the entire session trying to assemble a demanding run.

If you want a record of your character or community, capture your own screenshots and exchange contact details through channels everyone is comfortable using. Do not assume an online profile or service will remain available after the announced closure.

Avoid promises of permanence

A third-party listing cannot extend Amazon's official server lifetime. Make decisions using the remaining service period and the enjoyment you expect from that time. Recheck the publisher's notice before committing to a return, since service plans and access details are time-sensitive.
