THE GUIDE

Old School RuneScape offers many directions from the start, but a beginner only needs one clear reason to leave the bank. Pick a quest, a skill milestone or an area you want to explore, then work backward from its requirements.

Start in the correct version

Jagex confirms that RuneScape and Old School have separate profiles. A guide labeled only RuneScape may therefore describe a different game. Search with OSRS or Old School RuneScape and the exact activity name.

The official Old School introduction presents quests, skills and encounters as different ways to progress. You do not need to rush into all of them at once.

Turn a quest into a short checklist

Read the quest requirements and distinguish what is mandatory from what a walkthrough merely recommends. Gather the items you actually need for the next stage and leave room for the journey.

Our suggested approach is to set a main task and one nearby optional task. If the first needs more preparation, you still have a useful reason to play without opening ten unrelated guides.

Train for an unlock you understand

Choose a skill milestone because it enables something you want. That makes it easier to judge whether a training method is appropriate for your account.

An advanced method may depend on transport, equipment or quests you have not unlocked. Before copying its advertised efficiency, list those prerequisites and check whether the preparation cost makes sense for your current goal.

Keep supplies purposeful

Before an outing, review travel items, recovery supplies and any tools required by the activity. Afterward, organize the items that belong to your next objective. This reduces the time spent reconstructing your plan when you return.

Avoid taking valuable or unnecessary equipment into an unfamiliar activity simply because you have it. Read the relevant death and area rules in the current game first.

What should you do in the first week?

Try several small goals and notice which ones you want to continue. Build a longer plan from those interests. Finishing a modest quest or understanding a training loop creates a better foundation than racing through an efficiency route you cannot yet explain.
