THE GUIDE

A successful first Star Citizen session can be as simple as finding your ship, completing a short flight and returning to a landing area. Start with that complete loop before committing to an expensive mission or a complicated cargo plan.

Confirm access and installation

RSI's official getting-started checklist explains the account, game-package and launcher requirements. A standalone ship purchase is not something to assume includes game access; inspect the package contents before spending money.

Check the current system requirements and available storage as part of setup. If performance or installation is the problem, solve it before interpreting a failed flight as a control issue.

Follow the new-player introduction

The official first-steps guide recommends the tutorial and explains the path toward using your ship. Follow the instructions in your current client, because menus and starting flows can change during development.

Our recommendation is to keep the first session focused on movement, interaction, ship access, takeoff and landing. Resist the urge to add several unrelated errands before you have completed that loop.

Rehearse a return, not only a departure

Before leaving a location, identify how you will navigate back and request the services your ship needs. Practice the relevant controls in a calm situation. Remembering how to land is more useful than discovering the control while already under pressure.

Take only the equipment appropriate to a short learning trip. Avoid making your first attempt depend on cargo or items you would be frustrated to lose.

Choose one mission type to understand

Read the objective, destination and conditions before accepting. Ask what equipment and knowledge the task assumes, then choose something aligned with the flight skills you just practiced.

If you become stuck, RSI's Welcome Hub offers learning resources and access to experienced Guides. Use help to resolve a specific question instead of replacing your whole plan with an advanced money-making route.

Star Citizen is actively developed. Consult current official notes when controls or mission behavior differ from an older video, and keep early goals small enough to retry.
