The First Descendant Beginner Guide: Modules and Progression
Learn how to organize The First Descendant upgrades, read Module capacity and use current progression guidance without following old beta routes.

In this guide 4 sections
The First Descendant presents several upgrade systems at once. A beginner should first understand the relationship between their Descendant, equipped weapons and Modules, then choose a single progression objective rather than farming unrelated materials.
Follow the current newcomer route
Nexon's official new-player guide introduces the early progression path and starter choices. Check that guidance before using a launch-era route, because onboarding and available rewards have changed.
Keep the current mission requirement visible while preparing. If the next task is an unlock, list the materials and where the game currently says to obtain them. If it is a difficult encounter, diagnose the fight before assuming another unlock is necessary.
Read Module effects and capacity together
Modules modify Descendants and weapons, but equipping a collection of attractive effects is not the same as building a coherent setup. Read the effect, the applicable equipment and the capacity cost shown in the current interface.
Our recommendation is to improve one clear function first: the damage source you actually use, survival during the encounter or a resource problem that interrupts your abilities. Recheck the full setup after changing a Module so that it still fits and serves the intended purpose.
Distinguish old systems from current advice
Nexon still hosts earlier Module explanations that explicitly describe beta material. Those pages explain terminology but should not be treated as current exact-value instructions.
For returning players, the official returning-Descendant guide documents additional systems and activities. Read only the part relevant to your next goal instead of trying to complete every new feature immediately.
Make farming purposeful
Before repeating an activity, confirm the item, source and conditions in the game. Keep a small checklist of missing components. Stop and reassess when an upgrade is complete rather than continuing out of habit.
In group fights, learn the objective and dangerous mechanics before maximizing a damage sequence. An upgrade is more useful when you can stay active long enough to apply it.
At the end of a session, record the next missing component or encounter problem. That makes your next login a continuation of a plan rather than another search through menus.
