WoW Midnight Housing Guide: Get a House, Level It, Earn Decor

Quick summary

• Every Midnight account gets the quest A House For You. Claim a plot in Founder's Point (Alliance, through Stormwind) or Razorwind Shores (Horde, through Orgrimmar). Your first house is free.
• House level is capped at 12. You level it with Endeavors and by collecting new decor of uncommon quality or better. Common decor gives no house XP.
• Your house has three separate budgets: interior, exterior, and rooms. Each decor item costs 1, 3, or 5 points, however much you scale it. The exterior budget stops growing at level 7.

• Housing gives no combat power. The practical benefits are Teleport Home, rewards from Endeavor tasks, and decor from things you're already doing, like Prey and Kith'ix.

Claim your house

1. Pick up A House For You. WGE says any character on a Midnight account gets it automatically. It sends you to your capital's portal room.
2. Go to your district.

1. Buy a plot at its For Sale sign. Icy Veins says you manage the house afterward from the Housing Dashboard (default key H). A steward walks you through it. WGE says each neighborhood instance has 50 plots. If the plot you want is taken, open the House Finder from the Housing Dashboard.
2. Know the costs. WGE says the first house is free, a second house in the other district costs 1,000 gold, and moving plots charges a small fee and takes all your decor with you. There's no rent or upkeep, and your house stays even if you unsubscribe.

Choose your neighborhood type. Public neighborhoods fill automatically and are assigned their Endeavor. WGE says a Guild Neighborhood needs 10 recently active accounts, and a Charter Neighborhood needs 10 signatures from separate accounts. Leaving the guild that hosts your neighborhood removes your house from it.

All figures are from WGE. Your level doesn't go up on its own. WGE says XP banks up until you talk to Jorvan Longmoor (Founder's Point) or Rotha (Razorwind Shores) to level up.

Compare the ways to earn house XP

WGE estimates that Endeavors alone take a new house to level 12 in about nine months. Collecting new decor is how you go faster.

Example: you've just bought your plot and found that your old achievements have already filled your decor catalog. Join this month's Endeavor first, since it's your biggest source of house XP. Then buy one copy of each uncommon-or-better vendor item you're missing, for 10 XP each, before you spend anything on decorating.

Work within your decor budget

• Every copy you place needs its own owned copy. Four chairs means owning four chairs.
• The cost is 1, 3, or 5 points, and scaling doesn't change it. WGE's tip is that a 1-point item stretched to furniture size still costs 1 point.
• Spend room points first. Settle on a layout before you buy furniture, so you don't end up moving things twice.
• Watch your exterior budget. It tops out at 350 from level 7. Individual cobblestones at 1 point each use it up fast.
• Hidden decor still costs points. Use Cleanup mode, or the Placed Decor List in Advanced mode, to find items lost inside walls.

Learn the editor modes

You can't edit while in combat. WGE says multi-select, copy-paste, and mannequins have been announced for patch 12.2, not 12.1.5.

Use blueprints before every experiment

WGE says 12.1 added blueprints. You can save the whole house, just the interior, just the exterior, or a single room, in 50 manual slots plus 10 autosaves. Blueprints can be shared as codes. A new Export permission controls who can copy your build, and it defaults to No One.

Blizzard's 12.1.5 notes add the following:

• Stairwells now export every stairwell room connected vertically to them. When you import one, it attaches from the top or bottom floor.
• The Blueprint Contents List now lists only the dyes you'll actually use up.
• Dye tooltips in Customization Mode name the Dye Item that gets used.
• There's a shortcut to your Blueprints Collection from the Housing Controls blueprint button.

Save a blueprint before you rework anything. WGE notes the game only creates an autosave when you import someone else's code, not when you rearrange your own rooms.

Run Endeavors with your neighborhood

Endeavors are the one housing system your whole neighborhood shares. WGE says each one runs for a little over a month and has four milestones that unlock decor at the Endeavor vendor. Every task also pays you house XP and Community Coupons personally. Coupons are warbound, and you can spend them at any Endeavor vendor, including another neighborhood's.

WGE lists four Endeavors added in 12.1: Knock-Off Amani with Griftah, Every Bakar Has Its Day, Candle Culture, and Vacation Season. Blizzard's 12.1.5 notes fixed public neighborhoods getting the same Endeavor twice in a row. Only Guild Leaders and Neighborhood Managers choose the Endeavor in a private neighborhood.

Many tasks are generic Season 2 activities, such as keys and raid kills, so your normal week counts toward them. Add the Endeavor to your reset routine with our Midnight weekly checklist.

With 12.1.5, over 200 decor recipes had their reagent costs cut, mostly lumber (Icy Veins). WGE also reports 84 Shadowlands decor pieces added to Shadowlands vendors.

If you're returning, boosted, or playing alts

• Returning since 12.0? You've missed level 12, blueprints, basements (the entry room can now go on any floor), Pet Beds (up to 100 indoors and 25 outdoors), and four Endeavors. Talk to your district's leveling NPC first, in case you have banked XP waiting.
• Boosted to 90? Housing doesn't care about your item level. Claim your plot on day one and join the current Endeavor, because it runs about a month whether you're there or not. Our gold routes post covers paying for decor.
• Playing alts? Your house, decor, coupons, and lumber are shared across the warband, but each house belongs to one character. WGE says that character can't be deleted or use character services until you move ownership to another character. Give decor-crafting professions to different alts so you can make more kinds of decor.
