THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • Unlock: the Patch 12.1 campaign quest What Lies Beyond the Fog (Chapter 2) opens the island. After the intro, the whole warband can fly there (Wowhead).
  • Travel: fly east from Zul'Aman, or use the Season 2 Prey portal from Astalor's Sanctum in Silvermoon. The hub is Tokka's Landing (about 59.4, 49.5).
  • Collect: 12 rares (for the Coiled to Strike achievement, the Amani Forge decor, and a chance at two mounts) and every treasure (for the Auriferous Venomfang mount).
  • Vaults of Atal'Utek: Patrols, Strikes, Incursions, and Ancient Foes give Corrosive Coins, crests, and gear. You spend the coins at the Altar of Corrosion for zone powers.
  • Corrosive Codex: Corrosive Souls unlock Gifts that work outdoors, in Delves, and in Prey (Wowhead, including a commenter).

Unlock the island

  1. Finish the Midnight campaign. A Wowhead commenter says you then auto-accept The Preparations Are Complete to start The Curse of Ula'tek.
  2. Keep going until What Lies Beyond the Fog and Down With the Skies. If you try to fly over before that, you get "Turn back! An overwhelming force coils around…" and are sent back to Zul'Aman (Wowhead commenter, community data).
  3. Pick up the flight points: Eagletender Oraka'nago on the island and Eagletender Mal'Tiki in the Vaults (same commenter).

You can fly anywhere on the island but not inside the Vaults (Wowhead).

Collect the treasures, lore, and glyphs

Collection Reward (Wowhead)
Treasures of the Coiled Isle Auriferous Venomfang mount
Student of Hissstory (10 lore objects) Cursed Badge of the Soulcoilers toy
The Coiled Isles Glyph Hunter (11 glyphs) Achievement only
Ula'tek Uncoiled (meta) Requires Explore, Treasures, Coiled to Strike, and The Curse of Ula'tek

Some treasures take several steps. Amani Privateer's Cache needs three items gathered nearby (Grisly Morsel, Waterlogged Crate, Broken Urn). The Brine-Crusted Chest needs a Luminescent Pearl from a Bubbling Clam (about 71.9, 82.8) placed near Nacretta (70.6, 77.1). Then you loot her key. Track these toward the meta with our achievements hub.

Clear Cursed Surges and fish for Captain Tokka

Cursed Surges are rotating world events. You do a small task, then fight a mini boss. Each one gives Adventurer gear and crests and leaves cursed water nearby for Cursed Fishing (Wowhead). Cursed Fishing raises your friendship with Captain Tokka, whose rewards include profession recipes, a mount, decor, transmog, and The Coiled Huntress fishing pole. Wowhead calls the pole "best in slot," and it gives underwater breathing and swim speed in Midnight zones. The Altar's Surge Seniority node adds ghostly allies at Surges, so fishers may want to take it over Spiritual Succession.

Run a daily island loop

Our suggested order, built from Wowhead's coordinates:

  1. Take the Prey portal to the island and pick up dailies at Tokka's Landing.
  2. Clear the rares near Tokka's Landing and the marsh (Coin-Eye Skully, Siltmouth, Farthik, Big Mon). Then head north and east for Destra, Sss'alik, and Garsecg.
  3. Join any active Cursed Surge on the way.
  4. Go into the Vaults through the Gate of the Serpent Eye. Do three Patrols, then a Strike, and join the next Incursion and Ancient Foe if a group is forming.
  5. Spend your coins at Er'inye before you leave, since each point you've spent raises later coin gains.

Rares and treasures can only be looted once, so the loop gets shorter as you finish them. After that, most of your time goes to the Vaults events.

Use the Vaults objects

Object Effect (Wowhead)
Bottled Spirits Spirit Step: teleport 35 yards every 30 sec, for 5 min
Venomous Salve Venomborn Twin: sometimes summons a helper, for 5 min
Forgotten Alchemy A 5-min buff that deals AoE Nature damage when you're hit
Shrine of the Honored Dead Med'jai's Protection for 3 min, for 15 coins (needs an Altar node)
Soulcoiler's Cache and Trove Coffer Key Shards, Voidlight Marl, coins, a chance at Adventurer BoE

Run the Vaults of Atal'Utek events

Activity Group size Reward (Wowhead)
Temple Patrol Solo, 1–2 minutes 20 Corrosive Coins, plus a little gold
Temple Strike Solo or small group Corroded Pouch: 75 coins, 5 Veteran Mistcrests, chance at Veteran gear
Temple Incursion Party, 10-minute timer, every 15 minutes Corroded Satchel: 175 coins, 10 Veteran Mistcrests, better gear chance
Ancient Foe Group, 10 minutes after an Incursion 200 coins, 10 Champion Mistcrests, Veteran gear. The first kill each week also gives a Corrosive Soul and a Venom-Cursed Fragment

Weekly: Purging the Vaults asks for one successful run of each activity. There are smaller daily quests too. The Ancient Foe changes weekly between Congealed Malice, Susarikk, and Khu'tulak. Our weekly checklist puts this into your reset routine.

Getting around: you can't fly, so use Spiritwing Gusts and Feathers to climb. Pick up Soulguide Charms (+10% Haste, Versatility, and movement speed for 5 minutes), and ask any Amani Windcaller for Spirit Walk.

Spend Corrosive Coins at the Altar of Corrosion

Unlock the Altar with Er'inye's quests One Coin Too Many and The Altar of Corrosion (Wowhead).

Point Coins Running total
1 1,000 1,000
2 1,500 2,500
3 2,000 4,500
4 2,500 7,000
5 3,000 10,000
6–10 4,000–8,000 40,000
11–14 10,000–20,000 97,500

Our arithmetic: Wowhead lists 14 purchasable points for 97,500 coins (about 488 Ancient Foe sacks or 557 Incursion satchels); Method and Icy Veins count a 15th point at 20,000, for 115,000 (about 575 sacks or 657 satchels), before any coin bonus. Each 5 points spent raises your coin gains, up to +225%. Spend points early. Points unlock across your warband, but the ones you spend on a character "cannot be refunded".

Main nodes:

  • Venomwalking: 75% less damage from venom pits.
  • Venom Neutralization: venom-crazed enemies deal 25% less damage to you.
  • Venom Coating: your abilities apply a Poison. Wowhead calls it the tree's "primary source of damage."
  • Spectral Shipping: a choice node that adds Windcaller flights to The Underbelly and the raid entrance.

The four choice nodes each need a relic turned in to Er'inye. The keys come from High Priest Jin'tal, an Ancient Foe, a Temple Strike, and a Temple Incursion.

Unlock Corrosive Codex Gifts

Corrosive Souls come from Ancient Foes, Purging the Vaults, and Venom-Covered Chests. Every 8 Souls unlocks one Gift for good. You start with one active Gift slot and get a second after unlocking 8 Gifts (64 Souls) (Wowhead). A Wowhead commenter (community data) says the Gifts work "Outdoor / Delve / Prey only (does not work in dungeons, raids, or instanced PvP)" and unlock account-wide. If you don't want more Gifts, Souls can be traded for 100 Corrosive Coins or 150 Undercoin. For Delve use, see our Delves guide. For Prey, see our Prey guide.

Plan for alts and returning players

  • Altar points are warband-wide, but spending is per character (Wowhead). An alt can spend the points your main has already earned.
  • Codex Gifts also unlock account-wide, and one commenter says "with an alt army, you can unlock these within a few hours" (community data).
  • Returning players should do the Prey questline first for the portal, then the rares loop. Rare gear is warbound until equipped.
