Quick summary
- What it is: a four-boss Battle for Azeroth dungeon in western Zuldazar, back in the Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ pool. The bosses are The Golden Serpent, Mchimba the Embalmer, The Council of Tribes, and Dazar, The First King (Wowhead).
- Timer: 33:00.
- The real danger is trash casters: kick every Hex Volley, Unholy Mending, Bind Soul, Wretched Discharge, and Poison Nova (Method).
- Three bosses with a twist: blobs of gold must not reach the Serpent, the entombed player must be found fast on Mchimba, and the Council's totems die in a fixed order (Method, Icy Veins).
- Since the August 25 hotfix, both mummy types are elites and the Risen Hexer casts Shadow Bolt instead of Shadowfrost Bolt (Blizzard). Older guides still show the old trash.
Get there and plan the run
| Fact | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Western Zuldazar, entrance near 37.6, 39.4 | Wowhead (TheWoWDB lists 37.3, 39.5) |
| Fast travel | Timeways portal in Silvermoon City (42.4, 58.3), the left-most portal | Wowhead |
| Teleport | Path of the Slumbering Conqueror, after timing a +10 | Wowhead, Icy Veins |
| Level | 90 | Wowhead |
| Difficulties | Heroic, Mythic, Mythic+ | Wowhead |
| Bosses | 4 | Wowhead, Method |
| Timer | 33:00 | Wowhead |
Wowhead says you need to pull every mob to make the trash count. New to keys? Start with our first key checklist.
Handle the opening trash
| Mob | Key ability | What to do | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minion of Zul | Bound by Shadow shield; Pit of Despair fear on melee | Purge the shield and it dies instantly; kite if fixated | Method, Wowhead |
| Animated Guardian | Heavy Slams (worse below 50%), Suppression Slam frontal | CC-immune; play close so the frontal is easy to dodge | Method |
| Umbral Warrior | Shadow Slash | Tank defensive for the instant hit | Method |
| Risen Hexer | Hex Volley | Kick every cast | Method |
| Shadow-Borne Champion | Ancestral Fury, Shadow Whirlwind, Vigilant Defense | CC-immune; soothe the enrage; move behind the shield | Method, Icy Veins |
Blizzard's August 25 hotfix changed the Risen Hexer's random-target bolt to Shadow Bolt (was Shadowfrost Bolt). Check the debuff in your own run before you plan around it.
Beat The Golden Serpent
- Spit Gold: hits 2 random players. Each leaves a pool of Molten Gold. Drop your pool next to the others so the blobs spawn together (Method, TheWoWDB).
- Lucre's Call: turns every pool into Animated Gold that crawls toward the boss. Slow, stun, and cleave the blobs. Each one that arrives gives the boss a stack of Luster, a shield worth 10% of its health and +25% damage, and the stacks add up (Wowhead). Icy Veins warns that the group damage from Luster "will likely be lethal."
- Serpentine Gust: a 5-second group channel with knockback. Healers plan a cooldown.
- Tail Thrash: a tank hit that "isn't particularly dangerous" (Method). Drag the boss away from blobs.
Survive the kings gauntlet
After the Serpent, Method says "a gauntlet of various troll Kings and Queens" engages "in a random order." Icy Veins describes it as 4 packs that spawn one after another. Prepare for each:
| Enemy | Watch for | Answer | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| King Rahu'ai | Forked Lightning, Overload | Run out of Overload | Method, Icy Veins |
| Seneschal M'bara | Captain's Bulwark, Unholy Mending | Purge the Bulwark; kick every Mending | Method |
| King Timaji | Erupting Slam, Bladestorm | Move away from allies; kite if fixated | Method |
| Queen Wasi | Bind Soul, Soul Bolt | Kick every Bind Soul (shares health with Timaji) | Method, Icy Veins |
| Queen Patlaa + Skeletal Hunting Raptor | Serpent Strike, Bestial Berserk, Hunting Leap | Poison dispel; soothe; dodge the frontal | Method |
| King A'akul | Mortal Bleed, Blood Drain | Bleed cleanse before Blood Drain | Method |
| Bloodsworn Assassin | Sudden Rupture | Defensives; since Aug 25 it prefers a new target each time | Method, Blizzard |
Nearly all of them are CC-immune, so TheWoWDB says to plan defensives and bleed cleanses "rather than stuns."
Beat Mchimba the Embalmer
Before the boss, Purification Constructs hit hard with Heavy Slams and Purification Strike, and Interment Constructs Entomb a player in a sarcophagus. Wowhead says you can pull this room in two pulls, one per side. Dodge the Embalming Fluid circles left by dying mobs (Method).
- Entomb: seals a random player in one of 4 sarcophagi. The trapped player presses the extra action button to shake their coffin, and the group spreads out to find it. If you're slow, Mchimba opens the empty coffins and a Finished Mummy comes out of each (Method, Wowhead). Wowhead adds that each opened coffin makes the next one open faster.
- Drain Fluids: a channel on a random player. Stop it with a combat drop or a defensive. If it finishes, the target gets Desiccation, -50% damage and -50% movement speed, until healed above 90% (Wowhead, Method).
- Burn Corruption: drop the fire at the walls, away from the sarcophagi (Method, TheWoWDB).
- Awakening Slam: top everyone off. Two Half-Finished Mummies spawn. Kick their Wretched Discharge and cleave them on the boss.
Since August 25, both mummy types are elites (Blizzard), so every extra mummy costs more time than it used to.
Beat The Council of Tribes
The hallway first: kill each Healing Tide Totem the moment it drops (Wowhead, Icy Veins), kick or curse-dispel every Hex from the Phantom Hex Priests, and run from the Ghostly Brute's Seismic Upheaval (Icy Veins).
You fight one councilor at a time. A defeated councilor still comes back to use one ability (Wowhead).
| Councilor | Ability | What to do | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kula the Butcher | Whirling Axes, Severing Axe | Tank her in the center; axes keep coming from her body after she dies | Method |
| Aka'ali the Conqueror | Barrel Through, Debilitating Backhand | Stack to split the charge; tank kites or uses a big defensive after Backhand | Method, Wowhead |
| Zanazal the Wise | Arc Lightning, Poison Nova, Call of the Elements | Kick every Poison Nova; kill totems in order | Method, Icy Veins |
Totem order: Explosive, then Thundering, then Torrent (Method). Icy Veins says an Explosive Totem that finishes its cast "will likely result in a wipe," and suggests moving Zanazal next to it so you can cleave both.
Two hotfixes help. Since August 18, the encounter ends the moment Zanazal dies. Since August 25, Aka'ali and Zanazal wait briefly before attacking (Blizzard).
Beat Shadow of Zul and Dazar
Shadow of Zul blocks the path. Stand in both Pool of Darkness soaks. If you get Dark Revelation, leave the group, then purge or kill the Minions of Zul it spawns (Method, Wowhead). Since August 18, Dark Revelation prefers non-tanks, and on August 25 Blizzard increased the cooldown of one of its abilities without naming it.
Dazar, The First King:
- Kill Reban first. He's summoned on pull. Dodge his Hunting Leap frontal and kick Deathly Roar (Method, TheWoWDB).
- Spread for Aerial Smash (2 players). At 80%, Dazar mounts T'zala and it becomes Quaking Leap on 4 players with extra group damage. Method says the farthest target can cancel it with a combat drop.
- Tank: Blade Combo ramps up during a short channel. After the mount, T'zala's Savage Maul lands right before it. Save your biggest defensive for that pair.
- Gilded Destruction: heavy group damage, and Dazar's melee swings become frontals. Face him away (Method). Wowhead says spears also spawn on your position, so keep moving.
- Impaling Spear: dodge the circles; bleed cleanses help.

Know the hotfixes and loot
| Date | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 18 | Season 2 Mythic lockouts reset daily; Council ends when Zanazal dies; clearer Impaling Spear, Seismic Upheaval, and Hunting Leap visuals; Dark Revelation prefers non-tanks | Blizzard |
| Aug 25 | Finished and Half-Finished Mummies are elites; Risen Hexer casts Shadow Bolt; Phantom Hex Priest uses Shadow magic (was Nature); a Shadow of Zul ability cooldown increased; Sudden Rupture prefers new targets; Aka'ali and Zanazal wait before attacking | Blizzard |
Loot (Wowhead): three trinkets: Lustrous Golden Plumage (Serpent), Mchimba's Ritual Bandages (Mchimba), and Stormbound Emblem of Dazar (Dazar). Weapons include Gilded Serpent's Tooth, Geti'ikku, Cut of Death, and the Crossbow of Forgotten Majesty. End-of-run item levels by key are in our Season 2 Mythic+ guide.
Mount: the Mummified Raptor Skull teaches the Tomb Stalker and drops from Dazar on Mythic (TheWoWDB, Wowhead). Because Mythic lockouts reset daily since August 18 (Blizzard), you can try once a day. See our mounts guide for other Season 2 mounts.
Achievements (Icy Veins): Kings' Rest (Dazar on Mythic) and Keystone Hero: Kings' Rest (time a +10, which gives the teleport). Track them on our achievements page.
Avoid the common mistakes
- No stun saved for Lucre's Call. One blob reaching the Serpent means a shield and a damage buff.
- Opening the wrong coffin. Find the shaking sarcophagus first.
- Forgetting dead councilors. Kula's axes and Aka'ali's charge keep coming.
- Killing totems out of order. Explosive first.
- Ignoring Reban. His leaps and roars overlap the mounted half if he's alive.
- Tank saving nothing for Savage Maul into Blade Combo. That pair kills tanks (TheWoWDB).
Run it on alts or after a break
- Returning for 12.1.5: the mummies and Risen Hexer changed on August 25, so routes and videos from before then show weaker trash. From October 20, +10 runs drop Venomstones (Blizzard, via our Season 2 Mythic+ guide).
- Alts: each character needs its own +10 time for the teleport (Icy Veins). Mount farmers can run Mythic daily on every character.
- Pushing: see our push guide. Our Voidscar Arena guide covers another dungeon in the pool.
