OSRS Woodcutting Guide 1-99 (2026): Fastest, AFK and F2P
OSRS Woodcutting guide 1-99 for 2026: quest skips, 1.5-tick teaks, sulliusceps, bloodwood, Sailing trees, redwoods, Forestry worlds and F2P routes.

In this guide 11 sections
Quick summary
- Fastest route (members): quests to 26, oaks to 35, then teaks to 99 with 1.5-tick or 2-tick manipulation (OSRS Wiki). At the wiki's 1.5-tick rates, 35 to 99 takes about 62 hours by our arithmetic.
- Fastest without tick manipulation: teaks to 65, then sulliusceps on Fossil Island (about 134 hours from 65 to 99 by our arithmetic), or bloodwood trees from 77 after The Blood Moon Rises (130,000–210,000 XP per hour, OSRS Wiki).
- Most AFK: redwoods from 90 in the Woodcutting Guild, rosewoods from 92 with 79 Sailing, blisterwood from 62, or Forestry events on yews.
- Free-to-play: trees to 15, oaks to 30, willows to 60, then willows or yews on a Forestry world (OSRS Wiki F2P guide).
- Gear that matters: a felling axe with Forester's rations (+10% XP), the Lumberjack or Forestry outfit (+2.5%), and the best axe your level allows.
This OSRS Woodcutting guide covers every practical route to 99 in 2026, including the Sailing-era trees and The Blood Moon Rises bloodwood. XP rates are the OSRS Wiki's, from its Woodcutting training page and Forestry page; hour totals are our arithmetic from those rates. It covers Old School RuneScape only.
Woodcutting axes and gear
| Item | Effect | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Best regular axe | Higher chance to cut each attempt | Bronze/iron (1), steel (6), black (11), mithril (21), adamant (31), rune (41), dragon (61), crystal (71, Song of the Elves) |
| Felling axe + Forester's rations | +10% Woodcutting XP, but a 20% chance not to get the log | Grand Exchange up to dragon. Crystal felling axe: felling axe handle on a crystal axe at a singing bowl. |
| Lumberjack or Forestry outfit | +2.5% XP per log for the full set | Temple Trekking (Lumberjack) or Forestry anima-infused bark |
| Forestry kit | Stores rations, leaves and outfits, and lets you start events | Free from the Friendly Forester's Forestry Shop |
| Dragon axe special | +3 temporary Woodcutting levels | Stacks with the Woodcutting Guild boost |
| Infernal axe | Burns a third of your logs for half their normal Firemaking XP; lasts 5,000 logs per charge | Smouldering stone on a dragon axe; needs 61 Woodcutting and 85 Firemaking |
| Log basket | Holds 28 extra logs, so banked trips last longer | 5,000 anima-infused bark plus 300 noted oak and 300 noted willow logs |
The felling axe's lost-log chance doesn't matter when you're dropping logs for XP. It does matter when you're banking for profit. All rows are from the OSRS Wiki.
Fastest way to 99 Woodcutting in OSRS
| Levels | Method | XP/h (OSRS Wiki) | Requirement | Our estimate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1–26 | Quests: Monk's Friend, Enlightened Journey, Icthlarin's Little Helper, RFD Skrach Uglogwee | 9,000 XP total | Quest requirements | Skip the earliest grind |
| 1–15 | Regular trees | 12,500–18,750 | None | 97 logs |
| 15–35 | Oak trees | ~40,000 | None | 534 logs |
| 35–99 | Teaks, 1.5-tick on Fossil Island | 93,000 at 35 → 235,000 at 99 | Bone Voyage; Farming to plant teaks (or use the 3 hardwood patches) | ~62 hours, ~153,000 logs before XP boosts |
| 35–99 | Teaks, 2-tick (Ape Atoll, Isle of Souls, Prifddinas) | 78,000 → 215,000 | Access to the spot | ~69 hours |
How 1.5-tick teaks works
- Plant teaks in the three hardwood patches on Fossil Island, which sit within three tiles of each other next to a bank.
- Set up a 3-tick action, such as swamp tar on a clean herb.
- Alternate tiles next to the trees. Timed right, you can get two logs every three ticks.
- Use the best felling axe with Forester's rations. The rations also restore run energy, so you don't need stamina potions.
- Drop logs with shift-click (or tap-to-drop on mobile).
Example: you're level 50 with a rune axe and a full Lumberjack outfit. 2-tick teaks run about 108,000 XP per hour at 50 and 1.5-tick about 126,000, so if you can hold the 1.5-tick rhythm for a full session, it's the better choice. If you'd rather click less, 2-tick on the Isle of Souls costs you about seven hours on the way to 99 (our arithmetic from the wiki tables).
AFK Woodcutting methods
| Level | Method | XP/h (OSRS Wiki) | Requirement | Attention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 35–65 | Teaks without tick manipulation | 34,000 → ~65,000 | Teak access | Medium |
| 62–90 | Blisterwood tree, Darkmeyer | ~85,000 | Partial Sins of the Father | Low, never depletes |
| 65–99 | Sulliusceps, Tar Swamp, Fossil Island | 82,700 at 65 → 105,000 at 99 (crystal) | Bone Voyage; antipoison | Medium (tar monsters, spine mushrooms) |
| 77–99 | Bloodwood trees, Vampyrium | 130,000–210,000 (dragon felling), more with crystal | The Blood Moon Rises | Medium; you fill sap buckets, not logs |
| 77–99 | Engorged bloodwood tree | ~70,000 | The Blood Moon Rises | Low |
| 80–99 | Ironwood, Sunbleak Island | ~80,000 (dragon) to 110,000+ (crystal felling + rations) | 72 Sailing | Low; bank chest space needs 70 Construction |
| 90–99 | Redwoods, Woodcutting Guild | 55,000–75,000 | 60 Woodcutting for the guild | Very low |
| 92–99 | Rosewoods, Drumstick Isle | 85,000–90,000 | 79 Sailing (not boostable) | Very low; a tree lasts about 4 min 35 s |
Sulliusceps from 65 to 99 take 97,778 chops in the Lumberjack outfit and pay out fossils (120,000 XP from the Varrock Museum exhibit), numulite and caps along the way. That's about 134 hours by our arithmetic, but you get a lot of side value. Redwoods from 90 to 99 at about 65,000 XP per hour take about 118 hours. Bloodwood needs The Blood Moon Rises, the same quest that opens the OSRS Maggot King guide, and its 74 Woodcutting requirement is one reason to train this skill early.
OSRS Forestry worlds and events
- Worlds: the OSRS Wiki lists 388, 444, 487 and 510 as the official members' Forestry worlds. OSRS Toolkit also lists 398 and 434.
- Group boost: you get +1 invisible Woodcutting level for each player on the same tree, up to +10. It doesn't apply on regular trees or in the Woodcutting Guild.
- Events: anyone carrying a Forestry kit can trigger them. They can't spawn on regular trees, hollow trees, player-grown trees, the blisterwood tree or in the guild.
- Rewards: events pay anima-infused bark. OSRS Toolkit suggests spending it on the felling axe handle (10,000 bark) first, then the log basket, then the outfit.
- Rates: yews plus events run about 80,000–90,000 XP per hour at 99 (OSRS Wiki).
Popular spots on the wiki's list: willows south of the Draynor bank, maples in Mistrock and north of Seers' bank, yews at Seers' church and in Prifddinas, teaks south of Civitas illa Fortis, and magics in the Myths' Guild and south of Hosidius bank.
F2P Woodcutting guide
| Levels | Tree | XP per log | Where (OSRS Wiki) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–15 | Trees | 25 | South of the Grand Exchange, west of Lumbridge Castle |
| 15–30 | Oaks | 37.5 | South-west of Varrock west bank, Draynor |
| 30–60 | Willows | 67.5 | South of Draynor bank (watch the level 7 dark wizards) |
| 45+ | Maples (optional) | 100 | Corsair Cove Resource Area (Dragon Slayer I) |
| 60–99 | Willows for speed, or yews for AFK and profit | 67.5 / 175 | Yews north of Varrock Palace, south of Edgeville |
The F2P guide says to drop logs for speed, and suggests burning them as you go only if your Firemaking is under 45. The best F2P axe is rune (41 Woodcutting, 40 Attack to wield). Forestry still works on free worlds, with fewer event types.

Tick off these unlocks
- Bone Voyage for Fossil Island teaks and sulliusceps.
- Song of the Elves for the crystal axe and crystal felling axe.
- Sins of the Father (partial) for the blisterwood tree.
- The Blood Moon Rises for bloodwood.
- Kandarin medium diary: maples near Seers give 110 XP instead of 100 (OSRS Wiki).
- Woodcutting Guild at 60 (boostable): an invisible +7 level boost, redwoods and a bank chest.
- Sailing 45/72/79 for camphor, ironwood and rosewood.
The OSRS Sailing guide covers the Sailing levels.
What to do with your logs
Logs you bank feed three other skills. Fletching turns them into bows and shafts (see the OSRS Fletching guide), birdhouse runs need one log per house (see the OSRS Hunter guide), and oak, teak and mahogany logs become planks for Construction.
Beaver pet. Each log you cut rolls for the beaver, with odds that improve with your level and the tree. Redwoods are far better than teaks for it: at 99 about 1 in 69,846 per log against about 1 in 261,861 (OSRS Wiki).
If you're returning, boosted, or on an alt
- Returning players: Forestry (June 2023) replaced random tree depletion with timers, so trees now last a set time no matter how many people cut them (OSRS Wiki, OSRS Toolkit). Pick up a free Forestry kit first.
- Boosted levels: you can boost into the Woodcutting Guild at 60, and redwoods become reliable at 88 with the dragon axe special, a Lightbearer and Preserve (OSRS Wiki).
- Alts and ironmen: the quest XP gets an alt to 26 without cutting a tree. The OSRS Wiki points ironmen to 1.5-tick redwoods in the Farming Guild for banked logs.
- Money: Woodcutting profit is low compared with other methods. The OSRS Wiki says profitable methods are slow, and the OSRS money making guide has better options.
If you're leveling the gathering skills together, the OSRS Mining guide uses the same tick-manipulation ideas on granite. For the rest of the skills and bosses, start from the Old School RuneScape hub.

FAQ
What is the fastest way to get 99 Woodcutting in OSRS? 1.5-tick teaks on Fossil Island. The OSRS Wiki lists 93,000 XP per hour at 35, rising to 235,000 at 99, which is about 62 hours from 35 by our arithmetic.
What is the best AFK Woodcutting method? Redwoods in the Woodcutting Guild from 90, rosewoods from 92 with 79 Sailing, or the blisterwood tree from 62. Bloodwood from 77 is faster but needs more attention.
Should I use a felling axe? Yes, if you're dropping logs for XP. With Forester's rations it gives 10% more XP, but there's a 20% chance you don't get the log, so skip it when banking for profit.
What are the OSRS Forestry worlds? The OSRS Wiki lists 388, 444, 487 and 510 for members. Each extra player on your tree adds an invisible Woodcutting level, up to +10.
How long does 1-99 Woodcutting take? About 62 hours from 35 with 1.5-tick teaks by our arithmetic. Low-effort methods such as sulliusceps or redwoods can take two to three times longer.
What should free-to-play players cut? Trees to 15, oaks to 30, willows to 60, then willows for XP or yews for AFK and profit.
