OSRS Vorkath Guide: Gear, Acid Walk, Spawn and Drops (2026)
OSRS Vorkath guide: the attack cycle, acid walk and spawn, ranged and melee gear by budget, inventory, bank routes, drops, GP per hour and all 11 CAs.

In this guide 15 sections
Quick summary
- Unlock: finish Dragon Slayer II (200 Quest points plus 75 Magic, 70 Smithing, 68 Mining, 62 Crafting, 60 Agility, 60 Thieving, 50 Construction and 50 Hitpoints, none boostable). Then talk to Torfinn on Rellekka's third dock from the west.
- The fight is a loop: six standard attacks, then a special. The specials alternate between acid rapid fire and the freeze plus Zombified Spawn.
- Always have two layers of dragonfire protection. That means an extended super antifire plus Protect from Magic, or an antifire plus a dragonfire shield. And always click two tiles away from the purple fireball.
- Best weapons: Dragon hunter crossbow (ruby, then diamond dragon bolts) or Dragon hunter lance. Both stack with the Salve amulet(ei) because Vorkath is undead.
- Drops: 2 superior dragon bones and 2 blue dragonhides every kill, plus two rolls on the main table. Vorkath's head is 1/50 (and always by kill 50), Vorki and the Jar of Decay are 1/3,000, and each visage is 1/5,000 (OSRS Wiki).
This OSRS Vorkath guide covers the post-quest boss on Ungael as it stands after Jagex's June 2025 and June 2026 changes. Mechanics, rates and drops come from the OSRS Wiki's Vorkath page and its strategy page; a few community video guides are named where their advice differs. It applies to Old School RuneScape only.
Vorkath requirements
| Requirement | Level or detail | Source and why |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon Slayer II | Complete | Mandatory; opens Ungael (wiki) |
| Ranged (ranged method) | 85+ suggested | Wiki suggested skills |
| Attack / Strength (melee method) | 80+ / 85+ suggested | Wiki suggested skills |
| Defence | 75+ suggested; 70+ (Bald); 80+ (MyPvM) | Fewer hits taken from ranged and melee |
| Prayer | 70 for Piety, 74 for Rigour | Main damage prayer |
| Magic | 39 for Crumble Undead | Kills the Zombified Spawn in one cast |
| Construction | 82+ with a boost (optional) | Ornate rejuvenation pool for fast resets |
Dragon Slayer II also needs a long chain of quests, including Legends' Quest, Dream Mentor, A Tail of Two Cats, Animal Magnetism, Ghosts Ahoy, Bone Voyage and Client of Kourend. You must also have started the pyre ship part of Barbarian Training (wiki quest page). If the skill requirements are what's blocking you, the OSRS Smithing guide and OSRS Mining guide cover two of the slower ones.
Vorkath attack cycle and specials
Vorkath has 750 Hitpoints, Combat level 732 and a 5-tick attack speed. Every cycle runs like this (wiki):
| Step | What Vorkath does | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Attacks 1–6 | Random mix of magic (max 30), ranged (max 32), melee if you're adjacent, and four dragonfire types | Keep your protection prayer up; dodge the purple fireball; count to six |
| Special A | Acid pools + rapid fire (25–41 per tick if hit) | Walk on clean tiles, or Woox walk |
| Attacks 7–12 | Six more standard attacks | Same as above; prepare your Crumble Undead switch |
| Special B | Ice breath freezes you, Zombified Spawn lands 10 tiles away | Stop attacking, cast Crumble Undead on the spawn |
| Repeat | The two specials keep alternating | The first special of each kill is random |
Example: you get acid first. Then your next special will be the spawn. So after six more attacks, stop clicking Vorkath and have your staff or spellbook ready.
Vorkath dragonfire types and counters
| Dragonfire | Effect | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (orange) | Up to 80 damage, reduced by protection layers | Super antifire + Protect from Magic, or antifire + dragonfire shield, brings max hits down to 10 (wiki) |
| Venomous (green) | Envenoms you | Anti-venom+ or a Serpentine helm |
| Corrupting (pink) | Turns off all prayers, including Preserve | Set quick-prayers and re-click them at once |
| Deadly (purple, lobbed upward) | Up to 121; often a one-hit kill; half damage on adjacent tiles | Move two tiles away the moment it launches; no protection blocks it |
Because the pink dragonfire switches off Preserve, the wiki recommends divine potions over normal boosts. Recoil damage, including Vengeance and the Ring of recoil, does nothing to Vorkath.
Best prayer and shield setup for Vorkath
| Weapon setup | Shield slot | Prayer | Antifire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon hunter crossbow | Dragonfire ward or anti-dragon shield | Protect from Missiles | Extended antifire is enough with a shield; super is stronger |
| Crossbow with a Twisted buckler or Book of law | No dragonfire shield | Protect from Magic | Extended super antifire |
| Toxic blowpipe | None (two-handed) | Protect from Magic | Extended super antifire |
| Melee (lance, fang, rapier) | Avernic or dragon defender | Protect from Magic | Extended super antifire |
The wiki's lowest-damage setup is a crossbow with a dragonfire ward or anti-dragon shield and Protect from Missiles. A regular dragonfire shield has a Ranged penalty, so the wiki rates it below the anti-dragon shield for crossbows.
Vorkath acid phase and the Woox walk
Vorkath spits acid pools around the arena, and one always lands on your tile. Then it fires dragonfire at your current tile every tick. Acid deals up to 10 damage and heals Vorkath by that much. Rapid fire hits for 25–41 no matter what protection you have. Vorkath takes 50% less damage during this phase (wiki).
Safe walk (learn this first):
- Turn run off, or Ctrl-click to walk, as soon as the acid lands.
- Find a straight line of at least five clean tiles. The wiki notes there is always a clean line right next to the exit if you hug the wall.
- Walk back and forth on that line without stopping. Your true tile is about two tiles ahead of your character model, so turn around early.
- When the barrage ends, turn prayers and run back on and resume attacking.
Woox walk (faster kills): you keep attacking while you dodge. Turn on tile highlighting and "Highlight current tile", plus game sounds, so you can click on every fireball sound.
| Weapon | Woox walk pattern |
|---|---|
| Dragon hunter lance (4-tick) | Attack, then immediately walk two tiles back and attack again |
| Toxic blowpipe | Stand on the first tile out of range; clicking Vorkath steps you one tile in; step back between two clean tiles |
| Crossbow with range 7 | Walk the outer ring of the arena and attack when you're in front of a clean tile |
| Armadyl or Zaryte crossbow (range 8+) | Always in range, so the Woox walk doesn't work |
How to kill the Zombified Spawn
- After the sixth standard attack before the freeze, stop attacking. Vorkath is already immune, so extra hits are wasted.
- When the ice breath freezes you, the spawn (38 Hitpoints) lands ten tiles away and walks toward you.
- Cast Crumble Undead on it. It kills the spawn in one hit if your Magic attack bonus is above −64. A Slayer's staff set to autocast is the easiest switch. A Dust battlestaff saves dust runes (wiki).
- If the spawn reaches you, it explodes for damage based on its remaining health, up to 60.
Since June 30, 2026, transformation rings no longer let you skip the freeze (wiki changes table). Older guides that recommend the ring trick are out of date.
Best Vorkath gear by budget
Ranged (crossbow) tiers, best to budget (OSRS Wiki):
| Slot | Best | Strong | Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Dragon hunter crossbow | Toxic blowpipe / Bow of Faerdhinen | Armadyl or dragon crossbow, rune crossbow |
| Ammo | Ruby dragon bolts (e) then diamond dragon bolts (e) | Ruby bolts (e) then diamond bolts (e) | Same |
| Head | Masori mask (f) / Void ranger helm | Serpentine helm, Crystal helm | Karil's coif, Blessed coif |
| Neck | Salve amulet(ei) | Salve amulet(i) | (no substitute; the plain Salve gives no Ranged bonus) |
| Cape | Dizana's quiver | Ava's assembler | Ava's accumulator |
| Body / legs | Masori (f) / Elite void | Crystal | Karil's, Blessed, black d'hide |
| Shield | Dragonfire ward / Twisted buckler | Anti-dragon shield | Anti-dragon shield |
| Hands, feet, ring | Zaryte vambraces, Avernic treads, Venator ring | Barrows gloves, Pegasian boots, Archers ring (i) | Barrows gloves, Blessed boots, Ring of suffering (ri) |
| Special | Zaryte crossbow | Toxic blowpipe | Armadyl crossbow |
Ruby to diamond switch: fire ruby bolts until Vorkath is at about 250–300 Hitpoints (33–40%), then switch to diamond bolts (wiki).
Melee tiers:
| Slot | Best | Strong | Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Dragon hunter lance | Osmumten's fang | Ghrazi rapier, Zamorakian hasta |
| Head | Torva full helm / Slayer helmet (i) | Neitiznot faceguard, Serpentine helm | Helm of Neitiznot, Barrows helm |
| Neck | Amulet of rancour / Salve amulet(ei) | Amulet of torture | — |
| Body / legs | Torva | Bandos, Oathplate | Justiciar, Blood Moon, Barrows |
| Cape, shield | Infernal cape, Avernic defender | Fire cape, Dragon defender | Ardougne cloak 4 |
| Specials | Voidwaker, Burning claws | Dragon claws | Elder maul, Bandos godsword, Dragon warhammer |
Melee players pray Protect from Magic and stay in melee range between specials. The wiki notes that stepping out of range makes Vorkath use its ranged attack more often, so you take more damage overall. Below Bandos-level gear, favour Defence over Strength bonus if your trips are short. If the Fire cape in the strong column is still missing, the OSRS Fire Cape guide walks through the Fight Caves.
Vorkath inventory setup
| Item | Ranged (crossbow) | Melee | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extended super antifire | 1–2 | 1–2 | Drink before the first kill |
| Divine ranging or bastion / divine super combat | 1 | 1 | Divines aren't cancelled by the pink fire |
| Super restores or prayer potions | 3–4 | 3–4 | 1–2 if using a blowpipe |
| Extended anti-venom+ | 1 | 1 | Skip with a Serpentine helm |
| Rune pouch | Chaos + dust (or air + earth) + law | Same | Crumble Undead and Teleport to House |
| Crumble Undead staff | Slayer's staff | Slayer's staff | Autocast |
| Ammo switch | Diamond bolts (e) | — | For the last third of the kill |
| Food | Manta rays or sharks, plus karambwans | Anglerfish to overheal, then mantas | Fill the rest |
| Teleports | Rellekka teleport + emergency teleport | Same | See the bank routes below |
The wiki also suggests a pestle and mortar with a reagent pouch to crush superior dragon bones if your inventory fills up. A Huntsman's kit with Imp-in-a-boxes adds more loot space. Bald recommends 2–3 extended super antifire, and MyPvM suggests a brew-based inventory, so adjust to your own food needs.
Vorkath bank routes
| You have | Route (OSRS Wiki) |
|---|---|
| Fremennik sea boots 4 | Bank, then teleport to Rellekka and walk to Torfinn |
| POH in Rellekka + ornate pool | House teleport, pool, then exit portal to Torfinn |
| Lunar Isle portal | Bank with 'Birds-Eye' Jack, then the Return orb back to Rellekka |
| Waterbirth portal | Take the boat back; it lands on the west dock near Torfinn |
| Hard Kandarin Diary | Camelot teleport to Seers' bank, then house teleport |
| Ring of dueling | Ferox Enclave pool and bank chest (doesn't restore special attack) |
| Elite Desert Diary | Nardah statuette for restore and an HP boost, then bank south of it |
Wiki strategy notes say a crossbow setup at 99 Ranged with high Defence gets about 3–6 kills per trip. MyPvM's kills-per-hour figures are community estimates, not wiki data.
Vorkath drops and drop rates
Every kill drops 2 superior dragon bones and 2 blue dragonhides. You then get two rolls on the main table. Loot appears on one of eight tiles around Vorkath, depending on where you stand after it dies, and stays for up to 3 hours unless you leave the instance (wiki).
| Item | Rate (OSRS Wiki) |
|---|---|
| Scaly blue dragonhide | 1/10 |
| Vorkath's head (Ava's assembler) | 1/50; always drops by kill 50 |
| Elite clue scroll | 1/65 (1/61 with the elite Combat Achievement rewards) |
| Dragonbone necklace | 1/1,000 |
| Jar of Decay | 1/3,000 |
| Vorki (pet) | 1/3,000 |
| Draconic visage | 1/5,000 |
| Skeletal visage | 1/5,000 |
| Dragon platelegs / plateskirt / battleaxe / longsword | 2/150 each, per roll |
Main-table drops on the June 2025 lowered amounts: chaos runes 250–350 and death runes 200–300 (wiki changes). Brimstone keys only drop on a Konar task.
The guaranteed superior dragon bones are one of the fastest Prayer training bones in the game; the OSRS Prayer guide shows how far they go at a gilded altar.
Vorkath GP per hour
The OSRS Wiki's money-making pages list these hourly profits by weapon, at Grand Exchange prices when they were last updated:
| Setup | Wiki profit per hour |
|---|---|
| Dragon hunter lance | About 3.84M |
| Dragon hunter crossbow | About 3.44M |
| Toxic blowpipe | About 2.37M |
Those figures assume an experienced player with fast kills. Your first few dozen kills will be slower, and prices move, so treat them as a ceiling. The OSRS money making guide places Vorkath next to other mid-game earners.
Vorkath Combat Achievements, in order
| Order | Task | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vorkath Veteran (50 kills) | Elite |
| 2 | Stick 'em With the Pointy End (melee only) | Elite |
| 3 | Zombie Destroyer (kill the spawn without Crumble Undead) | Elite |
| 4 | Vorkath Master (100 kills) | Master |
| 5 | The Walk (hit 12 times in acid without being hit) | Master |
| 6 | Vorkath Speed-Chaser (under 1:15) | Master |
| 7 | Dodging the Dragon (5 kills, no special damage, no leaving) | Master |
| 8 | Extended Encounter (10 kills without leaving) | Master |
| 9 | Faithless Encounter (no prayer points lost) | Grandmaster |
| 10 | Vorkath Speed-Runner (under 0:54) | Grandmaster |
| 11 | The Fremennik Way (fists only) | Grandmaster |
There are 11 tasks worth 55 points in total (wiki). The kill-count tasks come with ordinary farming. Practise The Walk while you learn the Woox walk.
Plan for returning, boosted and alt accounts
- Returning players: the June 2025 changes added a 40% fire weakness and cut rune and manta drops. The June 2026 change removed the transformation ring freeze skip. Re-check your setup against the wiki gear tabs.
- Boosted accounts: if someone else trained your stats, learn the safe walk and spawn timing over your first kills before you try to Woox walk. A death here costs 100,000 coins to reclaim from Torfinn's instance (wiki infobox).
- Alts and Slayer: Vorkath counts as a blue dragon and a zombie, so most masters can assign it. That includes Turael, Spria, Mazchna, Vannaka, Chaeldar, Konar, Nieve and Duradel. It gives 750 Slayer XP per kill. The Salve amulet doesn't stack with a Slayer helmet. See the OSRS Slayer guide for task picks. For the next boss, the OSRS Zulrah guide is the usual companion money-maker and the OSRS Maggot King guide is the newer step up.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get to Vorkath? Finish Dragon Slayer II, then talk to Torfinn on the third dock from the west in Rellekka and choose Ungael. Climb the ice chunks to enter the crater.
What is the best prayer for Vorkath? Use Protect from Missiles if you're using a crossbow with a dragonfire ward or anti-dragon shield. Use Protect from Magic for melee, the blowpipe, or a crossbow with no dragonfire shield.
Do I need super antifire for Vorkath? You need two protection layers. That means an extended super antifire with Protect from Magic, or a regular antifire with a dragonfire shield. Either keeps standard dragonfire at a 10 max hit (wiki).
Is Vorkath worth it for money? For most mid-game accounts, yes. The OSRS Wiki lists about 3.4M per hour with a Dragon hunter crossbow and about 3.8M with a Dragon hunter lance, and the drops are steady rather than unique-driven.
Is the Woox walk required? No. The safe walk on a clean line works fine. The Woox walk speeds up kills because you keep attacking during acid, but you deal only half damage while it lasts.
Can Vorkath be a Slayer task? Yes. It counts as a blue dragon and a zombie for tasks, and an imbued Slayer helmet works, but it doesn't stack with the Salve amulet.
