THE GUIDE

This Midnight PvP tier list ranks every DPS and healer spec for Season 2 on patch 12.1.5, plus the six tanks for battlegrounds. It doesn't copy anyone else's tier letters. Each spec is placed by where its top players actually finish on the live ladders in four brackets, and the method is spelled out below so you can check it yourself. The data is a snapshot from October 28, 2026, the day after Blizzard's October 27 PvP tuning hotfixes.

Quick summary

  • S tier DPS (October 28): Subtlety Rogue, Arms Warrior, Unholy Death Knight, Retribution Paladin, Balance Druid and Fire Mage. Each one averages a top-7 finish across Solo Shuffle, 3v3, 2v2 and Battleground Blitz.
  • Best PvP healer: Preservation Evoker. It's first in Solo Shuffle, 3v3 and Blitz and second in 2v2.
  • Best PvP tanks: Guardian Druid and Protection Warrior lead the Blitz ladder. Tanks don't play rated arenas.
  • The bracket matters. Fire Mage is first in Shuffle but 15th in 2v2. Windwalker is second in 2v2 but 23rd in Blitz. Pick for the mode you queue.
  • The list will move. On October 27, Blizzard cut Subtlety's damage by 8% and Fire Mage's PvP damage by 5%, and buffed several healers. Most of that isn't in the ratings yet.

How this PvP tier list is ranked

Every tier on this page comes from one rule:

  1. Data source: Murlok.io's live leaderboards, which track active top-rated players in the US, EU, KR and TW regions and refresh every 8 hours. Each spec gets a score from its top players' ratings, and Murlok ranks DPS (27 specs) and healers (7 specs) in separate pools.
  2. Four brackets: Solo Shuffle, 3v3, 2v2 and Battleground Blitz. We average the spec's rank in each of them. Rated battlegrounds have a much smaller population, so they appear in the bracket table but don't count toward the tier.
  3. DPS cutoffs (average rank): S is 7.5 or better, A is 7.6 to 10, B is 10.1 to 15, C is 15.1 to 20, and D is above 20.
  4. Healer cutoffs: S is 2 or better, A is 2.1 to 4, B is 4.1 to 5.5, and C is above 5.5.
  5. Cross-check: ArenaCoach's Solo Shuffle ladder round win rate, from about 3.75 million rounds played by 91,401 characters rated 1,000 or higher (October 28). A win rate near 50% is normal. We only call it out when it's far from the pack.

This is a data snapshot, not a power ranking. Ratings react to hotfixes slowly, because top players need games to climb or fall.

Demonology Warlock D 25.8 26 25 26 26 49.4%
Augmentation Evoker D 26.8 27 26 27 27 52.8%

Bracket columns are Murlok ranks out of 27 DPS specs, read October 28. Augmentation's 52.8% round win rate comes from only 34,316 rounds, the smallest sample on ArenaCoach's ladder, so don't read much into it.

Example: you're torn between Unholy and Frost Death Knight for Solo Shuffle. Unholy is third in Shuffle and S tier overall. Frost is 24th of 27 in Shuffle and D tier. If you want to climb on a Death Knight this season, play Unholy.

Best PvP healers in Midnight Season 2

Healer Tier Avg rank Shuffle 3v3 2v2 Blitz Shuffle round WR
Preservation Evoker S 1.3 1 1 2 1 50.3%
Mistweaver Monk A 2.8 3 2 3 3 49.2%
Discipline Priest A 3.3 4 6 1 2 50.6%
Restoration Druid A 3.8 2 3 4 6 49.5%
Holy Priest B 5.3 6 4 7 4 51.2%
Restoration Shaman C 5.8 5 7 6 5 49.8%
Holy Paladin C 6.0 7 5 5 7 49.0%

Ranks are out of 7 healers. Three of the bottom four healers were buffed on October 27, after most of these ratings were set:

  • Holy Paladin: +5% healing in PvP, and Divine Favor now cuts Holy Light's mana cost by 50% (was 30%).
  • Restoration Shaman: Healing Stream Totem and Stormstream Totem heal 20% more in PvP.
  • Holy Priest (Archon): Prayer of Healing heals 30% more in PvP, and several Archon procs were doubled.

The changes are listed in Icy Veins' October 27 hotfix summary, which mirrors Blizzard's hotfix post. If you main one of these healers, watch whether its ranks climb over the next two weeks. Our Holy Paladin guide and Restoration Shaman guide cover their PvP picks.

Example: a Holy Paladin who loves Blessing of Protection and Freedom wants to try 3v3. Paladin is fifth of seven healers there, ahead of Discipline and Resto Shaman, and it just got a healing buff. That's a playable pick with a coordinated team, even though its Shuffle rank is last.

Best PvP tanks for Battleground Blitz

Tanks only matter in Battleground Blitz, rated battlegrounds and casual BGs, mostly as flag carriers and objective holders. They're ranked on Murlok's Blitz ladder alone (October 28):

Tank Tier Blitz rank Top-player score
Guardian Druid A 1 2,301
Protection Warrior A 2 2,288
Blood Death Knight B 3 2,065
Protection Paladin B 4 2,032
Vengeance Demon Hunter C 5 1,775
Brewmaster Monk C 6 1,647

Tank tiers use the score gaps: Guardian and Warrior are within 15 points of each other, Blood and Paladin sit about 250 points lower, and Vengeance and Brewmaster are another 250 below that. No tank reaches S, because even the top tank score (2,301) is below 24 of the 27 DPS specs' Blitz scores. Our Blood Death Knight guide covers the PvP talents if you want to flag-carry on a Death Knight.

Solo Shuffle, 3v3, 2v2 and Blitz tier lists by bracket

The overall tier hides big bracket swings. These are the top picks in each bracket on Murlok's October 28 ladders:

Bracket Top DPS Top healers What it rewards
Solo Shuffle Fire Mage, Retribution Paladin, Unholy DK, Balance Druid, Havoc DH Preservation, Restoration Druid, Mistweaver Self-sufficient specs that can win with random partners
3v3 Arena Subtlety Rogue, Fire Mage, Unholy DK, Havoc DH, Balance Druid Preservation, Mistweaver, Restoration Druid Setup and stun chains with a coordinated team
2v2 Arena Assassination Rogue, Windwalker Monk, Arms Warrior, Subtlety Rogue, Affliction Warlock Discipline, Preservation, Mistweaver Constant pressure and strong self-defensives
Battleground Blitz Balance Druid, Retribution Paladin, Marksmanship Hunter, Subtlety Rogue, Arms Warrior Preservation, Discipline, Mistweaver Range, AoE pressure and mobility on objectives
Rated battlegrounds Balance Druid, Assassination Rogue, Subtlety Rogue, Marksmanship Hunter, Retribution Paladin Holy Priest, Discipline, Preservation Same as Blitz, but with a much smaller population

Example: a Subtlety Rogue who only queues Solo Shuffle is playing the spec's weakest bracket (11th). The same character in 3v3 is on the spec's best ladder (1st), because its stun setups pay off most with a partner who follows up.

Why the top PvP specs lead

  • Subtlety Rogue: first in 3v3 and top four in 2v2 and Blitz. Its weak spot is Solo Shuffle, where it's 11th and has the lowest round win rate of any S or A spec (48.2%). It's also the spec most likely to fall: Blizzard cut all Subtlety ability damage by 8% on October 27, saying the 12.1.5 compensation buff "overshot expectations."
  • Arms Warrior: never lower than seventh in any of the four brackets. It's the most consistent spec on the list, which is why it ranks S without leading anywhere.
  • Unholy Death Knight: top three in Shuffle and 3v3. The October 27 hotfix cut San'layn's Vampiric Strike by 20% in PvP, so watch its Shuffle rank this week.
  • Retribution Paladin: second in Shuffle and Blitz, but 16th in 2v2. It has the biggest melee population on ArenaCoach's Shuffle ladder (14,068 characters). Our Retribution Paladin guide covers its PvP build.
  • Balance Druid: first in Blitz and rated battlegrounds and fourth in Shuffle. It falls to 19th in 2v2, where there's no team to cover its casts.
  • Fire Mage: first in Shuffle and second in 3v3, with the highest round win rate of any large-sample DPS spec (51.8%). Blizzard cut Fire's PvP damage by 5% on October 27 because it "has continued to overperform."

Best PvP specs for beginners and solo players

There's no "easy" stat on a ladder, so use this as a decision aid, not a ranking:

  • Solo players: queue Solo Shuffle with a spec that ranks well there on its own. Fire Mage, Retribution Paladin, Unholy DK and Balance Druid are top four in Shuffle. Preservation and Restoration Druid are the top two healers.
  • Healers get faster queues. Every Shuffle lobby needs two healers for six players, so healers usually wait less than DPS.
  • Learn in 2v2 or skirmishes first. A spec you can't play yet will lose rating fast in Shuffle, whatever its tier.
  • Avoid specs whose rank depends on a partner until you have one. Subtlety (11th in Shuffle, 1st in 3v3) is the clearest example.

Our Solo Shuffle beginner guide explains how to review your rounds and position.

Climb with the list

  1. Pick from S or A only if you enjoy the spec. All six S DPS specs have been tuned down at least once this season, and two were hit again on October 27.
  2. Queue the bracket your spec is built for. Use the bracket table, not only the overall tier.
  3. Check the ladder weekly. Murlok refreshes every 8 hours, so a Tuesday hotfix can move a spec a full tier by the weekend.
  4. Gear before rating. A fresh character in Honor gear will underperform any tier list. Our Season 2 gearing guide covers upgrade tracks.

If you're returning, boosted, or making an alt

  • Returning from Season 1: Devourer was a headline spec then. It's B tier now (ninth in Shuffle, 21st in 3v3), even after the October 27 Collapsing Star buff. See our Devourer Demon Hunter guide.
  • Boosted characters: a high rating bought or carried on a spec you can't play drops fast in Shuffle. Learn the spec in skirmishes and 2v2 first.
  • Alts: an S-tier alt earns its own Conquest gear fastest while Spoils of War is active. If queue time matters more than rating, a healer such as Preservation or Mistweaver gets into Shuffle lobbies quicker.
