TBC Anniversary Herbalism Leveling Guide 1-375: Phase 3.5 Routes
TBC Anniversary herbalism leveling guide 1-375: zone route, herb skill tables, Master trainers, Fel Lotus odds and which herbs sell for flasks.

In this guide 10 sections
Quick summary
- Herbalism is gather-only. There's no crafting shortcut. You level it by picking herbs that are orange or yellow for your skill (Icy Veins).
- Train five ranks: Apprentice at 1, then Journeyman at 50, Expert at 125, Artisan at 200 and Master at 275 skill (listed at character level 40 to 55, which you'll have passed by the time you reach Outland at 58).
- Master Herbalism is in Hellfire Peninsula: Rorelien in the Honor Hold wizard's tower (Alliance) or Ruak Stronghorn in the big tower at Thrallmar (Horde) (wow-professions).
- Outland route: Hellfire Peninsula 300-325, Terokkar Forest 325-350, Netherstorm 350-375. wow-professions swaps in Nagrand or Blade's Edge for 315-325.
- Felweed and Dreaming Glory give points all the way to 375, so you can finish in any Outland zone if your favorite one is crowded (wow-professions).
This TBC Anniversary herbalism leveling guide is current for Phase 3.5, the Zul'Aman update of October 22, 2026. That update changed no herbs, nodes or trainers. It did make raiding easier to get into: Blizzard removed the Black Temple and Hyjal attunements and added badges to older raid bosses. More raiders means steady demand for flask herbs. Herbalism in TBC has no passive stat bonus. The Lifeblood heal was added in Wrath of the Lich King (Warcraft Wiki).
Understand herb colors and skill-ups
Learning Herbalism gives you Find Herbs, which shows herb nodes on your minimap. Keep it on whenever you're out gathering. Herb colors work like this (Icy Veins):
| Color | Can you pick it? | Skill-up chance |
|---|---|---|
| Red | No | None |
| Orange | Yes, may fail | Every successful pick gives a point |
| Yellow | Yes, occasionally fails | Most picks give a point |
| Green | Yes, rarely fails | Rarely gives a point |
| Gray | Yes, never fails | Never |
Herbalism needs no tool. Icy Veins recommends movement speed, such as Crusader Aura or a Riding Crop. It also points out that Druids can gather while in Flight Form and Swift Flight Form, so they never have to remount between herbs.
Train every rank on time
| Herbalism rank | Train at skill | Character level | Raises cap to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 1 | 5 | 75 |
| Journeyman | 50 | 10 | 150 |
| Expert | 125 | 20 | 225 |
| Artisan | 200 | 35 | 300 |
| Master | 275 | 40–55 | 375 |
The character level for Master Herbalism is listed anywhere from 40 to 55 depending on the guide. It won't hold you back: you reach Rorelien or Ruak Stronghorn in Hellfire Peninsula at 58 or higher, above every figure.
City guards mark the nearest Herbalism trainer. wow-professions lists them:
| Faction | Classic trainers (1-300) | Master trainer (300-375) |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Reyna Stonebranch (Ironforge), Tannysa (Stormwind), Firodren Mooncaller (Darnassus), Herbalist Pomeroy (Elwynn), Malorne Bladeleaf (Teldrassil), Kali Healtouch (Loch Modan), Cylania Rootstalker (Ashenvale), Telurinon Moonshadow (Wetlands), Brant Jasperbloom (Dustwallow), Alma Jainrose (Redridge), Cemmorhan (Exodar) | Rorelien, Honor Hold, first floor of the wizard's tower, /way 53.6 65.8 |
| Horde | Jandi (Orgrimmar), Martha Alliestar (Undercity), Komin Winterhoof (Thunder Bluff), Faruza (Tirisfal), Mishiki (Durotar), Angrun (Stranglethorn), Aranae Venomblood (Hillsbrad), Botanist Nathera (Silvermoon) | Ruak Stronghorn, Thrallmar, big tower up the hill, /way 52.2 36.3 |
Level Herbalism 1-300 in Azeroth
| Skill | Herbs to pick | Zones (wow-professions / Icy Veins) |
|---|---|---|
| 1-50 | Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot (15+) | Any starter zone |
| 50-70 | Earthroot, Mageroyal | Starter zones into the Barrens, Silverpine, Loch Modan, Darkshore |
| 70-115 | Briarthorn, Mageroyal, Stranglekelp (85+), Bruiseweed (100+) | The Barrens, Silverpine Forest, Loch Modan, Darkshore |
| 115-170 | Wild Steelbloom, Bruiseweed, Kingsblood (125+), Liferoot (150+) | Hillsbrad Foothills, Wetlands, Stonetalon Mountains |
| 170-205 | Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar's Whisker (185+), Kingsblood, Liferoot | A higher-level zone than 115-170. Icy Veins warns that many herbs there will still be red at first |
| 205-230 | Firebloom, Purple Lotus | Tanaris, Searing Gorge |
| 230-270 | Sungrass, Purple Lotus, Ghost Mushroom (245+), Golden Sansam (260+) | The Hinterlands (wow-professions) or Felwood (Icy Veins) |
| 270-300 | Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage (280+), Plaguebloom (285+), Golden Sansam, Gromsblood | Felwood, or Winterspring for Silversage and Icecap from 280-300 |
These thresholds come from the herb table in Icy Veins' Herbalism guide. Herbs in the 1-300 range that matter most:
| Herb | Orange | Gray | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Briarthorn | 70 | 170 | Near trees, low to mid zones |
| Kingsblood | 125 | 225 | Mid-level zones |
| Khadgar's Whisker | 185 | 285 | Mid-level zones |
| Firebloom | 205 | 305 | Badlands, Tanaris, Searing Gorge, Blasted Lands |
| Purple Lotus | 210 | 310 | Near ruins, mid to high zones |
| Sungrass | 230 | 330 | High-level zones |
| Dreamfoil | 270 | 370 | High-level zones |
| Mountain Silversage | 280 | 380 | High-level zones |
| Icecap | 290 | 390 | Winterspring |
Example: at 205 in Tanaris, every Firebloom is orange and gives a guaranteed point. By about 230, Firebloom turns yellow and Sungrass opens up, so you move to the Hinterlands or Felwood instead of picking the yellow Firebloom.
Note that Icy Veins tells you to train Artisan before the 205-230 section. Expert caps at 225, so do it as soon as you reach 200.
Level Herbalism 300-375 in Outland
Train Master in Hellfire Peninsula first. These are the Outland herbs (Icy Veins):
| Herb | Orange | Yellow | Green | Gray | Where | Extra loot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Felweed | 300 | 325 | 350 | 400 | Every Outland zone | Mote of Life 15%, Fel Blossom 10%, Fel Lotus 1.5% |
| Dreaming Glory | 315 | 340 | 365 | 415 | Every Outland zone | Mote of Life 15%, Fel Lotus 2% |
| Ragveil | 325 | 350 | 375 | 425 | Zangarmarsh | Mote of Life 15%, Fel Lotus 2% |
| Terocone | 325 | 350 | 375 | 425 | Terokkar Forest, Shadowmoon Valley | Mote of Life 15%, Fel Lotus 3% |
| Flame Cap | 335 | 360 | 385 | 435 | Zangarmarsh | Fel Lotus 2% |
| Ancient Lichen | 340 | 365 | 390 | 440 | Auchindoun and Coilfang dungeons | Fel Lotus 1.5% |
| Netherbloom | 350 | 375 | 400 | 450 | Netherstorm | Mote of Mana 15%, Fel Lotus 3% |
| Nightmare Vine | 365 | 390 | 415 | 465 | Shadowmoon Valley, Throne of Kil'jaeden (Hellfire) | Nightmare Seed 10%, Fel Lotus 3% |
| Mana Thistle | 375 | 400 | 425 | 475 | Level 70 areas of Outland | Mote of Life 15%, Fel Lotus 3% |
Ten Motes of Life combine into one Primal Life, which crafters use in many Outland recipes. Motes of Mana from Netherbloom combine the same way into Primal Mana.
The route
| Skill | Zone | Pick | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300-315 | Hellfire Peninsula | Felweed, plus leftover Azeroth herbs (Dreamfoil, Golden Sansam, Mountain Silversage, Blindweed) | Icy Veins notes these Classic herbs spawn in Hellfire and Zangarmarsh |
| 315-325 | Hellfire Peninsula, or Nagrand / Blade's Edge | Felweed, Dreaming Glory | wow-professions prefers Nagrand or Blade's Edge for more Outland herbs |
| 325-350 | Terokkar Forest | Felweed, Dreaming Glory, Terocone | Terocone is orange from 325 |
| 350-375 | Netherstorm | Netherbloom, Felweed, Dreaming Glory | Netherbloom is orange from 350; finish in any zone if Netherstorm is busy |
Example: a druid with 330 Herbalism flies Terokkar in Flight Form, picking Terocone (orange, guaranteed) and Felweed (yellow). At 350, Netherbloom becomes orange, so the druid flies to Netherstorm.
If you can't fly yet
wow-professions says leveling characters will usually reach 375 just by picking herbs while questing, and that its Outland routes are mainly for level 70 players with flying mounts. Icy Veins adds an Azeroth fallback: you can push to about 325-345 on old-world herbs if Outland is crowded. Past that, skill-ups get much harder.
Know what the herbs are worth
| Item | Why it matters (Icy Veins) |
|---|---|
| Fel Lotus | Needed for every TBC flask. It drops from any Outland herb at a low rate, so you can't farm it directly |
| Mana Thistle | Needed for every TBC flask. Icy Veins calls it one of the most expensive normal herbs |
| Ancient Lichen | Used in many potions and flasks. It only spawns inside dungeons |
| Flame Cap | Usable: Fire damage proc and +80 Fire spell damage for 1 minute |
| Nightmare Seed | Usable: +2,000 health for 30 seconds, popular with tanks |
| Fel Blossom | Usable by Herbalists: absorbs 750-1,250 damage |
With Black Temple, Hyjal and Zul'Aman all open in Phase 3.5, flask demand from Alchemists is a steady reason to keep Herbalism on a main. Herbalism plus Alchemy is the classic pairing. See our TBC Anniversary Alchemy guide for which herbs each recipe needs, and our gold farming guide for how herb farming compares with other gold methods.
Use Herbalism for the Netherwing dailies
Herbalism also unlocks a reputation daily. Once you reach the Netherwing dailies on Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley, the Netherdust Pollen quest asks you to pick 40 pollen from Netherdust Bushes and turn it in for Netherwing reputation (Icy Veins Netherwing guide). It's one of three profession dailies. Mining and Skinning have their own versions. You can only do one of the three each day, but it stacks with the other Netherwing dailies. The bushes can also drop a Netherwing Egg, which you turn in for extra reputation. The dailies need a flying mount, so see our flying mount guide first.
Avoid these mistakes
- Missing Artisan at 200. Expert caps at 225, and the Tanaris section starts at 205.
- Going to Outland without Master. You'll be stuck at 300 with Felweed red.
- Picking green herbs for points. They rarely give skill-ups. Move zones when your main herb turns green.
- Forgetting Find Herbs after you die or relog. Without tracking, you'll miss most nodes.
- Ignoring dungeon herbs. Ancient Lichen only spawns in Auchindoun and Coilfang dungeons. If you run heroics for badges, pick it.
- Vendoring Fel Lotus or Motes. Flask makers need them.
Return, boost, or level an alt
- Returning player at 300: train Master in Hellfire and follow the Outland route. Phase 3.5 doesn't change it.
- Boosted or fresh 70: level 1-300 by flying through Azeroth zones. The route table above shows the order. A flying mount speeds up Terokkar and Netherstorm a lot. See our flying mount guide.
- Leveling alt: train it at level 5 and pick herbs while you quest. wow-professions says most leveling characters reach 375 naturally. Our leveling guide 1-70 has the questing route those herbs sit on.
- Druid alt: Druids can pick herbs without leaving Flight Form (Icy Veins), which saves a remount on every node. Our druid guide covers getting Flight Form and Swift Flight Form.
- Second gathering profession: Mining pays for Engineering, Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting, and it uses the same flying routes. See our Mining leveling guide, or compare every profession in our best professions guide.

FAQ
Where is the Master Herbalism trainer in TBC Anniversary? Hellfire Peninsula. Alliance: Rorelien in the Honor Hold wizard's tower. Horde: Ruak Stronghorn in the big tower at Thrallmar. Both need 275 Herbalism.
What's the best zone for Herbalism 350-375? Netherstorm, for Netherbloom (Icy Veins, wow-professions). Felweed and Dreaming Glory in any zone also work if Netherstorm is crowded.
Can I level Herbalism to 375 without a flying mount? Yes. Hellfire, Terokkar and Netherstorm all have ground-reachable herbs, and wow-professions says leveling players usually reach 375 while questing.
What herb drops Fel Lotus? Any Outland herb can, at about 1.5-3% depending on the herb (Icy Veins).
Is Herbalism or Mining better with Alchemy? Herbalism. Almost every Alchemy recipe uses herbs, so gathering your own saves the most money. Mining helps Alchemy only through a few transmutes.
Does Herbalism give a bonus in TBC Anniversary? No. Herbalism has no passive bonus in TBC, since the Lifeblood heal arrived in Wrath of the Lich King. Its value is the herbs themselves and the Netherdust Pollen daily.
