WoW Sporebearer Fungal Strider: 5M Gold Mount Guide (12.1.5)
Sporebearer Fungal Strider guide: where to buy the 5M gold mount, AH and transmog unlocks, passenger setup per alt, the deadline and if it's worth it.

In this guide 15 sections
The Sporebearer Fungal Strider is World of Warcraft: Midnight's 5 million gold mount, added in patch 12.1.5. Like the old Mighty Caravan Brutosaur, it carries NPCs you can use anywhere, but you choose which ones ride along. This guide covers where to buy it, what each unlock costs, how the passenger setup works on every character, how long it stays on sale, and whether it's worth the gold for you.
Quick summary
- Price and vendor: 5,000,000 gold from Showena in The Den, Harandar, near the portals to Silvermoon City and Voidstorm. It's account-wide, and learning it awards the Feat of Strength "Fungal Not Frugal" (Wowhead).
- Included NPCs: a Mail Courier and Repairs. The Auction House unlock costs 1,500,000 and the Transmogrifier unlock 500,000, so everything costs 7,000,000 gold.
- Two passengers ride at a time. You set them with Hoshena next to Showena, per character, and you can't swap them in the field.
- Deadline: Blizzard sells the mount "only... until the end of World of Warcraft: Midnight." The NPC unlocks stay available after that.
- Worth it if you use the Auction House daily, don't own an AH mount, and can spare 6.5–7M gold. It's convenience, not character power.
Sporebearer Fungal Strider cost
| Item | Gold | Sold by |
|---|---|---|
| Sporebearer Fungal Strider (Mail Courier and Repairs) | 5,000,000 | Showena, The Den, Harandar |
| Unlock Auction House | 1,500,000 | Showena |
| Unlock Transmogrifier | 500,000 | Showena |
| Mount plus Auction House | 6,500,000 | — |
| Everything | 7,000,000 | — |
The base price comes from Blizzard's announcement, and the unlock prices from Wowhead and Method's vendor guide. Wowhead commenters report no discounts; Goblin racials don't apply, for example. The 5M Brutosaur had its reputation discount removed before launch too, so don't wait for one.
Where to buy the Sporebearer Fungal Strider
- Go to The Den in Harandar. Showena stands just in front of the portals to Silvermoon City and Voidstorm (Method).
- Buy the mount from Showena, at about
/way #2576 62.0 68.3. - Buy any unlocks from Showena in the same window.
- Talk to Hoshena, just to the left of Showena, and pick your two passengers.
Our Renown guide covers Harandar's faction if you haven't been there much.
How the passengers work
| Passenger | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Mail Courier | Included |
| Repairs | Included |
| Transmogrifier | Unlock, 500,000 |
| Auctioneer | Unlock, 1,500,000 |
Up to two ride at a time. Blizzard says players "who collect more NPCs than the mount can hold" switch them "by speaking to an NPC in Harandar," and that it's "considering adding additional mount NPCs in future patches" (Icy Veins' summary quotes the full post).
Set it up on every character. Wowhead's top comment says every character on the account sets its own passengers with Hoshena, and the mount starts with none selected. Players report summoning it on an alt and finding no NPCs. Stop at Hoshena once as each alt reaches Harandar.
Best passenger pair for your play style
| Your play style | Pair | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Auction House player | Auctioneer + Mail Courier | Buy, sell and collect anywhere. This is why most people buy it |
| Raider | Repairs + Auctioneer | Repair after wipes and buy consumables between pulls |
| Transmog collector | Transmogrifier + Repairs | Change outfits on the spot |
| Gatherer or farmer | Mail Courier + Repairs | No extra unlock needed |
| Alt leveler | Repairs + Transmogrifier | Fix and restyle while questing |
Example: a raider who also flips consumables on the Auction House runs Repairs + Auctioneer on raid night, then swaps to Auctioneer + Mail Courier at Hoshena for a weekend of selling. That's one trip to Harandar each way.
Sporebearer Fungal Strider vs other utility mounts
| Mount | Cost | NPCs | Can you still buy it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sporebearer Fungal Strider | 5M (7M with all unlocks) | Mail and Repairs, plus Transmog and AH unlocks; 2 at a time | Yes, until Midnight ends |
| Mighty Caravan Brutosaur | 5M | Auctioneer and vendor | No; removed from vendors in the Shadowlands pre-patch, Black Market Auction House only |
| Grand Expedition Yak | 120,000 | Vendor and repair, transmogrifier | Yes, from Uncle Bigpocket in Kun-Lai Summit |
| Traveler's Tundra Mammoth | Gold (Wrath-era vendor) | Two vendors, one repairs | Yes, from Mei Francis in Dalaran |
| Trader's Gilded Brutosaur | In-Game Shop | Auctioneer and mailbox | Shop only, during limited windows |
The Strider is the only one with swappable seats, and the only gold-bought mount with an Auction House NPC still on a vendor.
How long is the Sporebearer Fungal Strider for sale?
Until the end of Midnight. Blizzard sold the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur for 5M gold in Battle for Azeroth, then pulled it from vendors when Shadowlands launched and moved it to the Black Market Auction House. Blizzard's 2019 reasoning, quoted on Wowhead, was that it didn't want "AH mounts that are as common as repair mounts are today." Wowhead commenters spent years reporting rare BMAH listings bid to the gold cap within minutes.
The Strider has the same kind of deadline. Midnight's end date isn't announced, and the next patch, 12.1.7, is still part of Midnight; our 12.1.7 Echoes of the Worldcore guide covers its expected timing. If you plan to buy, buy during Midnight. The unlocks stay available after that.
Is the Sporebearer Fungal Strider worth it?
| Your situation | Our call | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You own no AH mount and use the Auction House daily | Buy, with the AH unlock (6.5M) | It saves trips to town every session |
| You already own a Brutosaur | Probably skip | You'd only gain transmog and swappable seats |
| You have under 5M gold | Wait | There's no deadline before Midnight ends. Build gold first |
| You're a collector | Buy it before Midnight ends | Feat of Strength, and it gets much harder to find later |
| You play mostly one character | Good fit | Per-character setup is a one-time visit |
| You play 20+ alts | Expect setup trips | Each alt needs its own Hoshena visit |
One Wowhead commenter notes it's taller than the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur, so some doorways and raid spaces may be awkward on it. That's a player report, not a Blizzard note.
What the Fungal Strider doesn't do
- No bank. The four passengers are the Mail Courier, Repairs, the Transmogrifier and the Auctioneer. Blizzard has only said it's "considering" more NPCs.
- No character power. It's a convenience mount with no stats or raid benefit.
- No field swapping. You change passengers at Hoshena in Harandar, not from the mount.
- No resale. Wowhead lists it as bind on pickup, so buy it only if you'll use it.
Mistakes to avoid when buying it
- Buying the AH unlock when you already own an AH mount. The gain is only transmog and swappable seats.
- Forgetting to visit Hoshena on each character. The mount starts with no passengers.
- Spending your raid gold first. Keep consumable and repair gold for the season; the weekly checklist helps you plan.
- Waiting for a discount. None has been reported, and the 5M Brutosaur never got one.
- Assuming it returns later. Blizzard's only promise is the sale window.
How to budget 5 million gold
At 500,000 gold a week, 6.5M (mount plus AH) takes 13 weeks. At 1M a week, it's 7 weeks. Your rate depends on professions and play time. Our gold farming routes and professions guide cover the main income sources, and the housing guide covers the other big gold sink this expansion.
