WoW 12.1.7 Echoes of the Worldcore: Release Date, Talebound, PTR

Patch 12.1.7, Echoes of the Worldcore, is the next World of Warcraft: Midnight update. It adds Talebound, a standalone story mode with its own classes and cosmetic store, an eight-week Turbulent Timeways event with a mount, four Lorewalking stories, two Omnium Folio runes and the Return to Dornogal campaign. This WoW 12.1.7 guide covers the expected release date, every announced feature, what the PTR builds have datamined, and what to finish in 12.1.5 first.

The primary sources are Blizzard's 12.1.7 PTR development notes and Wowhead's patch overview; datamined items come from MMO-Champion's build posts and may change.

Quick summary

• When does 12.1.7 come out? Blizzard hasn't announced a date. The roadmap says late autumn or early winter, Wowhead expects December 2026, and Blizzard Watch estimates December 8 for NA. The patch has been on the PTR since October 15, with a second build on October 22.
• Talebound is a new standalone mode. Pick one of three classes, play four tales and a Final Confrontation, and spend Warband-bound Bound Silver on mounts, transmog and decor (Blizzard; Wowhead).
• Turbulent Timeways VI runs eight weeks and awards the Markeet of the Infinite mount for Mastery of the Timeways in any four of them (Blizzard; Warcraft Wiki). The October 22 build's achievement text now says four weeks too.
• The story continues in Dornogal with "The Return to Dornogal." There are four new Lorewalking stories (Jaina, Thrall, the Titans, Tyr) and two new Omnium Folio runes, plus two more Motes of Omnial Inquiry.
• Datamining shows 171 decor items across two builds, about a dozen new mounts and a Winter Veil update with neighborhood activities (MMO-Champion). Some items may not ship in 12.1.7.

WoW 12.1.7 release date

Blizzard hasn't announced a live date. Wowhead says "we expect it in December 2026." Blizzard Watch reads the roadmap's "late autumn or early winter" and estimates December 8 for NA. The same cadence math predicted October 6 for 12.1.5, which went live on October 13 (NA), so treat any exact date as a guess until Blizzard posts one.

Blizzard's notes have no class tuning so far, so current spec guides such as our Arcane Mage, Arms Warrior and Assassination Rogue guides still apply.

The Return to Dornogal campaign

Xal'atath has breached the Worldcore, and the only way in is the damaged Coreway in Dornogal (Blizzard). You'll work with Arator, Brinthe, Dagran and Brann to reach it. Wowhead describes it as a continuation of the Midnight campaign in Khaz Algar.

Datamined: the campaign achievement is The Coreway Advance (10 points, account-wide, reward "TBD"). Blizzard hasn't listed the campaign's gear or reputation rewards.

What is Talebound in WoW 12.1.7?

Wowhead compares Talebound to Remix and Plunderstorm. A Storyteller spins tales, and you play through them solo or with friends. You fight enemies and bosses, solve puzzles, and find treasure and relics (Blizzard; MMO Central).

Track the bosses

Datamined achievements name nine bosses, each with any-difficulty, Veteran, Heroic and Mythic versions. The Fairy Queen (Tilywth), the Giant of Greenthistle Wood (Mobog), the Hadal Tyrant (Zzyg'th), the Herald from Beyond (Chathoa), the Lord Marshal (Konrad von Sonnesheim), the Nightmare King (Maernok), the Vampire Bishop (Alexandre Dozsenc), the Witch of the Wilds (Ylska Vilefang) and the Witch of the Woods (Granny Greenthumb). Each achievement awards 20 Bound Silver. Mythic versions are worth 10 achievement points, and the others are worth 5 (MMO-Champion).

Collect the Talebound mounts

Datamined Talebound mounts: Shadowbound Storybook (named by Blizzard as a Bound Silver reward), Autumn Dream Jumper, Stone-Carved Crusher, Shadowpaw Wood Watcher, Faith-Cursed Courser, Night Court Courier and the Gilnean Copper Charger. Several were renamed from earlier Trading Post placeholders (MMO-Champion).

Our suggestion: bank your four weeks early. The first PTR build's achievement text said five weeks; the October 22 build changed it to four, matching Blizzard's announcement, but a buffer week costs nothing. 12.1.7 Lorewalking stories

Speak with Apprentice Lorewalker Li Li Stormstout in Stormwind or Orgrimmar from level 10 (Blizzard). There are four new storylines. You can repeat them, pause them, and use Ask a Question in the UI, but you can't progress other quests while Lorewalking. Starting a different story before you finish resets your progress.

New Omnium Folio runes

You can earn two more Motes of Omnial Inquiry, and there are two new runes (Blizzard):

• Rune of Empowerment: your stat rune (Critical Power, Burning Haste, Masterful Cunning or Versatile Warrior) gives 20% more of its stat.
• Rune of Critical Mass: your Core Rune can call down 3 Void orbs within 5 yards (Rune of Void-Touched Orbs), or a Fire blast split within 10 yards (Rune of Unleashed Fire). Either one damages enemies or heals allies.

Wowhead's advice is to max the Folio now if you haven't. Builds are in our Omnium Folio guide. Magister Umbric, Grand Magister Rommath and Custodian Veldharin in the Lycaneum on the Isle of Quel'Danas tell its history.

12.1.7 mounts, decor and other datamined items

MMO-Champion's datamining lists 163 new decor items in the first build and 8 more on October 22, noting that some may not arrive in 12.1.7. Decor needs room, so see our housing guide for storage and house level. Other datamined items:

• Winter Veil: Winterrrgl's Pine-Powered Candy Cane Contraption (a skyriding broom, dropped by the Greench), the Throw Bow toy with the "Bow Go" and "Let's Put A Bow On It" achievements, and the Petite Snow Buddy pet. The October 22 build adds seven Winter Veil achievements, including neighborhood activities such as "Tree-fense" and "Candy Cane Brigade."
• Trading Post: the Reanimated Skeletal Raptor and four Stegodons, now named Attuned Ancient, Crackling Ancient, Rumbling Jungle and Thundering Primal Stegodon, with matching pets Bump, Frump, Grump and Lump. The Watcher in the Waves also appears as a Trading Post item.
• Other new mount: the Ashen Dreadglider, a skyriding mount with no source listed yet.
• Delves: three new solo Tier 11 achievements for the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan; the Fabled one awards "Fabled Vanquisher of The First Hash'ey." Our Delves guide covers tiers.
• In-Game Shop: Zothwing Darkseeker and Deepseeker.
• Other datamined data: First Aid spell ranks (skill caps from 75 to 800) appear in the build. Blizzard hasn't mentioned First Aid, so don't plan around it.

Tips for alts and returning players

• Returning players: Lorewalking starts at level 10 and recaps major story figures. It's a good refresher before the Dornogal campaign.
• Alts: Timewalking's +30% experience buff during the event (MMO Central) makes it the strongest alt window of the patch. Bound Silver is Warband-bound (Blizzard), so Talebound progress pays out for your whole account.
• Lapsed subscribers: most 12.1.7 rewards are cosmetic. If your time is short, the Markeet of the Infinite is the one item with a clear deadline. See the World of Warcraft hub.
