THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • 1–300 is all Classic cloth: Linen, Wool, Silk, Mageweave, and Runecloth, trained at any capital.
  • 300–375 runs on Netherweave. Bolts to 325, Imbued bolts to 340 at the Shattrath Mana Loom, then Netherweave Boots and Tunics, and Imbued Netherweave Tunics to finish.
  • Choose a specialization at 350 and level 60. Mooncloth suits healers, Shadoweave suits Shadow and Frost casters, and Spellfire suits Fire and Arcane casters.
  • Master Tailoring is in Hellfire Peninsula: Hama at Honor Hold (Alliance) or Dalinna at Thrallmar (Horde).

This TBC Anniversary tailoring leveling guide gives the full 1–375 route with craft counts, the cloth to buy, where the Outland patterns come from, and how to unlock each specialization. It's current for Phase 3.5, the Zul'Aman update of October 22, 2026. That patch changed no Tailoring recipes or trainers, but Blizzard's notes made Primal Nether and Nether Vortex tradeable, which lowers the cost of the high-end cloth patterns raiders ask tailors for.

Tailoring trainers and rank requirements

Rank Skill Character level Train at
Apprentice 1–75 — Any capital
Journeyman 75–150 10 Any capital
Expert 150–225 20 Any capital
Artisan 225–300 35 Any capital
Master 300–375 — Hama (Honor Hold) or Dalinna (Thrallmar), Hellfire Peninsula

The character levels are from wow-professions. On TBC realms every capital teaches up to Artisan. The city trainers are:

  • Horde: Magar (Orgrimmar), Josef Gregorian (Undercity), Tepa (Thunder Bluff), Keelen Sheets (Silvermoon).
  • Alliance: Georgio Bolero (Stormwind), Jormund Stonebrow (Ironforge), Me'lynn (Darnassus), Refik (The Exodar).

Tailoring 1-375 materials list

Range Materials (wow-professions)
1–300 204 Linen, 135 Wool, 804 Silk, 470 Mageweave, 940 Runecloth, plus one finisher: 100 Rugged Leather, 50 Gold Bar, or 25 Dream Dust (with about 250 more Runecloth)
300–375 2,976 Netherweave Cloth, 204 Arcane Dust, 10 Knothide Leather, 34 Netherweb Spider Silk

The wow-professions count assumes you keep crafting Netherweave bolts past 325 and bank them for later steps. If you stop bolts as soon as they stop giving points, plan on roughly 2,000–2,200 Netherweave instead, which is the range Icy Veins' Tailoring guide gives, with 240–480 Arcane Dust, 20 Knothide Leather and 25–40 Netherweb Spider Silk. Buy threads and dyes from the tailoring supply vendor next to the trainer as you go. wow-professions notes the vendor sells at most 20 thread or 10 dye per click, and that buying it all upfront clogs your bags.

Finisher Materials for 25 Choose it when
Runecloth Gloves 100 Bolt of Runecloth, 100 Rugged Leather, 25 Rune Thread Rugged Leather is cheap

Wizardweave Leggings 150 Bolt of Runecloth, 25 Dream Dust, 25 Rune Thread Dream Dust is cheap and you have spare Runecloth

Tailoring 300–375 route in Outland

Skill Craft About how many Materials Where to learn
300–325 Bolt of Netherweave 496 to bank, about 75 to reach 325 6 Netherweave Cloth each Master trainer
325–340 Bolt of Imbued Netherweave 102 to bank, at least 12–13 3 Bolt of Netherweave, 2 Arcane Dust each Pattern from Eiin, Shattrath; craft at the Mana Loom next to him
340–345 Netherweave Boots 5 30 Bolt of Netherweave, 10 Knothide Leather, 5 Rune Thread Master trainer
345–360 Netherweave Tunic 20 160 Bolt of Netherweave, 40 Rune Thread Pattern from Eiin, Shattrath
360–375 Imbued Netherweave Tunic or Robe 17 102 Bolt of Imbued Netherweave, 34 Netherweb Spider Silk, 17 Rune Thread Arrond, Shadowmoon Valley (Scryers neutral)

wow-professions explains why you keep making bolts past 325: you use them anyway, so it's cheaper to bank them while they still give points. If you only want the skill, stop Netherweave bolts at 325 (about 450 cloth) and make Imbued bolts at least to 335. Wowhead places the Mana Loom in Lower City at about /way 66.0, 68.0. wow-professions notes Arrond's patterns aren't bind on pickup, so an Aldor or hostile character can buy one from the Auction House or ask a friend.

Use the Arcanoweave finish if the patterns dropped

Finish Materials Pattern source
18 Arcanoweave Boots 144 Bolt of Netherweave, 288 Arcane Dust, 36 Rune Thread Sunseeker Astromages, The Mechanar (requires 360)
11 Arcanoweave Boots + 4 Arcanoweave Robe 136 Bolt of Netherweave, 256 Arcane Dust, 30 Rune Thread Robe from Pathaleon the Calculator, The Mechanar (requires 370)

These counts are from wow-professions. Use this finish when Netherweb Spider Silk is expensive and Arcane Dust is cheap. With the Arcanoweave patterns, you can stop Imbued bolts around 335–340.

Mooncloth vs Shadoweave vs Spellfire: choose your specialization

Spec Who it's for Set Specialty cloth crafted at Learn from (Lower City, Shattrath)
Mooncloth Healers Primal Mooncloth (Robe, Belt, Shoulders) Any moonwell, including Cenarion Refuge (Zangarmarsh) Nasmara Moonsong
Shadoweave Warlocks, Shadow Priests, Frost Mages Frozen Shadoweave (Shoulders, Boots, Robe) Altar of Shadows, Shadowmoon Valley Andrion Darkspinner
Spellfire Fire and Arcane Mages Spellfire (Belt, Gloves, Robe) Netherstorm Gidge Spellweaver

Requirements (Warcraft Tavern): Tailoring 350 and character level 60. Your own specialty cloth comes out doubled on its cooldown, and each spec's set needs that spec to equip. The quests (Icy Veins):

  1. Mooncloth. Take "Becoming a Mooncloth Tailor" from Nasmara Moonsong, imbue the Sample of Primal Mooncloth at the Cenarion Refuge moonwell in Zangarmarsh, and return.
  2. Shadoweave. Take "Becoming a Shadoweave Tailor" from Andrion Darkspinner, visit the Altar of Shadows in Shadowmoon Valley, and return.
  3. Spellfire. Take "Becoming a Spellfire Tailor" from Gidge Spellweaver, use the Nether-wraith Beacon at Area 52 in Netherstorm, kill the Furious Nether-wraith for its essence, and return.

Warcraft Tavern says crafting Spellcloth spawns an Angered Nether-wraith, so craft it at Area 52 and let the guards help. To change specs, the NPC who taught you unlearns it for a fee (Warcraft Tavern lists 150 gold). The set pieces stop working once you drop the spec.

Example: a Shadow Priest who plans to wear Frozen Shadoweave picks Shadoweave at 350. A Holy Priest altoholic who mostly sells cloth picks the spec whose cloth sells best on their realm, because only that cloth is doubled.

What Tailoring is worth in Phase 3.5

  • Your own set. Each specialization's set needs that spec to equip, so the spec is only worth it if you'll wear the set or sell its cloth.
  • Bags. Netherweave Bags and the bigger specialty bags sell steadily to every new 70.
  • Raid patterns. Black Temple and Hyjal drop Tailoring patterns for belts and boots that need raid materials. With Nether Vortex now tradeable and sold by G'eras for badges, more raiders can afford to have them made.
  • Spec cloth. Primal Mooncloth, Shadowcloth and Spellcloth are on cooldowns, and specialists make more of their own cloth, so it's a steady earner on a busy realm.

For the overall raid value of each profession pair, see our best professions guide, and for which cloth and bags sell, the gold farming guide.

Avoid these Tailoring mistakes

  1. Selling bolts. Nearly every Outland step uses Netherweave or Imbued bolts.
  2. Overbuying dye and thread. They clog bags. Buy per bracket.
  3. Crafting Imbued bolts away from the loom. It only works at the Mana Loom in Lower City.
  4. Picking a spec for gold alone. Each set needs its spec to equip, so pick for your character first.
  5. Forgetting Scryers standing for Arrond. Buy his patterns from the Auction House if you're Aldor.

Return, boost, or level an alt

  • Returning tailor at 375 from 2021. Check your spec. If it doesn't fit the class you play now, the switch fee is cheaper than re-leveling.
  • Boosted character with Tailoring at 1. Farm Netherweave while you quest, since humanoids in Outland drop it.
  • Alt crafter. wow-professions pairs Tailoring with Enchanting so you can disenchant what you make; our Enchanting leveling guide uses that dust. The professions leveling hub compares every other pair.
  • Netherweave Boots need Knothide Leather. If you'd rather not buy it, a skinning alt can supply the 10 you need; see the Skinning leveling guide.
  • Casters choosing a spec. Our Warlock guide shows where Frozen Shadoweave and Spellfire pieces still fit next to raid gear.

FAQ

Where is the Master Tailoring trainer in TBC Anniversary? Hama at Honor Hold for Alliance and Dalinna at Thrallmar for Horde, both in Hellfire Peninsula.

How do I level Tailoring 1–375 in TBC Anniversary? Use Classic cloth bolts and crafts to 300 at any capital. Then train Master in Hellfire Peninsula and go Netherweave bolts, Imbued bolts, Netherweave Boots, Netherweave Tunics, and Imbued Netherweave Tunics.

When can I choose a Tailoring specialization? At Tailoring 350 and character level 60, from the spec trainers in Lower City, Shattrath.

Which Tailoring specialization is best? Mooncloth for healers, Shadoweave for Warlocks, Shadow Priests and Frost Mages, and Spellfire for Fire and Arcane Mages. For most other recipes your spec doesn't matter.

Where do I craft Bolt of Imbued Netherweave? At the Mana Loom in Lower City, next to Eiin, who sells the pattern.

Where is the Imbued Netherweave Tunic pattern? Arrond in Shadowmoon Valley sells it. He requires neutral Scryers standing, and the pattern isn't bind on pickup, so it also turns up on the Auction House.
