TBC Anniversary Warrior Guide: Phase 3.5 Fury, Arms, Prot, BiS
In this guide 14 sections
THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • Fury is the raid DPS spec. Warcraft Tavern's standard build is 17/44/0 with Rampage; the 21/40/0 Death Wish hybrid wins on short fights in well-geared groups.
  • Arms brings Blood Frenzy (+4% physical damage taken) at 33/28/0.
  • Protection tanks with 17/3/41 (Deep Wounds/Impale), 8/10/43 (Improved Demoralizing Shout) or 14/2/45 (deep Protection), all from Warcraft Tavern.
  • Hit cap: 9% = 142 rating, 95 with Precision. Expertise soft cap is 26 skill (103 rating) before talents and racials (Icy Veins, Warcraft Tavern).
  • Zul'Aman BiS adds Signet of Primal Wrath, Berserker's Call and the Ancient Amani Longbow. Warglaives stay BiS for Fury.

This TBC Anniversary warrior guide covers Fury, Arms and Protection for the current content: Phase 3.5, the Zul'Aman update of October 22, 2026. Wowhead and Warcraft Tavern label their Zul'Aman gear lists "Phase 4"; on Anniversary realms that number belongs to Sunwell Plateau, which has no date yet.

Is Warrior good in TBC Anniversary?

Yes. Warriors scale with gear better than almost any melee class, bring Battle Shout, Commanding Shout and Blood Frenzy to the raid, and fill both the tank and the DPS role.

Strengths Weaknesses
Damage keeps climbing with every weapon and armor upgrade Slow and rage-starved in poor gear
Cleave and Whirlwind for AoE trash Only one Arms Warrior per raid is useful, because Blood Frenzy doesn't stack
Tank and DPS on one character with dual spec Tanks must chase Defense, hit and expertise at the same time
Arms is a mainstay of the Warrior cleave comps in arena Mortal Strike pressure lacks control against RMP

What changed for Warriors in TBC Anniversary

Ability or talent What it does
Blood Frenzy (Arms) Rend or Deep Wounds makes the target take 4% more physical damage
Rampage (Fury capstone) Stacking Attack Power buff after a crit, up to 5 stacks (Icy Veins: 50 AP per stack)
Endless Rage (Arms) 25% more rage from damage dealt
Commanding Shout (level 68) Party health buff
Intervene, Spell Reflection Protect an ally; reflect a spell
Victory Rush Free strike after a kill; huge for leveling
Thunder Clap Now usable in Defensive Stance

TBC Anniversary adds dual talent specialization, raid-wide Heroism and Bloodlust that reset after each boss encounter, and no buff or debuff limit (Warcraft Tavern). A Fury raider can keep a Protection spec for dungeons and off-tanking, and Sunder Armor and Blood Frenzy never get pushed off.

Best Warrior builds: Fury, Arms and Protection

Spec Build (Warcraft Tavern) Role Use when
Fury standard 17/44/0 Raid DPS Default; best on long fights and for gearing players
Fury Death Wish hybrid 21/40/0 Raid DPS Short fights and fast-killing, near-BiS groups
Arms raiding 33/28/0 Raid DPS + Blood Frenzy Your raid has no Arms Warrior; two-hander with Slam
Arms dual wield 33/28/0 Raid DPS + Blood Frenzy You hold two strong one-handers (Sword Spec, or Axe Spec for Orcs)
Arms Endless Rage 41/20/0 Learning build Not a raid build; no Sweeping Strikes
Protection Deep Wounds/Impale 17/3/41 Tank Threat-focused dungeon and raid tanking
Protection Improved Demo Shout 8/10/43 Tank No other Warrior covers Demoralizing Shout
Deep Protection 14/2/45 Tank Maximum survivability

Fury talents you must take: Cruelty, Unbridled Wrath, Sweeping Strikes, Flurry, Weapon Mastery, Bloodthirst, Improved Berserker Stance (+10% AP, -10% threat), Anger Management, Deep Wounds and Impale. Precision is optional once your gear covers hit. Icy Veins adds that Improved Demoralizing Shout may be needed if no other Warrior has it.

Example: a guild with three Warriors runs one Protection main tank, one Arms for Blood Frenzy, and one Fury who takes Improved Demoralizing Shout only if the tank's build lacks it.

Best Warrior race

Faction Race DPS Tank
Alliance Human Best: +5 expertise with swords and maces Best
Alliance Draenei Great: Heroic Presence +1% hit for the party Great
Alliance Dwarf — Great: Stoneform
Horde Orc Best: Axe Specialization and Blood Fury Good
Horde Troll Second: Berserking Second: Berserking, Regeneration
Horde Tauren — Best: Endurance and War Stomp

Race rankings follow Warcraft Tavern. For PvP, Undead (Will of the Forsaken) is the usual Horde pick, and Orc's Hardiness stun resistance also helps.

Warrior hit cap, expertise cap and stat priority

DPS priority (Warcraft Tavern Fury): Hit to 9% > Expertise to 6.5% > Crit > Strength > Attack Power > Armor Penetration > Haste > Hit above 9%. Icy Veins' Fury list matches and puts Agility after Strength.

Fury 9% special-attack hit Rating needed (Warcraft Tavern)
No buffs 142
With 3/3 Precision 95
Precision + Draenei Heroic Presence 79
Precision + Heroic Presence + Improved Faerie Fire 32
  • Dual-wield white hits need up to 28% hit to never miss. Warcraft Tavern says aim for about 11–13% in practice.
  • Expertise: 3.94 rating = 1 skill = 0.25% less dodge and parry. The 6.5% dodge cap is 26 skill or 103 rating (Icy Veins). Weapon Mastery gives Fury 2% (8 skill), so you need about 71 rating. A Human with swords or maces, or an Orc with axes, needs about 52 rating. Warcraft Tavern says Fury has only one viable expertise slot in the Zul'Aman phase, the waist.

Protection priority: Defense to 490 skill (crit immunity vs level-73 bosses) > Resilience > Hit 9% > Expertise 6.5% > Stamina > Armor > Block > Parry > Dodge > Crit > Strength > Agility.

Protection cap Value
Hit, no buffs 142 rating
Hit with Heroic Presence 126 rating
Hit with Heroic Presence + Improved Faerie Fire 79 rating
Expertise, dodge cap 103 rating (Defiance gives 6 skill)
Expertise, parry cap (14%) 221 rating; prevents parry-haste
Crushing blows Shield Block covers you only while active; build toward crush immunity for gaps. Our healer and tank tier list gives the 490 Defense and 102.4% uncrushable targets

TBC Warrior BiS for Zul'Aman and Black Temple

Fury (and Arms dual wield)

Warcraft Tavern's Zul'Aman-phase ideal set, cross-checked with Wowhead's "Phase 4" list (updated October 16, 2026):

Slot BiS Alternatives
Head Cursed Vision of Sargeras (Illidan) Helm of the Illidari Shatterer, Onslaught Battle-Helm (T6), Furious Gizmatic Goggles (Engineering)
Neck Choker of Serrated Blades (Hyjal trash) Choker of Endless Nightmares, The Savage's Choker (Halazzi)
Shoulders Onslaught Shoulderblades (Shahraz) Swiftsteel Shoulders (Blacksmithing), Shoulderpads of the Stranger
Back Shadowmoon Destroyer's Drape (Teron) Dory's Embrace (G'eras), Cloak of Darkness (Leatherworking)
Chest Onslaught Breastplate (Illidan) Midnight Chestguard, Bloodstained Elven Battlevest (Akil'zon)
Wrists Deadly Cuffs (Rage Winterchill) Insidious Bands, Master Assassin Wristwraps (G'eras)
Hands Grips of Silent Justice (Shade of Akama) Onslaught Gauntlets, Gauntlets of Martial Perfection
Waist Belt of One-Hundred Deaths (Vashj) Don Alejandro's Money Belt, Bladeangel's Money Belt (Nalorakk), Red Belt of Battle

Trinkets Dragonspine Trophy + Madness of the Betrayer Berserker's Call (Zul'jin), Tsunami Talisman, Bloodlust Brooch (G'eras)
Main and off hand Warglaive of Azzinoth x2 Vengeful Gladiator's Slicer, Cleaver or Pummeler; Dragonstrike; Rage (ZA timed chest); Akil'zon's Talonblade off hand
Ranged Ancient Amani Longbow (Zul'jin) Barrel-Blade Longrifle (Doomwalker)

Warcraft Tavern notes that Vengeful Gladiator weapons "directly compete with the best raid weapons, except for the Warglaives," and that epic gems make extra sockets worth more now that Magtheridon's Black Sack and Brilliant Glass can contain them.

Arms two-hander: Warcraft Tavern's Arms list uses Cataclysm's Edge (Archimonde) or Soul Cleaver, with the same armor.

Tier 6: Warcraft Tavern says get the Onslaught 2-piece if you can, because it's strong in execute phases, but skipping the full set for raw stats is fine. Wowhead says the 4-piece favors Arms over Fury. See our Tier 6 sets guide.

Protection

Slot Warcraft Tavern Zul'Aman-phase BiS
Head Faceplate of the Impenetrable (Illidan); Battleworn Tuskguard (Hex Lord) as ZA catch-up
Shoulders Onslaught Shoulderguards
Chest Vengeful Gladiator's Plate Chestpiece
Wrists Bracers of the Ancient Phalanx
Hands Gauntlets of Enforcement
Waist Belt of One-Hundred Deaths (threat and expertise)
Legs Onslaught Legguards
Feet Vindicator's Plate Greaves

Rings Band of the Eternal Defender + Signet of Primal Wrath
Trinkets Darkmoon Card: Vengeance + Shadowmoon Insignia (swap per fight)
Weapon / Shield The Brutalizer / Bulwark of Azzinoth
Ranged Legionkiller

Warcraft Tavern says Zul'Aman tank gear is a catch-up tier "as strong as Phase 2 and Phase 3 items," and that tanks mix DPS and tank pieces to cover hit and expertise.

Warrior gems, enchants and consumables

Fury enchants from Warcraft Tavern's Fury gems, enchants and consumables page: Glyph of Ferocity (head), Greater Inscription of Vengeance or of the Blade (shoulders), Greater Agility or Subtlety (cloak, depending on your threat), Exceptional Stats (chest), Brawn or Assault (wrists), Major Strength (gloves), Nethercobra Leg Armor, Cat's Swiftness or Dexterity (boots), Enchant Ring – Stats (Enchanters only), and Executioner or Mongoose on the main hand, Mongoose on the off hand. The Executioner formula can drop from any Zul'Aman boss.

Warrior rotations: Fury, Arms and Protection

Fury single target (Warcraft Tavern):

  1. Pre-pull: Bloodrage, then Battle or Commanding Shout as assigned. Charge from Battle Stance, or open in Berserker Stance.
  2. Activate Rampage after your first crit and keep 5 stacks.
  3. Bloodthirst on cooldown, then Whirlwind on cooldown.
  4. Heroic Strike only to dump spare rage. Never let it delay Bloodthirst or Whirlwind.
  5. Below 20%, Execute replaces Heroic Strike.
  6. Death Wish on cooldown with Recklessness, potions and trinkets.

Fury AoE: Sweeping Strikes on cooldown, Whirlwind and Bloodthirst on cooldown, and Cleave to dump rage.

Arms single target: Sunder Armor if nobody else is, Slam at the end of every swing with a two-hander, Mortal Strike and Whirlwind on cooldown, and Heroic Strike above 80–90 rage. In execute range, Execute replaces Mortal Strike.

Protection: on the pull, Charge, swap to Defensive Stance, Bloodrage, Shield Block, Demoralizing Shout and Thunder Clap, and stack 5 Sunders with Devastate if nobody else applies armor reduction. Then Shield Block on cooldown, Shield Slam on cooldown, Revenge whenever it lights up, Devastate when the rest are on cooldown, and Heroic Strike only when you'll still have rage for Shield Block and Shield Slam. Save Bloodrage for the boss pull.

Example: on Zul'jin, a Death Wish Fury pairs Death Wish, Recklessness and a Haste Potion with Heroism at the pull, then uses Death Wish again on cooldown in the final phase.

Warrior leveling and PvP

Leveling: Warriors level fastest with Victory Rush and good weapons. Use our 1–70 leveling guide for zone routes, and dual spec so you can tank dungeon groups as Protection and quest as Arms or Fury.

PvP:

  • Arms is the arena spec. It's about three quarters of 3v3 Warriors and sits in B tier in our PvP tier list: a big share of the ladder, but below the ladder average in both regions.
  • Partners: Arms Warrior with a Resto Druid is the pairing Warcraft Tavern calls "by far the strongest" in 2v2. In 3v3, the Warrior cleaves pair Arms with a Resto Shaman or Frost Mage and a Disc Priest or Resto Druid. Our PvP comps and builds guide lists the stun and Poleaxe builds.
  • Gear: Vengeful Gladiator weapons compete with raid weapons for Arms, and Season 1 pieces are on the Honor vendors for a fast start.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Spamming Heroic Strike and missing Bloodthirst or Whirlwind on cooldown.
  • Two Arms Warriors in one raid group: Blood Frenzy doesn't stack.
  • Gearing a tank for avoidance and ignoring expertise, which leads to parry-haste wipes.
  • Stopping at 9% hit as Fury when your white hits still miss often.

Return, boost, or gear an alt

  • Returning: set Dual Spec to Fury and Protection, check hit and expertise against the tables above, and spend banked Badges of Justice at G'eras.
  • Fresh or boosted 70: heroics and Karazhan, then Zul'Aman. Our fresh 70 catch-up guide gives the order, and the Zul'Aman loot guide shows who else wants the Signet and Berserker's Call.
  • Alt: Black Temple and Hyjal no longer need attunement, so an alt Warrior can join them as soon as its gear allows. Tank alts should read the Hydross and Void Reaver sections of our Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep guides.

Independent sellers' gearing runs are listed on the TBC Anniversary gearing page, and the TBC Anniversary hub links our other class guides. Blizzard's End User License Agreement restricts account sharing and paid in-game services, and no marketplace listing amounts to publisher permission.
