TBC Anniversary DPS Tier List: Phase 3.5 Zul'Aman, All 20 Specs
TBC Anniversary DPS tier list for Phase 3.5: all 20 specs scored on five stated criteria for Zul'Aman and Black Temple, plus 10-player seats and races.

In this guide 17 sections
Quick summary
- S tier for Phase 3.5: Destruction Warlock, Beast Mastery Hunter and Fury Warrior. They score 10 or more out of 12 on our five criteria: a top single-target kit, a resource that never runs dry, and room for two in a 10-player group.
- A tier: Arcane Mage, Combat Rogue, Affliction and Demonology Warlock, Fire Mage. Arcane and Combat hit as hard as S tier, but Arcane runs short on mana and a raid wants only one Improved Expose Armor Rogue.
- Most other specs land in B, and that's fine. Retribution, Shadow, Balance, Arms and Survival each bring a raid-wide debuff, so a raid wants exactly one of each.
- Zul'Aman is a 10-player raid with room for 5–6 DPS (Blizzard). Seats go to whoever fills a missing buff or debuff, then to the strongest damage.
This TBC Anniversary DPS tier list ranks all 20 damage specs for Phase 3.5: Zul'Aman, Black Temple and Mount Hyjal, live since October 22, 2026. It doesn't copy any other site's tier letters. Every spec is scored on five written criteria taken from its own toolkit, and the tier follows from the score. Tanks and healers are ranked the same way in our healer and tank tier list, and the class tier list combines both into one ranking per class.
How we rank TBC Anniversary DPS specs
Each spec was scored on October 29, 2026 against five criteria. The facts behind them are spell and talent tooltips (Wowhead's TBC database and the Warcraft Wiki) and the Phase 3.5 rules in Blizzard's Zul'Aman announcement.
| # | Criterion | 2 points | 1 point | 0 points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Single-target damage (counts double) | The spec takes its class's main damage talents and has nothing else to maintain | Solid, but it spends talents or global cooldowns on a raid debuff, a pet, DoT upkeep or a second role | Its class's best damage talents sit in another tree |
| 2 | Sustain on a long fight | Rage, Energy, Life Tap or Aspect of the Viper, or it refills its party (Vampiric Touch) | A self-refill on a cooldown (Evocation, Shamanistic Rage, Innervate, Judgement of Wisdom, Water Shield) | Needs outside mana to finish |
| 3 | What it gives the raid | A raid-wide debuff that raises damage for several classes | A party buff, or a debuff that mostly helps its own school | Nothing beyond its class's basic buffs |
| 4 | AoE for trash, Hyjal waves and Jan'alai | Strong repeatable AoE | Some AoE or cleave | Little or none |
| 5 | Seats in a 10-player group | A group gladly takes two | A second copy adds damage but repeats its aura | A group wants exactly one, because its value is a one-per-raid debuff |
Tiers (out of 12): S = 10–12, A = 8–9, B = 6–7, C = 4–5, D = 0–3.
The score measures how much a spec helps a Phase 3.5 raid, not whether it can clear it. Every spec can. A well-played B-tier spec beats a careless S-tier one, and gear and consumables move real damage more than any letter.
TBC Anniversary DPS tier list (all 20 specs)
| Spec | Damage (×2) | Sustain | Raid gift | AoE | Seats | Score | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Destruction Warlock | 4 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 11 | S |
| Beast Mastery Hunter | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 10 | S |
| Fury Warrior | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 10 | S |
| Arcane Mage | 4 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 9 | A |
| Combat Rogue | 4 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 9 | A |
| Affliction Warlock | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 8 | A |
| Demonology Warlock | 2 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 8 | A |
| Fire Mage | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 8 | A |
| Survival Hunter | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 7 | B |
| Arms Warrior | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 7 | B |
| Enhancement Shaman | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 7 | B |
| Elemental Shaman | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 7 | B |
| Feral (Cat) Druid | 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 7 | B |
| Balance Druid | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 7 | B |
| Marksmanship Hunter | 0 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 6 | B |
| Shadow Priest | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 6 | B |
| Frost Mage | 0 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 6 | B |
| Assassination Rogue | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 6 | B |
| Retribution Paladin | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 6 | B |
| Subtlety Rogue | 0 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 4 | C |
Example. Retribution Paladin and Frost Mage both score 6, but for opposite reasons. Ret brings Improved Seal of the Crusader, which raises everyone's critical strike chance on the boss, so every raid saves it one seat. Frost does less damage, but nothing stops a group from taking it when no better Mage applies.
Why S tier is S tier
Destruction Warlock (11)
- Damage: the raid build puts its talents into Shadow Bolt (Ruin, Shadow and Flame) and sacrifices its demon for a damage bonus, so the rotation is a curse, Immolate and Shadow Bolt spam. Our Warlock guide has the build.
- Sustain: Life Tap turns health into mana, so a Warlock never stops casting on a 10-minute Black Temple fight.
- Raid gift: Improved Shadow Bolt raises Shadow damage on the target, which mostly helps other Warlocks and Shadow Priests. Curses, Soulstones, Healthstones and summons come with any Warlock.
- AoE and seats: Seed of Corruption clears Hyjal waves and Jan'alai's hatchlings, and a second Warlock adds full damage. It's the easiest DPS invite in the game.
Beast Mastery Hunter (10)
- Damage: Bestial Wrath and The Beast Within turn the pet and Hunter loose together, on a Steady Shot rotation that the deep Beast Mastery talents all improve.
- Sustain: Aspect of the Viper restores mana based on Intellect, so a Hunter can recover mid-fight without outside help (Warcraft Wiki).
- Raid gift: Ferocious Inspiration raises the party's damage by 3% when the pet crits, and each Beast Mastery Hunter's copy stacks (see our Hunter guide). Every Hunter also has Misdirection to help tanks on pulls.
- AoE: Multi-Shot and Volley are serviceable, not great.
Fury Warrior (10)
- Damage: dual wield, Flurry and the 41-point Rampage. Rage comes from dealing and taking damage, so there's no mana bar to manage.
- Raid gift: Battle Shout or Commanding Shout for its party. In a 10-player group, two Warriors in two parties each cover their own party.
- AoE: Whirlwind and Cleave handle trash packs.
- Watch out: Fury gains a lot from Windfury Totem, so it wants a Shaman in its party. See our Warrior guide.
Why A tier misses S
| Spec | Score | What holds it back | What it does best |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arcane Mage | 9 | Mana: Evocation and mana gems run out on long fights, and it brings no raid debuff | The best burst for short fights and the timed Akil'zon kill |
| Combat Rogue | 9 | A raid wants only one Improved Expose Armor Rogue | Top-end damage on Energy, Blade Flurry cleave |
| Affliction Warlock | 8 | DoT upkeep costs damage, and its raid value (Malediction) is one per raid | Curse of the Elements at 13%: more Arcane, Fire, Frost and Shadow damage taken |
| Demonology Warlock | 8 | Its talents feed the Felguard rather than Shadow Bolt, and it brings nothing unique | Stacks freely and keeps Seed of Corruption for AoE |
| Fire Mage | 8 | Global cooldowns go into keeping 5 stacks of Improved Scorch up | +15% Fire damage taken for every Fire Mage, plus Flamestrike, Blast Wave and Dragon's Breath |
Improved Scorch adds 3% Fire damage taken per stack, up to 5 stacks, as our Mage guide explains. Two Fire Mages share the stacks, which is why Fire stacks well.
B and C tier: who earns a guaranteed seat
Most B-tier specs aren't weak. They give up some damage to bring something no one else can.
| Spec | Score | Reason to bring one | Why it isn't higher |
|---|---|---|---|
| Survival Hunter | 7 | Expose Weakness raises attack power against the target for the whole raid | Lower damage than Beast Mastery, and one is enough |
| Arms Warrior | 7 | Blood Frenzy: +4% physical damage taken | Lower damage than Fury, and one is enough |
| Enhancement Shaman | 7 | Windfury Totem, Unleashed Rage and Bloodlust for a melee party | Mana is short without Shamanistic Rage |
| Elemental Shaman | 7 | Totem of Wrath: +3% spell hit and crit for its party | Mana-hungry on long fights |
| Feral (Cat) Druid | 7 | Leader of the Pack (+5% crit for the party), Mangle for bleeds, can off-tank in Bear Form | No AoE in Cat Form |
| Balance Druid | 7 | Improved Faerie Fire: +3% melee and ranged hit chance against the target (Warcraft Wiki), Moonkin Aura, Innervate, Rebirth | Mana and damage both trail the pure casters |
| Marksmanship Hunter | 6 | Trueshot Aura for its party | The Hunter's best damage talents are in Beast Mastery |
| Shadow Priest | 6 | Misery (+5% spell damage taken), Shadow Weaving, Vampiric Touch mana for the party | No real AoE, and a raid needs only one |
| Frost Mage | 6 | Winter's Chill for Frost spells, safe control | The Mage's best damage talents are in Arcane and Fire |
| Assassination Rogue | 6 | Improved Expose Armor | Needs daggers and does less than Combat |
| Retribution Paladin | 6 | Improved Seal of the Crusader (+3% crit chance on the target) and Improved Sanctity Aura | Mana from Judgement of Wisdom only, and a raid wants one |
| Subtlety Rogue (C) | 4 | Hemorrhage | Built for arena. It's S tier in our PvP tier list, not in raids |
Example. A guild has three Hunters. One plays Survival for Expose Weakness and the other two play Beast Mastery in the same party so Ferocious Inspiration stacks. A fourth Hunter applying will find it harder to get a seat than a Shadow Priest, even though Beast Mastery scores higher.
Do the slot math for a 10-player Zul'Aman group
A typical Zul'Aman group is 2 tanks, 2–3 healers and 5–6 DPS, split into two parties of five. In a 25-player raid there's room for every buff. In a 10-player raid the DPS seats fill fast. This is a planning aid, not a fixed comp.
| What the group wants | Who provides it | DPS seats it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodlust or Heroism | Any Shaman. A Restoration Shaman healer usually covers it | 0 if a Resto Shaman heals |
| Improved Seal of the Crusader | Retribution Paladin | 1 |
| Armor reduction for physical DPS | Combat or Assassination Rogue (Improved Expose Armor), or Sunder Armor from a Warrior tank | 0–1 |
| Mana for casters | Shadow Priest (Vampiric Touch) | 1 |
| Melee and ranged hit | Balance Druid, or a Restoration Druid who takes Improved Faerie Fire | 0–1 |
| Pure damage | Destruction Warlock, Beast Mastery Hunter, Fury Warrior, Arcane Mage | Whatever is left |
With six DPS seats, a group that takes a Ret Paladin, a Rogue and a Shadow Priest has three seats left for S-tier damage. That's why one-seat specs compete hardest in Zul'Aman. A second Ret Paladin or second Rogue rarely helps a 10-player group.
Example. Your guild runs two Zul'Aman groups on Tuesday. One has a Combat Rogue, the other doesn't. A second Rogue should ask for the group without one. A Destruction Warlock can join either.
Anniversary realms have no buff or debuff limit (Warcraft Tavern), so a group never has to drop one debuff to make room for another.
Match DPS specs to each Zul'Aman boss
The boss notes come from our Zul'Aman guide. The "who shines" column follows from each spec's toolkit.
| Boss | Mechanic that matters for DPS | Who shines | Who struggles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Akil'zon (Eagle) | Spread for Static Disruption, stack for Electrical Storm, kill Soaring Eagles | Ranged, who kill eagles more easily | Melee, who take more Static Disruption damage |
| Nalorakk (Bear) | Silences in bear form, so casters save cooldowns for troll form | Physical DPS, who keep attacking through silences | Casters during bear form |
| Jan'alai (Dragonhawk) | Kill the marked Hatcher, then AoE hatchlings once the off-tank has threat | Warlocks (Seed of Corruption) and Mages | Pure single-target specs on hatchling waves |
| Halazzi (Lynx) | Melee switch to Corrupted Lightning Totems when they spawn | Melee who switch fast | Anyone who tunnels the boss |
| Hex Lord Malacrass | Four adds, then interrupts, Spellsteal and Purge on the boss | Rogues, Warriors and Shamans on interrupts, Mages for Spellsteal | Groups that skip crowd control |
| Zul'jin | Whirlwind in troll phase, Creeping Paralysis in bear phase, raid bleeds in lynx phase | Rogues (Cloak of Shadows on paralysis), anyone with self-sustain | Melee who don't step out of Whirlwind |
For the timed hostage run, killing Akil'zon adds 10 minutes and Nalorakk adds 15, for 45 minutes in total. Burst on those two bosses matters more than sustained damage, which is where Arcane Mage and Bloodlust earn their keep. Items worth chasing are in our Zul'Aman loot guide.
Melee or ranged DPS in TBC Anniversary?
Neither wins outright. Each has fights that favor it.
- Ranged have an easier time on Akil'zon, Hyjal waves and any fight where melee must move out.
- Melee keep attacking through Nalorakk's silences.
- Casters depend on party buffs (Totem of Wrath, Moonkin Aura, Vampiric Touch). Physical DPS depend on Windfury Totem, Leader of the Pack and armor debuffs.
If you can't decide, pick from S tier: one caster (Destruction), one ranged physical (Beast Mastery) and one melee (Fury).
Easiest and hardest DPS specs to play
This is a decision aid, not part of the score.
| Spec | Difficulty | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Destruction Warlock | Easy | Curse, Immolate, then Shadow Bolt. Life Tap handles mana |
| Beast Mastery Hunter | Easy to start, hard to perfect | The pet holds its own, but weaving Steady Shot between auto shots takes practice |
| Fury Warrior | Medium | Simple priority, but rage depends on gear and on standing in Windfury Totem's range |
| Arcane Mage | Medium | Big burst, but you must plan mana around Evocation and gems |
| Enhancement Shaman | Hard | Totem twisting Windfury and Grace of Air (see our Shaman guide) |
| Feral (Cat) Druid | Hard | Powershifting out of and back into Cat Form for Energy (see our Druid guide) |
| Retribution Paladin | Hard | Seal timing around swings, plus keeping Judgement of the Crusader up |
Best DPS race in TBC Anniversary
Race matters less than spec and gear, but a few racials are worth knowing when you roll or boost a new DPS character.
| Faction | Race | Why DPS players pick it |
|---|---|---|
| Horde | Orc | Blood Fury (an attack power cooldown) and axe specialization; the usual pick for Hunters, Warriors and Warlocks |
| Horde | Troll | Berserking (attack and casting speed cooldown) and bow specialization for Hunters |
| Horde | Blood Elf | Arcane Torrent (silence plus mana or energy back), useful for casters and Rogues |
| Alliance | Draenei | Heroic Presence gives you and your party +1% hit, which helps every DPS reach the hit cap sooner |
| Alliance | Human | Sword and mace specialization for Rogues, Warriors and Retribution Paladins |
| Alliance | Gnome | +5% Intellect, a small edge for Mages and Warlocks |
Draenei and Blood Elves can use the Level 58 boost, so race choice doesn't lock you out of a fast start. The per-class guides cover race in more depth.
Gear and prepare once you've picked
A tier only shows potential. Your output in Zul'Aman depends on gear, gems and consumables.
- Hit the hit cap your spec needs. Draenei, Totem of Wrath and Improved Faerie Fire all change how much you need. The class guides have the numbers.
- Gem and enchant pieces you'll keep. Our gems and enchants guide covers the options.
- Check your Tier 6 bonuses. Our Tier 6 guide lists each token and set bonus.
- Buy badge gear first if you're new to 70. The new badge gear guide lists what G'eras sells now.
- Plan for mana as a caster. Mages and Shamans should ask for Innervate and stay in a party with a Shadow Priest.
- Set up boss timers. A boss mod and a few encounter WeakAuras save more damage than any talent swap; see the best TBC Anniversary addons.
Builds, rotations and BiS lists for the other DPS classes are in the Rogue, Paladin and Priest guides.
Read the phase names correctly
Sites use different names for the same update, which matters when you compare guides.
| Name you'll see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Phase 3 | Black Temple and Mount Hyjal, live since August 27, 2026 |
| Phase 3.5 / "The Gods of Zul'Aman" | Zul'Aman plus catch-up changes, live since October 22 |
| "Phase 4" on some guide sites and log filters | Usually the same Zul'Aman update |
| Phase 4, "Fury of the Sunwell" | Sunwell Plateau and the Isle of Quel'Danas, with no date yet |
Boosted, returning and alt players
- New character or boost. Pick from S or A tier unless you already know your guild's gaps. A spec that fills an empty debuff seat gets invited faster than a stronger spec the raid already has.
- Dual spec. Anniversary realms have dual spec, so a Shaman or Druid can keep a DPS spec and a healing or tanking spec.
- Fresh 70 alts. Zul'Aman has no attunement, and from October 22 Black Temple and Hyjal don't either. Older raid bosses now drop Badges of Justice too. The fresh 70 catch-up guide and the Gruul and Magtheridon guide show the quickest route into Tier 6.
- Returning players. Bloodlust and Heroism now reset when a boss encounter ends, on a kill or a wipe (Warcraft Tavern), so Shamans can use them on every boss.

FAQ
What is the best DPS in TBC Anniversary right now? Destruction Warlock, Beast Mastery Hunter and Fury Warrior, the three S-tier specs in this list. They combine top single-target damage, a resource that never runs out and room for two in a Zul'Aman group.
What is the best DPS for Zul'Aman? A Destruction Warlock is the safest seat, because it brings full damage, Seed of Corruption for Jan'alai and no one-per-raid duty. Arcane Mage's burst helps most on the timed Akil'zon and Nalorakk kills.
What is the easiest DPS class in TBC Anniversary? Destruction Warlock. Its rotation is a curse, Immolate and Shadow Bolt, and Life Tap handles mana. Beast Mastery Hunter is easy to start but takes practice to master.
Is melee or ranged DPS better in TBC Anniversary? Neither wins outright. Ranged have it easier on Akil'zon and Hyjal, melee keep attacking through Nalorakk's silences, and both rely on their party's buffs.
Why isn't Combat Rogue S tier when it does so much damage? Its damage scores full marks, but a raid needs only one Improved Expose Armor Rogue, so it loses the seat points. A second Rogue competes with S-tier specs for a spot.
When will the TBC Anniversary DPS tier list change? When Sunwell Plateau (Phase 4) arrives or Blizzard tunes a class. Blizzard hasn't announced a Sunwell date yet.
