TBC Anniversary shaman guide for Phase 3.5: Elemental, Enhancement and Resto builds, hit caps, totems, Zul'Aman BiS, gems, consumables and PvP.

In this guide 13 sections
Quick summary
- Elemental 41/0/20 (Warcraft Tavern standard). Cap spell hit at 16%: 202 rating for most races, 89 with Nature's Guidance and Elemental Precision, 51 with Totem of Wrath as well.
- Enhancement 3/44/14 (Enhancement/Restoration) or 17/44/0 (Enhancement/Elemental). Talents reach the 9% hit soft cap. Expertise comes first, up to 26 (104 rating).
- Restoration 0/5/56 (Deep Resto). Use Earth Shield on the tank, Chain Heal for two or more targets, and Lesser Healing Wave for emergencies. Restoration has no stat caps.
- Zul'Aman upgrades: Brooch of Nature's Mercy, Hex Shrunken Head and Footpads of Madness (Elemental), Signet of Primal Wrath (Enhancement), and Two-Toed Sandals (Resto).
- Best races: Troll for Elemental, Orc for Enhancement, Draenei for Resto (Warcraft Tavern).
This TBC Anniversary shaman guide covers all three specs for the current content, Phase 3.5: the Zul'Aman update of October 22, 2026, with Black Temple and Hyjal open without attunement. Warcraft Tavern and Wowhead label their Zul'Aman gear lists "Phase 4"; the Sunwell Plateau phase has no Anniversary date yet.
Is Shaman good in TBC Anniversary?
Yes, and raids want more than one. Every Shaman brings Bloodlust or Heroism plus a set of totems that buff a whole group. Warcraft Tavern's healer rankings note that most 25-player raids bring at least two Restoration Shamans among five healers, and our healer and tank tier list scores Resto Shaman on the same raid-healing and buff criteria.
| Spec | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|
| Elemental | Burst through Elemental Mastery; Totem of Wrath gives the group spell hit and crit; works with little gear | Hard-casting, so low mobility; mana-hungry on long fights; few defensive cooldowns (Warcraft Tavern) |
| Enhancement | Windfury and Strength of Earth for a melee group; strong burst with Stormstrike | Gear-hungry: two weapons plus expertise and hit |
| Restoration | Chain Heal for stacked raids; Earth Shield; Mana Tide for the group | Weak single-target throughput next to Paladins and Priests |
What changed for Shamans in TBC Anniversary
- Bloodlust and Heroism hit the whole raid, not just your party, and the Sated or Exhaustion debuff resets when a boss encounter ends (Warcraft Tavern, quoting Blizzard's notes). Raids no longer need one Shaman per group for lust, but every boss pull gets one.
- No buff or debuff limit (Warcraft Tavern), so Flame Shock and Stormstrike's debuff are never pushed off.
- Dual talent specialization lets one Shaman keep Restoration for raids and Elemental or Enhancement for farming or arena.
- Phase 3.5 (October 22, 2026): Zul'Aman, badges from older raid bosses, and epic gems in Magtheridon's Black Sack and Brilliant Glass (Blizzard).
Best Shaman builds for each spec
| Spec | Build (Warcraft Tavern) | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Elemental | 41/0/20 Standard | Default raid build |
| Elemental | 41/0/20 Elemental Warding | Extra defense instead of improved fire totems for trash and adds |
| Enhancement | 3/44/14 Enhancement/Restoration | Default. Restoration gives Totemic Mastery and Nature's Guidance |
| Enhancement | 17/44/0 Enhancement/Elemental | Alternative with Elemental points |
| Restoration | 0/5/56 Deep Restoration | Default raid healer |
| Restoration | 8/5/48 Elemental Warding | Fire, Frost or Nature damage fights in a ranged or healer group (not with physical DPS outside progression) |
| Restoration | 0/12/49 Enhancing Totems | Dips into Enhancement for improved totem buffs |
Shaman hit cap and stat priority
| Spec | Priority (Warcraft Tavern) |
|---|---|
| Elemental | Spell Hit to 16% > Spell Haste > Spell Damage > Spell Crit > Intellect > MP5 > Stamina > Spirit |
| Enhancement | Expertise > Strength > Hit > Haste > Crit > Agility > Attack Power > Armor Penetration > Intellect |
| Restoration | Healing Power > MP5 > Intellect > Spell Haste > Spell Crit > Stamina > Spirit |
Elemental spell hit for the 16% cap (Warcraft Tavern; 12.62 rating = 1%):
| Setup | Draenei | Other races |
|---|---|---|
| No talents or buffs | 190 | 202 |
| 3/3 Nature's Guidance + 3/3 Elemental Precision | 76 | 89 |
| Both talents + Totem of Wrath | 38 | 51 |
Against non-bosses the cap falls to 5% at most, so you can skip Totem of Wrath on trash. At 10% haste you can fit four Lightning Bolts between Chain Lightning casts.
Enhancement:
- 26 Expertise = 6.5% = 104 Expertise Rating (3.94 rating per point).
- The 9% hit soft cap comes from talents alone: Dual Wield Specialization and Nature's Guidance.
- 15.77 hit rating = 1%.
Restoration: no caps. The 1-second global cooldown needs 788.5 haste rating, which isn't reachable with gear alone.

Orcs use axes because of their axe expertise bonus. For the Skyshatter tier 6 tokens, see our Tier 6 guide. Brooch of Nature's Mercy and Hex Shrunken Head are wanted by many caster specs, so read the Zul'Aman loot guide before loot rules are set. Tier 5 still fills gaps for fresh Shamans: Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep drop the tokens, and our SSC guide covers that raid.

Shaman rotation and totems for each spec
Elemental rotation (Warcraft Tavern)
- Drop your totems: Totem of Wrath, Wrath of Air, Mana Spring, Stoneskin. Keep Water Shield up.
- Flame Shock if you need to move. Earth Shock if Flame Shock is on cooldown or the target is almost dead.
- Chain Lightning when mana allows or with Elemental Mastery.
- Lightning Bolt, three or four between Chain Lightnings depending on haste.
On fights over five minutes, skip Chain Lightning and spam Lightning Bolt to save mana.
AoE: Fire Nova Totem > Magma Totem > Chain Lightning > Lightning Bolt.
Enhancement rotation and totem twisting
- Before the pull: Windfury Weapon on both weapons. Totems: Windfury, Strength of Earth, Searing, Mana Spring.
- Stagger your weapon swings (Warcraft Tavern's weapon sync section explains how).
- Stormstrike on cooldown.
- Keep Flame Shock up.
- Fire Nova Totem on cooldown, then Searing Totem as soon as Fire Nova goes off.
- Earth Shock.
AoE: Fire Nova Totem > Magma Totem > Flame Shock > Stormstrike > Earth Shock.
Totem twisting: in a melee group, many Enhancement Shamans drop Windfury Totem and then Grace of Air Totem, because the Windfury buff stays on party weapons for a short time after the totem is replaced. Refresh Windfury before the buff fades. It costs mana and global cooldowns, so do it only when your own damage holds up.
Restoration healing priority
- Before the pull: Water Shield, and Earth Shield on the tank. You can spam rank 1 Healing Wave on the tank to proc Ancestral Healing.
- Lesser Healing Wave on anyone who might die before a bigger heal lands.
- Keep Earth Shield up on the tank.
- Chain Heal when two or more targets need healing.
- Healing Wave for single-target damage.
- Rank 1 Healing Wave on the tank to proc Ancestral Healing and Healing Way.
Pick totems for your group: caster and healer groups or physical DPS groups.
Best Shaman race and professions
| Spec | Ranking (Warcraft Tavern) | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Elemental | Troll > Draenei > Orc > Tauren | Troll: DPS cooldown and Beast damage |
| Enhancement | Orc > Troll > Tauren > Draenei | Orc: DPS cooldown and axe expertise |
| Restoration | Draenei > Troll > Orc > Tauren | Draenei: party spell hit and a free HoT |
Professions: compare all classes in our best professions guide. Enhancement's Swiftstrike Shoulders are Leatherworking BoP and Resto's Golden Spellthread is from Tailoring.
Shaman in PvP and arena
- Restoration is the Shaman's arena spec. It scores A tier in 3v3 and leads 5v5 in our PvP tier list, where Bloodlust and Mana Tide matter most.
- Elemental burst fits caster cleaves, and Elemental with two Fire Mages is the classic "cheese" comp. Enhancement fits Warrior and Ret Paladin melee teams.
- The PvP comps and builds guide lists the PvP talent build for each Shaman spec and its best partners.
Avoid these mistakes
- Elemental players stacking hit past 51 rating while running Totem of Wrath and both talents.
- Enhancement players buying hit before 26 expertise.
- Restoration players casting Chain Heal on a single target instead of Healing Wave.
- Dropping Totem of Wrath for trash when 5% hit is enough there.
Return, boost, or gear an alt
- Returning: fill the Zul'Aman slots first (Brooch, Hex Shrunken Head, Signet of Primal Wrath, Two-Toed Sandals).
- Fresh or boosted 70: heroics and Karazhan first. Our fresh 70 catch-up guide gives the order.
- Planning ahead: the Sunwell Plateau guide covers what the next raid will ask of each role once Blizzard dates it.
Gearing services from independent sellers are listed on the TBC Anniversary gearing page, and the rest of our guides sit on the TBC Anniversary hub. Blizzard's End User License Agreement restricts account sharing and paid in-game services, and a marketplace listing isn't publisher permission.
