MapleStory Classic Hunter Guide: Bow Build, Arrow Bomb, Training
MapleStory Classic Hunter guide: Arrow Bomb vs Bow Mastery first, three SP builds compared, Final Attack explained, crafted bows and arrows.

In this guide 14 sections
Quick summary
- The guides disagree on what to max first at Lv 30. Planet-helper says Arrow Bomb, maxed by Lv 44. Mscw-guidebook says Bow Mastery, which raises average damage by about 52% on its own.
- Arrow Bomb hits up to 6 monsters at 130% with a 60% chance to stun for 2 seconds (planet-helper, mscw-guidebook). It's your only multi-target attack before third job.
- The sources describe Final Attack differently. Planet-helper says it's a toggle that loses damage in every case. Mscw-guidebook says you cast it by hand when it unlocks, for up to 360% on one target.
- Every bow from Lv 25 to 50 is a Woodcrafting recipe, up to the Lv 40 Vaulter 2000 at Woodcrafting 8; the Lv 50 Olympus is a Woodcrafting 10 recipe, and crafting stops at Lv 8 at launch. Start Woodcrafting early.
- Put STR up to your bow's requirement and everything else into DEX. Mscw-guidebook found 10 DEX adds 3.4% damage, against 1.4% for 10 STR.
Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.
Decide whether Hunter fits you
Mscw-guidebook describes the Hunter as "steady ranged damage." The loop is to "jump back, make space, shoot," because a monster in your face only gets a bow swing. It warns that Hunters can't pull big packs well, and that if Woodcrafting "sounds like a chore, getting an Olympus at level 50 will be a hassle."
Example: You enjoy crafting and want a ranged attacker that can clear a crowded subway map. Hunter fits. If you'd rather not craft, compare the other jobs in our job advancement guide.
Build first job
First job gives 61 SP. Maxing all six skills costs 105. Mscw-guidebook notes that Classic World removed The Blessing of Amazon and moved Power Knockback into first job.
| Skill | Arrow Blow build (recommended) | Double Shot build | Notes (mscw-guidebook) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrow Blow | 20 | 1 | 240% single arrow at max |
| Double Shot | 0 | 20 | Two arrows at 120%, up to 2 targets within 300 range (NiaMeowDB), uses twice the arrows |
| Critical Shot | 15 | 15 | +20% crit rate, +15% crit damage; about +7.7% average damage |
| Focus | 20 | 20 | +20 accuracy, +25 avoid, 300 seconds; needs Eye of Amazon 3 |
| The Eye of Amazon | 6 | 5 | +120 range at max |
| Power Knockback | 0 | 0 | Mscw: averages 137 vs Arrow Blow's 417 at Lv 30 |
Mscw-guidebook says Arrow Blow saves 1,800 arrows and 3,600 MP an hour over Double Shot. Max Focus before you advance. Without it, a fresh Lv 30 hits Jr. Wraiths only about 37% of the time. With it maxed, that rises to about 87%.
Advance to Hunter at Lv 30
Planet-helper lists the chain. Talk to Athena Pierce in Henesys, then the Bowman Job Instructor on The Road to the Dungeon. Collect 30 Dark Marbles (Bowman) in Ant Tunnel For Bowman, then bring back The Proof of a Hero. The first two quests give 4,780 EXP each.
Learn the second-job skills
| Skill | Max effect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Arrow Bomb | Up to 6 monsters, 130%, 60% stun for 2 seconds, 28 MP; delayed blast | planet-helper, mscw |
| Bow Mastery | Mastery 10, +10% crit rate, +10 speed | planet-helper, mscw |
| Final Attack: Bow | 25% trigger, 120% on up to 3 targets | planet-helper, mscw |
| Bow Booster | +2 attack-speed stages; 100 seconds at level 1 (mscw), 300 at max | mscw |
| Soul Arrow: Bow | No arrows used, 300 seconds; you lose arrow attack | mscw |
| Amazon's Judgement | Crits can slow the target. Planet-helper: 60% chance; mscw: −35 speed for 5 seconds | planet-helper, mscw |
Levels 30–70 give 121 SP, which is 19 short of maxing everything (mscw-guidebook).
Compare the three Hunter builds
| Skill | planet-helper (Arrow Bomb first) | mscw Arrow Bomb build | mscw Judgement build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrow Bomb | 30 (by Lv 44) | 30 | 11 |
| Bow Mastery | 20 (by Lv 49) | 20 (first) | 20 (first) |
| Final Attack: Bow | 30 | 30 | 30 |
| Bow Booster | 20 | 20 | 20 |
| Soul Arrow: Bow | 20 | 20 | 20 |
| Amazon's Judgement | 1 | 1 | 20 |
The totals match. The difference is order. Planet-helper starts with Arrow Bomb 1, then Bow Mastery 5 to open Booster, then maxes Arrow Bomb. Mscw-guidebook starts with Bow Mastery, puts 1 point each into Booster and Final Attack at Mastery 5, finishes Mastery, then maxes Arrow Bomb (or Final Attack for the Judgement build).
Our read: on crowded maps like Line 2 and The Burnt Land, Arrow Bomb first gets your multi-target damage online sooner. On sparse maps, mscw-guidebook's numbers make Bow Mastery first the stronger choice: it raises the Lv 50 test character's minimum damage from 298 to 1,098.
Soul Arrow warning: mscw-guidebook says level 1 costs 1,500 MP an hour, "about the same as buying 1,800 one-meso Arrows." Either raise it high or skip it.
Decide what to do with Final Attack
At launch your attack skills have a 25% chance to enable Final Attack for 60 seconds; you then cast it for 120% on up to 3 targets, for 20 MP at max (NiaMeowDB launch tooltip). Both sources still put 30 points into it by Lv 70; mscw-guidebook's manual-cast reading matches the tooltip, and planet-helper's toggle description comes from the test build. Details are in our launch skill changes.
Pick your bows
| Lv | Bow | Attack | Speed | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | Battle Bow | 44 | Fast | Woodcrafting 5 (planet-helper) |
| 30 | Ryden | 50 | Average | Woodcrafting 6. Karl in Henesys stops at Battle Bow (Lv 25, 16,500 mesos) at launch (NiaMeowDB) |
| 35 | Red Viper | 52 | Fast | Woodcrafting 7; drops from Fire Boars (planet-helper, mscw) |
| 40 | Vaulter 2000 | 60 | Average | Woodcrafting 8; Raffles in closed Forgotten Hollow |
| 50 | Olympus | 70 | Average | Woodcrafting 10 recipe (not craftable at launch, cap Lv 8) |
| 60 | Asianic Bow | 80 | — | Taurospear (Lv 75), drop only |
| 70 | Red Hinkel | 90 | — | Jr. Balrog (Lv 80), drop only |
Speed matters. Mscw-guidebook says the Red Viper does only 4% more damage per arrow than the Ryden, but about 14% more damage per second with Booster, because it's one speed stage faster.
Choose your arrows
| Arrow | Attack | Source (mscw-guidebook) | Value at Lv 50 with Olympus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrows for Bows | 0 | 1 meso, general stores | Baseline |
| Bronze Arrows | 1 | Raymond, Henesys Citizen grade 3 (2 mesos), or Woodcrafting 4 | +1.4% |
| Iron Arrows | 2 | Woodcrafting 7 | +2.9% |
| Adamantium Arrows | 3 | Woodcrafting 10 (not craftable at launch, cap Lv 8) | +4.3% |
| Soul Arrow | — | Skill; no arrows used and no arrow attack | Saves restocking trips |
Mscw-guidebook's conclusion is that "one-meso Arrows for Bows work fine." Bronze Arrows require Henesys citizenship, which our citizenship guide explains.
Train from 30 to 70
Planet-helper's route favors maps where monsters bunch up on nearby platforms:
| Level | Map | Main monster | 100% hit rate from (Focus 10) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30–35 | Land of Wild Boar / The Burnt Land II–III | Wild Boar, Fire Boar | Fire Boars at Lv 30 |
| 35–40 | The Burnt Land IV–V / Line 2 | Fire Boar, Lupin, Jr. Wraith | Jr. Wraiths at Lv 35 |
| 40–45 | East Rocky Mountain VII | Copper Drake | Lv 42 |
| 40–45 | Monkey Swamp III | Zombie Lupin (magic attacks) | Lv 41 |
| 45–58 | Line 2 / Line 1 | Wraith (about 100 monsters per map) | Lv 47 |
| 50–58 | The Entrance of Golem's Temple | Stone Golem | Lv 50 |
| 58–70 | Sleepy Dungeon V / III | Dark Stone Golem | Lv 58 |
| 55–70 | The Forest of Evil II | Malady (bow farming, old drop records) | Lv 55 |
Both sources warn against Monkey Forest II. Planet-helper says its floors are too far apart for Arrow Bomb, and mscw-guidebook says the old spot where you could hit monsters without being hit is gone in Classic World. At Lv 30, Arrow Bomb is only level 1, so use Arrow Blow until it grows (planet-helper). Every job's spots are in our training guide.
Sauna Robe: at Lv 32, Mr. Wetbottom in the VIP Sauna starts a 9-quest chain. It pays 49,140 EXP total and ends with a Blue or Red Sauna Robe (all stats +1, 10 slots), per planet-helper. See our quests guide for more.
Play your party role
Hunter attacks have no element before third job (planet-helper), so bring Magicians for monster weaknesses. A Cleric covers the holy-weak Wraiths, Zombie Lupins, Dark Stone Golems, and Maladies. An I/L covers the ice-weak Fire Boars and Copper Drakes. See our Cleric guide. Arrow Bomb's stun also gives melee players room to work.
Example: In a four-player Line 2 party, Arrow Bomb the Wraiths on the upper platforms while the Cleric heals the floor. Planet-helper lists the party EXP bonus at +30% for 4 or more players.
Return, boost, or roll an alt Hunter
- Coming back from old GMS? Power Knockback is a first-job skill now. Final Attack and Arrow Bomb work differently (mscw-guidebook). No open NPC shop sells bows above Lv 25 at launch (NiaMeowDB). Third job (Ranger) is in El Nath, which isn't open (planet-helper).
- Powerleveled Hunter: check where its SP went. The two first-skill orders are both valid, but its Woodcrafting level won't have kept up with its character level. A powerleveling service doesn't level crafts.
- Alts: a Hunter alt with Woodcrafting can supply bows and arrows to a Crossbowman main. Pair it with a Cleric for Line 2. See our world-first party plan.

What may change at Grand Launch
This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
FAQ
What should a Hunter max first in MapleStory Classic? Planet-helper says Arrow Bomb (maxed by Lv 44). Mscw-guidebook says Bow Mastery. Arrow Bomb suits crowded maps, and Bow Mastery suits single targets.
Is Final Attack: Bow worth it? Planet-helper calls it a toggle that loses damage and says to keep it off. Mscw-guidebook says it's a manual cast worth up to 360% on one target. Both still max it by 70.
Which bow should a Hunter use at Lv 35? The Red Viper. It's Fast, crafted at Woodcrafting 7, and drops from Fire Boars (planet-helper).
Where should a Hunter train in the 40s? Copper Drakes at East Rocky Mountain VII (100% hits from Lv 42), Zombie Lupins at Monkey Swamp III, then Wraiths on Line 1 and Line 2 from Lv 45.
Should Hunters use better arrows? Optional. Mscw-guidebook says Bronze to Adamantium Arrows add only 1.4–4.3% at Lv 50 with an Olympus, and one-meso arrows work fine.
Is Power Knockback still a Hunter skill? It's a first-job Bowman skill in Classic. Mscw-guidebook recommends leaving it at 0.
How much STR does a Hunter need? Enough for your bow. Bows from Lv 15 up need STR equal to their level, so the Olympus needs 50 STR (mscw-guidebook).
