MapleStory Classic Cleric Guide: Skill Build, Heal, Training 30–70
MapleStory Classic Cleric guide: first-job MP Saver build, four second-job builds compared, Heal and MP Eater math, holy-weak training maps.

In this guide 12 sections
Quick summary
- Cleric is the Holy branch of Magician. You take it in Ellinia at level 30, and with no third job in Founder's Access, it's where your character ends for now.
- Max Holy Arrow first. It's your single-target attack, and it hits hard against the undead in the Kerning City subway. Every guide we read maxes it somewhere between level 40 and 45.
- The guides disagree on how early to put points into Heal. Two put 1 point in at level 30 to save on potions. One stops at Heal 5 until much later, and another caps it at 11 for solo play.
- Train at Land of Wild Boar II, then Jr. Wraiths, then Wraiths on Subway Line 2. planet-helper says Forgotten Hollow is closed during Founder's Access.
- Clerics are the go-to Holy damage for Shade, Zombie Mushmom, and Jr. Balrog, and they're the cheapest class to run on community meso lists.
Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.
Decide whether Cleric fits you
mscw-guidebook says Cleric suits players who don't mind pressing Heal often and enjoy partying. Solo play works too: Holy Arrow is strong on one target, MP Eater keeps your MP up, and Heal keeps your HP up, so potion costs stay low. The trade-off is mobbing. Holy Arrow hits one monster, so it can't keep up with Poison Breath or Thunder Bolt against groups.
| You want | Cleric? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cheap training | Yes | Heal and MP Eater cut potion use. Community meso lists rank Cleric first. |
| Being wanted by parties | Yes | Heal, Bless, and Holy damage against undead bosses |
| Fast solo mobbing | No | Holy Arrow hits one target. Ice/Lightning and Fire/Poison Wizards mob better. |
| Bossing | Yes, against Holy-weak bosses | Three of the five challenge bosses are Holy-weak |
| A sturdy character | Somewhat | Low HP like every mage, but Invincible and Bless reduce the damage you take |
Our class tier list has Cleric's grades on every community list we track.
Build your Magician to level 30
You take first job in Ellinia at level 10. From 10 to 30 you get 61 SP, while maxing all six first-job skills would take 105. mscw-guidebook recommends what it calls the MP Saver build, which works for every Magician branch:
| Skill | SP | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Energy Bolt | 20 | Same damage and cast speed as Magic Claw, for less MP |
| Improved MP Recovery | 15 | Makes MP potions restore more, and adds a little MP regeneration |
| Magic Guard | 15 | A toggle. Moves part of the damage you take onto your MP. |
| Magic Armor | 8 | Adds defense |
| Max MP Increase | 3 | Only to meet the prerequisite |
| Magic Claw | 0 | Skipped |
Order: level Energy Bolt and Improved MP Recovery together, then max Magic Guard by level 27, then finish with Max MP Increase 3 and Magic Armor 8. In mscw-guidebook's simulation, this saves about 140 Lemons from level 10 to 30 compared with maxing Magic Guard first. Early monsters rarely reach you, so Magic Guard can come later.
Get your accuracy up first. In Classic World, spells can miss. mscw-guidebook's formula is accuracy = (INT × 1.2 + level × 2 + LUK × 0.6) ÷ 5.1 + 20. A fresh level 30 mage hits level 34 Jr. Wraiths only about 40% of the time. That rises to about 86% at level 34 and about 90% at 35. For your first few levels in second job, train on monsters below your level.
Build your Cleric skills
| Skill | Max | Prerequisite | At max (mscw-guidebook / planet-helper) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holy Arrow | 30 | — | Holy damage to 1 target, base 160, 28 MP |
| Heal | 30 | — | 100% recovery rate, up to 6 targets, 27 MP. Damages undead. Area height cut to 180 px on Oct 8 (NiaMeowDB). |
| MP Eater | 20 | — | 50% chance to drain 50% of the monster's max MP, once every 5 seconds |
| Teleport | 20 | — | 150 distance for 15 MP (55 MP at level 1) |
| Invincible | 20 | Heal 5 | −20% physical damage taken for 300 seconds. Hits back monsters that touch you. |
| Bless | 20 | Invincible 5 | −15% of all damage taken for you and your party, +10% Heal recovery, 300 seconds |
Levels 30 to 70 give you 121 SP (planet-helper counts 120), and maxing all six would take 140. Every build leaves about 19 points out.
Compare the four published builds
| Skill | mscw-guidebook Solo | mscw-guidebook Party | planet-helper | NiaMeowDB Party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Holy Arrow | 30 | 30 | 30 | 30 |
| Heal | 11 | 30 | Leftover (about 10) | 30 |
| MP Eater | 20 | 1 | 20 | 20 |
| Teleport | 20 | 20 | 20 | 20 |
| Invincible | 20 | 20 | 20 | 5 |
| Bless | 20 | 20 | 20 | 16 |
Source conflict on Heal: mapleclassic.guide and NiaMeowDB put 1 point into Heal at level 30. mapleclassic.guide calls it the highest-value skill at that level because it replaces HP potions. planet-helper stops Heal at 5, the minimum Invincible needs, so that you max Holy Arrow and reach Jr. Wraiths sooner. mscw-guidebook's solo build ends with Heal at 11 and says Heal 11 restores almost as much HP per MP as max Heal, just less per cast. For the party role, max Heal.
Source conflict on MP Eater: mscw-guidebook notes that some guides call the 5-second cooldown a reason to skip it. Its own math disagrees: on Wraiths, which have 80 MP, max MP Eater returns about 18,000 MP an hour, roughly 66 Lemons more than level 1. That's why its solo build maxes MP Eater.
Follow a leveling order
This is planet-helper's order, which is the simplest for solo play:
- Teleport 1, then MP Eater 1.
- Holy Arrow to 30. planet-helper has it maxed around level 40.
- Heal to 5, which opens Invincible.
- Invincible 20, then Bless 20.
- Teleport 20, then MP Eater 20.
- Put whatever's left into Heal.
For a party build, follow NiaMeowDB's order instead: max Holy Arrow by level 41, then Heal 5, Invincible 5, Bless 16 by level 49, Heal 30 by 58, MP Eater 20 by 64, and Teleport 20 by 70.
Example: you're level 36 with Holy Arrow at 14, training on Ant Tunnel monsters that aren't undead. mscw-guidebook says Holy Arrow only beats max Energy Bolt on non-Holy-weak monsters from skill level 22, but on Holy-weak monsters from level 13. Move to Jr. Wraiths, or keep using Energy Bolt on the Ant Tunnel monsters until Holy Arrow is higher. mapleclassic.guide says Energy Bolt one-shots Ant Tunnel monsters from level 35.
Use Heal well
- Solo, keep Magic Guard off. mscw-guidebook works out that a Wraith hits for about 200. With Magic Guard on, 160 of that comes out of your MP, so 100 hits cost about 90 Lemons. With it off, healing the damage back costs about 5.6 MP per hit. Turn Magic Guard on only when you're surrounded.
- Don't use Heal to attack. Heal does damage undead, but the damage is split among everyone in range, including you, and then halved. mscw-guidebook puts it at about 150 per Wraith against three Wraiths. Kill with Holy Arrow.
- In a party, stand in the middle of the group. The more party members in range, the more HP each one gets back. Use Teleport to catch up when people spread out.
Train on Holy-weak monsters
| Level | Map | Monster | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30–35 | The Land of Wild Boar II | Wild Boars (not Holy-weak. planet-helper's pick for levels 30–35.) | planet-helper |
| 30–40 | Ant Tunnel | Zombie Mushrooms (Holy-weak undead) | mscw-guidebook |
| 35–50 | Kerning City Subway Line 2 (planet-helper counts 83 Jr. Wraiths) | Jr. Wraith, Lv 34, Holy- and Fire-weak undead | planet-helper |
| 40–50 | Monkey Forest | Zombie Lupins (Holy-weak undead) | mapleclassic.guide; mscw-guidebook |
| 50–70 | Line 2, deeper in the subway (68 Wraiths) | Wraith, Lv 48, Holy-weak undead | planet-helper |
| 50–70 | Forest of Evil / Sleepy Dungeon | Maladies and Dark Stone Golems (Holy-weak but not undead) | mscw-guidebook |
Source conflict: mscw-guidebook lists Rotten Mushrooms and Sporewoods in Forgotten Hollow as Holy-weak, but planet-helper leaves Forgotten Hollow out because it's closed during Founder's Access. Check whether it's open after the October 21 launch. The full list of maps is in our MapleStory Classic training guide.
Choose between solo, party, and boss play
| Method | Speed | Upkeep | Best build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo on undead | Steady | Very low, thanks to Heal and MP Eater | mscw-guidebook Solo or planet-helper |
| Party healer | Fast with mobbing teammates | Low, and you share the party's experience | mscw-guidebook Party or NiaMeowDB |
| Holy-weak bosses | Fast boss kills | Some MP potions | Either build, with Holy Arrow maxed |
| Powerleveled | Fastest | Your gear and accuracy fall behind your level | See the boosted section below |
Take on the Holy-weak bosses
Our bosses guide lists five challenge bosses. The mapleclassic.wiki boss table marks three of them as Holy-weak:
| Boss | Level | Cleric's job |
|---|---|---|
| Shade | 48 | Main damage dealer with Holy Arrow. Our bosses guide notes Heal also damages undead. |
| Zombie Mushmom | 55 | Holy damage, plus Heal and Bless to keep the front-liner alive |
| Jr. Balrog | 80 | Bless and Heal for a full, geared party. Holy Arrow for damage. |
Example: a level 48 Cleric joins a Spearman and an Assassin for Shade. Keep Bless up for the party and Invincible up for yourself. Heal when two or more people are below half HP, and use Holy Arrow the rest of the time.
Gear up: wands and AP
Put just enough AP into LUK to wear your next weapon or armor, and the rest into INT. mscw-guidebook says INT counts twice in spell damage and LUK adds none. Its LUK targets are 20 at level 30 and 30 at level 40. The Cromi wand and level 50 mage armor both need 40.
Take a wand over a staff of the same level. mscw-guidebook found that from level 10 to 25, each wand has 3 more magic attack than the same-level staff. Cast speed doesn't depend on the weapon. Staves add critical damage, which mscw-guidebook says is worth only about 0.1% at level 20.
If you're returning, boosted, or making an alt
- Returning from old MapleStory? Don't follow old Heal-only leveling. planet-helper says the original game's Heal had a 300% recovery rate, while in Classic World it's 100% and its range was cut on October 8. Holy Arrow now does 160 to one target. In Beta 2 it hit up to three targets for 60, and in the original game it hit one target for 80. Spells can also miss now, as covered above.
- Powerleveled or boosted to 30+? Check your accuracy before you move to Jr. Wraiths. If you're short, put more AP into INT and train on lower-level monsters for a few levels. Also check that Holy Arrow actually has points in it. A Cleric who was powerleveled often arrives with SP left to spend.
- Making a Cleric alt? Nexon gives each account three character slots in Founder's Access. A Cleric alt is the cheapest to run, and parties want one for Shade and Zombie Mushmom. Our mesos guide covers how to fund an alt. For a single-target alt to pair with it, see our Assassin guide.

What may change at Grand Launch
This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
FAQ
What level do you become a Cleric in MapleStory Classic?
Level 30. You make the choice in Ellinia as a Magician, after taking first job at level 10.
What should a Cleric max first?
Holy Arrow. Every guide we read maxes it first, somewhere between level 40 and 45.
Should I put points into Heal early?
One point at level 30 saves potions, according to mapleclassic.guide and NiaMeowDB. planet-helper stops at 5 so you max Holy Arrow sooner. For the party role, max Heal.
Is MP Eater worth maxing?
For solo play on Wraiths, yes, according to mscw-guidebook's numbers. Its party build leaves MP Eater at 1 and puts those points into Heal.
Where should a Cleric train from 30 to 70?
Land of Wild Boar II, then Jr. Wraiths on Subway Line 2, then Wraiths deeper in the subway. Zombie Lupins in Monkey Forest are another option.
Is Cleric good for bossing in Classic World?
Against Shade, Zombie Mushmom, and Jr. Balrog, yes. All three are Holy-weak, and parties want Bless and Heal for them.
Does Heal still damage undead?
Yes, but the damage is split among everyone in range and then halved, so it's weak. Use Holy Arrow to kill.
