The Excavation Site is the Perion area Nexon added at Grand Launch, and its Remains are the only Victoria Island maps built for levels 57 to 73. This MapleStory Classic Excavation Site guide shows how to walk there, lists all 12 maps with live spawn counts, gives every monster's stats and weakness, lays out a training route by level, and covers the Cleric route and the community-recorded drops.
Quick summary
- Excavation Site is a new Perion area from Grand Launch (October 21). It has 12 maps and eight monsters, from Ghost Stump (level 19) to Commander Skeleton (level 73) (MapleClassic Wiki, MS-Classic).
- Get there from Perion by going through Perion Street Corner, East Rocky Mountain I and Rocky Road I–III, then taking the right portal into Excavation Site I.
- Train at 19 to 24 on Ghost Stumps and Masks, at 44 to 50 on Skeledogs in the Tombs, at 57 to 62 in Camp 1 (20 Skeleton Soldiers), and from 63 in Camp 3 (14 Officer Skeletons).
- Every monster past the Masks is undead and weak to Holy, which makes the Remains the best Cleric route in the game right now.
- The Camps are small. The map data caps Camp 1 at 7 monsters alive at once and Camp 3 at 8 (MS-Classic).
Walk to the Excavation Site
From Perion (MS-Classic, wiki map links):
- Perion → Perion Street Corner.
- Perion Street Corner → East Rocky Mountain I.
- East Rocky Mountain I → Rocky Road I → Rocky Road II → Rocky Road III.
- Take the right portal on Rocky Road III into Excavation Site I.
From Ellinia, walk to East Domain of Perion and on to Rocky Road III. MS-Classic counts the Camps as about 12 maps from either Perion or Ellinia, so stock potions before you set out. There's no shop inside. Our Rocky Mountain guide covers the maps on the way, and the Perion town guide the shops to stock up at.

All levels and spawn counts are from the client data (MapleClassic Wiki, verified 1.0.0). The spawn count is how many spawn points a map has, not how many monsters are alive at once.

The Remains maps share the BGM "Acient Remain" (spelled that way in the client), and regular spawns come back about every 7.5 seconds (wiki).
Know the eight monsters
| Monster | Lv | HP | EXP | EXP per 100 HP | Weak / resists | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ghost Stump | 19 | 404 | 35 | 8.7 | Weak to Fire | 7 |
| Wooden Mask | 23 | 462 | 43 | 9.3 | 0 weapon DEF, 30 magic DEF | 14 |
| Rocky Mask | 24 | 479 | 45 | 9.4 | 30 weapon DEF, 0 magic DEF | 14 |
| Skeledog | 44 | 2,134 | 102 | 4.8 | Weak to Holy (undead) | 27 |
| Mummydog | 47 | 2,513 | 117 | 4.7 | Weak to Holy (undead) | 29 |
| Skeleton Soldier | 57 | 3,872 | 183 | 4.7 | Weak to Holy (undead); no MP | 34 |
| Officer Skeleton | 63 | 5,976 | 242 | 4.0 | Weak to Holy (undead) | 37 |
| Commander Skeleton | 73 | 11,915 | 390 | 3.3 | Weak to Holy; resists Ice; immune to Poison | 42 |
Two notes from the wiki: Skeleton Soldier gives more EXP per HP than anything within five levels except Malady, and Skeledog is behind only Wraith and Zombie Lupin in its range. Levels and stats match henesys.gg's update notes for the Grand Launch build, which list Rocky Mask at level 24. For every other monster's numbers, see our monster list.
Train by level: a route you can follow
Levels 19 to 24: Excavation Site I–III
- Physical classes (Warriors, Bowmen, Thieves) should farm Wooden Masks on Excavation Site II. They have 0 weapon defense and there are 30 spawns.
- Magicians should farm Rocky Masks on Excavation Site III. They have 0 magic defense but 30 weapon defense.
- Ghost Stumps on Excavation Site I are weak to Fire and have only 7 avoid, which suits characters who haven't taken their second job yet. The wiki points out that Jr. Necki gives about 1.7x the EXP for the same damage, so Ghost Stumps are a convenience pick, not the best EXP.
Example: a level 22 Magician uses Magic Claw on Excavation Site III. The Rocky Masks' 0 magic defense means every hit lands in full, and Wooden Masks' 30 magic defense is why she skips Excavation Site II.
Levels 25 to 43: train elsewhere
Nothing here fits these levels. The Masks give little EXP after 25, and Skeledogs start at 44. Our training guide covers the usual 25 to 43 maps; in Perion, that means The Burnt Land V from 31 and Dangerous Valley in the early 40s (our Burnt Land guide). Winston's Old Tree quest chain starts at level 34 in East Rocky Mountain II, which is on the way here, and ends at Stumpy, the level 35 field boss added at Grand Launch. See the Stumpy guide.
Levels 44 to 56: Remains (Tomb) I–III
- Tomb I (16 Skeledogs, 7 Mummydogs) is the purest dog map.
- Tombs II and III add a couple of Skeleton Soldiers. Two spawns of a level 57 monster are worth noting if you're at 45.
- Non-Holy classes: MS-Classic still ranks the Kerning subway Wraith lines (68 spawns on Line 2 Area 3) above the Tombs for 50 to 56, because of density.
Levels 57 to 62: Camp 1 (or Camp 2)
- Camp 1 is the densest Skeleton Soldier map (20 spawns, plus 5 Officers). The map data caps it at 7 monsters alive at once, so it suits one player, not a party (MS-Classic); our party grinding guide explains map capacity.
- Getting in: from Remains (Tomb) II, use the hidden portal at the top of the map (wiki).
- Camp 2 has 12 Soldiers and 8 Officers. Use it when Camp 1 is taken.
- Accuracy: MS-Classic estimates about 111 accuracy to hit Skeleton Soldiers reliably at level 57. Our accuracy guide explains how to work out your own number.
- Skeleton Soldiers have no MP, so MP Eater does nothing here. Bring MP potions.
Levels 63 to 72: Camp 3, then Remains (Cliff)
- Camp 3 has 14 Officer Skeletons (level 63, 5,976 HP, 242 EXP) and is capped at 8 alive (MS-Classic). Reach it from Remains (Tomb) IV.
- Remains (Cliff) has 14 Commander Skeletons (level 73, 11,915 HP, 390 EXP). MS-Classic calls it a late-60s map at best. Commanders have 42 avoid and resist Ice and are immune to Poison, so I/L and F/P Wizards struggle here.
- Fallback: if Officers don't die quickly for you, MS-Classic says the Wraith lines and Sleepy Dungeon V still give more total EXP because of density. Sleepy Dungeon V is thinner than it was, though: since October 15 it holds at most 20 monsters at once, down from 31 (henesys.gg). For everything past 70, see our training guide for 70 to 100.
Play the Remains as a Cleric
Every monster from Skeledog onward is undead and weak to Holy. That makes Excavation Site the strongest Cleric route available:
| Level | Map | Main target | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 44–50 | Remains (Tomb) I | Skeledog | Heal damages undead and keeps your HP topped |
| 50–56 | Tomb I or Forest of Evil (Malady) | Skeledog / Malady | Malady has the best EXP per HP in range (MS-Classic) |
| 57–62 | Camp 1 | Skeleton Soldier | MS-Classic: move in once Holy Arrow kills them in two casts |
| 63–70 | Camp 3 | Officer Skeleton | |
| 70+ | Remains (Cliff) | Commander Skeleton | MS-Classic: 6 to 11 casts at level 70, so wait |
Heal damages undead monsters in its area as well as healing you, with no aiming (NiaMeowDB's Heal page). At max level it costs 27 MP and covers 600 × 180 px, with six shared slots: you and up to five party members or undead monsters, so party members near you take slots away from targets. Since the October 8 fix the area is only 180 px tall, so stand on the same platform as the dogs rather than a ledge above them. Because Heal also restores your HP, you'll spend almost nothing on HP potions. You'll still burn MP potions; Improved MP Recovery, buffed at Grand Launch to +10% to +25%, helps. Our Cleric guide has the full build.
Example: a level 52 Cleric with max Heal stands in the middle of Remains (Tomb) I. Each cast hits up to five Skeledogs at once and tops up her HP, so a full clear costs Blue Potions only.
Know what drops here (community-recorded)
Drop tables aren't in the game client, so these come from players' drop reports on NiaMeowDB, not from Nexon. Treat them as where to look, not as rates:
| Monster | Recorded scroll drops | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Mask | Earring STR Scroll: Intermediate | Earrings guide |
| Skeledog | Cape Accuracy Scroll: Intermediate | Capes guide |
| Skeleton Soldier | Cape Accuracy Scroll: Greater | Capes guide |
| Officer Skeleton | Cape DEX Scroll: Intermediate | Capes guide |
henesys.gg also notes that Seedlings and Wooden Boards drop in the Excavation Site, and since Grand Launch they can be crafted into Processed Wood, which feeds Woodcrafting and the new house furniture recipes. Our Woodcrafting guide covers the recipes.
If you're returning, boosted, or on an alt
- Returning players: the original game's Excavation Site had Skeleton maps too, but Classic World's spawn counts and caps are new. Use the tables above.
- Fast-leveled characters: check your accuracy before Camp 1. A character that leveled quickly often has the level but not the gear for 111 accuracy; our accuracy guide shows how to work out your number.
- Alts: a Cleric alt can solo Tomb I from 44 on very few HP potions, so it's a cheap way to level a second character.

What Grand Launch added with the Excavation Site
Nexon's Grand Launch release notes introduce the Excavation Site and name its eight monsters, from Ghost Stump to Commander Skeleton. Other launch changes affect how you train here:
- More potion drops from monsters level 10 to 30, which covers the Ghost Stumps and Masks (maintenance notes).
- Windia expanded to 40 channels, so a free Camp 1 is easier to find despite the 7-monster cap. If a camp looks botted, our bots guide covers the Lie Detector Test.
- Stumpy, a new level 35 field boss, sits in Parched Land past East Rocky Mountain, on the walk here.
- Orbis and El Nath are still closed, so the Remains (Cliff) and Sleepy Dungeon V remain the top of Victoria Island training until Ossyria opens.
The MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.
