Magicians hit with spells, so the number that matters on a wand or staff is magic attack, not weapon attack. MapleStory Classic World has 11 wands and 8 staves, from the level 10 Wooden Wand and Wooden Staff to the level 70 Angel Wings. This MapleStory Classic wands guide lists all 19 with magic attack, INT and LUK needs, price and source. It covers Flora's prices, which ones you can craft in the live game, wand vs staff math, scrolls and an upgrade path for all three Magician jobs.
Quick summary
- 19 magic weapons: 11 wands and 8 staves, all with 7 upgrade slots. A wand has 3 to 4 more magic attack than the staff at the same level. Staves add 1–6% crit damage instead (MapleStory Quest, Public Release client).
- Flora the Fairy sells both lines up to level 25, from 3,000 to 13,500 mesos, in the Ellinia Weapon Store (NiaMeowDB launch prices).
- Arcforge makes every wand from 20 to 40, ending with the Fairy Wand at craft level 8. Grand Launch kept the craft level 8 cap, so the Arc Staff (craft 9) and Cromi (craft 10) still can't be crafted (NiaMeowDB).
- Every wand and staff from level 20 needs LUK. The INT need is twice the weapon level, and LUK climbs from 10 to 65 (MapleStory Quest; NiaMeowDB).
- Magic Attack scrolls give +2 per Lesser, double a weapon attack scroll. Seven Lessers add +14 magic attack for 420,000 mesos at El Moth (MapleStory Quest odds; NiaMeowDB price).

Stats, needs, sell prices and recipe levels are MapleStory Quest's client read. Flora's prices are NiaMeowDB launch prices. MapleStory Quest's pages for Thorns and Evil Wings don't list stat needs, so theirs are from NiaMeowDB's item pages. Wands use Normal (6) speed and staves Slow (7), but that doesn't affect spells.
Buy from Flora
| Item | Flora's launch price | Craft fee | Craft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Wand / Wooden Staff | 3,000 | 1,500 | Woodcrafting 2: 4 Processed Wood |
| Hardwood Wand | 5,000 | 1,500 | Woodcrafting 3: 5 Wood, 30 Orange Mushroom Caps |
| Sapphire / Emerald Staff | 5,000 | 2,500 | Arcforge 3: 3 Silver Ingots, 2 gems, 9 Screws |
| Metal Wand | 10,500 | 3,500 | Arcforge 4: 4 Iron Ingots, 30 Blue Mushroom Caps, 12 Screws |
| Old Wooden Staff | 10,500 | 3,500 | Woodcrafting 4: 6 Wood, 1 Silver Ingot, 12 Screws |
| Ice Wand | 13,500 | 4,500 | Arcforge 5: 5 Mithril Ingots, 1 Piece of Ice, 15 Screws |
| Wizard Staff | 13,500 | 4,500 | Arcforge 5: 5 Silver Ingots, 1 Topaz, 2 Amethyst, 15 Screws |
Prices: NiaMeowDB lists Flora's 13-item launch stock. Fees and recipes: MapleStory Quest (our Arcforge and Woodcrafting guides). The Hardwood Wand sells to an NPC for 2,500 on a 1,500 fee, the one launch Woodcrafting recipe that pays more than it costs. Our Ellinia guide shows where Flora stands.
Planet-helper's all-INT comparison uses the Yellow Umbrella, a level 40 sword with 52 magic attack and no stat needs (henesys.gg), in place of a wand; our swords guide lists it with the other all-job swords. It trails the Fairy Wand by 17 magic attack, so it only makes sense for an all-INT build that can't meet the wand's 30 LUK.
Craft your level 30–40 wand
| Wand | Arcforge level | Character level | Ingredients | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mithril Wand | 6 | 30 | 6 Mithril Ingots, 4 Aquamarine, 18 Screws | 5,500 |
| Wizard Wand | 7 | 35 | 7 Mithril Ingots, 5 Topaz, 21 Screws | 7,500 |
| Fairy Wand | 8 | 40 | 8 Topaz, 3 Sapphire, 3 Diamonds, 1 Fairy Wing, 24 Screws | 9,500 |
| Arc Staff | 9 (not at launch) | 45 | 9 Silver Ingots, 4 Amethyst, 3 Sapphire, 1 Fairy Wing, 27 Screws | 11,500 |
| Cromi | 10 (not at launch) | 50 | 10 Mithril Ingots, 4 Topaz, 4 Emerald, 1 Piece of Ice, 30 Screws | 13,500 |
Recipes come from MapleStory Quest's read of the client and match NiaMeowDB's crafting list, which still shows the level 9 and 10 recipes as not available. None of the level 30–40 wands is in Flora's stock (NiaMeowDB lists all 13 items she sells), so Arcforge, a drop or a trade is the way to get them.
Our math on inputs: ingots take 5 ore each, gems take 1 ore each, and one Screw craft makes 10 Screws (our Arcforge guide, from MapleStory Quest). A Mithril Wand takes 30 Mithril Ore, 4 Aquamarine Ore and 2 Screw crafts. A Fairy Wand takes 14 gem ores, a Fairy Wing and 3 Screw crafts. Leveling Arcforge to 8 takes 4,582 craft EXP on NiaMeowDB's table, about 330 gem ores on the cheapest route (our Arcforge guide). See also our crafting guide.
Settle wand vs staff
The magic formula from henesys.gg and NiaMeowDB (our damage formula guide) is:
- Magic total = INT ÷ 2 + magic attack
- Max = skill % × magic total × (1 + INT ÷ 125)
Weapon attack and attack speed don't change spell damage. NiaMeowDB times every Magician spell at 810 ms with a wand or a staff, and Magicians have no Booster skill in first or second job (our attack speed guide). So the only differences are magic attack, the staff's crit damage, and the wand's free off-hand.
Our math at 120 INT (magic total = 60 + magic attack):
| Level | Wand | Staff | Magic total | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | Metal Wand (41) | Old Wooden Staff (38) | 101 vs 98 | Wand +3.1% |
| 25 | Ice Wand (48) | Wizard Staff (45) | 108 vs 105 | Wand +2.9% |
| 40 | Fairy Wand (69) | Wizard Staff (45) | 129 vs 105 | Wand +22.9% |
The staff's +2 crit damage only matters on crits, so the wand wins at every launch level. The wand also leaves a hand free for a shield. Our shields guide found no recorded release source for Magician shields yet.
Our pick: wands all the way to 40. The staff ladder has a gap from 25 to 45, and the level 45 Arc Staff isn't craftable at launch.
Meet the LUK requirements
Planet-helper's advice for an INT + LUK Magician: add LUK only up to the next weapon's need and put the rest in INT. "That's LUK 20 for the Lv 30 wand, 40 for Lv 45–50 and 65 for the Lv 70 wand." Its comparison puts INT + LUK "about 12% ahead at Lv 30–35" over all-INT with an umbrella, under 1% apart at 40–60, and 6–7% ahead at 65–70 once you have Evil Wings.
| Weapon level | LUK needed | Wand | Staff |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 10–15 | Metal Wand (10) | Old Wooden Staff (15) |
| 25 | 15–20 | Ice Wand (15) | Wizard Staff (20) |
| 30 | 20 | Mithril Wand | – |
| 40 | 30 | Fairy Wand | – |
| 45–50 | 40 | Cromi | Arc Staff |
| 55 | 50 | – | Thorns |
| 60 | 55 | Evil Tale | – |
| 65 | 60 | – | Evil Wings |
| 70 | 65 | Angel Wings | – |
Our Magician guide covers first-job AP.
Scroll your wand
| Scroll | Success | Effect | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wand or Staff Magic Attack Scroll: Lesser | 100% | +2 magic attack | None |
| Intermediate | 60% | +4 | None |
| Greater | 10% | +8 | None |
| Chaos | 10% | +10 | 50% to destroy |
Odds come from MapleStory Quest. El Moth sells the Wand and Staff Lessers for 60,000 mesos each (NiaMeowDB). Our math: seven Lessers add +14 magic attack for 420,000 mesos. On a Fairy Wand at 120 INT, that's a magic total of 143 instead of 129, about 11% more damage. That ties a clean level 50 Cromi (60 + 83 = 143), which you can't craft at launch. Scroll the Fairy Wand you'll hold from 40 to 50. Our scrolling guide covers the tiers.
Follow an upgrade path
| Level | Pick | Source | Running cost (our math) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Wooden Wand | Flora or Woodcrafting 2 | 3,000 |
| 15 | Hardwood Wand | Flora or Woodcrafting 3 | 8,000 |
| 20 | Metal Wand | Flora or Arcforge 4 | 18,500 |
| 25 | Ice Wand | Flora or Arcforge 5 | 32,000 |
| 30 | Mithril Wand | Arcforge 6 or trade | +5,500 fee |
| 35 | Wizard Wand | Arcforge 7 or trade | +7,500 fee |
| 40 | Fairy Wand | Arcforge 8, Mushmom, or trade | +9,500 fee |
| 50+ | Cromi, Evil Tale, Angel Wings; or Thorns, Evil Wings | Drops or later crafting | – |
Our math on Flora: buying all four of Flora's wand tiers costs 32,000 mesos. Crafting the same four costs 11,000 in fees plus materials, and you get every fee back if you vendor them. Older data lists the Fairy Wand from Mushmom at 4% (our Mushmom guide). Job guides: Cleric, Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard.
Handle alts and returning players
- Returning players: Flora's stock matches what you remember up to level 25, but she doesn't sell the Mithril Wand at launch (NiaMeowDB).
- Magician alts: keep the Fairy Wand. Every Magician job uses the same wands, and any Magician can wear it from 40.
- Arcforge crafters: the Mithril, Wizard and Fairy Wands are your best trade goods, since no launch shop sells them.
- Rushing a Magician: fast levels won't level Arcforge, and the level 30–40 wands come from Arcforge or drops. Past 70, our training guide 70-100 matches each Magician job to the monsters weak to its element.
- Woodcrafters: the Wooden Wand, Wooden Staff, Hardwood Wand and Old Wooden Staff come from Woodcrafting, which a Magician can level on the same Processed Wood (our Woodcrafting guide).

What changed for Magician weapons at Grand Launch
Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) left every wand's and staff's stats, Flora's stock and every recipe above as they were, and crafting still stops at craft level 8. The changes that matter to Magicians, per Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes:
- Improved MP Recovery was buffed: MP potions now restore 10% to 25% more, up from 5% to 20%. Combined with higher potion drops from level 10–30 monsters, an early Magician's MP bill shrinks.
- Poison Breath was fixed: it no longer charges MP twice per hit, and it no longer deals more than 1 damage to poison-immune monsters.
- The Green Jester Hat gained the +18 magic defense it was missing.
The Halloween Mystery Fashion Crate (October 28 to November 4) includes the Glowing Pumpkin Basket, a cosmetic weapon cover that fits wands and staves among other weapons; it changes looks only (Nexon's Halloween Cash Shop notice; our Cash Shop guide). Orbis, El Nath and 3rd job remain closed, so the level 50–70 wands and staves above are still drops only. The MapleStory Classic hub gathers every guide and service for the game.
