MapleStory Classic Equipment Guide: Gear by Level and Job

Plan MapleStory Classic gear from level 10 to 70: weapon ladders for every job, the level 25 shop cutoff, drops and crafts that replace shops.

THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • Town shops sell every job's weapons and armor in five-level steps up to level 25 at launch, then stop. The wiki gear guides say 30, but NiaMeowDB's launch shop lists end at Lv 25. From 30, gear comes from monster drops and crafting.
  • Buy the weapon first. It decides how fast you kill, and the training maps already drop several free weapons, such as the Triple-Tipped Zamadar from Bubblings and both level 30 bowman weapons from Wild Boars.
  • Crafting owns three slots outright: gloves for every job, shoes from level 25 or 30, and most weapons from level 35. Smithing, Tailoring, Leatherworking, Woodcrafting, Weaponcrafting, and Arcforge each cover part of it.
  • Stat requirements set your AP. Every weapon asks for a secondary stat (DEX for warriors, LUK for magicians, STR for bowmen, DEX or STR for thieves), so plan AP to your next weapon, not your current one.
  • Gear past level 40 is only partly documented. The wiki lists level 50, 60, and 70 weapons with their requirements, but many have no confirmed source yet.

Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.

Learn how gear works in Classic World

Your character has nine equipment slots: hat, top, bottom (or an overall that covers both), shoes, gloves, cape, earring, weapon, and shield. According to the wiki's Equipment page, every pair of gloves carries critical rate, which no other armor slot has. Every earring gives magic defense and none gives a main stat. Arrows, crossbow bolts, and throwing stars are Use items, not equipment.

Three things can stop you from wearing an item: its level, its stat requirement (for example, 50 STR and 20 DEX), and its job branch. The tooltip shows all three.

Supply line Covers Stops at
Town shops Every weapon family and armor set, in five-level steps Level 25 at launch (NiaMeowDB). The wiki says 30.
Monster drops Free copies of shop items, plus drop-only armor from 30 to 40 No fixed end
Crafting Gloves at every tier, shoes from 25 or 30, most weapons from 35 Craft level 8 recipes (about item level 40)

This table is a summary of the wiki's four gear guides, not a full item list.

Spend nothing before level 10

All four wiki guides give the same advice: don't buy anything on Maple Island. Bank your mesos for the shopping trip in your job town. The island already drops starter gear:

  • Warrior: Red Snails drop the Wooden Sword, and Orange Mushrooms drop the Long Sword and Bronze Koif.
  • Magician: Stumps on Victoria Island drop the Wooden Staff, and Slimes drop the level 15 Lemona gloves.
  • Bowman: Shrooms drop the Green Avelin Skirt, and Orange Mushrooms drop the Green Winter Hat and Brown Hard Leather Boots.
  • Thief: Red Snails drop the Red Cloth Pants and the level 15 Brown Duo gloves.

Follow your job's weapon ladder to level 40

These tables list each family's weapons by level. "Shop" means the job town's weapon vendor sells it. The vendors are River in Perion, Flora the Fairy in Ellinia, Karl in Henesys, and Cutthroat Manny in Kerning City.

Warrior weapons

Level Sword Axe Blunt Spear / Polearm
15 Sabre (1H, 32 atk, shop) Battle Axe (1H, 32, shop) Heavy Mace (2H, 37, shop) Fork on a Stick (37) / Iron Ball (37), shop
20 Viking Sword (1H, 37) or Two-Handed Sword (40), shop Iron Axe (2H, 40, shop) Square Hammer (2H, 42, shop) Studded Polearm (39, shop)
25 Eloon (1H, 42) or Broadsword (2H, 45), shop Mithril Axe (1H, 42) or Two-Handed Axe (45), shop Fusion Mace (1H, 41, shop) —
30 Gladius (1H, 47) or Scimitar (2H, 53) Fireman's Axe (1H, 50) or Blue Axe (2H, 50) War Hammer (1H, 49) or Mithril Maul (2H, 49) Forked Spear (52) / Mithril Pole Arm (52)
35 Cutlus (1H, 55) or Lionheart (2H, 52) Dankke (1H, 55) or Niam (2H, 55, Weaponcrafting 7) Heavy Hammer (1H, 54) or Sledgehammer (2H, 57, Weaponcrafting 7) Nakamaki (57) / Axe Pole Arm (57, Weaponcrafting 7)
40 Unconfirmed source Sabretooth (2H, 60, Weaponcrafting 8) Titan (2H, 62, Weaponcrafting 8) Crescent Polearm (62, Weaponcrafting 8)

Every warrior weapon past the starters asks for DEX. The level 30 tier needs 60 to 65 STR and 25 to 30 DEX. One-handed weapons keep the shield slot open. Two-handed weapons hit harder and take it away.

Magician weapons

Level Wand Staff
10 Wooden Wand (27 magic atk, shop or Stump drop) Wooden Staff (24, shop)
15 Hardwood Wand (34, crafted at Woodcrafting 3) Emerald Staff (31, shop)
20 Metal Wand (41, shop) Old Wooden Staff (38, shop)
25 Ice Wand (48, shop) Wizard Staff (45, shop)
30 Mithril Wand (55, Arcforge 6) —
35 Wizard Wand (62, Arcforge 7) —
40 Fairy Wand (69, Arcforge 8) —

The wiki notes the staff ladder stops at level 25 in this range, so most magicians switch to wands. Wands also have more magic attack than the staff of the same level at every tier.

Bowman weapons

Level Bow Crossbow
10 War Bow (30 atk, shop) No confirmed source for the starter Crossbow. Use the War Bow.
15 Composite Bow (35, shop) Battle Crossbow (37, shop)
20 Hunter's Bow (42, shop) Balanche (39, shop)
25 Battle Bow (44, shop) Mountain Crossbow (47, shop)
30 Ryden (50), Wild Boar drop or Woodcrafting 6 Eagle Crow (52), Wild Boar drop or Woodcrafting 6
35 Red Viper (52, Woodcrafting 7) —
40 Vaulter 2000 (60, Woodcrafting 8) Heckler (59, Woodcrafting 8)

Basic arrows cost 1 meso at every department store. Bronze Arrows (+1 attack) are sold by Raymond in Henesys at citizenship grade 3 for 2 mesos, or crafted at Woodcrafting 4; Iron Arrows (+2) are craft-only at Woodcrafting 7.

Thief weapons

Level Dagger Claw
10 Triangular Zamadar (28, shop) Garnier (20, shop)
15–17 Triple-Tipped Zamadar (Lv 17, 35, shop or Bubbling drop) Steel Titans (Lv 15, 22, shop)
20–22 Stinger (Lv 22, 40, shop) Steel Igor (Lv 20, 27, shop)
25–27 Iron Dagger (Lv 25, 40, Horny Mushroom drop) or Forked Dagger (Lv 27, 45, shop) Meba (Lv 25, 29, last shop claw)
30 Reef Claw (a dagger, 48) Steel Guards (37, Weaponcrafting 6)
35 Halfmoon Zamadar (53, Weaponcrafting 7) Dark Guardian (42, Weaponcrafting 7)
40 Gephart (58, Weaponcrafting 8) or Korean Fan (55) Steel Avarice (47, Weaponcrafting 8)

For claw users, stars matter as much as the claw. Subi stars are sold for 500 mesos. Wolbi stars come from Max for 1,000 mesos. Mokbi, Kumbi, Steely, and Ilbi stars are drop-only (Thief gear guide).

Example: a dagger thief hits level 15 while training at Line 1 (Area 1). The wiki says to skip the level 15 Field Dagger and keep killing Bubblings, because they drop the level 17 Triple-Tipped Zamadar you'd otherwise buy.

Buy armor in five-level steps until 25

Each job town has one armor vendor: Harry in Perion, Serabi the Fairy in Ellinia, Sam in Henesys, and Don Hwang in Kerning City. The wiki says they restock every five levels to 30. NiaMeowDB's launch lists stop at the Lv 25 tier, such as Harry's Master Sergeant set and Iron Burgonet Helm.

Job Armor pieces worth knowing Why
Warrior Bronze Koif (10), Iron Burgonet Helm (25), shields from River Shields add 70 to 110 weapon defense through level 30
Magician Blue Plain Robe (15, INT +3), Blue Doros Robe (25, INT +5) One robe out-armors the top and bottom it replaces
Bowman Green Hunter (25 hat), Bennis Chain Pants (25) Each Sam tier adds DEX, which is also your accuracy
Thief Dark Sneak (25 top), Black Sneak Pants (25, also a Horny Mushroom drop) Each Don Hwang tier adds LUK

Don't buy every piece at every step.

Hunt and craft your gear from 30 to 40

When the shops stop, the training maps take over. The wiki gear guides name the monsters that drop each piece.

Monster Drops Useful for
Curse Eye Great Brown Helmet, Battle Shield, Green Matty, Green Pilfer, Black Knucklevest Warrior, Magician, Thief
Fire Boar Blood Fitted Mail, Red Matty, Red Guiltian, Red Pilfer, Wolbi stars All four
Jr. Wraith Yellow Jangoon Armor, White Doros Robe, Dark Guise, Mokbi stars Warrior, Magician, Thief
Zombie Mushroom Blue and White Chaos Robes (Lv 35) Magician
Cold Eye Blue and Brown Starlight (Lv 40) Magician
Wild Boar Ryden and Eagle Crow (Lv 30) Bowman
Lorang Steal set (Lv 30), Cat's Eye earring, Korean Fan Thief

Our training guide places each of these monsters by level. Farming a drop on a map that's right for your level costs you nothing extra.

Know which craft owns which slot

Slot Warrior Magician Bowman Thief
Gloves Smithing (every tier) Tailoring (every tier) Leatherworking (every tier) Leatherworking (every tier)
Shoes Smithing from 25 Tailoring from 30 Leatherworking from 25 Leatherworking from 25
Weapons 30–40 Weaponcrafting (most 35–40) Arcforge (the only source of wands past 30) Woodcrafting (every bow 10–40, late crossbows, better arrows) Weaponcrafting (claws from 30, daggers 35–40)
Helmets / armor Smithing (better helm variants, Lv 40 set) Tailoring (hats) — —

The wiki's Thief gear guide puts it plainly: gloves are never sold, shoes stop being sold after level 20, and claws stop after level 25. If you don't want to craft, these are the slots to watch in other players' shops. Our crafting guide covers how each profession levels.

Plan your weapons from 45 to 70

The wiki's item-by-job tables list higher-level weapons and their requirements. Many show no confirmed drop or craft source yet, and some attack values are blank. Use the table to plan your AP, not to promise a drop.

Family Level 50 Level 60 Level 70
One-handed sword Jeweled Katar (100 STR, 45 DEX) Neocora (120 STR, 55 DEX) Red Katana (140 STR, 65 DEX)
Two-handed sword Lion's Fang (105 STR, 50 DEX) Sparta (125 STR, 60 DEX) Doombringer (145 STR, 70 DEX)
One-handed axe Buck (100 STR, 45 DEX) Hawkhead (120 STR, 55 DEX) Mikhail (140 STR, 65 DEX)
Two-handed axe The Rising (105 STR, 50 DEX) The Shining (125 STR, 60 DEX) Chrono (145 STR, 70 DEX)
Spear Serpent's Tongue (105 STR, 50 DEX) Holy Spear (125 STR, 60 DEX) Redemption (145 STR, 70 DEX)
Polearm The Nine Dragons (105 STR, 50 DEX) Skylar (125 STR, 60 DEX) The Gold Dragon (145 STR, 70 DEX)
Wand / Staff Cromi wand (100 INT, 40 LUK) Evil Tale wand (120 INT, 55 LUK) Angel Wings wand (140 INT, 65 LUK)
Bow Olympus (50 STR, 105 DEX) Asianic Bow (60 STR, 125 DEX) Hinkel bows (70 STR, 145 DEX)
Crossbow Rower (40 STR, 105 DEX) Golden Crow (50 STR, 125 DEX) Gross Jaeger (60 STR, 145 DEX)
Dagger Sai (45 STR, 100 LUK) or Shinkita (45 DEX, 100 LUK) Deadly Fin (55 DEX, 120 LUK) or Serpent's Coil (55 STR, 120 LUK) Kandine (65 DEX, 140 LUK) or Golden River (65 STR, 140 LUK)
Claw Slain claws (50 DEX, 105 LUK) Gigantic claws (60 DEX, 125 LUK) Scarab claws (70 DEX, 145 LUK)

Staves also exist at 45 (Arc Staff), 55 (Thorns), and 65 (Evil Wings). Our AP build guide turns these requirements into point targets.

Example: a Hunter wants the level 60 Asianic Bow. That's 60 STR and 125 DEX. If your hat and gloves add 6 DEX, you need 119 base DEX. Plan your STR so it reaches 60 by level 60 and stops there.

Decide what to scroll

The wiki's Equipment page lists four scroll tiers. Lesser always works. Intermediate works 60% of the time, and Greater and Chaos 10%. A failed Chaos scroll destroys the item half the time. Scroll the pieces you'll keep longest, such as a level 30 or 35 weapon you'll use for ten levels, and gloves, which every job keeps for a long time. Don't scroll a level 20 piece you'll replace at 25. Our scrolling guide works through the expected gains by tier.

Avoid five common gear mistakes

  1. Buying armor on Maple Island. Every wiki gear guide says to save your mesos.
  2. Buying a weapon the training map drops. The Triple-Tipped Zamadar, Iron Dagger, Ryden, and Eagle Crow all drop on maps you'll train on anyway.
  3. Putting all your AP into your main stat. Then you can't wear the next weapon. Check its requirement five levels early.
  4. Selling Citizenship earrings. You can't. The wiki's Trade page lists the Henesys and Kerning City earrings and the starter weapons among the few untradeable items. Almost everything else trades.
  5. Planning around Orbis or El Nath gear. Those towns aren't in the launch build.

If you're returning, boosted, or making an alt

  • Returning from pre-Big Bang MapleStory? The shop ladders will feel familiar. Crafting is new, though. The original game had no player crafting, and here it makes gloves, shoes, and most weapons from level 35 (wiki Differences page). Learn at least the one profession that covers your job's gloves.
  • Powerleveled or boosted to 30 or higher? You'll probably arrive with shop gear or none. Check your stats against the level 30 and 35 requirements first, then buy or craft your weapon before armor. Our powerleveling page explains what that service covers. It doesn't include gear unless an order says so.
  • Making an alt? Storage is shared by every character on your account, so a main can pass level 30 drops to an alt. Do this before you sell gear to an NPC.

If you would rather not grind this part yourself, MapleStory Classic powerleveling services are listed on FullBoosts. Read Nexon's Terms of Service before you buy any service from anyone, FullBoosts included — a marketplace listing isn't publisher permission.

What may change at Grand Launch

This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.

FAQ

What gear should I buy first in MapleStory Classic?

Your weapon. It decides your kill speed, and the shops sell every job's weapon ladder up to level 25 at launch (NiaMeowDB). Buy armor only when your current pieces are clearly too weak or you need the stats.

Where do you get gear after level 30 in MapleStory Classic World?

From monster drops and crafting. The town shops stop at level 25 at launch, per NiaMeowDB's launch shop lists. The wiki says 30. Curse Eyes, Fire Boars, Jr. Wraiths, and Zombie Mushrooms drop much of the 35 to 40 armor. Weaponcrafting, Arcforge, and Woodcrafting make most weapons from 35.

Can you buy gloves from NPC shops in MapleStory Classic?

No. The wiki says gloves are never sold in shops. They're crafted at every tier: Smithing for warriors, Tailoring for magicians, and Leatherworking for bowmen and thieves. A few drop, such as the Lemona from Slimes.

Wand or staff for a Magician in Classic World?

A wand, for most levels. The wiki says the staff ladder stops at level 25 in this range, while wands continue to 40, and wands have more magic attack than same-level staves.

What is the best level 30 weapon for a Bowman?

The Ryden bow or the Eagle Crow crossbow. Wild Boars drop both, and Woodcrafting 6 can make them. The wiki notes the drop often comes before you reach the level requirement.

Does equipment have stat requirements in MapleStory Classic?

Yes. The wiki's Equipment page lists three kinds of restriction: a minimum level, minimum stats (most weapons ask for a main and a secondary stat), and a job branch. The item tooltip shows all three before you buy.
