The Mark of the Beta is the event hat from "[Event] The Marks We Leave Behind", the treasure hunt Jay runs in Henesys until November 18, 2026. This MapleStory Classic Mark of the Beta guide gives every Adventurer's Journal clue in order, the exact hidden spot for each page, a route with cab fares, the hat's stats after its October 21 change, and how the once-per-account rule affects your alts.
Quick summary
- Jay in Henesys starts the chain for characters level 25 and up. It runs from October 21 at 00:00 UTC to November 18 at 23:59 UTC, 2026 (Nexon's Grand Launch release notes).
- You don't kill anything. Each page is a hidden spot where you press Up, or an NPC: The Pig Beach, Someone Else's House, Marr's Forest, Mong from Kong in Kerning City, The Land of Wild Boar II and Ant Tunnel Park (NiaMeowDB, MapleClassic Wiki).
- The only fixed cost is 10 mesos for Mong from Kong. Cabs are optional; at level 25 a Regular Cab between towns costs 1,000 to 1,200 mesos (MapleClassic Wiki).
- The reward is a level 25 hat: +1 STR, DEX, INT and LUK, +24 Weapon DEF and 7 upgrade slots, after an October 21 fix raised its DEF from 15 (NiaMeowDB).
- Once per account. When one character finishes, the event shows as completed on your others. The hat can't be traded to other players but moves between your own characters through storage (NiaMeowDB).

Follow the walkthrough page by page
Start: talk to Jay in Henesys
Talk to Jay in Henesys to accept [Event] The Marks We Leave Behind and get the Adventurer's Journal. Double-click it in your Use tab to start The First Mark. Our Henesys guide shows where Jay stands.
Step 1: The Pig Beach (Page 2)
The "little snouts" are pigs.
- Leave Henesys from the left. Walk through Henesys Hunting Ground I, A Hill West of Henesys and Forest West of Henesys to 3-Way Road-Split, the road between Lith Harbor and Henesys.
- On 3-Way Road-Split, stand in the flowers on a platform left of center and press Up. It's a hidden portal to The Pig Beach.
- In The Pig Beach, go to the lower ground on the left, between the trees just right of the tall cliff, and press Up (NiaMeowDB).
You get Page 2. Double-click it to start The Second Mark. The map itself is covered in our Henesys fields guide.
Step 2: Someone Else's House (Page 3)
"A stranger's roof" is the Mushmom's house.
- Go back to Henesys and take the left portal into An Empty House.
- Go through Pig Park to Pig Park II, then take the top right portal into Someone Else's House, the hidden map behind it.
- Walk up to the door of the mushroom house and press Up.
The Mushmom and its Iron Hogs spawn here. You don't need to fight either, but don't stand in their path at level 25. Our Mushmom guide covers the boss if you want the kill. You get Page 3.
Step 3: Marr's Forest (Page 4)
- Go to Ellinia.
- Take the bottom right portal into Marr's Forest, the map where Mar the Fairy stands.
- Go to the right end of the lowest platform in the bottom right corner and press Up (NiaMeowDB).
You get Page 4.
Step 4: Mong from Kong (Page 5)
"Where shadows gather" means the thieves' town.
- Go to Kerning City.
- Find Mong from Kong just right of the Kerning City Pharmacy and pay him 10 mesos (NiaMeowDB).
You get Page 5. This is the only step with an NPC turn-in. Our Kerning City guide maps the town.
Step 5: The Land of Wild Boar II (Page 6)
"The wild ones" are boars.
- Go back to Ellinia, then walk left through The Field Up North of Ellinia, The Tree That Grew I and The Forest North of Ellinia to East Domain of Perion.
- You arrive at the bottom. Climb to the very top right of the map and take the hidden portal to The Land of Wild Boar II.
- Find the second small stepping stone from the left, just before the rope, and press Up (NiaMeowDB).
You don't need to fight the Wild Boars. The East Domain route is also in our Rocky Mountain guide.
Step 6: Ant Tunnel Park (Mark of the Beta)
"Beneath the earth" is the Ant Tunnel.
- Go to Sleepywood and walk down through Ant Tunnel I–IV, Dark Cave, Dangerous Steam and Deep Ant Tunnel I–II to Ant Tunnel Park. The VIP Cab from Lith Harbor or Ellinia drops you right there for 10,000 mesos, but it has no ride back (MapleClassic Wiki).
- Climb to the upper right, just below and right of the portal to The Grave of Mushmom, and press Up (NiaMeowDB).
You get the Mark of the Beta, and The Final Mark is complete. Our Sleepywood guide maps the whole Ant Tunnel.
Plan the fastest route
The pages force a set order, so the only choice is walking or taking cabs. Fares are for level 20 and up, from the MapleClassic Wiki table in our travel guide:
| Leg | From → to | Travel | Cab fare at Lv 25 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Henesys → The Pig Beach | Walk, 4 maps plus a hidden portal | – |
| 2 | The Pig Beach → Someone Else's House | Walk back to Henesys, then 3 maps | – |
| 3 | Henesys → Marr's Forest | Cab to Ellinia or walk | 1,000 |
| 4 | Ellinia → Kerning City | Cab or walk; bring 10 mesos | 1,200 (Kerning to Ellinia listed) |
| 5 | Kerning City → The Land of Wild Boar II | Cab to Ellinia, then walk 4 maps plus a hidden portal | 1,200 |
| 6 | → Ant Tunnel Park | Walk to Sleepywood and down, or VIP Cab | 10,000 (VIP) |
Henesys and Kerning City citizens get a small cab discount (Nexon); our citizenship guide explains the grades.
Example: a level 27 Archer does legs 1 and 2 on foot, then cabs Henesys to Ellinia, Ellinia to Kerning City and back to Ellinia. That's about 3,400 mesos in fares by the wiki's table. She walks to East Domain of Perion for Page 6 and then down through Sleepywood to Ant Tunnel Park, saving the 10,000-meso VIP Cab.
Know what the Mark of the Beta gives
| Stat | Value (NiaMeowDB, after the October 21 patch) |
|---|---|
| Slot | Hat, any job, male and female |
| Required level | 25 |
| Stats | +1 STR, DEX, INT and LUK |
| Weapon DEF | +24 (was 15 before the October 21 patch) |
| Upgrade slots | 7 |
| Trading | Untradeable; moves between your own characters through storage |
| NPC sell price | 1,500 mesos |
NiaMeowDB's change history records the October 21 patch raising Weapon DEF from 15 to 24 and adding the level 25 requirement. Players who finished the chain before the fix kept a 15-DEF copy; only new owners get 24. Check your tooltip if you finished on launch day.
Hat scrolls add Accuracy, HP or MP. With 7 slots, a run of Lesser Accuracy scrolls (always succeed, +1 each) gives a free +7 Accuracy hat at level 25, and Lesser Hat Accuracy scrolls cost 20,000 mesos at Tulcus in the Kerning swamp (NiaMeowDB). Our hats guide compares it with other level 25 hats, and our Kerning Swamp guide shows where Tulcus stands. Don't sell it by accident: the 1,500-meso sell price is high for a hat, and the event won't run again for that account.
Fix a page that won't trigger
- Nothing happens when you press Up. Hidden spots are small. Move a step left or right and try again.
- The next quest didn't start. You need to double-click the new page in your Use tab. Picking it up isn't enough.
- No room for the page. Free a Use slot. The page goes to the Use tab.
- Mong from Kong won't take the quest. Check that you have at least 10 mesos.
- You can't find the Land of Wild Boar II portal. It's at the very top right of East Domain of Perion, not at the bottom where you arrive.
- Jay says the quest is complete on a new character. Another character on your account already finished it. The event is once per account (NiaMeowDB).
If you're returning, boosted, or on an alt
- Returning players: the clue maps are classic Victoria Island locations, but the hidden spots are new to this event.
- Characters who reached 25 quickly: the event only needs level 25 and has no combat, so any character can do it.
- Alts: pick which character runs it, because the chain is once per account. The finished hat can still move to another of your characters through storage, so run it on whoever reaches 25 first and pass it on.

What changed for the Mark of the Beta at Grand Launch
The event opened with Grand Launch v1.0.0. Nexon's release notes list it alongside The Journey Begins check-in, and both run until November 18, 2026. Three things changed in the first week:
| Change | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Event window confirmed | October 21, 00:00 UTC to November 18, 23:59 UTC, so it opened the evening of October 20 in the Americas | Nexon |
| Hat stats fixed | Weapon DEF 15 → 24, sell price 1,000 → 1,500 mesos, level 25 requirement added | NiaMeowDB change history |
| Once per account | Finishing on one character completes it for the account | NiaMeowDB |
Other launch events run alongside it: The Journey Begins check-in with Maple Administrator (level 10+) and, from October 28, Malady's Halloween candy quest; see our Halloween event guide. The next event on the roadmap is the Moon Bunny's Rice Cake party quest in November; see our Moon Bunny guide. The MapleStory Classic hub lists every guide for the game.
