Early meso farming in MapleStory Classic is mostly about which drops other players will pay for, because NPCs pay only a few mesos per item at this level. This MapleStory Classic meso farming guide for levels 10–30 ranks 14 monsters by value per 1,000 kills, shows which drops to sell to players and which to keep, picks a map for each level, and explains how the Grand Launch potion-drop buff and new-account trade lock change the math.
Quick summary
- Ribbon Pig is the best item-value monster under level 20, on paper. By our math it's worth about 21,800 mesos per 1,000 kills if you sell Pig's Ribbons and Stiff Feathers to players. At NPC prices, it's about 5,100.
- From 20 to 30, Wild Boar, Jr. Necki and Stirge lead, at about 20,100, 17,400 and 15,700 mesos per 1,000 kills with Free Market sales (our calculation). The gain comes from Leather, Jr. Necki Skin and Stiff Feather.
- NPC values climb with monster level. Each main etc drop sells to an NPC for roughly the monster's level in mesos (maplestory.quest item pages), so faster kills on higher monsters win at the NPC.
- Pan Lid and Work Gloves are lottery tickets. Their reference rates are 0.005% and 0.01%. The Pan Lid's October 15 median of 49,999 mesos only adds about 2,500 mesos per 1,000 Green Mushrooms.
- Keep 30 of each low-grade etc item. Citizenship donations ask for them (mapleclassic.wiki).

Rank 14 monsters by value per 1,000 kills
Our calculation: each etc and ore drop's OSMLib rate times its price, added up and multiplied by 1,000. Potions and equipment are left out. The Free Market column uses October 15 medians where an item had one, and NPC prices otherwise.

| Evil Eye | 27 | 606 | 50 | ~11,300 | ~11,800 | Sapphire Ore |
| Iron Hog | 28 | 572 | 52 | ~11,800 | ~12,700 | Sapphire Ore |
Three takeaways:
- Pig's Ribbon is the surprise. It drops at 40%, and its 30-meso median is three times the 10-meso NPC price. With 733 sold by October 15 (maplestory-classic.com), it's liquid.
- The Free Market winners all drop crafting inputs. Leather, Stiff Feather and Jr. Necki Skin feed Leatherworking (maplestory.quest).
- Mushrooms are NPC monsters. Horny and Zombie Mushroom caps barely beat their NPC price on the Free Market. The Horny Mushroom Cap median was 19 mesos, down 44%, against 22 at the NPC.

Know the lottery drops
| Item | Monster | OSMLib rate | Kills per drop (average) | Oct 15 median | Expected per 1,000 kills (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pan Lid | Green Mushroom | 0.005% | ~20,000 | 49,999 | ~2,500 |
| Work Gloves | Stirge | 0.01% | ~10,000 | 1,999 | ~200 |
| Weighted Earrings | Wild Boar, Zombie Mushroom | 0.1% / 0.01% | ~1,000 / ~10,000 | Not in the top listings | — |
| Ryden | Stirge | 0.004% | ~25,000 | Not in the top listings | — |
maplestory.quest calls the Pan Lid "probably the first monster in the game with a recognizable jackpot item." It describes the Classic World version as level 10, 7 upgrade slots, usable by anyone, with 44 Weapon Defense. It expects the Pan Lid to go from rare trophy to starter shield to collector's item, not to hold a multi-million price. The October 15 median was up 89%, which is a launch-hype price. Price-check one before you sell.
Sell to players or to NPCs
| Item | NPC price | Free Market median, Oct 15 | Sell where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leather | 10 | 200 | Free Market |
| Stiff Feather | 10 | 129 | Free Market |
| Pig's Ribbon | 10 | 30 | Free Market, or keep 30 for Kerning donations |
| Jr. Necki Skin | 21 | 40 (down 43%) | Free Market while it holds |
| Horny Mushroom Cap | 22 | 19 (down 44%) | NPC |
| Iron Ore | 20 | 500 | Free Market |
| Mithril Ore | 40 | 350 | Free Market |
| Bronze Ore | 20 | 149 | Free Market |
| Sapphire / Amethyst Ore | 120 / 200 | 299 / 299 | Free Market for Sapphire; either for Amethyst |
| Adamantium Ore | 60 | 150 (down 40%) | Either |
| Other main etc drops (caps, wings, teeth) | 8–28 | Not in the top listings | NPC, after donation stock |
NPC prices: maplestory.quest. Medians: maplestory-classic.com. Listing tips are in our Free Market guide. The two biggest drops between the market median and its earlier price were Garnet Ore (down 52%) and Horny Mushroom Cap (down 44%). Founder's Access prices are falling, so sell crafting stacks early.
Feed the crafters
These numbers show why players buy these drops (maplestory.quest, from client recipes):
- 5 Leather → 1 Processed Leather. Processed Leather "feeds a huge number of crafting recipes."
- 10 Jr. Necki Skin → Processed Leather at Leatherworking level 4.
- Stirge Wings: Black Duo takes 15 with Processed Leather and a Spool of Thread. Dark Mischief takes 20.
- Green Mushroom Caps: 6 quests need them, and so do Leatherworking recipes such as Green Diros and Green Marker.
- Leather has a second buyer. Arcforge's Processed Parchment takes 3 Leather each, and Nella's Chris's Request (level 22) asks for 20 (NiaMeowDB).
If you level Leatherworking yourself, keep these drops and skip the sale. See our Leatherworking guide for every recipe that uses them, and our crafting guide for the other five crafts.
Pick a map by level
| Level | Monster | Map (maplestory.quest counts) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10–16 | Ribbon Pig, Green Mushroom | Henesys hunting grounds; see our Henesys fields guide | Ribbon Pig for mesos, Green Mushroom for the Pan Lid |
| 17–23 | Stirge | Transfer Area (38), Dangerous Steam (38), Dark Cave (35) | Fliers; out of reach for some melee swings (NiaMeowDB). Transfer Area is in our Kerning Subway guide |
| 20–27 | Jr. Necki | Dangerous Croko I (27), Dangerous Croko II (21), Swamp of Despair III (19) | Crafting material farm; see our Kerning Swamp guide |
| 20–30 | Zombie Mushroom | Ant Tunnel III | Undead and Holy-weak; Clerics clear it fastest. See our Sleepywood guide |
| 22–30 | Horny Mushroom | Ant Tunnel IV (41) | Dense spawns, NPC-value drops |
| 25–35 | Wild Boar | Land of Wild Boar II (23), Land of Wild Boar (22) | Leather and feathers |
For EXP-first routes, see our training guide. Our party grinding guide explains why map capacity matters more than spawn points.
Stockpile for citizenship donations
Each weekly donation asks for 30 of one monster drop (mapleclassic.wiki). Low grades want exactly the drops in this level band. From our citizenship guide:
| Grade | Henesys items | Kerning City items | Contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Snail shells, mushroom caps, Squishy Liquid, Mushroom Spore | Red Snail Shell, Orange Mushroom Cap, Leaf, Pig's Ribbon, Octopus Leg, Bubbling's Huge Bubble | 700 |
| 2 | Blue Mushroom Cap | Firewood | 875 |
| 3 | Horny Mushroom Cap, Charm of the Undead, Wild Boar Tooth | Stirge Wing, Charm of the Undead, Wild Boar Tooth | 1,050 |
| 4 | Evil Eye Tail | Evil Eye Tail | 1,225 |
Our calculation: 30 Wild Boar Teeth are worth 750 mesos at an NPC. As a donation, they pay 1,050 contribution toward grade 4, which unlocks town-shop discounts. Keep 30 of each.
Compare farming plans
| Plan | Mesos per 1,000 kills (ours) | Speed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ribbon Pigs, sell ribbons and feathers to players | ~21,800 | Fast kills from 10 | First characters at launch |
| Wild Boar, sell Leather and feathers | ~20,100 | Slower kills (510 HP) | 25–30 with a strong weapon |
| Jr. Necki, sell skins to crafters | ~17,400 | Fast (272 HP) | 21–27, while skin prices hold |
| Stirge, sell feathers; keep potion drops | ~15,700 plus potions | Very fast EXP (8.00 HP per EXP, 3rd best in the game, per NiaMeowDB) | Leveling and earning together |
| Mushrooms at Ant Tunnel, all to NPC | ~9,000–11,000 | Dense | AFK-light, Clerics on Zombies |
| Green Mushroom Pan Lid hunt | ~6,400 plus a ~1-in-20,000 roll | Medium | Collectors |
Match the monster to your job
| Job | Best early farm | Why (source) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior, Bowman, Thief | Stirge | Zero physical defense, so physical hits land at full damage (NiaMeowDB) |
| Magician | Jr. Necki, Ribbon Pig | Low HP, quick kills with Energy Bolt or Magic Claw (our judgment) |
| Cleric (from 30) | Zombie Mushroom | Undead and Holy-weak (maplestory.quest) |
| Bowman | Wild Boar | Ranged attacks avoid touch damage on a 510-HP target (our judgment) |
Running costs vary a lot by job. Our class costs guide has the potion math.
Alts and returning players
- Alts: your second character starts at zero too. Run Ribbon Pigs to fund potions, and pass extra Leather to your main's crafter.
- Returning players: don't price from memory. Old pre-Big Bang drops like the Pan Lid have new demand from nostalgia, and Leather now feeds Classic World's crafting professions (maplestory.quest).
- Players who skipped these levels: buying Leather and feathers from the Free Market is how you'd level Leatherworking. Our 30–45 meso farming guide covers the next band.
- Brand-new players: our launch day leveling plan shows the 1–35 route these monsters sit on.

What changed for early meso farming at Grand Launch
Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) did not change drop tables for these monsters, but four changes in Nexon's maintenance notes and release notes change what you keep:
| Change | Effect on levels 10–30 |
|---|---|
| Higher potion drop rate for monsters Lv 10–30 | Covers every monster in the ranking from Ribbon Pig up. You buy fewer potions, so more of each 1,000 kills is profit |
| New-account trade lock | A new account can't trade until 24 hours after a character reaches Lv 15. Until then, every column above is "NPC only" |
| Debt System (October 22) | Accounts tied to real-money trading owe their mesos back and can't trade, open shops or drop items until it's repaid |
| More Free Market rooms (12–20) and 40 channels | Easier to find a spot for a Store Permit shop |
The Halloween event adds one more early source from October 28 to November 18: Orange Slimes (Lv 20) in Henesys, Ellinia, Kerning City and Perion drop Red, Blue and Green Malady's Candy, which are tradable and permanent (Nexon). Their Halloween Candies can't be traded; see our Halloween event guide.
The October 15 medians above come from the Founder's Access market, before free players arrived. Check current prices with NiaMeowDB's Free Market tracker before you list. The MapleStory Classic hub lists every guide for the game.
FAQ
What's the best way to make mesos early in MapleStory Classic? Ribbon Pigs from level 10, then Stirge, Jr. Necki or Wild Boar from 20. Sell Leather, Stiff Feathers and skins to players. By our math that's about 15,000–22,000 mesos per 1,000 kills.
What does Stirge drop in MapleStory Classic? Stirge Wing at 40%, Blue and Orange Potions at 5%, Stiff Feather at 4%, ores, and rarely Work Gloves (0.01%). These are reference rates on NiaMeowDB.
What drops the Pan Lid? Green Mushroom, at a 0.005% reference rate, or about 1 in 20,000 kills (NiaMeowDB). Its October 15 median was 49,999 mesos (maplestory-classic.com).
Should I sell Jr. Necki Skins to NPCs? No. They sold for about 40 mesos on the Free Market on October 15, against 21 at an NPC. Leatherworking turns 10 of them into Processed Leather (maplestory.quest).
Are mushroom caps worth selling on the Free Market? Usually not. The Horny Mushroom Cap median (19) was below its NPC price (22). Keep 30 for citizenship donations and sell the rest to an NPC.
How accurate are these drop rates? They're OSMLib reference rates. NiaMeowDB says they may not match Classic World. Treat the values as estimates until players confirm the drops.
Can a new account sell drops on the Free Market? Not at first. Trading opens 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15 (Nexon), so sell to NPCs or keep your stacks until then.
