THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • Your inventory has five tabs: Equip, Use, Set-up, Etc and Cash. Each tab has its own slots. A full Etc tab doesn't stop you picking up a sword (MapleClassic Wiki, Inventory).
  • Equip fills first, because equipment never stacks. Every one of the 1,260 equips on the wiki takes its own slot. Monster drops stack to 200, so drops cost slots by type, not by count.
  • Storage is shared by every character on your account. Seven Storage Keepers cover the launch map. The Henesys one stands in Henesys Park, not in town, and Maple Island has none (wiki, Storage).
  • Depositing costs a base 100 mesos per slot. Citizenship cuts it by 5% a grade, down to 50 mesos at Citizen of Honor in your citizenship town (NiaMeowDB, from second closed-test data).
  • Storage starts at 50 slots and Storage Room coupons (Cash Shop) take it to 150 (wiki).

Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.

Learn the five inventory tabs

Tab What goes in it (wiki) Starting slots Expandable
Equip Weapons, armor, shields, accessories 24 Yes, Equip Tab 5-slot Coupon
Use Potions, food, scrolls, arrows, throwing stars, summoning sacks 24 Yes, Use Tab 5-slot Coupon
Set-up Chairs and other placed items 12 Yes, Set Up Tab 5-Slot Coupon
Etc Monster drops, quest items, ores, gems, crafting materials 24 Yes, Etc Tab 5-Slot Coupon
Cash Cash items and pets Not stated No coupon in the client

The starting counts come from the wiki's Setup item and Etc item pages. Its main Inventory page says the client doesn't settle the starting count, so treat 24 and 12 as the wiki's reading, not client data. Every coupon adds 5 slots and states the same ceiling of 150. The coupons are cash items, and the wiki says cash prices aren't in the client data. Mesos take no slot at all.

You can't choose the tab. The item's category decides it. So an Etc tab full of Fire Boar drops won't block a potion, but it will block every new ore.

Know what stacks and how far

Stacks to Items (wiki, Inventory) What it means for you
1 All equipment, plus chairs, pets and one-off quest items One slot per piece. This is why Equip fills first.
1,000 Arrows for Bows, Arrows for Crossbows, Tobi Throwing Stars, Steely Throwing Knives A full quiver is one slot
800 The other ordinary arrows and throwing stars One slot
700 Kumbi and Mokbi Throwing Stars One slot
500 Subi and Wolbi Throwing Stars One slot
200 All 148 catalogued monster drops, plus buff items and potions A long session costs slots by drop type
100 Crafting materials, summoning sacks, EXP coupons, event items Ores and ingots fill faster than drops

The wiki adds that the client sets a limit for 244 items and leaves the rest on a default. So this table is what the game files say, not a full list. Two things follow. Ammo is cheap on space, and a crafting route that collects five ore types takes five Etc slots before you've made anything.

Find the Storage Keeper in each town

NPC Where (wiki) Notes
Mr. Kim Lith Harbor The first keeper you can reach after Maple Island
Mr. Lee Henesys Park Not in Henesys itself. The wiki calls this out because it catches people.
Mr. Park Ellinia
Mr. Hong Kerning City Kerning citizens get the resident discount here
Mr. Wang Perion
Mr. Oh Sleepywood Useful for Ant Tunnel and Sleepy Dungeon trips
Scrooge Free Market Entrance Store sales and stock between shop sessions

Maple Island has no Storage Keeper, so your first deposit waits until you sail to Victoria Island. The wiki lists two more keepers, Trina in Orbis and Mr. Thalj in El Nath, but Ossyria isn't in the launch build. Our Free Market guide covers selling from the Free Market and its storage use.

Pay less to store items

The wiki puts the base fee at 100 mesos per slot. A stack counts as one slot, so 50 apples cost the same 100 mesos as one sword. NiaMeowDB's citizenship page gives a storage discount of 5% per grade in your active citizenship town:

Grade Name Level Storage discount Fee per item
1 Traveler 12 5% 95 mesos
3 Helpful Stranger 22 15% 85 mesos
5 Town Resident 32 25% 75 mesos
7 Distinguished Citizen 42 35% 65 mesos
10 Citizen of Honor 57 50% 50 mesos

That's a separate schedule from the 5% to 25% citizen discount on shops and cabs. It only applies at the keeper in your citizenship town: Mr. Lee for Henesys citizens and Mr. Hong for Kerning City citizens (wiki, NiaMeowDB). NiaMeowDB says the storage fee is still COT2 data.

Example: you move 20 slots of gear and potions to an alt. At the base fee, that's 20 × 100 = 2,000 mesos. As a grade 5 Kerning citizen depositing at Mr. Hong, it's 20 × 75 = 1,500 mesos. If withdrawals cost a fee too, double both numbers. Either way, it's small next to a stack of potions. Our citizenship guide covers how to climb grades.

Decide what to carry, store and sell

Item Carry, store or sell Why
Potions and ammo Carry They stack to 200 or more, so they're cheap on space. Our potions guide covers which ones.
Your next weapon or armor upgrade Store It'll take an Equip slot for levels. Keep it at the keeper nearest your next training map.
Low-level shop gear Sell to an NPC Shops sell it, so there's no reason to keep a slot for it
Ores, gems and crafting materials Store if you craft, sell if you don't They stack to 100, so they fill Etc fast. Our crafting guide lists what each profession uses.
Quest items you'll turn in soon Carry Many don't stack, so keep them only until you turn them in
Scrolls Store until you use them Use slots are better spent on potions
Gear for an alt Store Storage is account-wide, so the alt can pick it up in any town

Before a long session, do a quick check: empty Equip down to the gear you'll wear, carry potions and ammo, and leave at least five Etc slots per drop type you plan to farm. A pet with item pickup fills your bag faster, so plan for that too. Our pets guide covers pickup range.

Compare ways to get more space

Method Space gained Cost Best for
Sell junk to NPCs Frees slots Nothing, and you earn mesos Every trip to town
Use storage 50 base, up to 150 with Storage Room coupons 50 to 100 mesos per deposit Gear and materials you'll need later
Make a mule character A whole second inventory Character slot and time Crafters and Free Market sellers
Slot coupons 5 slots per coupon, up to 150 per tab Cash Shop item Players who want fewer town trips

A coupon is the only way to raise the ceiling, and it's a cash purchase. Mules and storage cover most players. A Reddit thread on r/MSClassicWorld argued that slots should be expandable through play, not only through the Cash Shop. That was a player proposal, not a change Nexon has made.

Set up a mule for an alt

  1. Pick the keeper you visit most. For most players that's Mr. Lee in Henesys Park or Mr. Hong in Kerning City. Your citizenship discount only works in your citizenship town.
  2. Deposit on your main. Gear, scrolls, spare potions and materials.
  3. Log in on the alt and withdraw. Storage is shared across your account, and items can come out in a different town from where they went in (wiki).
  4. Keep mesos in mind. Storage can hold mesos, and the wiki's Meso page caps a character at 2,147,483,647 mesos. Few players will reach it, but storage lets you move mesos between your characters without a trade.

If you're returning, boosted, or on an alt

  • Returning from old MapleStory? The five tabs are the same, but crafting adds ores and materials that stack to 100. Your Etc tab will fill faster than it did in 2005. And remember the Henesys keeper is in Henesys Park.
  • Powerleveled or boosted? You may arrive with a full Equip tab of drops. Sell the shop items first, then store anything with useful stats for an alt. Our powerleveling page explains what that service covers.
  • Making an alt? Store the alt's next weapon on your main before you make it. The alt can pick it up the moment it reaches Victoria Island. Our mesos guide covers funding alts.

Want a hand with this?

If you would rather skip the grind that goes with this, MapleStory Classic powerleveling services are listed on FullBoosts. Read Nexon's Terms of Service before you buy any service from anyone, FullBoosts included — a marketplace listing isn't publisher permission.

What may change at Grand Launch

This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.

In Henesys Park, not in Henesys itself. The keeper is Mr. Lee. The MapleClassic Wiki points this out because it catches new players.

How many inventory slots do you start with?

The wiki's Setup and Etc item pages say 24 for Equip, Use and Etc, and 12 for Set-up. Its Inventory page notes the server sets the starting count.
