MapleStory Classic Potions Guide: Best HP/MP Value, Elixirs, Buffs
MapleStory Classic potions guide: all NPC potions ranked by HP and MP per meso, when to size up, Elixir cooldowns and limits, buff drinks.

In this guide 16 sections
Quick summary
- Best HP value: Apple, Egg, Red Potion, Fried Chicken, and Meat are tied at 2 HP per meso. Nothing beats them (NiaMeowDB, the wiki).
- Best MP value: Orange and Lemon, at 1 MP per meso. That's half the value of the best HP items.
- Best for both: Cake gives 1.333 HP+MP per meso, followed by Mrs. Ming Ming's Stew and Andre's Seafood Soup at 1.25 (NiaMeowDB).
- Elixirs restore a percentage of your max HP and MP, but they share a 30-second cooldown. The shop sells only 100 per character, and that stock doesn't refill (NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg, the wiki).
- Size up only for convenience. The wiki says big potions buy "convenience," not value. Metaroad suggests switching once your max HP passes roughly 600–800.
Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.
Buy the cheapest HP per meso
| Item | HP | Price (mesos) | HP per meso | Sold by (NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple | 40 | 20 | 2.000 | General stores |
| Egg | 60 | 30 | 2.000 | General stores |
| Red Potion | 100 | 50 | 2.000 | General stores |
| Fried Chicken | 120 | 60 | 2.000 | Raymond, Max, Valen |
| Meat | 160 | 80 | 2.000 | General stores |
| Orange Potion | 250 | 150 | 1.667 | General stores |
| Hot Dog / Dried Squid | 300 | 180 | 1.667 | Raymond / Max |
| White Potion | 500 | 350 | 1.429 | General stores |
| Hamburger | 500 | 350 | 1.429 | Raymond, Max (Town Resident+) |
| Unagi | 1,000 | 1,000 | 1.000 | Raymond, Max (Town Patron+) |
The wiki: "a Red Potion is four times more efficient than a Reindeer Milk despite restoring a twenty-fifth as much." NiaMeowDB lists Reindeer Milk and Melting Cheese as "not open in this release."
Buy MP the cheap way
| Item | MP | Price | MP per meso (NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orange | 50 | 50 | 1.000 |
| Lemon | 150 | 150 | 1.000 |
| Blue Potion | 200 | 220 | 0.909 |
| Salad | 200 | 220 | 0.909 (Visitor+) |
| Orange Juice | 450 | 540 | 0.833 (Trusted Neighbor+) |
| Pure Water | 800 | 1,120 | 0.714 |
| Grape Juice | 900 | 1,260 | 0.714 |
The wiki: "MP is simply worse value than HP throughout." That's why NiaMeowDB's Magician guide keeps Magic Guard low by default: Guard turns HP damage into MP damage, which costs about twice as much to refill. Details are in our Magician guide.
Use dual-restore food for both bars
| Item | HP + MP | Price | Per meso (NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cake | 100 + 100 | 150 | 1.333 |
| Mrs. Ming Ming's Stew | 300 + 300 | 480 | 1.250 (Raymond, Trusted Neighbor+) |
| Andre's Seafood Soup | 300 + 300 | 480 | 1.250 (Max, Trusted Neighbor+) |
| Watermelon | 800 + 800 | 1,920 | 0.833 |
NiaMeowDB notes that dual-restore items rank low on a single stat but "can still be the better buy when you need both." Example: a Warrior casting Slash Blast spends HP and MP on every cast. Cake refills a bit of both in one slot.
Know the elixirs and their limits
| Item | Restores | Notes (sources) |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir | 35% HP and MP | 3,000 mesos from Max or Raymond at Citizen of Honor; 100 per character, no refill (NiaMeowDB COT2 listing, the wiki) |
| Power Elixir | 100% HP and MP | Shares the Elixir cooldown (NiaMeowDB) |
| Mana Elixir | 50% MP | Shares the Elixir cooldown |
| W Ramen | 40% HP and MP | The wiki calls it "the quiet bargain"; no buy price is listed |
- Cooldown: 30 seconds, shared by Elixir, Power Elixir, and Mana Elixir (NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg). Don't count on chaining them.
- Free Elixirs: quests like Chief Stan's Signature (level 28) and Jane's First Challenge (level 44) give 10 each (the wiki, henesys.gg). See our quests guide.
- Drops: NiaMeowDB lists pre-Big Bang MapleSEA drop sources such as Iron Hogs and Ligators as "historical reference," not confirmed Classic drops.
Because elixirs restore a percentage, they're worth more as your pools grow. The wiki says they "scale with the character instead of against them."
Use buff drinks at the right moment
| Drink | Effect | Duration (the wiki) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior / Magic Potion | +10 weapon or magic attack | 10 min |
| Sniper Potion | +5 accuracy | 10 min |
| Supreme Sniper Potion | +7 accuracy | 15 min |
| Dexterity / Supreme Dexterity | +5 / +7 avoidability | 10 / 15 min |
| Speed Potion | +8 speed | 10 min |
| Drake's Blood / Sap of Ancient Tree | +12 weapon or magic attack (wiki; NiaMeowDB lists +8 for Drake's Blood) | 5 min |
| Cider | +15 weapon attack, −5 accuracy | 5 min |
The wiki's advice: the Warrior Potion "lasts twice as long as Drake's Blood for less money," so save the shorter, stronger drinks for fights. NiaMeowDB's class guides use Sniper Potions only to "fix a small hit-rate gap." Metaroad notes that buff drinks also drop from monsters and come from quests.
Know when to size up
Metaroad's rule of thumb: "re-evaluate your potion tier every time your max HP roughly doubles."
| Your max HP | Practical pick | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Under about 600 | Red Potion, Meat | NiaMeowDB, Metaroad |
| About 600–800+ (levels 25–35, depending on class) | White Potion for fewer key presses | Metaroad (community) |
| Level 40–45+ | Hamburger or Orange Potion | Metaroad |
| Long trips far from town | Larger potions that hold more HP per inventory slot | Metaroad, the wiki |
Slot math: every potion stacks to the same cap, so "a single stack of White Potion can cover the same total HP as five stacks of Red Potion" (Metaroad). The wiki makes the same point: one Reindeer Milk does the work of 25 Red Potions in one slot.
Budget a session
Metaroad's method:
- Count the potions you use in a 15-minute test grind.
- Multiply by 4 to get an hourly rate.
- Multiply by your session length and add a 20–25% buffer.
Example: Metaroad's sample burns 15 potions in 15 minutes, about 60 an hour. A 3-hour session needs about 180–225. At NiaMeowDB's Red Potion price of 50 mesos, that's 9,000–11,250 mesos. Compare that with what the map earns using our mesos guide.
Shop by class
| Class | Main costs | Notes (our class guides, from NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | HP potions; MP for Power Strike (12 MP) | Use normal attacks to finish weak mobs. Warrior guide |
| Magician | MP first; more with Magic Guard on | Lemons and Oranges. Magician guide |
| Thief | MP plus stars (500 per stack) | 250 Lucky Seven casts use 4,000 MP. Thief guide |
| Bowman | MP plus arrows (1 meso each) | Arrow Blow uses 1 arrow and 14 MP. Bowman guide |
NiaMeowDB says arrows cost 1 meso in every town but 2 mesos at the Ant Tunnel Park 24 Hr Mobile Store. Stock up before you go deep.
Unlock citizenship items
| Item | Rank needed (NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|
| Salad | Visitor+ |
| Hamburger | Town Resident+ |
| Pizza | Recognized Guest+ |
| Stew / Seafood Soup, Orange Juice | Trusted Neighbor+ |
| Unagi | Town Patron+ |
| Grape Juice | Guardian of the Village+ |
| Elixir | Citizen of Honor+ |
Raymond is in Henesys and Max is in Kerning City. Each sells his town's version of the dual-restore soup. Our citizenship guide covers the ranks.
Compare ways to cut potion costs
| Method | Effect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Buy the 2 HP/meso tier | Lowest cost per HP | NiaMeowDB |
| Fix accuracy first | Misses still cost MP | NiaMeowDB class guides |
| Train closer to town | Shorter trips to restock | the wiki, Metaroad |
| Quest Elixirs | Free percentage heals | the wiki |
Stock ammo and pet food
| Item | Price (NiaMeowDB) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Arrows for Bows / Crossbows | 1 meso each | 2 mesos at the Ant Tunnel Park 24 Hr Mobile Store |
| Bronze Arrows | 2 mesos each | Raymond, Helpful Stranger+; +1 weapon attack (NiaMeowDB Bowman guide) |
| Subi Throwing-Stars | 500 per stack | General stores |
| Wolbi Throwing-Stars | 1,000 per stack | Max, Helpful Stranger+ |
| Pet Food | 30 | Doofus in Henesys knocks 5 mesos off; Valen charges a "beach tax" |
Avoid the common potion mistakes
- Buying White Potions at level 15. They cost 0.7 meso per HP, against 0.5 for Red Potions (NiaMeowDB class guides). With a small HP pool, you're paying more for healing you don't need.
- Using Blue Potions for MP. At 1.1 mesos per MP, they're worse than Oranges and Lemons at 1 meso (NiaMeowDB).
- Buying Rainbow-colored Snail Shells to heal. The wiki says they restore "forty times worse than a Red Potion," and calls them "a curiosity rather than a purchase."
- Drinking Drake's Blood while grinding. The wiki says to save the short, strong buffs for a fight.
- Ignoring inventory slots on long trips. Low-tier potions fill your bag faster (Metaroad).
Returning and new players
- Returning players: potion prices and efficiency follow the classic pattern, with small items as the best value (the wiki). The Elixir sell-back price dropped from 1,000 to 500 between closed tests (NiaMeowDB change history), so selling quest Elixirs earns less than it used to.
- New players: buy Red Potions and Oranges, keep accuracy at 100% on your map, and bank the difference.

What may change at Grand Launch
This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
