MapleStory Classic Etc Items: What to Keep for Quests, Crafting
MapleStory Classic Etc items keep list: which drops to save for quests and crafting, how many of each, the hard-to-replace ones, and what to sell.

Your Etc tab fills up fast in MapleStory Classic World, and most of it sells to NPCs for 1 to 50 mesos each. Some of those cheap drops are what quests and crafting recipes ask for later, sometimes 100 or more at a time. This MapleStory Classic Etc items guide turns MapleStory Quest's keep list (299 items that a live quest or recipe wants) into decisions: what to hold, how many, what's hard to farm again, and what you can sell.
Quick summary
- 299 items are wanted by a quest or recipe: 259 by live content and 40 more only by Closed Online Test 2 quests (MapleStory Quest keep list).
- Selling the whole list would earn just 245,022 mesos, so holding it costs you very little (MapleStory Quest).
- 41 items are hard to replace: only one or two monsters drop them. Examples are the Cursed Doll (570 wanted in total), Tablecloth (165) and Stone Golem Rubble (150) (MapleStory Quest).
- Crafting runs on six materials: Screws (142 recipes), Processed Leather (101), Spool of Thread (82), Iron Ingots (67), Processed Cloth (57) and Processed Wood (44) (MapleStory Quest).
- 26 items can be bought back from shops, like dyes, fruit and Pure Water, so sell those freely.
- Grand Launch added new asks: Pia's Legend of the Snail chain wants 20 each of Snail, Blue Snail and Red Snail Shells, and the Halloween quest wants 100 Halloween Candies until November 18 (NiaMeowDB, Nexon).
How the Etc keep list works
MapleStory Quest's keep list joins three things from the client. Quest rows say what they want and how many. Recipes name their ingredients. Item rows carry the NPC sell price. For each item it shows the biggest single ask, the total across everything that wants it, the lowest level that asks, and where another would come from.
| Risk label | Items | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| No known source | 210 | MapleStory Quest's drop tables don't list it. Many are crafted or given by quests |
| Hard to replace | 41 | One or two monsters drop it |
| Bought back | 26 | An NPC shop sells it |
| Farmable again | 22 | Several monsters drop it |
Fifty of the "no known source" items are handed to you by the quest that wants them (MapleStory Quest). You can ignore those.

"Donating to Henesys" and "Donating to Kerning City" are Citizenship quests (our Citizenship guide). Jr. Wraith and Wraith maps are in our Kerning subway guide, and Black Crystal comes from our Jr. Balrog guide. The quests that use the mushroom caps, Rubble and Tablecloths are walked through in our Henesys guide, Golem's Temple guide and Icarus Cape guide.
Early-level drops worth a slot
A few cheap drops from levels 1 to 20 come back in quests you'll meet soon after. Counts are from the quest tables in our Henesys Hunting Ground and L Forest guides:
| Item | Keep | Quests that ask |
|---|---|---|
| Slime Bubble | 14 | Teo's Weird Hobby (1), I Need Help on My Homework! (3), Mrs. Ming Ming's First Worry (10) |
| Mushroom Spore | 10 | The Reason Behind the Mushroom Studies (Bruce, level 10) |
| Pig's Ribbon | 20 | Mrs. Ming Ming's First Worry, then more for Maya and citizenship |
| Snail, Blue Snail and Red Snail Shells | 20 each | Snail Hunt, in Pia's Legend of the Snail chain (level 20, new at Grand Launch) |
| Lupin's Banana, Lorang Claw, Clang Claw | 55 / 100 / 70 | Riel's four Florina Beach quests; see our Florina Beach guide |
Hold the crafting staples
| Material | Recipes that use it | Quest asks too | NPC pays | How you get more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screw | 142 | Yes (90 all told) | 1 | Craft (one craft makes 10) |
| Processed Leather | 101 | No | 10 | Craft from Leather |
| Spool of Thread | 82 | Yes (Francois in Need of Help) | 1 | Craft |
| Iron Ingot | 67 | Yes (Mr. Thunder) | 100 | Craft from 5 Iron Ore |
| Processed Cloth | 57 | No | 10 | Craft |
| Processed Wood | 44 | Yes (41 all told) | 10 | Craft from Firewood or Tree Branches |
| Garnet, Gold Ingot | 35 each | Yes | 200, 300 | Craft from ore |
| Mithril Ingot | 32 | Yes | 200 | Craft from ore |
| Fragment of Magic | 24 | Yes (20 all told) | 10 | Arcforge |
| Dragon Skin | 23 | Yes (90 all told) | 200 | Copper Drake, Drake |
| Seedling, Wooden Board | Processed Wood | — | — | Excavation Site drops, new at Grand Launch (henesys.gg) |
Recipe counts are MapleStory Quest's. Ore-to-ingot rules (5 ore each) and Screw yield come from our crafting guides. Our gloves guide shows a typical recipe: a level 30 glove takes Processed Leather, Iron Ingots and Spools of Thread. Our read: if you plan to craft, never vendor raw ore. Every ore type is in the "farmable again" group, but each sells for 20 to 500 mesos and feeds ingots for dozens of recipes (our ore guide and crafting guide).
Sell these instead
| Group | Examples | Why you can sell | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shop-bought | Blue, Red, Yellow, Black and White Dye; Apple, Egg, Orange, Lemon, Salad; Pure Water; bronze helmets from Harry | Buy another at an NPC when a quest asks | MapleStory Quest; NiaMeowDB shops |
| Quest-given | 50 items, including Omok pieces | The quest hands them to you | MapleStory Quest |
| Etc not on the list | Anything the keep list doesn't name | Nothing in the Public Release asks for it | MapleStory Quest |
| Closed test only | 40 items wanted only by Closed Online Test 2 quests | Those quests aren't in the release | MapleStory Quest |
The Halloween Candies (100 for the event quest) are a special case: they're untradeable, stack to 100, and disappear on November 18 at 11:59 PM UTC, so hand them in rather than storing them (Nexon, NiaMeowDB). Our Halloween event guide covers the quest.
Budget your storage
Our math: the 25 hard-to-replace drops in the table above add up to 2,497 items. Our inventory guide says materials stack to 100, and NiaMeowDB records Halloween Candies stacking to 100. Assuming these Etc drops do too (check in game), that's 38 slots for the full totals, or 26 if you only hold the largest single ask of each (rounding each item up to a whole slot). Spread it over storage and alts. Our inventory and storage guide covers slot counts and the storage fee.
| Plan | Items held | Slots (100 a stack, assumed) | Vendor value forgone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Largest single ask of each drop above | 1,014 | 26 | 59,805 mesos |
| Full totals of each drop above | 2,497 | 38 | 104,020 mesos |
| Everything on the keep list | All 299 rows | Far beyond one character | 245,022 mesos (MapleStory Quest) |
Vendor value is our sum of keep count × NPC price. The 8 Black Crystals alone are 20,000 of it.
Example: a level 35 Cleric holding 30 Cold Eye Tails, 40 Tablecloths and 60 Squishy Liquid forgoes about 2,950 mesos by not selling them, less than one White Potion stack. Those three stacks cover Maya's Third Collection, most of Icarus and the Balloon, and Getting Arcon's Blood later. Our read: a full-totals hoard costs about 104,000 mesos in lost sales. That's less than two two-handed weapon Lessers at El Moth (60,000 each, NiaMeowDB). Our mesos guide covers better ways to earn.
Choose a keep strategy
| Strategy | Who it suits | Upside | Downside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keep the largest ask only | Solo players doing quests as they go | Low storage | You'll farm again for repeat or chained quests |
| Keep full totals | Citizenship and house-quest completionists | One farming pass | About 38 slots |
| Keep crafting staples only | Crafters | Feeds every recipe | Quest drops sold too early |
| Sell everything | Speed levelers | Most mesos now | You'll refarm for Citizenship later |
Our quests worth doing guide shows which quest lines pay off enough to justify the storage.
Handle alts and returning players
- Returning players: many drop names are the same as in old GMS, but the quests asking for them are new Citizenship and house lines (MapleStory Quest Public Release notes).
- Alts as storage: account storage is shared by every character, and a house's storage chest opens the same storage (NiaMeowDB). That beats parking stacks on an alt, which needs a trade, and new accounts can't trade until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15 (Nexon). Our housing guide covers the chest.
- Crafters: keep Leather, Firewood and ore for processing even if you sell other Etc items.
- Minigame fans: Monster Cards (15) and the Omok pieces make the game sets (our minigames guide).
- Powerleveled characters: a carried character skips the drops you'd normally pick up, so expect to farm Citizenship items later.

What changed for Etc items at Grand Launch
The keep list above is built from the live client. Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) and the patches around it changed these asks and rules, per Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes, October 15 notes and henesys.gg:
| Change | What it means for your Etc tab |
|---|---|
| New quests in Victoria Island, including Pia's Legend of the Snail chain | Keep snail shells from the first maps |
| The Filing Error now needs 25 Torn Ledger Pages, down from 50 (October 15) | Stop at 25; see our Caretaker's Ledger guide |
| Dr. Betty's Research on Plant Fossils text fixed to 8 Plant Samples, the amount it always took (October 15) | Don't farm 20 |
| Pets now pick up stackable Etc items when your inventory is full, if an existing stack has room (October 15) | Partial stacks keep filling during long sessions |
| Excavation Site added, with Seedlings and Wooden Boards for Processed Wood | A second wood source for crafters |
| Debt System (October 22): accounts in debt can't trade or drop items | Debt also blocks selling Etc to players |
| New-account trade lock until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15 | Sell Etc to NPCs or hold it until then |
Crafting still stops at craft level 8, so materials for level 9 and 10 recipes don't need to be stockpiled yet. The MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.
FAQ
What Etc items should I keep in MapleStory Classic? The 41 hard-to-replace drops, led by Cursed Dolls, Tablecloths and Stone Golem Rubble, plus crafting materials if you craft (MapleStory Quest).
Can I sell Etc items to NPCs? Yes. Anything not on the keep list, shop-bought items and quest-given items can all go. Selling the whole keep list earns only 245,022 mesos (MapleStory Quest).
How many Cursed Dolls do I need? 570 across every quest that asks, with 200 as the largest single ask (MapleStory Quest).
What is the most used crafting material? Screws, in 142 recipes, followed by Processed Leather in 101 (MapleStory Quest).
Should I sell ore? Not if you plan to craft. Ingots take 5 ore each and feed dozens of recipes (our crafting guides).
What does 'no known source' mean on the keep list? MapleStory Quest couldn't match the item to a drop in its older v83 tables. Many such items are crafted, quest-given, or dropped by a monster with a matching name, like Lorang Claws. Mushroom caps, by contrast, are easy: Maya, Jane and Pia want about 100 of each.
