THE GUIDE

Camping is World of Warcraft: Forever's new open-world system. The old Cooking Fire becomes a campsite that any passing player can use, and every profession adds an object with a buff or a service. This WoW Forever camping guide explains how a campsite works, lists every profession's camp object and its level 60 buff, covers the Blueprint workstations crafters need, and shows which camp buffs are worth placing for your group. Forever launches on November 4, 2026. Values come from the beta client and Blizzard's posts, so check tooltips in game.

Quick summary

  • Camping turns the Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire. Placing one creates a campsite with vendors, repairs, profession workstations and one-hour buffs. Nearby players add objects they craft with their professions (Blizzard).
  • A Basic Campfire takes 3 objects, a Journeyman Campfire 5, and an Expert Campfire 10. Each player adds one, and all objects share a 1-hour cooldown (Blizzard; The Forever Era beta client).
  • All 12 professions have a camp object. You learn the first at skill 20. Better objects come from Blueprints that drop from specific dungeon bosses and need skill 140 or 300 in the client (Blizzard, The Forever Era).
  • Camp buffs don't stack with matching class buffs. For example, the Fish Bowl's +8% all stats is a variant of Blessing of Kings. Plan your camp around the classes in your group.
  • Three Legacy perks change camping. Field Guide cuts the object cooldown to 45 minutes at max rank, Permanence stretches camp benefits to 2 hours, and Reagent Economy makes basic camp objects free to craft (Blizzard, Legacy system; The Forever Era).

How camping works in WoW Forever

Blizzard's Deep Dive panel recap introduced camping as an evolution of the Cooking Fire: a campsite that offers vendors, repairs, profession workstations and one-hour buffs, which other players improve with objects they craft. Camps are public. You don't need to be in a party with the player who lit the fire, and anyone who stays nearby for a minute gets the benefits (WoW Handbook, camping).

Rule Detail Source

Placement Needs a "Camping Fire" nearby, the same check cooking uses Client
Stacking Each camp buff is exclusive with one class buff Blizzard, client
Where "Nearly anywhere in the open world"; quest hubs, roads and dungeon entrances work well WoW Handbook

Two beta changes are worth knowing (Blizzard notes, as collected by The Forever Era):

  • Build 70009: you can buff, cast and craft while waiting by the fire.
  • Build 70170 (October 1): campfires no longer damage characters below level 5, and deal less damage to anyone under 90% health.

Blizzard adds a warning: "some parts of Azeroth are better suited for a quiet rest than others."

WoW Forever camp buffs: every profession's camp object

These are basic objects learned at skill 20, with values at level 60 from the client tooltips (The Forever Era, camping). Most buffs scale with your level. Which professions to take for your class is covered in our professions guide.

Profession Object Buff at level 60 Doesn't stack with
Alchemy Mana Well 29 mana every 5 sec Blessing of Wisdom
Blacksmithing Sharpening Wheel +34 Strength Strength of Earth Totem
Enchanting Enchanted Lute +308 Armor, +13 all stats, +22 all resistances Mark of the Wild
Tailoring Faction Banner +32 Spirit Divine Spirit
Herbalism Incense Candle +25 Intellect Arcane Intellect
Mining Lodestone +90 melee Attack Power Blessing of Might
Skinning Camp Chair +2% spell and attack crit (fixed) Moonkin Aura
First Aid First Aid Kit +56 Stamina Power Word: Fortitude
Fishing Fish Bowl +8% all stats (fixed) Blessing of Kings
Leatherworking Camp Tent Raises rested XP to 5% of a level, once an hour —
Engineering Reagent Bot Sells reagents —
Cooking Basic Campfire Hosts the camp —

Example scaling, Lodestone (The Forever Era): +12 AP at levels 1–11, +20 at 12–21, +32 at 22–31, +49 at 32–41, +67 at 42–51, and +90 from 52. The Camp Tent and Fish Bowl don't change with level.

WoW Forever Blueprints: workstation camp objects

Each profession has two Blueprint objects at skill 140 and 300. In the client, 20 of the 24 replace the basic object and give all of its benefits. A Master Forge, for example, still gives the Sharpening Wheel's Strength (The Forever Era).

Profession Skill 140 Skill 300 Recipes needing a workstation
Alchemy Fermenter Alchemy Laboratory 5 (Fermenter)
Blacksmithing Anvil Master Forge 65 (Master Forge)
Enchanting Arcane Salvager (more efficient disenchanting) Arcane Forge 10 (Arcane Forge)
Engineering Repair Bot (reagents and repairs) Anarchist's Workbench 19 (Workbench)
Leatherworking Tanning Rack Sewing Machine 48 / 91
Tailoring Spinning Wheel Loom 74 / 43
Herbalism Greenhouse (grows herbs from seeds) Seed Hybridizer Seed spells
Mining Rock Garden (spawns a common ore node) Molten Foundry 1 (Foundry)
Skinning Field Guide (grants Track Beasts) Trapper's Workbench —
First Aid Toxin Study (healing potions, anti-venom) Plague Doctor's Laboratory —
Fishing Fishing Rack (uncommon fish for 1 h, lures) Fishing Hut (rare fish for 1 h) —
Cooking Cookie's Feast (skill 140; Stamina food) Iron Oven (skill 300) 19 (Iron Oven)

Why this matters for crafters: 375 recipes need a camp workstation in the client. 105 of those existed in Classic, and 74 of the 105 needed no station there (The Forever Era). The client doesn't say whether a city forge also counts as a Master Forge. Until that's confirmed, a Sewing Machine or Master Forge may be the only way to craft top-end leather and plate.

Blizzard says Blueprints drop from specific dungeon bosses. Four drop sources are already known from the new dungeons' loot data: in the Excavation Site, Shadetooth drops Blueprint: Greenhouse and Relic Guardian drops Blueprint: Rock Garden (wowforever.be); in City of Dalaran, Unstable Sentinel drops Blueprint: Spinning Wheel and the Shade of the Archmage drops Blueprint: Arcane Salvager (WoW Handbook). The other new dungeons in our dungeons guide are the natural place to look for the rest. Several Blueprint reagents also have no known source in the client: the Golem Heart (Master Forge), Undeath Engine (Sewing Machine), Bottled Screams (Loom), Maker's Spark (Arcane Forge), Essence of Anarchy (Workbench) and Lich's Index Finger (Alchemy Laboratory).

Best camp objects for your group

These are our setups, built on the stacking rules above. The class buffs they work around are covered class by class in our class tier list.

Group has Skip these Place these first
Paladin (Kings, Might, Wisdom) Fish Bowl, Lodestone, Mana Well Enchanted Lute, Sharpening Wheel, Camp Chair
Priest (Fortitude, Spirit) First Aid Kit, Faction Banner Fish Bowl, Lodestone
Druid (Mark of the Wild, Moonkin) Enchanted Lute; Camp Chair if a Moonkin is in the party First Aid Kit, Fish Bowl
Mage (Arcane Intellect) Incense Candle Mana Well
Shaman (Strength of Earth) Sharpening Wheel Lodestone, Fish Bowl
Leveling alone — Camp Tent for rested XP, Mana Well or First Aid Kit

A 3-slot Basic Campfire for a melee leveling pair with no buffers (our pick): Lodestone (+90 AP), Fish Bowl (+8% stats) and Camp Tent (rested XP). That covers damage, stats and leveling speed with three common professions.

Example: a Warrior and a Rogue duo level together. Neither class has a party buff, so nothing in their camp is wasted. The Warrior's Mining places the Lodestone and the Rogue's Fishing places the Fish Bowl. When a Paladin joins for a dungeon, the Fish Bowl and Lodestone overlap with Kings and Might, so the pair switches to objects that don't overlap, such as a First Aid Kit for Stamina (First Aid is a secondary profession either can learn).

Legacy perks for camping

Perk Tree Ranks Effect Source
Field Guide Adventure 3 Object cooldown −8/17/25%, which is 55.2 / 49.8 / 45 minutes The Forever Era, Blizzard
Permanence Resourcefulness 2 Camp rest benefits last 50% / 100% longer, which is 1.5 h / 2 h (also extends class group buffs) The Forever Era, Blizzard
Reagent Economy Resourcefulness — Tier 1 camping features need no materials to craft; class abilities stop needing purchasable reagents Blizzard

Full point costs and gates are in our Legacy system guide.

Compare camping with the alternatives

Option Gives Cost Best for
Camp buffs 1-hour buffs from 9 professions Crafted objects, 1-minute sit Groups without full class buffs, leveling
Class buffs Usually stronger, and take priority where exclusive A player of that class Raids and organized groups
Consumables (food, elixirs) Separate buffs Gold and materials Stacking on top of camp and class buffs
Camp Tent Rested XP up to 5% of a level per hour 5 Light Leather Leveling alts

The Camp Tent pairs well with the rested XP advice in our leveling guide: it tops you up to 5% of a level and adds nothing if you already have more.

What to check in game at launch

The client data leaves a few details open, so look for these in the first week:

  • Which bosses drop the Blueprints not listed above.
  • What the Reagent and Repair Bots sell.
  • What Cookie's Feast, the Fishing Rack and the Fishing Hut give.
  • Which herbs the Greenhouse grows from the four new seed types (Commonplace, Uncommon, Unusual and Scarce Herb Seeds).
  • Where the camping NPCs who teach the first objects stand.

Avoid these camping mistakes

  1. Dropping a camp buff your group already has. It won't stack with the matching class buff (Blizzard).
  2. Building your fire on top of another camp. WoW Handbook suggests placing it a little away so both camps keep their slots.
  3. Leaving before the minute is up. You get the benefits only after sitting or crafting by the fire for 1 minute (client).
  4. Ignoring workstations as a crafter. Hundreds of recipes need one, and only a profession at 140 or 300 can place it.
  5. Skipping Leatherworking on an alt army. The Camp Tent's rested XP works for anyone sitting nearby.

If you're making alts or coming back

  • Classic veterans will find that the Cooking Fire is now a Basic Campfire. In Classic Era it lasted 10 minutes and gave +4 Spirit (The Forever Era).
  • Alt planners can give each alt a different gathering profession, so your camp offers several buffs. Pair this with Legacy's profession perks. See our Skyborne guide if you're rolling a new race.
  • Launch-week players: our launch guide has the release time and ruleset rules, and the WoW Forever hub collects the rest of our coverage.

FAQ

How does camping work in WoW Forever? A Cook places a campfire, nearby players each add one crafted object, and anyone who sits by the fire for a minute gets one-hour benefits (Blizzard; beta client).

How many objects can a campfire hold? Three for a Basic Campfire, five for a Journeyman Campfire, and ten for an Expert Campfire (Blizzard; The Forever Era).

Do camp buffs stack with class buffs? No. Each camp buff is a variant of one class buff and doesn't stack with it. The Incense Candle, for example, matches Arcane Intellect (Blizzard).

Do you need to be in a party to use someone's camp? No. Camps are public, and any player who sits or crafts by the fire for a minute gets the benefits (WoW Handbook).

What skill do you need to place a camp object? Skill 20 for your profession's basic object. Blueprint objects need 140 or 300 in the beta client, and Blizzard says Blueprints drop from specific dungeon bosses.

What does the Camp Tent do? It raises the rested XP of everyone sitting nearby to 5% of a level, then can't trigger for that player again for an hour (beta client).
