THE GUIDE

WoW Forever adds nine new five-player dungeons to the original 20, spread from level 13 to 60 across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. This WoW Forever new dungeons guide lists every one with Blizzard's level range and location, how to get in (City of Dalaran needs an attunement), the boss lists found in the client, the Spelunker Legacy points and where each dungeon fits in your leveling.

Levels and locations come from Blizzard's Explore the New Dungeons article (October 20). Boss lists come from the beta client as read by The Forever Era. The game launches on November 4, 2026.

Quick summary

  • Forever adds nine new dungeons: Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site, City of Dalaran, the Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and the Shaper's Terrace (Blizzard).
  • They run from level 13 (Hall of Thanes) to 58–60 (Shaper's Terrace), per Blizzard's official level list. All 20 Classic dungeons stay in the game, for 29 in total (The Forever Era).
  • Four have boss lists in the client: Hall of Thanes (4), Ruins of Lordaeron (7), Excavation Site (4) and City of Dalaran (9). The other five weren't in the beta client, and no dungeon loot tables were (The Forever Era).
  • City of Dalaran needs an attunement quest chain that starts in Southshore (Alliance) or Tarren Mill (Horde) (Blizzard).
  • Three Legacy challenges, "Spelunker" Novice, Experienced and Master, give 1 account-wide Legacy Point each for clearing the new dungeons (The Forever Era, from the client).

Where each new dungeon is and how to get in

Locations and access notes are Blizzard's; the tips come from beta runs reported by WoW Handbook and The Forever Era.

Hall of Thanes (13–18): beneath Ironforge

Dark Iron intruders have broken into the tomb of the dwarven kings. Alliance players walk in from the capital; Horde groups have to cross Dun Morogh. It's the Alliance answer to Ragefire Chasm (WoW Handbook). Trash is widely spaced, Dark Iron Engineers hit hard, and later bosses use fears and threat drops. Quest turn-ins are large: one level 14 player got about 4,600 XP from a single quest. Full walkthrough: our Hall of Thanes guide.

Ruins of Lordaeron (15–20): above the Undercity

The Forsaken are reclaiming the city while a necromancer gathers power. Horde players enter from the Undercity. Alliance groups travel north from Southshore through Hillsbrad and into Horde territory, which is dangerous on the PvP ruleset. The layout is non-linear, and two bosses need triggers: The Abandoned appears after you clear its courtyard and tower, and Viktor the Vile starts at a campfire after several undead waves. See our Ruins of Lordaeron guide.

Excavation Site (24–29): Wetlands

Near Thelgen Rock and Dun Algaz, above Whelgar's Excavation, where titan constructs and wildlife guard a site "frozen in time" (Blizzard). It overlaps with Blackfathom Deeps and the Stockade. See our Excavation Site guide.

City of Dalaran (28–33): Alterac Mountains

You need the Kirin Tor's trust first. Alliance players start the attunement with "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore; Horde players start with "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill (Blizzard). You enter through the sewers and choose between paths in the city. It has the most bosses of any new dungeon in the client (9). See our City of Dalaran guide.

The Drowned City (35–40): off Stranglethorn Vale

Risen troll ruins west of Grom'gol, held by trolls and naga. You dive underwater to find the entrance, and the open-air dungeon builds from mist to a full storm before the last boss (Blizzard). Trash pulls are tight, so crowd control matters. See our Drowned City guide.

Krol'dok Stronghold (40–45): Riverglades

An ogre fortress of workshops and camps whose raiders kidnap travelers across the Riverglades (Blizzard). It fits the end of Riverglades questing.

Alcaz Prison (48–53): Alcaz Island, Dustwallow Marsh

The island prison finally opens, with the Defias Brotherhood and naga fighting inside (Blizzard).

Blackmaw Hold (55–60): Azshara

A furbolg city behind a long-sealed gate, with several routes and bosses. Blizzard hints that its deepest reaches lead farther below Azeroth, which matches the Barrow Deeps raid entrance listed for Blackmaw Hold.

Shaper's Terrace (58–60): Un'Goro Crater

A titan facility in Un'Goro's northern hills. Gather power crystals in Un'Goro and use them at consoles inside (Blizzard), so carry crystals before you zone in.

None of the last four were in the beta client, so their bosses and loot are unknown until launch.

Earn the Spelunker Legacy points

Challenge Reward Client text What the client actually counts (TFE)
Novice Spelunker 1 account-wide Legacy Point "Complete the Ruins of Loradaeron and Excavation: Wetlands dungeons." Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands, plus "Ragefire Chasm or Hall of Thanes"
Experienced Spelunker 1 "Complete the City of Dalaran, Drowned City, and Krol'Dok Stronghold dungeons." Those three
Master Spelunker 1 "Complete the Alcaz Island, Timbermaw Hold, and Shaper's Terrace dungeons." Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold, The Shaper's Terrace

The client text has a typo ("Loradaeron") and older names ("Alcaz Island", "Timbermaw Hold"). Go by the criteria column. For how 3 points fit the 16-point cap, see our Legacy system guide.

Fit new dungeons into your leveling

Classic ranges are from The Forever Era. The picks are ours.

Bracket New dungeon Classic overlap Our pick
13–20 Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron Ragefire Chasm 13–18, Wailing Caverns 17–24, Deadmines 17–26 Run your faction's new dungeon for quest XP, then Deadmines or WC
24–33 Excavation Site, City of Dalaran BFD and Stockade 24–32, Gnomeregan and RFK 29–38 Excavation at 25–29, Dalaran at 30–33
35–45 Drowned City, Krol'dok Scarlet Monastery 34–45, Razorfen Downs 37–46 Mix with SM wings; Krol'dok fits the Riverglades leveling
48–53 Alcaz Prison Uldaman 41–51, Zul'Farrak 44–54, Maraudon 46–55 Alcaz in place of a second ZF lap
55–60 Blackmaw Hold, Shaper's Terrace BRD 52–60, LBRS, Dire Maul, Scholomance, Stratholme, UBRS Pre-raid gear before the December 9 raids

Blizzard confirms Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player) and Onyxia's Lair (40-player) for December 9; our raids guide covers them. Launch dates and rulesets are in our launch guide, and zone routes are in our new zones guide.

Build a group for the new dungeons

The Forever Era sums up the dungeons this way: "No level scaling, crowd control and threat matter, and every boss drops a blue item." Blizzard's What's Next recap also confirms no level scaling. In practice:

Need Why Classes that cover it
A real tank Threat drops on Hall of Thanes bosses; big Ruins pulls Warrior, Druid, Paladin
Crowd control Tight Drowned City packs Mage, Rogue, Priest (undead), Hunter traps
Fear answers Hall of Thanes fears Tremor Totem, Fear Ward
A guide or a patient group The Ruins are non-linear and easy to get lost in Anyone who has run it once

Our tip: pick up every quest before you zone in.

Avoid these mistakes

  1. Skipping the hidden Ruins bosses. The Abandoned and Viktor the Vile need triggers.
  2. Going in under-leveled. There's no level scaling, so a level 13 in Hall of Thanes is at the bottom of its range.
  3. Trusting early boss names. BlizzCon and client names already differ for two bosses.
  4. Showing up to Dalaran without the attunement. Finish the Southshore or Tarren Mill chain first.
  5. Running Alliance groups to the Ruins on PvP without a plan. The entrance sits in Horde territory.
  6. Ignoring Spelunker. Three Legacy Points is close to a fifth of the 16-point launch cap.

Compare dungeons with other leveling methods

Method XP Gear Downside
New dungeon with its quest chain High from quests Blue boss drops Group needed; long first runs
Classic dungeons Familiar Known loot tables More crowded at launch
Questing (1,000+ new quests, Blizzard) Steady Quest greens and blues Contested zones on PvP
Camping and rested XP Bonus only — Needs other players

If you're making alts or coming back

  • Classic veterans: the 20 original dungeons still work as you remember. The new nine fill gaps at 13–20, 24–33, 35–45, 48–53 and 55–60.
  • Alt players: each Spelunker challenge pays its point once per account, so your main can earn them.
  • Skyborne players: you start on Zephras Isle (1–12), so Hall of Thanes or the Ruins is your first dungeon. See our Skyborne guide.

The WoW Forever hub collects the rest of our dungeon coverage.
