THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • Best classes in TBC Anniversary Phase 3.5: Priest and Druid (S). Both have a top healer, an S-tier arena spec and more than one raid role.
  • A tier: Warrior, Shaman and Paladin. Warrior has an S-tier raid DPS spec and a strong tank. Shaman and Paladin each have an S-tier healer or tank.
  • Warlock, Rogue and Mage are B; Hunter is C. They are pure damage classes. Warlock and Hunter are S tier as raid DPS, but have only one role, and Hunter has the weakest arena ladder.
  • Raid-only player? Use the role tables below: Destruction Warlock, Beast Mastery Hunter and Fury Warrior lead DPS, Restoration Shaman and Holy Priest lead healing, and Protection Paladin leads tanking.

This TBC Anniversary class tier list ranks all nine classes for Phase 3.5, the Zul'Aman update that went live on October 22, 2026, with Black Temple and Mount Hyjal (Blizzard). It covers the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms, not the original 2021 TBC Classic. It doesn't copy anyone's tier letters. The class ranking is built from our own three role lists, and every spec in them was placed by a written score.

How we rank TBC Anniversary classes

A class is only as good as the roles it can fill. So each class gets points from its best spec in each of our three tier lists, all checked on October 29, 2026:

Part Source list Points
Raid DPS Best spec in our DPS tier list, scored on five toolkit criteria S = 3, A = 2, B = 1, C or D = 0
Healing or tanking Best spec in our healer and tank tier list, scored on six toolkit criteria S = 3, A = 2, B = 1, no spec = 0
Arena Best 3v3 spec in our PvP tier list, scored on Pvplog ladder data from October 27–28 S = 3, A = 2, B = 1, C or D = 0
Extra roles Each raid role beyond damage (tank, healer) +1 each

Class tiers (out of 11): S = 8 or more, A = 6–7, B = 4–5, C = 0–3.

The extra-role points reward flexibility. With dual spec on Anniversary realms, a Druid or Paladin can switch to whichever role the raid is missing, which makes finding a group much easier.

TBC Anniversary class tier list

Class Best raid DPS Best healer or tank Best 3v3 arena Extra roles Score Tier
Priest Shadow (B) · 1 Holy (S) · 3 Discipline (S) · 3 Healer · 1 8 S
Druid Feral or Balance (B) · 1 Restoration or Feral (A) · 2 Restoration (S) · 3 Tank, healer · 2 8 S
Warrior Fury (S) · 3 Protection (A) · 2 Arms (B) · 1 Tank · 1 7 A
Shaman Enhancement or Elemental (B) · 1 Restoration (S) · 3 Restoration (A) · 2 Healer · 1 7 A
Paladin Retribution (B) · 1 Protection (S) · 3 Retribution (C) · 0 Tank, healer · 2 6 A
Warlock Destruction (S) · 3 none · 0 Soul Link (A) · 2 none · 0 5 B
Rogue Combat (A) · 2 none · 0 Subtlety (S) · 3 none · 0 5 B
Mage Arcane (A) · 2 none · 0 Frost (S) · 3 none · 0 5 B
Hunter Beast Mastery (S) · 3 none · 0 Beast Mastery (C) · 0 none · 0 3 C

Example. You only want to raid as damage and don't care about arena. Skip the class score and read the raid DPS column: Warlock, Hunter and Warrior all have an S-tier spec there. The class score matters most if you want one character that can raid, heal or tank on demand and play arena.

Every spec ranked for Phase 3.5 raids

This table pulls every spec from our two raid lists, so you can compare roles side by side. The scores and reasons are in each list.

Tier DPS (20 specs) Healers (5) Tanks (3)
S Destruction Warlock, Beast Mastery Hunter, Fury Warrior Restoration Shaman, Holy Priest Protection Paladin
A Arcane Mage, Combat Rogue, Affliction Warlock, Demonology Warlock, Fire Mage Holy Paladin, Restoration Druid Protection Warrior, Feral (Bear) Druid
B Survival Hunter, Arms Warrior, Enhancement Shaman, Elemental Shaman, Feral (Cat) Druid, Balance Druid, Marksmanship Hunter, Shadow Priest, Frost Mage, Assassination Rogue, Retribution Paladin Discipline Priest
C Subtlety Rogue

B tier isn't a trap. Most B-tier DPS specs bring a raid-wide debuff that only they can apply: Improved Seal of the Crusader (Retribution), Blood Frenzy (Arms), Expose Weakness (Survival), Misery (Shadow) and Improved Faerie Fire (Balance). A raid wants one of each, so they often have a safer seat than a fourth S-tier Hunter.

Why each class ranks where it does

Priest (S)

Holy Priest is an S-tier healer thanks to Circle of Healing and Prayer of Mending, and every Priest can cast Fear Ward on a tank. Discipline is S tier in arena, and Shadow brings Misery and Vampiric Touch mana to its raid party. Three useful specs with no weak role put Priest at the top. Builds are in our Priest guide.

Druid (S)

Druid fills four roles from three talent trees: Cat DPS, Bear tank, Balance caster and Restoration healer. Feral covers Cat DPS and Bear tanking with one talent build, Restoration is A tier in raids and S tier in arena, and Innervate and Rebirth help any raid. Its weakness is damage: no Druid DPS spec reaches A tier. See our Druid guide.

Warrior (A)

Fury is an S-tier raid DPS spec and Protection is an A-tier tank with the best emergency cooldowns (Shield Wall, Last Stand). Arms brings Blood Frenzy and anchors most Warrior arena teams. Warriors lean hard on their healers and on a Shaman's Windfury Totem in their party. Our Warrior guide covers all three specs.

Shaman (A)

Restoration Shaman is an S-tier healer: Chain Heal, Mana Tide Totem, Earth Shield and Bloodlust or Heroism on every boss. Both damage specs sit in B, because they run short on mana, but each lifts its party with totems (Windfury for melee, Totem of Wrath for casters). See our Shaman guide.

Paladin (A)

Protection Paladin is the S-tier tank for Phase 3.5. Consecration holds big packs, and Black Temple and Hyjal are full of Demons and Undead. Holy Paladin is an A-tier tank healer. Retribution brings Improved Seal of the Crusader but sits low in arena. More in our Paladin guide.

Warlock (B)

Destruction is the top-scoring DPS spec in our list, with Life Tap for endless mana and Seed of Corruption for AoE. Soul Link builds are A tier in arena. Warlocks lose points only because they have one raid role. Our Warlock guide has the builds.

Rogue (B)

Combat Rogue does top-end damage, but a raid wants only one Improved Expose Armor Rogue. Subtlety is S tier in arena and anchors RMP, the top-ranked 3v3 comp in our PvP list. See our Rogue guide.

Mage (B)

Arcane has the best burst of any caster and Fire stacks well, but both depend on Evocation and mana gems on long fights. Frost is S tier in arena. Mages also conjure food and water for the raid. See our Mage guide.

Hunter (C)

The score undersells Hunter for raiders. Beast Mastery is S tier as raid DPS, and Misdirection helps every tank. The class only has one role, though, and Hunters are about 3% of the 3v3 ladder in both regions, below the ladder average. Pick Hunter to raid and level, not for arena. See our Hunter guide.

How Anniversary rules change class value

Anniversary isn't a straight replay of TBC Classic (2021–2022). These changes shift which classes a raid needs:

Change Source Effect on class value
Bloodlust and Heroism reset when a boss encounter ends, on a kill or a wipe Warcraft Tavern's Anniversary changes guide Shamans can use them on every boss, which makes one Shaman per group even more valuable
Dual spec is available on Anniversary realms Warcraft Tavern Hybrids (Druid, Paladin, Shaman, Priest) can keep a raid role and a farming or off-role spec without paying to respec
No buff or debuff limit Warcraft Tavern DoT and debuff specs like Affliction, Shadow and Balance never push key raid debuffs off the boss
Account-wide attunements, then none at all for Black Temple and Hyjal from October 22 Warcraft Tavern, Blizzard Alts reach Tier 6 raids quickly, so playing a second class costs less than in 2022
Zul'Aman is a 10-player raid with no attunement and a 3-day lockout Blizzard One-seat utility specs compete harder for spots than in 25-player raids

Build a 25-player roster: party groups

Most TBC buffs only reach your party of five, so raid leaders build groups, not just a list of specs. Here's a typical shape, using each class's party buffs:

Party Core Key buffs inside the party
Melee Fury Warrior, Arms Warrior, Combat Rogue, Feral Druid or Ret Paladin, Enhancement Shaman Windfury Totem, Strength of Earth, Battle Shout, Leader of the Pack, Unleashed Rage
Hunter Beast Mastery Hunters (one Survival in the raid), plus a Druid or Shaman Ferocious Inspiration, Trueshot Aura if a Marksmanship Hunter is present, Leader of the Pack or totems
Caster 1 Destruction Warlocks or Mages, Elemental Shaman, Shadow Priest Totem of Wrath, Wrath of Air, Vampiric Touch mana
Caster 2 More Warlocks or Mages, Balance Druid or a second Shadow Priest Moonkin Aura, Vampiric Touch
Healers and tanks Resto Shamans, Holy Priest, Holy Paladin, Resto Druid, tanks Mana Tide Totem, healing auras

Raid-wide debuffs to cover once each: Improved Seal of the Crusader (Ret), Blood Frenzy (Arms), Expose Weakness (Survival), Improved Expose Armor or Sunder Armor, Improved Faerie Fire (Balance or a Resto Druid who takes it), Misery and Shadow Weaving (Shadow) and Curse of the Elements (Warlock).

Zul'Aman and 10-player raids

Zul'Aman has two parties instead of five. Utility overlaps less, so each seat has to bring either a missing debuff or top damage. A common shape is a Protection Paladin and a Feral Druid or Protection Warrior tanking, a Restoration Shaman and a Priest or Paladin healing, and five or six DPS. Our DPS tier list does the seat math, and the Zul'Aman guide covers every boss, the 45-minute timer and the Amani War Bear.

Best classes for beginners, leveling and solo play

These are decision aids, not part of the score. Each line explains the toolkit reason.

Goal Best picks Why
First character Hunter, Warlock The pet takes hits while you learn, and the raid rotations are short (Steady Shot, or Shadow Bolt with Life Tap)
Fastest leveling Hunter, Warlock, Mage Pets tank for Hunters and Warlocks. Mages conjure their own food and water and can pull several mobs with AoE
Hardest to kill while leveling Paladin, Druid Paladins heal themselves and wear plate from level 40. Druids heal, tank in Bear Form and run away in Travel Form from level 30
Solo farming Mage, Hunter, Warlock Mage AoE clears packs, Hunters kite and Feign Death, and Warlocks drain health back
Always finding a group Priest, Druid, Shaman, Paladin Healers and tanks fill raid and dungeon spots faster than DPS

Example. You want a first character that can raid in a few weeks and you don't know your guild's needs. A Hunter levels easily and is S tier as raid DPS. If your guild is short on healers, a Priest or Shaman gets a seat faster, and dual spec lets you level as Shadow or Enhancement.

The TBC Anniversary leveling guide covers the road to 70 for both factions, and the gold farming guide shows which classes farm what.

Boosted, returning and alt players

  • Boosted to 58 or 70? Pick a spec by the seat it fills, not only the letter. A boosted Ret Paladin or Arms Warrior who keeps their debuff up gets invited ahead of an extra Hunter.
  • Use dual spec. On a hybrid, keep your raid spec and a farming or dungeon spec. Healers can farm in a damage spec without respeccing.
  • Gear your alt quickly. Zul'Aman has no attunement, Heroic keys need only Honored reputation from October 22, and older raid bosses now drop Badges of Justice. The fresh 70 catch-up guide lays out the route, and the new badge gear guide lists what to buy.
  • Returning from TBC Classic? Bloodlust now resets after every boss, and raids have no debuff limit, so debuff-heavy specs never fight over slots.

Choose a class in four checks

  1. Role demand. Tanks and healers fill raid spots more easily than a fifth copy of a popular DPS spec.
  2. Raid utility. A unique debuff (Improved Seal of the Crusader, Blood Frenzy, Expose Weakness, Improved Faerie Fire) can earn a spot by itself.
  3. Gear you already have. Switching specs within a class (Arms to Fury, Elemental to Restoration) costs less than a new class, and dual spec makes it free.
  4. Arena plans. If you want rated gear, check our PvP tier list and the arena comps guide first. Rogue, Priest, Druid and Mage lead the 3v3 ladder.

Review after each phase

The role lists are rescored when the content changes, so this class list moves with them. The next big change is Sunwell Plateau (Phase 4), which has no date yet. Our Sunwell Plateau guide previews it. Every TBC guide and service category is linked from the TBC Anniversary hub.
