MapleStory Classic HP and MP Recovery: Chairs, Sauna, Skills
MapleStory Classic HP and MP recovery without potions: every chair and how to get it, Sleepywood sauna rates, the Sauna Robe quest.

In this guide 10 sections
Quick summary
- Every regular chair adds a flat 30 HP every 10 seconds while you sit. The one exception is the Blue Seal Cushion, which adds 30 MP. The two Resident's Chairs give 20 HP and 5 MP (MapleClassic Wiki item pages).
- Your first chair is free. Pio's Collecting Recycled Goods quest on Maple Island gives The Green Relaxer. After that, Mina in Lith Harbor sells the Sky-blue Wooden Chair for 1,000 mesos (NiaMeowDB launch prices).
- The Sleepywood saunas speed up recovery. The Regular Sauna (499 mesos) doubles HP and MP recovery, and the VIP Sauna (999 mesos) triples it (NiaMeowDB map pages, wiki).
- A Sauna Robe adds 1.5× inside the sauna. It's a level 30 overall from Mr. Wetbottom's level 32 questline, with 10 upgrade slots (NiaMeowDB, wiki).
- Some jobs recover HP or MP through skills. Improved MP Recovery gives Magicians 1% of max MP every 10 seconds, and Bandits and Assassins heal up to 10% on a dodge or a critical (NiaMeowDB).
Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.
Know how much a chair is worth
A chair's 30 HP every 10 seconds is 180 HP a minute, or 10,800 HP an hour of sitting. Our potions guide puts the best HP value at 2 HP per meso, for example a Red Potion's 100 HP for 50 mesos. So an hour on a chair replaces 108 Red Potions, about 5,400 mesos. For MP, the best shop value is 1 MP per meso (Orange or Lemon). An hour on the Blue Seal Cushion is worth 10,800 MP, or about 10,800 mesos of Lemons.
That's the upper bound. You only get it while you're sitting, and you can't attack from a chair. The real value is in the gaps: between spawns, after a boss, or while you wait for a party.
Get a chair
| Chair | Bonus every 10 s (wiki) | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| The Green Relaxer | +30 HP | Reward from Pio's Collecting Recycled Goods quest in Amherst, Maple Island |
| Sky-blue Wooden Chair | +30 HP | Mina, Lith Harbor Department Store, 1,000 mesos (NiaMeowDB launch prices) |
| The Yellow Relaxer | +30 HP | Woodcrafting 2: Processed Wood ×10, Processed Cloth ×5, Yellow Dye ×2, Blue Dye ×1, Screw ×20, plus 3,000 mesos |
| The Red Relaxer | +30 HP | Woodcrafting 5: Processed Wood ×10, Processed Cloth ×5, Red Dye ×2, Blue Dye ×1, Screw ×20, plus 3,000 mesos |
| Red Chair | +30 HP | Leatherworking 5: Processed Leather ×8, Iron Ingot ×2, Processed Cloth ×5, Red Dye ×3, Screw ×20, plus 5,000 mesos |
| Green Chair, Yellow Chair | +30 HP | No source recorded on the wiki yet |
| Pink Seal Cushion | +30 HP | No source recorded yet |
| Blue Seal Cushion | +30 MP | No source recorded yet. It's the only MP chair on the list. |
| Henesys Resident's Chair | +20 HP, +5 MP | Oak, Henesys Town Hall, at citizenship grade 2 (Visitor). Trade-blocked, one per town. |
| Kerning City Resident's Chair | +20 HP, +5 MP | Weston, Kerning City Civic Center, at Visitor, 500,000 mesos (NiaMeowDB, confirmed for launch) |
Which chair should you use? All the regular chairs give the same 30 HP, so the free Green Relaxer is as good as any HP chair. Keep the 1,000-meso Sky-blue Wooden Chair as a backup if you skipped Pio's quest. Our Maple Island guide covers that quest. The Resident's Chairs give less HP for a much higher price. Buy one for the look or the 5 MP, not for recovery. The crafted chairs are mostly useful as crafting EXP: the Yellow Relaxer gives 40 Woodcrafting EXP at level 2. Our crafting guide covers the professions.
To use a chair, put it in your Set-up tab and double-click it, then stay still (wiki, Setup item page).
Use the Sleepywood saunas
| Sauna | Entry fee (wiki) | Recovery (NiaMeowDB) | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Sauna | 499 mesos | HP and MP 2× as fast | Mr. Sweatbottom sells consumables, including Subi Throwing-Stars |
| VIP Sauna | 999 mesos | HP and MP 3× as fast | Mr. Wetbottom starts the Secret Book questline |
Pay the Hotel Receptionist in Sleepywood Hotel to enter. NiaMeowDB says recovery is 2× or 3× "as fast on this map," but it doesn't say whether that multiplies a chair's bonus too. Test it with a chair before you plan around it.
Is the sauna worth it? It's a fee per visit, and Sleepywood sits next to Ant Tunnel and Sleepy Dungeon. Our training guide lists Deep Ant Tunnel I for levels 22–27 and Sleepy Dungeon V for 56–60. If you're resting there anyway, the sauna speeds that up. No source gives the base regen rate in numbers, so we can't say exactly how many potions a visit replaces. If you're training somewhere else, the trip probably costs more time than it saves.
Get a Sauna Robe
The Sauna Robe adds a 1.5× HP and MP recovery bonus, but only "if worn inside the hotel sauna" (NiaMeowDB, wiki). It's a real overall outside the sauna too.
| Stat | Blue or Red Sauna Robe |
|---|---|
| Level | 30 |
| Weapon defense | +75 |
| Stats | +1 STR, DEX, INT and LUK |
| HP and MP | +10 each |
| Upgrade slots | 10 |
| Sell-back | 5,400 mesos |
How to get it: Mr. Wetbottom in the VIP Sauna starts A Clue to the Secret Book at level 32. The questline runs nine steps, ending with Returned Secret Book: Ronnie in Ellinia gives you the Secret Book to bring back to Mr. Wetbottom. The first and last steps each pay 5,850 EXP and 1,023 mesos (wiki). The wiki lists Returned Secret Book as the only quest that rewards the robe.
NiaMeowDB's Warrior guide says male characters get the Blue Sauna Robe and female characters get the Red one. With 10 slots and main-stat scrolls allowed on overalls, it can also be a scrolling base. Our scrolling guide covers overall scrolls.
Use your job's recovery skills
| Job | Skill | What it does at max level (NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Recovery | Recover 72 HP over 30 seconds for 15 MP. 2-minute cooldown. |
| Warrior | Improved HP Recovery | HP regenerates every 10 seconds, "not just when standing still." Item HP recovery +20%. |
| Magician | Improved MP Recovery | 1% of max MP every 10 seconds at every level. Item MP recovery +20% at level 15. |
| Fire/Poison and Ice/Lightning Wizard | MP Eater | 50% chance to absorb 50% of a monster's max MP on a magic hit, once every 5 seconds |
| Cleric | Heal | Heals the party around you. Bless adds 10% to Heal's recovery. |
| Bandit | Nimble Recovery | 100% chance to recover 10% HP and MP when you dodge. 30-second cooldown. |
| Assassin | Critical Recovery | Recover HP and MP on a critical hit. 30-second cooldown. mscw-guidebook gives 10% of each at max. |
NiaMeowDB's Magician guide says the first Improved MP Recovery point turns on the 1% regen, and later points only raise item recovery. So one point early is worth it for every Magician. Our Magician guide has the full SP order.
Pick a recovery method
| Method | Recovery | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potions | Instant, as much as you carry | 2 HP or 1 MP per meso at best | Fighting. Nothing else works mid-fight. |
| Chair | +30 HP (or +30 MP) every 10 s | Free to 1,000 mesos, once | Waiting for spawns or a party |
| Regular Sauna | 2× recovery | 499 mesos per visit | Resting near Sleepywood |
| VIP Sauna | 3× recovery | 999 mesos per visit | Long rests near Sleepywood |
| Sauna Robe | 1.5× in the sauna | A nine-step questline | Regular Sleepywood visitors |
| Job skills | Varies, see above | SP | Every session |
A Magician gets the most from this. NiaMeowDB's Magician guide says MP potions cost twice as much as HP potions per point recovered. So every point of MP you regenerate instead of drinking saves twice the mesos of an HP point.
If you're returning, boosted, or on an alt
- Returning from old MapleStory? The Sleepywood saunas are back, with fees and multipliers you can check before you pay. The big change is crafting: three of the chairs are now player-made.
- Powerleveled to 30 or higher? You skipped Maple Island, so you don't have The Green Relaxer. Buy the Sky-blue Wooden Chair from Mina for 1,000 mesos. And since you're past level 32, you can start the Sauna Robe questline right away. Our powerleveling page explains what that service covers.
- Making an alt? Do Pio's quest on every new character. It's the only free chair. A Magician alt should take its first Improved MP Recovery point early.

What may change at Grand Launch
This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
FAQ
What is the best chair in MapleStory Classic?
For HP, every regular chair gives the same 30 HP every 10 seconds, so the free Green Relaxer from Pio's quest is as good as any. For MP, the Blue Seal Cushion is the only chair that gives 30 MP (wiki).
Where do you buy a chair in MapleStory Classic World?
Mina in the Lith Harbor Department Store sells the Sky-blue Wooden Chair for 1,000 mesos (NiaMeowDB launch prices). Citizens can buy a Resident's Chair in Henesys or Kerning City.
How much does the Sleepywood sauna cost?
The Regular Sauna costs 499 mesos and the VIP Sauna 999 mesos, paid to the Hotel Receptionist. NiaMeowDB says they make HP and MP recover 2× and 3× as fast.
How do you get the Sauna Robe?
Finish Mr. Wetbottom's Secret Book questline, which starts in the VIP Sauna at level 32. The last step, Returned Secret Book, rewards the robe.
Does the Sauna Robe work outside the sauna?
Its recovery bonus doesn't. It only applies "if worn inside the hotel sauna." Outside, it's a level 30 overall with 75 weapon defense and 10 slots.
Do Magicians regenerate MP faster?
Yes, with Improved MP Recovery. It restores 1% of max MP every 10 seconds from the first point, and raises MP from items by up to 20% (NiaMeowDB).
Is the Resident's Chair worth buying?
Not for recovery. It gives 20 HP and 5 MP every 10 seconds, less HP than a 1,000-meso chair. The Kerning City one costs 500,000 mesos.
