MapleStory Classic Maple Island Guide: Levels 1-10 Quest Route
MapleStory Classic Maple Island guide for levels 1-10: quest order, Rain's quiz answers, starter weapon, AP, Beginner skills, Shanks's boat.

In this guide 14 sections
Quick summary
- Route: Mushroom Town → Snail Hunting Grounds → A Split Road → Amherst → Southperry → Shanks's boat → Lith Harbor → Thicket Around the Beach. Then go to your job town at Lv 10 (planet-helper, MapleClassic Wiki).
- Before you board: finish every island quest. The boat is one-way, and there's no ferry back (MapleClassic Wiki, NiaMeowDB).
- Starter weapon: pick the Wooden Club (19 ATT), then switch to a Razor at Lv 5. Biggs's last island quest gives either a Razor or a Fruit Knife (NiaMeowDB, planet-helper).
- AP: put everything into your future job's main stat. Classic's 1st job has no stat requirement, and AP doesn't reset when you advance.
- SP: you'll have 9 SP by Lv 10, which maxes all three Beginner skills.
Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.
Make your character
- Starting stats are set, not rolled. Planet-helper says you start with 12 in the stat you pick, 4 in the others, and 1 free point (25 total). NiaMeowDB lists 12 in your main stat, 5 in a second stat, and 4 in the other two, also 25 total. Both agree there's no dice roll.
- Pick your job before you create the character. NiaMeowDB: "You set your starting stats on the character creation screen, so pick your class before you make your character." Our class tier list can help you decide.
- Pick the Wooden Club. It has 19 ATT, and the Sword and Hand Axe have 17. NiaMeowDB says the Club "reaches the useful damage breakpoints more often" through Lv 4.
Follow the island route
| Order | Map | NPCs and quests | Level | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mushroom Town - West Entrance | Heena and Sera: Borrowing Sera's Mirror | 1 | Wiki, planet-helper |
| 2 | Mushroom Town | Roger: Roger's Apple. Nina: What Sen wants to eat | 1 | Wiki |
| 3 | East Entrance to Mushroom Town | Todd: Todd's How-to-Hunt (3 Tutorial Jr. Sentinels) | 1–2 | Wiki |
| 4 | Snail Hunting Ground I–III | Sam: Sam's Suggestion (10 Snails); Robin (info) | 1–3 | Wiki, planet-helper |
| 5 | A Split Road | Maria: Letter for Lucas. Mai: Mai's Training and Final Training | 3–5 | Wiki, planet-helper |
| 6 | Amherst | Lucas: Lucas's Reply. Rain: Rain's Maple Quiz. Pio: Collecting Recycled Goods | 5–7 | Wiki, planet-helper |
| 7 | Southperry | Biggs: Biggs's Collection of Items. Shanks: the boat | ~7 | Wiki, planet-helper |
Planet-helper counts 20 island quests, and henesys.gg also says 20. NiaMeowDB counts 10, because it counts each chain once. Both counts cover the same quests.
Launch-week tip: planet-helper says not to wait on a crowded quest map. "Take the portal on the right and hunt as you move."
Do the quests that matter
| Quest | Needs | Reward | Note | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Roger's Apple | Eat the apple he gives you | — | Double-click it in your Use tab | Planet-helper |
| Mai's Training | 10 Blue Snails, 10 Shrooms, 5 Red Snails | 80 EXP, 10 Eggs | Keep the Blue Snail Shells | Planet-helper |
| Lucas's Reply | Maria's Letter | 120 EXP, a hat | Courier chain | Planet-helper |
| Rain's Maple Quiz | 7 answers | 490 EXP total | Answers below | Planet-helper, wiki |
| Pio's Collecting Recycled Goods | 2 Rusty Screws, 2 Old Wooden Boards (from boxes) | 100 EXP, 150 mesos, The Green Relaxer | Boxes respawn every 2 min | Planet-helper |
| Mai's Final Training | 1 Orange Mushroom | 120 EXP, 150 mesos, 10 Eggs | Grab an Orange Mushroom Cap too | Planet-helper |
| Biggs's Collection of Items | 10 Blue Snail Shells, 1 Orange Mushroom Cap | 120 EXP, Razor (50%) or Fruit Knife (50%) | Turn in when you reach Southperry | Planet-helper |
Rain's quiz answers, in order: 1) Up arrow, 2) Yes, 3) Equipment Inventory, 4) Sleep (the one that isn't a way to recover HP), 5) Level 10, 6) 5 AP per level, 7) Southperry — the seven quizzes pay 40 to 100 EXP each, 490 in total (NiaMeowDB quest pages) (planet-helper). The wiki calls it a "seven-question" quiz, but planet-helper lists five answers. If a question isn't listed, read it carefully; they're all basic tutorial questions.
The Green Relaxer: a chair that restores 30 HP every 10 seconds while you sit. NiaMeowDB says Maple Island is "the only place you can get it." If too many players are camping Pio's boxes, it suggests buying the Sky-blue Wooden Chair instead.
Know the island monsters
| Monster | Level | HP | EXP | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tutorial Jr. Sentinel | 1 | 30 | 1 | Wiki |
| Snail | 1 | 45 | 2 | Wiki |
| Blue Snail | 2 | 51 | 4 | Wiki |
| Shroom | 3 | 62 | 6 | Wiki |
| Red Snail | 4 | 68 | 8 | Wiki |
| Orange Mushroom | 8 | 142 | 15 | Wiki |
Planet-helper's hits-to-kill numbers for an all-STR start (13 STR) with the Club: 3 hits for a Blue Snail, 4 for a Red Snail, and 9 for an Orange Mushroom. NiaMeowDB's advice: "Train where you kill in one or two hits." Save the Orange Mushrooms for after you have the Razor.
Leave on Shanks's boat
| Question | Planet-helper | NiaMeowDB | MapleClassic Wiki |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fare | 150 mesos (from beta footage; "still being checked") | 300 mesos | 300 mesos |
| Level needed | None | Lv 7 | Not stated |
| Return trip | — | One-way | No return ferry |
Bring 300 mesos to be sure. Pio and Mai each give 150 (planet-helper). Our travel guide covers the fares after Lith Harbor.
Don't board early. Check that every island quest is turned in. The wiki says Maple Island has no potion shops, so keep the Eggs from Mai's quests and any Apples. Our potions guide compares Victoria Island potions for later.
Finish Lv 8-10 in Lith Harbor
The five Lith Harbor quests open at Lv 8 (planet-helper). If you land at Lv 7, kill Stumps and Slimes in Thicket Around the Beach I until you reach 8.
| Quest | Needs | Reward | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olaf's First Training | 8 Stumps, 8 Slimes | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 8 Red and 8 Blue Potions | Planet-helper |
| Olaf's Second Training | 8 Pigs, 8 Orange Mushrooms | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 3 Return Scroll - Nearest Town | Planet-helper |
| Teo's Weird Hobby | 10 Slimes, 1 Slime Bubble | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 15 Fried Chicken | Planet-helper |
| Teo's Even Weirder Hobby | 10 Pigs, 1 Pig's Head | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 1 Sniper Potion, 10 Lemons | Planet-helper |
| Phil's Call | Reach Lv 10 | 188 EXP, 245 mesos, 8 Red and 8 Blue Potions; Phil sends you to your job town | Planet-helper |
Planet-helper's order: take all three quests → Thicket Around the Beach I (Stumps, Slimes, a Slime Bubble) → back to town (turn in, take the second parts) → Thicket Around the Beach II (Pigs, Orange Mushrooms, a Pig's Head) → back to town → Thicket Around the Beach II until Lv 10 → Phil.
Party up. Planet-helper lists the party EXP bonus as +10% for 2 players, +20% for 3, and +30% for 4 or more. It suggests a party of 4+ in Thicket Around the Beach II for the last push.
Spend your AP and SP
AP: you get 5 AP per level (NiaMeowDB). Put all of it into your future job's main stat: STR for Warriors, INT for Magicians, DEX for Bowmen, and LUK for Thieves (both sources). NiaMeowDB warns: "Don't spend AP on the wrong stat thinking advancement will fix it." The only way to undo it is a Cash Shop AP Reset Scroll, usable from Lv 10.
NiaMeowDB says STR gives a Beginner stronger basic attacks than INT. Future Magicians kill a bit slower until they advance. Planet-helper says Beginners use a different damage formula, so damage is "about the same whichever stat you raise," but marks it unconfirmed.
SP: 1 per level, 9 by Lv 10. That's exactly enough to max all three skills.
| Skill | Max level effect | Order | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nimble Feet | +10 Speed for 30 s, 3 min cooldown | 1st | NiaMeowDB, planet-helper |
| Three Snails | 40 fixed ranged damage; uses a Red Snail Shell and 5 MP | 2nd | NiaMeowDB, planet-helper |
| Recovery | 72 HP over 30 s, 15 MP, 2 min cooldown | 3rd | NiaMeowDB, planet-helper |
Choose your route
| Route | What you do | Strength | Weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quest-first (planet-helper) | Every island quest, boat at ~7, Lith Harbor quests, party to 10 | Mesos, potions, Razor or Fruit Knife, chair | Crowded quest maps at launch |
| Stay on the island to 10 | Grind Orange Mushrooms after the quests | No Lv 8 wait in Lith Harbor | Fewer potions, no Lith Harbor rewards until later |
| Rush the boat | Skip quests | Off a crowded island sooner | You lose the Green Relaxer and Biggs's weapon, and you can't come back |
Henesys.gg's advice: "Don't rush to Victoria Island." It says the 20 quests give 1,075 EXP in total, plus a hat and a Fruit Knife or Razor.
Advance at Lv 10
Planet-helper: "Job-advance the moment you hit Lv 10." Beginners and advanced jobs gain different stats per level. NiaMeowDB says taxis are 90% off while you're a Beginner, so ride to your job town first.
| Job | Town | Instructor | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Perion | Dances with Balrog | NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg |
| Magician | Ellinia | Grendel the Really Old | NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg |
| Bowman | Henesys | Athena Pierce | NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg |
| Thief | Kerning City | Dark Lord | NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg |
Then continue with our job advancement guide and your class's 1-30 guide: Warrior, Magician, Bowman, or Thief.
Avoid the common mistakes
These come from planet-helper's list, with our notes:
- Standing on a crowded quest map. Move to the next map and hunt there.
- Camping for Pio's chair. The boxes respawn every 2 minutes. If other players are taking them, hunt in the meantime.
- Selling quest items. Keep 10 Blue Snail Shells and an Orange Mushroom Cap for Biggs.
- Staying a Beginner past Lv 10. Advance right away.
- Soloing the last levels. A party of 4 gets +30%.
- Putting AP into the wrong stat. It doesn't reset when you advance (NiaMeowDB).
Plan alts and returning players
- Alts: every new character starts on Maple Island (wiki), and NiaMeowDB says the Green Relaxer comes only from Pio here. Decide whether each alt needs its own chair.
- Returning players: Classic's 1st job has no stat requirement, and Magicians advance at 10, not 8 like the original game (Nexon's Founder's Access notes). Old advice about a 25 DEX requirement for Thieves or a level-8 Magician advancement doesn't apply.
- After 10: our EXP table and leveling page cover the rest. The MapleStory Classic hub has more.

What may change at Grand Launch
This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
