Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.
This MapleStory Classic Sleepywood guide maps the dungeon town and every area under it: the Ant Tunnel for levels 21–30, the Evil Eye caves and Drake tunnels for the 30s and 40s, Sleepy Dungeon for the 50s, and the sanctuary maps down to Jr. Balrog. It includes the October 15 spawn cuts in Sleepy Dungeon, which older map rankings still don't reflect.
Quick summary
- Sleepywood leads into the largest dungeon network on Victoria Island. It's about 40 maps, starting with Ant Tunnel I and ending at Jr. Balrog in The Cursed Sanctuary (MapleStory Quest map data). The MapleClassic Wiki says the town has no job instructor.
- Train in the Ant Tunnel from 21 to 25. NiaMeowDB ranks Ant Tunnel III first with the highest theoretical EXP per hour. planet-helper ranks Ant Tunnel IV first because it holds the most monsters at once (33).
- From 26 to 30, use Ant Tunnel Park. It holds 40 monsters at once, the most in its band (planet-helper), and has a 24 Hr Mobile Store right on the map that sells food and Return Scrolls.
- From the late 50s, train in Sleepy Dungeon V, but expect less than the database ceilings. The October 15 patch capped it at 20 monsters at once, down from 31, and slowed its respawn (henesys.gg). Its target is the Lv 58 Dark Stone Golem.
- Two bosses spawn here. Zombie Mushmom (Lv 55) appears in The Grave of Mushmom on a 1-hour timer. Jr. Balrog (Lv 80) appears in The Cursed Sanctuary on a 3-hour timer (MapleStory Quest).
Get to Sleepywood and know the town
| Spot | Who's there | What for | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleepywood (town) | Regular Cab, Arcane Station, Mr. Oh, Chrishrama, Sabitrama, Eurek the Alchemist, Mysterious Statue | Cab out, storage (Mr. Oh), quests | MapleStory Quest, Wiki |
| Sleepywood Hotel | Hotel Receptionist | Entry to both saunas | MapleStory Quest |
| Regular Sauna | Mr. Sweatbottom | 2× recovery and the town's only potion shop (entry 499 mesos) | NiaMeowDB, Wiki, our recovery guide |
| VIP Sauna | Mr. Wetbottom | 3× recovery (entry 999 mesos) and the Secret Book quest at level 32 | NiaMeowDB, Wiki |
| Ant Tunnel Park | 24 Hr Mobile Store | Food, Return Scrolls, arrows and Subi stars mid-dungeon | NiaMeowDB |
The town connects to Sleepy Dungeon I, Ant Tunnel I, Swampy Land in a Deep Forest (toward Henesys) and the hotel. Use the Regular Cab (a flat 2,500 mesos to or from Sleepywood) or a Return Scroll to Sleepywood (600 mesos from Mr. Sweatbottom). The VIP Cab in Lith Harbor and Ellinia goes straight to Ant Tunnel Park for 10,000 mesos, one way (MapleClassic Wiki). Our travel guide lists every cab route. Mr. Oh is Sleepywood's Storage Keeper (Wiki), and his fees are in our storage guide.
Follow the Ant Tunnel route (levels 21–30)
The spawn-point counts below are MapleStory Quest's totals from the client. Maps don't fill every point, so "at once" from planet-helper is the better guide to how many monsters you'll actually see.
| Map | Monsters (level) | Spawn points | At once / EXP per clear | Max EXP/hr | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ant Tunnel I | Horny Mushroom (22), Zombie Mushroom (24) | 26 | — | — | MSQ |
| Ant Tunnel II | Zombie Mushroom, Horny Mushroom | 47 | — | — | MSQ |
| Ant Tunnel III | Zombie Mushroom ×61, Horny Mushroom ×38 | 99 | 26 / 1,130 | 1,536,786 | MSQ, planet-helper, NiaMeowDB |
| Ant Tunnel IV | Horny Mushroom ×41, Zombie Mushroom ×23 | 64 | 33 / 1,400 | — | MSQ, planet-helper |
| Dark Cave | Stirge (20) ×35 plus mushrooms | 51 | — | — | MSQ |
| Dangerous Steam | Stirge ×38 plus mushrooms | 49 | — | 671,786 | MSQ, NiaMeowDB |
| Deep Ant Tunnel I | Zombie Mushroom, Evil Eye (27), Horny Mushroom, 2 Jr. Boogie 2 (35) | 68 | 25 / 1,107 | 1,078,060 | MSQ, planet-helper, NiaMeowDB |
| Deep Ant Tunnel II | Evil Eye, mushrooms | 34 | 25 / 1,157 | — | MSQ, planet-helper |
| Ant Tunnel Park | Evil Eye ×31, Zombie Mushroom ×23, Horny Mushroom ×4 | 58 | 40 / 1,896 | 981,785 | MSQ, planet-helper, NiaMeowDB |
Some tips for this stretch:
- Change channels before you change maps. planet-helper calls the Ant Tunnel "where most players go at this level." Windia has had 40 channels since Grand Launch (Nexon), so an emptier copy is usually a few channels away.
- Potions drop more often here now. Grand Launch raised potion drops for monsters level 10 to 30, which covers Stirges, Horny and Zombie Mushrooms and Evil Eyes (Nexon).
- Clerics should use Heal here. Zombie Mushrooms are undead and take 25% extra Holy damage (NiaMeowDB). The October 15 patch fixed a client disconnect when healing party members near Zombie Mushrooms in the Ant Tunnel (Nexon); see our Cleric guide.
- Ranged classes and magicians have it easier on the Stirge maps. Stirges fly.
- Ant Tunnel Park is 0 portals from food. Ant Tunnel III is 6 portals away (NiaMeowDB).
Push through the Evil Eye caves and Drakes (levels 27–50)
| Map | Monsters (level) | Spawn points | Timed spawns | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Cave of Evil Eye I–IV | Evil Eye (27): 19 / 36 / 38 / 23 points | 21–40 | 2 Jr. Boogie 2: 5 min in I–III, 30 min in IV | MSQ |
| Drake Hunting Ground | Drake (50) ×18 | 22 | 2 Jr. Boogie 2 every 5 min | MSQ |
| The Tunnel That Lost Light I | Cold Eye (40) ×32, Drake ×20 | 52 | — | MSQ |
| The Tunnel That Lost Light II | Cold Eye ×25, Drake ×15, Wild Kargo (62) ×7 | 47 | — | MSQ |
| Drake's Meal Table | Drake ×23, Cold Eye ×22, Wild Kargo ×10 | 56 | Wild Kargo every 5 min | MSQ |
| Wild Kargo's Area | Cold Eye ×17, Wild Kargo ×14 | 31 | Wild Kargo every 2 min | MSQ; NiaMeowDB; henesys.gg (Oct 15: 14 Kargo points, up from 13) |
The Cave of Evil Eye III has 38 Evil Eye spawn points (NiaMeowDB), but planet-helper counts only 10 at once (475 EXP per clear), so it scores low despite how big it looks. NiaMeowDB still puts it at 680,206 max EXP per hour. NiaMeowDB lists Drake Hunting Ground at 885,921 max EXP per hour, 5 portals from food. For what these monsters are worth in mesos, see our 30–45 meso farming guide.
Grand Launch corrected the stagger threshold on Drake, Red Drake and Wild Kargo, which was set too low, so weak hits no longer flinch them (Nexon). The October 15 patch also moved a few spawn points in Drake's Meal Table and Wild Kargo's Area (henesys.gg).
planet-helper leaves The Tunnel That Lost Light I out of its 36–40 picks. Cold Eyes are the target there, but Lv 50 Drakes share the map. If you're a 45+ character farming Drake Skulls for Chrishrama's citizenship quest (below), Lost Light I and Drake's Meal Table hold the most Drake points (20 and 23).
Grind Sleepy Dungeon in your 50s
| Map | Monsters (level) | Spawn points | Max at once since Oct 15 | Spawn rate since Oct 15 | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sleepy Dungeon I | Horny Mushroom, Green Mushroom, Slime, Lupin (37), Curse Eye (33) | 25 | 16 (was 20) | ×0.7 (was ×0.9) | MSQ; henesys.gg |
| Sleepy Dungeon II | Horny Mushroom, Lupin, Dark Axe Stump (23) | 52 | 18 (was 21) | ×0.6 (was ×0.7) | MSQ; henesys.gg |
| Sleepy Dungeon III | Curse Eye ×19, Lupin ×12, Dark Stone Golem (58) ×9 | 45 | 16 (was 20) | ×0.5 (was ×0.6) | MSQ; henesys.gg |
| Sleepy Dungeon IV | Curse Eye ×14, Dark Stone Golem ×7, Jr. Boogie 1 and 2 | 30 | Unchanged | Unchanged | MSQ |
| Sleepy Dungeon V | Lupin ×23, Curse Eye ×23, Dark Stone Golem ×19, Jr. Necki, Jr. Boogies | 88 | 20 (was 31) | ×0.4 (was ×0.6) | MSQ; henesys.gg |
The October 15 nerf changes the rankings. henesys.gg's patch notes record the caps and spawn rates above; Nexon's notice for that patch doesn't list them. NiaMeowDB's map pages still compute Sleepy Dungeon V's ceiling from all 88 points (2.59M EXP per hour) and Sleepy Dungeon III's from 45 (1.42M), so read those as upper bounds from before the patch. planet-helper had ranked Sleepy Dungeon V second for 51–60, behind Dangerous Croko II, when both held 31 at once. By our math, a 20-monster cap cuts a full clear by about a third (11 of 31 fewer), and the slower respawn stretches the wait between clears. Sleepy Dungeon II also no longer lets players and monsters walk off-screen at its edges (Nexon, Grand Launch).
Example: a level 56 party of three that cleared 31 monsters per cycle in Sleepy Dungeon V in early October now finds 20 at most. Splitting across Sleepy Dungeon III and V on the same channel, or moving to the Kerning swamp maps in our Kerning swamp guide, keeps everyone attacking.
Know where to restock. NiaMeowDB measures Sleepy Dungeon V as 5 portals from the Cave Fairy Department Store, but that store is in Forgotten Hollow, which Nexon says opens in November; trackers give November 18. Its quest entrance is the Tree Tunnel north of Ellinia, not Sleepywood (our roadmap and Forgotten Hollow guide). Until then, by our count it's 5 portals back to Sleepywood plus the hotel and sauna, or about 7 portals to Mr. Sweatbottom's potions. Bring a full stack and a Return Scroll.
Clear the sanctuary to Jr. Balrog (levels 60–80)
| Map | Monsters (level) | Spawn points | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Another Entrance | None | 0 | Junction: Drake's Meal Table, Another Path, Lost Light II | MSQ |
| Another Path | Cold Eye ×23 | 23 | — | MSQ |
| Sanctuary Entrance I–II | Cold Eye, Tauromacis (70) ×4 | 17–19 | Tauromacis every 2 min in I; II was rebuilt lower on October 15 (henesys.gg) | MSQ |
| Sanctuary Entrance III–IV | Cold Eye, Taurospear (75) ×4–5, Tauromacis ×2 | 12–14 | Tauromacis every 1 min | MSQ |
| The Cursed Sanctuary | Jr. Balrog (80) | 1 | 3-hour respawn | MSQ |
planet-helper's view is that Wild Kargo and Tauromacis are timed spawns, not training spots. Our 50–75 meso guide still rates Tauromacis as the best meso-per-kill monster in that band. For the fight itself, see our Jr. Balrog guide.
Hunt the side areas and bosses
- The Grave of Mushmom (off Ant Tunnel Park) has Zombie Mushroom ×13, 2 Jr. Boogie 2, and Zombie Mushmom (Lv 55) on a 1-hour respawn (MSQ). Full strategy is in our Zombie Mushmom guide.
- Deep Forest, Swampy Land, Damp Forest and the Hunting Grounds in the Deep Forest are low-level maps between Sleepywood, Henesys and Perion. They hold Slime, Octopus, Jr. Necki and Green Mushroom, with Curse Eyes and Lupins in Hunting Ground II (MSQ).
- The Deep Forest of Patience (7 steps) is Sleepywood's jump quest. Step 5 has unkillable Lv 200 Super Slimes and Super Jr. Neckis (MSQ). See our jump quest guide.

Do the Horny Mushroom quest while you train. If you're working on Arcforge (see our crafting guide), An Arcforger in My Own Right! asks for 30 Horny Mushrooms, which you'll kill anyway in Ant Tunnel I–IV. The Drake Skull quests count toward Henesys citizenship. See our citizenship guide.
Shop smart inside the dungeon
| Shop | Location | Key items (launch prices) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mr. Sweatbottom | Regular Sauna | Red Potion 50, Orange 150, White 350, Blue 220, Pure Water 1,120, Return Scroll to Sleepywood 600, Nearest Town 400, Subi 500 | NiaMeowDB |

| Sleepy Dungeon V | 55–60 | Dark Stone Golems, 88 points | Capped at 20 at once since Oct 15; no potions nearby |
| Party grinding | Any | Bonus EXP, faster clears | See our party guide for the split |
Alts, returning players and Founder's Access players
- Returning players will recognize the map names and the order. What's new is the Arcforge quest line from Chrishrama and the citizenship Drake Skull quests (MSQ).
- Alts can skip the crowded Ant Tunnel Park by using Deep Ant Tunnel II (25 at once). Run the Sleepywood quests again on each character for EXP.
- Founder's Access players who trained Sleepy Dungeon V before October 15 will see fewer Golems now. Re-measure your EXP per hour before deciding it's still your best map.
- Bowmen will find an Ant Tunnel For Bowman map with the Bowman Job Instructor, Evil Eyes and Zombie Mushrooms (both Lv 30) (MSQ).

FAQ
Where is the best Ant Tunnel training map in MapleStory Classic? For levels 21–25, NiaMeowDB ranks Ant Tunnel III first and planet-helper ranks Ant Tunnel IV first. From 26 to 30, both point to Ant Tunnel Park, which holds 40 monsters at once and sells food on the map.
Does Sleepywood have a potion shop? Yes, but it's inside the Regular Sauna. Mr. Sweatbottom sells Red, Orange, White and Blue Potions, and entry costs 499 mesos (NiaMeowDB, MapleClassic Wiki). The Ant Tunnel Park Mobile Store sells only food.
What level should I be for Sleepy Dungeon V? The late 50s. Its main target is the Lv 58 Dark Stone Golem. Since October 15 it holds 20 monsters at once instead of 31 (henesys.gg), so database EXP ceilings for it are too high.
Did Sleepy Dungeon get nerfed in MapleStory Classic? Yes. On October 15, Sleepy Dungeon V's cap fell from 31 to 20 monsters and its spawn rate from ×0.6 to ×0.4; dungeons I, II and III were cut too (henesys.gg).
How often does Jr. Balrog spawn? Every 3 hours (10,800 seconds) in The Cursed Sanctuary, according to MapleStory Quest's client data. Zombie Mushmom respawns every hour in The Grave of Mushmom.
What quests can I do in Sleepywood? Chrishrama gives eight: the Arcforge line at levels 10, 15 and 25, The Faded Ink at 28, citizenship quests at 47, and the Hero's Gladius line at 50. Sabitrama gives two Forest of Patience quests, and Mr. Wetbottom starts the Secret Book at 32 (MSQ, Wiki).
