THE GUIDE

Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.

The Icarus Cape is the level 46 cape almost every character can earn on Victoria Island, from a seven-quest chain that starts at level 11 with Icarus on a Kerning City rooftop. This MapleStory Classic Icarus Cape guide lists every quest with its live reward, every item and where it drops, the subway and swamp route that collects them, Wing the Fairy's quiz answers, and which color to keep.

Quick summary

  • Seven quests, three level gates: I'm Bored 1 and 2 at 11, Icarus's Hang Glider and Icarus and the Balloon at 31, then three Flying Medicine quests at 46. All start with Icarus in Kerning City.
  • The reward is one random cape: Green (+2 DEX), Yellow (+2 Speed) or Blue (+2 INT), each a 1-in-3 roll. Every color gives +21 W.DEF, +9 M.DEF and +3 accuracy, has 5 slots, needs level 46 and is tradeable (NiaMeowDB).
  • Hardest items: 15 Stiff Feathers (low drop rate), 10 Processed Wood (Woodcrafting) and 20 untradeable Witchgrass Leaves from swamp herbs.
  • Whole chain: 40,724 EXP, 6,654 mesos, 75 Blue Potions, 10 Red Potions and 5 Meat, by our sum of NiaMeowDB's quest tracker values.
  • Not repeatable. If you roll the wrong color, trade it for the one you want.

# Quest Lv NPC Bring Reward
1 I'm Bored 1 11 Icarus (Kerning City) Answer his quiz 252 EXP, 380 mesos, 5 Meat
2 I'm Bored 2 11 Icarus 12 Tree Branch, 12 Squishy Liquid 252 EXP, 380 mesos, 10 Red + 10 Blue Potions
3 Icarus's Hang Glider 31 Icarus 10 Processed Wood, 30 Stirge Wing, 15 Stiff Feather 5,530 EXP, 994 mesos, 20 Blue Potions
4 Icarus and the Balloon 31 Icarus 10 Alligator Skin Pouch, 50 Tablecloth 5,530 EXP, 994 mesos, 20 Blue Potions
5 In search of Wing the Fairy 46 Icarus → Wing (Ellinia) Talk to Wing 7,560 EXP, 1,012 mesos
6 The Ingredients for the Flying Medicine 46 Wing the Fairy 50 Medicine With Weird Vibes, 20 Witchgrass Leaf 10,800 EXP, 1,447 mesos, 25 Blue Potions
7 Delivering the Flying Medicine 46 Wing → Icarus The Flying Medicine (given to you) 10,800 EXP, 1,447 mesos, random Icarus Cape

Rewards are from NiaMeowDB's quest tracker (for example In search of Wing the Fairy). The level 31 quests are called Icarus's Dream on some sites, and the level 46 ones Icarus and the Flying Medicine. They're the same quests. Icarus also appears on the Kerning City Community Board as a level 12 citizenship daily, which is separate from this chain; see our Kerning City guide.

Do I'm Bored 1 and 2 at level 11

  1. Talk to Icarus in Kerning City and accept I'm Bored 1. He stands on top of a building and asks three quiz questions; answering them pays 252 EXP, 380 mesos and 5 Meat.
  2. Accept I'm Bored 2 and collect 12 Tree Branches from Stumps or Dark Stumps (MapleClassic Wiki) and 12 Squishy Liquid from Slimes. The wiki names The Tree That Grew II near Ellinia as the best Slime map, then The Field South of Ellinia and Henesys Hunting Ground III.
  3. Hand them in for 252 EXP, 380 mesos and 10 each of Red and Blue Potions.

The rewards are small. You're doing these to unlock step 3, so don't skip them on a new character. The Slime maps are in our Forest Up North guide.

Example: a level 13 Magician on the Slime maps south of Ellinia gets the Squishy Liquid in a few minutes, picks up Stump branches on the side, and hands both in on the next trip to Kerning.

Prepare the level 31 items before you hit 31

You can collect quest items before the quest is open, and most of them drop from maps you'll train on anyway. Farm in this order:

Item Need Where it drops Tip
Processed Wood 10 Crafted with Woodcrafting, or bought Level 1 recipe: 10 Tree Branches + 100 mesos each (100 branches total). Level 2: 5 Firewood + 200 mesos each
Stirge Wing 30 Stirges: Transfer Area, Dangerous Steam, Dark Cave Same Stirges drop Stiff Feathers
Stiff Feather 15 Stirges; Ribbon Pigs (L Forest I, Forest East of Henesys); Pigs (Thicket Around the Beach II, A Hill West of Henesys) The slow one. Keep every feather from level 20 onward; our Kerning fields guide covers L Forest
Alligator Skin Pouch 10 Ligators: The Swamp of Despair I–III Quest item: only drops while you have the quest
Tablecloth 50 Jr. Wraiths: Line 2 <Area 1>, Line 1 <Area 2>, Line 2 <Area 2> Get 20 extra for Maya's Second Collection (Lv 30)

Drop maps are Maple Classic Guide's. Every item here belongs on our Etc keep list until the quest is done. For the woodcrafting side, see our crafting professions guide and the woodcrafting guide.

Run Icarus's Hang Glider and the Balloon at level 31

  1. Talk to Icarus at 31 and accept Icarus's Hang Glider. Answer his quiz first.
  2. Bring 10 Processed Wood, 30 Stirge Wings and 15 Stiff Feathers. Turn in for 5,530 EXP, 994 mesos and 20 Blue Potions.
  3. Accept Icarus and the Balloon. Now the Alligator Skin Pouches start dropping.
  4. Farm 10 Alligator Skin Pouches from Ligators in The Swamp of Despair, just outside Kerning City.
  5. Farm 50 Tablecloths from Jr. Wraiths on Line 2 <Area 1>.
  6. Turn in for another 5,530 EXP, 994 mesos and 20 Blue Potions.

Both quests together are about 10% of a level at 31 (Maple Classic Guide).

Take one route through the subway

Stirges and Jr. Wraiths share the same subway maps, so you can farm three items in one trip (Maple Classic Guide):

  1. Kerning City → Subway Ticketing Booth → Line 1 <Area 1> → Transfer Area: Stirges (wings and feathers).
  2. → Line 1 <Area 2>: Stirges and Jr. Wraiths (Tablecloths too).
  3. → Line 2 <Area 1>: Jr. Wraiths for the remaining Tablecloths.
  4. Back to Kerning City → The Swamp of Despair I: Ligators for the pouches once you have the Balloon quest.

If feathers are still short after the wings are done, finish them on Ribbon Pigs near Henesys rather than staying on Stirges. Our Kerning subway guide and swamp guide cover the maps.

Example: a level 30 Bandit with 9 feathers and 30 wings from earlier Stirge kills goes straight to Line 1 <Area 2>, gets the last 6 feathers and 50 Tablecloths in one session, turns in the Hang Glider at 31, then does the Ligator pouches on the walk back.

Finish the Flying Medicine quests at level 46

  1. Talk to Icarus and accept In search of Wing the Fairy. If he says "think OUTSIDE the box!", you picked the wrong dialogue option. Talk to him again (Maple Classic Guide).
  2. Go to Ellinia and talk to Wing the Fairy for 7,560 EXP.
  3. Accept The Ingredients for the Flying Medicine. Wing quizzes you. Pick "About the Flying Medicine...", then "I really need that medicine, though.", then "I wouldn't even be here if not for Icarus..." (Maple Classic Guide).
  4. Collect 50 Medicine With Weird Vibes from Wraiths in the Kerning subway.
  5. Collect 20 Witchgrass Leaves from Witch's Herb plants in the Kerning swamps.
  6. Bring both to Wing for 10,800 EXP, 1,447 mesos and 25 Blue Potions.
  7. Accept Delivering the Flying Medicine. Wing hands you the medicine.
  8. Take it to Icarus in Kerning City for 10,800 EXP, 1,447 mesos and your cape. Maple Classic Guide notes that if Icarus won't take it, try talking to Wing again.

Farm the Wraiths on the densest maps

Map Wraiths (MS-Classic count) Notes
Line 2 <Area 3> 68 Wraith-only
Line 1 <Area 4> 59 Wraith-only
Line 2 <Area 2> 57 Mixed with Jr. Wraiths
Line 1 <Area 3> 48 Mixed
B3 10 Too few for farming

Wraiths are level 48 with 2,350 HP and undead, so a Cleric's Heal damages them. They're also one of the better EXP maps on Victoria Island for this level (Maple Classic Guide). Plan to train here at 44–48 and the medicine comes on its own. Jane the Alchemist's quests also need 50 Medicine With Weird Vibes, so keep 100 if you're doing both.

Break Witch's Herbs for the leaves

Maple Classic Guide lists Witch's Herb plants on The Swamp of Despair I and II, Dangerous Croko I and Monkey Swamp I. Hit them three times from their left side. Leaves are untradeable, so you have to break the herbs yourself. The same maps have Ligators and Crocos, so stack this with Taking Out the Alligators, the Ligator quest chain whose second part pays cape scrolls (our capes guide).

Example: a level 46 Hunter trains on Line 2 <Area 3> until the 50 medicines drop (more if the Jane quests are planned), walks out to The Swamp of Despair I and II for the herbs, then flies via Ellinia to Wing and back to Kerning for the cape in one session.

Pick the right color for your job

Cape Bonus Best for If you roll it on the wrong job
Green +2 DEX Bowmen and Thieves; Warriors who need DEX for gear Keep on any physical job, or trade to a Magician for Blue
Yellow +2 Speed Anyone, for mobility Fine to keep. It still has 5 slots for scrolls
Blue +2 INT Magicians Trade it to a Magician for Green or Yellow

None is class- or gender-locked, and NiaMeowDB lists the three at equal odds (33.3% each). NPC sell price is 11,280 mesos, so a cape you don't want is usually worth more traded than sold, once your account can trade.

The 5 slots matter more than the color. Our scrolling guide and capes guide show which cape scrolls are worth using.

If you're returning, boosted, or on an alt

  • Returning at 46+ without the early quests: do I'm Bored 1 and 2, the Hang Glider and the Balloon first. At your level, Stirges and Jr. Wraiths go down fast, so these take far less time than at 31.
  • Boosted or powerleveled past 31: check your quest log for I'm Bored 2. Powerleveled characters often skip Kerning entirely. The earlier items (Stiff Feathers especially) are the part that takes time.
  • Alts: Medicine With Weird Vibes and Processed Wood are tradeable, so a main can supply them. Witchgrass Leaves and Alligator Skin Pouches are not. The cape can be traded to an alt, but each character can do the quest only once.
  • New accounts: trading opens 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15 (Nexon), so plan any cape swap or Processed Wood purchase after that.

What changed for the Icarus Cape at Grand Launch

Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) didn't change a quest in this chain or the cape's stats. These changes, from Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes and release notes, affect the farming:

Change What it means for the chain
The Murky Swamp II added in the Kerning City area, and a broken rope in The Murky Swamp fixed More swamp maps near the Witch's Herb route; see our Kerning swamp guide
More potion drops from monsters level 10–30 Slimes for I'm Bored 2 don't qualify (level 6), but Stirges, Ribbon Pigs and Jr. Wraiths do
Windia expanded to 40 channels; Lie Detector Test added Easier to find an empty Wraith map
New-account trade lock until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15 Cape swaps wait until the lock lifts
Debt System (October 22) Accounts in debt can't trade, so check before agreeing to a cape swap

Orbis and El Nath are still closed, so the Icarus Cape stays one of the best capes you can earn without a boss. The MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.

FAQ

What level is the Icarus Cape quest in MapleStory Classic? The cape part starts at 46, and the cape needs 46 to wear. You need the earlier quests from levels 11 and 31 first, all from Icarus in Kerning City.

Why can't I start In search of Wing the Fairy? You haven't finished Icarus and the Balloon, or you're under 46. The Balloon needs the Hang Glider, which needs I'm Bored 2.

Can I choose the color of the Icarus Cape? No. Green, Yellow and Blue each have a 1-in-3 chance. Trade if you want a different one.

Where do I get Witchgrass Leaves? Players report them from Witch's Herb plants in The Swamp of Despair I and II, Dangerous Croko I and Monkey Swamp I. Hit the herbs three times from the left. They're untradeable.

Is the Icarus Cape repeatable? No. One per character.

Is the Icarus Cape worth it? Yes, if you don't already have a better cape. It's a tradeable 5-slot cape for every job at 46, and the chain pays 40,724 EXP in total. Wing the Fairy, who makes the medicine, is in Ellinia town.
