Capes are a 5-slot accessory that every job can wear, and in MapleStory Classic World the good ones come from quests and Tailoring rather than shops. This MapleStory Classic capes guide lists every cape with its stats and source, the three free quest capes from level 23 to 50, the craftable Justice Capes, which cape fits each job, and every cape scroll with where to get it in the live Grand Launch game.
Quick summary
- Every cape gives weapon defense and accuracy. Most add magic defense and one main stat. No cape gives HP or MP (MapleClassic Wiki).
- Any job can wear any cape. Level is the only requirement, and every cape has 5 slots (wiki, maplestory.quest).
- Three quest capes cover levels 25 to 50: the Old Raggedy Cape (quest at 23), an Icarus Cape (46) and the Green Napoleon (quest at 47, wear at 50) (maplestory.quest).
- Start Icarus's Dream at level 31. It's the prerequisite for the Icarus Cape at 46, and players often miss it; our Icarus Cape quest guide walks the whole chain.
- Tailors can craft a Justice Cape at level 35. Each color adds a different main stat (maplestory.quest recipe data).

| 50 | Black Napoleon | 22 | — | 4 | LUK +3 | No source recorded | maplestory.quest |
| 55 | Blue / Red / White / Black Magic Cape | 24 | 12 | 4 | INT / STR / DEX / LUK +3 | Older-table drops: Wild Kargo (Red), Dark Stone Golem (Black) | maplestory.quest |
| 65 | Blue / Red / White / Black Gaia Cape | 28 | 13 | 5 | INT / STR / DEX / LUK +4 | Older-table drops: Red Drake (Red), Zombie Mushmom 4% (Black) | maplestory.quest |
These are base stats. maplestory.quest shows a roll range for dropped copies. A Green Icarus Cape, for example, rolls 0–4 DEX around its +2 base. The quests that gave Magic and Gaia Capes in the closed test aren't in the Public Release, per maplestory.quest.
Get the free quest capes
| Your level | Cape | Quest | What it takes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23 | Old Raggedy Cape | Stranger's Identity (Mystery of Niora Hospital) | Jane Doe's Kerning City chain | maplestory.quest, our quests guide |
| 31 | — | Icarus's Dream | Hang Glider and Balloon; required for the Icarus Cape | Our quests guide (wiki) |
| 46 | Green, Yellow or Blue Icarus Cape | Delivering the Flying Medicine (Wing the Fairy in Ellinia) | Finish Icarus's Dream first; the color is random | maplestory.quest; our Ellinia guide |
| 47, wear at 50 | Green Napoleon | Maya's Last Collection | 50 Stone and 50 Dark Stone Golem Rubble, per our quests guide | maplestory.quest, our quests guide |
The Old Raggedy Cape is plain, but it has 5 slots at level 25. That makes it the first cape worth scrolling. Our quests guide notes the Icarus Cape is tradeable, so a cape in the wrong color can go to the Free Market.
Craft a Justice Cape at 35
The four Justice Capes come from Tailoring, one of the six crafts. Francois teaches it in Ellinia (our crafting guide and Tailoring guide). maplestory.quest's recipe data lists Tailoring level 7 and these materials:
| Material | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Processed Cloth | 9 | Made by Tailoring from Leaves or Animal Fur Bundles (our crafting guide, Henesys.gg) |
| Spool of Thread | 21 | Same |
| Moon Rock | 1 | Crafting material |
| Gem by color | 3 | Sapphire (Blue, INT), Garnet (Red, STR), Diamond (White, DEX), Black Crystal (Black, LUK) |
A Justice Cape is a small step up from the Old Raggedy Cape: +4 weapon defense, +2 magic defense, +1 accuracy and +1 main stat. It's worth crafting if you're already leveling Tailoring. Otherwise, keep scrolling the Raggedy Cape until the Icarus Cape at 46.
Pick a cape by job
| Job | Best line | Free option | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | STR: Red Justice, Red Napoleon | Any Icarus Cape for accuracy | maplestory.quest |
| Magician | INT: Blue Justice, Blue Icarus, Blue Napoleon | Blue Icarus (1 in 3) | maplestory.quest |
| Bowman | DEX: White Justice, Green Icarus, Green Napoleon | Green Napoleon at 50 | maplestory.quest |
| Thief | LUK: Black Justice, Black Napoleon | Green Icarus or Napoleon for DEX and accuracy | maplestory.quest |
| Anyone who hates walking | Speed: Yellow Icarus, White Napoleon | Yellow Icarus (1 in 3) | maplestory.quest |
Accuracy on every cape helps jobs that miss. See our accuracy guide. DEX also raises accuracy for every job except Magicians, and henesys.gg's client data gives Warriors the most accuracy per DEX (via our accuracy guide). That's why the Green Napoleon suits more than bowmen.
Scroll your cape
There are 28 cape scrolls: STR, DEX, INT, LUK, Accuracy, Magic Defense and Weapon Defense, each in four tiers (maplestory.quest). The defense scrolls add a second stat:
| Scroll | Lesser (100%) | Intermediate (60%) | Greater (10%) | Chaos (10%, can destroy) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| STR, DEX, INT, LUK, Accuracy | +1 | +2 | +3 | +4 |
| Magic Defense | M.DEF +2 | M.DEF +4, W.DEF +2 | M.DEF +6, W.DEF +4 | M.DEF +8, W.DEF +6 |
| Weapon Defense | W.DEF +2 | W.DEF +4, M.DEF +2 | W.DEF +6, M.DEF +4 | W.DEF +8, M.DEF +6 |
The effects come from maplestory.quest. The odds match our scrolling guide, which cites the wiki. Chaos scrolls destroy the item on half of their failures.
Our expected-gain math for 5 slots of one main stat:
| Tier | Average per scroll | 5 slots |
|---|---|---|
| Lesser | +1.0 | +5, guaranteed |
| Intermediate | +1.2 | +6 on average |
| Greater | +0.3 | +1.5 on average |
Five Lesser scrolls turn a Green Icarus Cape into +7 DEX. That's more than its base stats.
Find cape scrolls

| Taking Out the Alligators 2 (Lv 48) | Intermediate cape stat scroll of your choice | NiaMeowDB; our Kerning swamp guide |
| Excavation Site skeletons | Accuracy Intermediate (Skeledog), Accuracy Greater (Skeleton Soldier), DEX Intermediate (Officer Skeleton) | NiaMeowDB; our Excavation Site guide |
| Ligator, Stirge and Lupin | STR Greater (Ligator), Magic Def. Greater (Stirge, Lupin) | NiaMeowDB |
| Matters of the Heart (Lv 45), a Forgotten Hollow quest | Cape Accuracy scroll, once Forgotten Hollow opens in November | Our quests guide; Nexon |
Drop rates for these are community records, not Nexon figures, so treat them as where to look rather than how long it takes. NiaMeowDB's Cape Weapon Def. Scroll: Lesser page shows the Tulcus, Arcforge and drop sources together.
Crafting cape stat scrolls: the STR, DEX, INT and LUK cape Lessers are Arcforge recipes at craft level 10, past the craft level 8 cap, so you can't make them yet. Their crafting fee is 20,000 mesos, up from 10,000 in the closed tests (henesys.gg).
GM events: Nexon's Grand Launch notes list Intermediate and Greater cape scrolls among the random rewards from Mr. Pickall's Magic Box, which you get by trading a Scroll of Secrets from a GM event to Chun Ji. The list also names Cape HP and Cape MP scrolls, which the community databases don't record yet.
Plan capes by level
| Level | Wear | Scroll plan |
|---|---|---|
| 23–34 | Old Raggedy Cape | Lesser main-stat or accuracy scrolls |
| 35–45 | Justice Cape if you tailor; otherwise keep the Raggedy Cape | Hold Greater scrolls for the Icarus Cape |
| 46–49 | Icarus Cape | Your main scrolling project; use the Pia and Alligators scrolls here |
| 50+ | Napoleon in your stat, or keep a well-scrolled Icarus Cape | Only switch if the Napoleon is clean and you have scrolls |
A 5-slot Icarus Cape with five Lesser scrolls can beat a clean Napoleon for most jobs. Compare the totals before you switch.
Alts and returning players
- Do Icarus's Dream on every character at 31. It's per character, and skipping it locks you out of the Icarus Cape at 46.
- Pass capes down. Capes have no job requirement (wiki), and our quests guide notes the Icarus Cape trades.
- Returning players: no HP capes. The wiki confirms no cape carries Max HP or Max MP.
Our equipment guide covers the other slots, and our earrings guide covers the other 5-slot accessory. For stat planning, see the AP build guide.

What changed for capes at Grand Launch
Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) didn't change any cape's stats or quest. Three things matter for cape players, per Nexon's Grand Launch release notes:
- The Excavation Site opened off Perion, and its skeletons drop cape Accuracy and DEX scrolls (NiaMeowDB).
- Crafting still stops at craft level 8, so the cape stat scroll recipes stay locked.
- Forgotten Hollow is still closed until November, so Matters of the Heart's Accuracy scroll waits.
Orbis and El Nath are closed too, so level 55 Magic Capes and level 65 Gaia Capes have no confirmed source in the live game. The MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.
FAQ
What's the best cape in MapleStory Classic right now? For most players, a scrolled Icarus Cape at 46, or the Green Napoleon at 50. Magic and Gaia Capes are in the item data, but no live source is confirmed.
How do I get the Icarus Cape? Do Icarus's Dream at level 31, then the Flying Medicine quest at 46. The cape is a random Green (DEX), Yellow (Speed) or Blue (INT) one, and it can be traded (maplestory.quest, our quests guide).
Where do I get the Old Raggedy Cape? From Stranger's Identity, Jane Doe's level 23 quest in Kerning City (maplestory.quest).
Can I craft capes? Yes. Tailoring makes the four level 35 Justice Capes at Tailoring level 7 (maplestory.quest).
Do capes give HP? No. The wiki says no cape carries Max HP or Max MP.
Which cape scrolls should I use? Lesser main-stat scrolls for a guaranteed +1 each, and the free Intermediate and Greater scrolls from quests on the cape you'll keep longest.
