THE GUIDE

Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.

Grand Launch opened MapleStory Classic World to everyone on October 21, 2026, and new characters are still arriving every day. This MapleStory Classic launch day leveling plan gives a crowd-aware 1–35 route with a backup for every busy map, the quests to grab on your first day, and the Grand Launch rules that change your first week, such as the new-account trade lock.

Quick summary

  • Grand Launch went live at 11:00 AM PDT (6:00 PM UTC) on October 21, 2026, after a five-hour maintenance that updated Classic World to v1.0.0 (Nexon). Founder's Access characters carried over with no wipe, so newer players share Windia with characters that started on October 6.
  • Use a crowd-aware route. Our route follows mapleclassic.guide's test-based plan: Maple Island to 8, Thicket Around the Beach to 10, then either the Henesys/Kerning route or the all-Ellinia route to 25, then Transfer Area or Damp Forest to 35. Every step has a backup map.
  • Windia now has 40 channels (Nexon), up from about 20 before launch, so changing channel is the first fix for a full map.
  • New accounts cannot trade for a while. Trading opens 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15 (Nexon), so don't plan to buy gear in the Free Market on day one.
  • Use the first-day rules that matter. Beginners lose no EXP when they die (mapleclassic.guide). Monsters from level 10 to 30 drop more potions since v1.0.0, the Kerning City Party Quest runs on Channels 3–12, and Megaphones need level 15 (Nexon).

Get ready before your first login

When Do this Why Source
Before you start Install the Nexon Launcher, sign in, find MapleStory and turn on the MapleStory Classic World toggle; on Steam, install and update MapleStory first Classic World downloads as a standalone client, and Steam shares the base game's files Nexon (Grand Launch release notes)
Before you start Plan three character ideas Each account holds up to 3 characters, and deleting one has a waiting period Nexon
Before you start Pick your first job First job is at 10, second job at 30, level cap 100, no third job yet Nexon, our job advancement guide
After any maintenance Restart the Nexon Launcher or Steam Nexon asks for a restart after each client update Nexon
At peak hours Retry login every minute or two, not nonstop On October 6, players warned that repeated attempts got IP addresses temporarily blocked maplestory-classic.com (Day Two report)
At peak hours Accept a queue; don't restart for a "better" one Nexon added channels while players waited, and people at login could be disconnected when it did maplestory.quest

Things that don't carry over: characters, names, items and Maple Points from regular MapleStory. Only your Cash Shop currency balance is shared. A ban in one game applies to both (maplestory-classic.com, citing Nexon's FAQ and its September memo).

Know what the first days look like

  • One world, 40 channels. Nexon expanded Windia to 40 channels in the v1.0.0 maintenance and ran an unscheduled maintenance on October 22 because more players arrived than expected (Nexon).
  • Crowds in the obvious places. During Founder's Access, players reported packed Henesys hunting grounds, the Slime Tree in Ellinia and the Kerning City subway (maplestory-classic.com). Free players now arrive on top of those numbers.
  • A head start that stays. Founder's Access players had two weeks, and the no-wipe rule means they keep that lead. That's why the level 20–35 maps, such as Transfer Area, filled from the first day.
  • A new area for the 20s. The Excavation Site off Perion opened at Grand Launch with Ghost Stumps (Lv 19), Wooden Masks (Lv 23) and Rocky Masks (Lv 24) (henesys.gg). It's a fresh option when Route A or B is packed; see our Excavation Site guide.
  • Events. The Journey Begins check-in runs until November 18: from level 10, take the quest from Maple Administrator and trade 30 Maple Leaves a day for rewards, starting with a Snail pet and 30 Red and Blue Potions (Nexon). At level 25, Jay in Henesys starts The Marks We Leave Behind; see our Mark of the Beta guide. Malady's Halloween quest runs from October 28 to November 18; see our Halloween event guide. The Moon Bunny's Rice Cake party quest for level 11+ is due with the November update; our Moon Bunny guide covers how to prepare.

Clear Maple Island fast (levels 1–8)

mapleclassic.guide's opening, with crowd backups:

Step Do this If it's crowded Source
1 Do the Maple Island quests up to A Split Road Skip Todd's How-to-Hunt (it's optional) mapleclassic.guide
2 Grind A Split Road to level 5. Collect 10 Blue Snail Shells for Biggs's Collection of Items Change channel; the island is small mapleclassic.guide (route), NiaMeowDB (quest)
3 At 5, do Amherst's quests. Get the 1 Orange Mushroom Cap Biggs also wants from the top right of The Field West of Amherst Use Dangerous Forest instead mapleclassic.guide (route), NiaMeowDB (quest)
4 Grind A Split Road to 8, turn in Biggs's quest, sail to Victoria Island — mapleclassic.guide

The quests mapleclassic.guide marks for this stretch: Sera's Mirror, Roger's Apple, Nina and Sen's Dinner Menu, Mai's Training, Please bring this letter to Lucas, Rain's Maple Quiz, Biggs's Collection of Items, plus the optional Todd's How-to-Hunt and Pio's Collecting Recycled Goods. For a full island walkthrough, see our Maple Island guide.

Reach level 10 and job advance (levels 8–10)

  1. In Lith Harbor, take Olaf's First Training and Teo's Weird Hobby. Our Lith Harbor guide lists every quest in town. Finish both at Thicket Around the Beach 1 (1 Slime Bubble for Teo). Try to collect 12 Squishy Liquid and 12 Tree Branches for I'm Bored 2, which opens at level 11 (NiaMeowDB).
  2. Take Olaf's Second Training and Teo's Even Weirder Hobby (1 Pig's Head) at Thicket Around the Beach 2. Grind either Thicket map to 10. mapleclassic.guide prefers map 1 for the I'm Bored items.
  3. Use death as travel. mapleclassic.guide notes that Beginners lose no EXP on death, so dying sends you back to town for free before you advance.
  4. At 10, turn in Olaf's Second Training, Teo's Even Weirder Hobby and Phil's Call in Lith Harbor.
  5. Before you job advance, pick up the next route's quests. mapleclassic.guide plans this stop while you're still a Beginner, because cabs are 90% off until you advance (NiaMeowDB):
  • Henesys/Kerning route: Don Hwang's Request (Nella charges 1,000 mesos to accept it, NiaMeowDB) and JM From tha Streetz Looking for a Partner in Kerning City. The worst case is 1,820 mesos.
  • All-Ellinia route: The Stump Horror Story and Silas Irons in Need of an Apprentice in Perion.
  1. Job advance.

Choose your 10–25 route by how crowded it is

mapleclassic.guide says the two routes give about the same EXP, so pick by crowding:

Route A: Henesys and Kerning Route B: all Ellinia
Maps Mushroom Garden (to 12) → The Rain Forest East of Henesys (to 14) → Caution Falling Down or Northern Top of Construction Site (to 20) → Horny Mushroom Tree (to 25) Slime Tree → Forest of Wisdom → Horny Mushroom Tree
Strength More quests done, so more early mesos Less travel, and bigger maps cope better with crowds (Forest of Wisdom, for example)
Weakness Many small maps that were packed in the tests Fewer quests, so less money for level 20 gear
Pick it when Off-peak hours, when the small maps have room Peak hours, when every small map is full
Source mapleclassic.guide mapleclassic.guide

Note that players reported the Slime Tree, the first stop on Route B, as crowded in Founder's Access (maplestory-classic.com). If it's full on every channel you try, go straight to the larger Forest of Wisdom; our Ellinia South guide compares both maps.

Route A milestones (mapleclassic.guide's route; quest item counts from NiaMeowDB):

  • 10–14: Take The Reason Behind the Mushroom Studies in Henesys. Grind Mushroom Garden to 12 (10 Mushroom Spores, 20 Orange Mushroom Caps), then The Rain Forest East of Henesys to 14 (10 Pig's Ribbons, 5 Leather).
  • Level 12–13 errands: Start Citizenship and do To Henesys, the Prairie Town, then To the Gray City, Kerning City. Finish Welcome to the Free Market! and turn in the Kerning quests. See our Citizenship guide. Casey's seven minigame quests in Henesys Park also open at 12 and pay 334 EXP and 409 mesos each; see our Omok and Match Cards guide.
  • 14–20: Caution Falling Down or Northern Top of Construction Site. Bring at least one party member who can hit Blue Mushrooms. Archers, Magicians and DEX Warriors have the accuracy for a 100% hit rate at 14. Collect 20 Octopus Legs and 50 Blue Mushroom Caps. If the map is full, The Blue Mushroom Forest works for the Blue Mushroom kill counts.
  • 20–25: Horny Mushroom Tree, with Father's Mushroom Stew, I Need Help on My Homework! and the mushroom quest turn-ins. Grand Launch also added Pia's Old Snail chain in Henesys at level 20 (henesys.gg).

Paying for the route. Most of your early mesos come from quest rewards and NPC sales, not rare drops. Our 10–30 meso farming guide lists the drops worth keeping along both routes.

Pick Transfer Area or Damp Forest (levels 20/25–35)

Transfer Area Damp Forest
Who Ranged jobs, parties of 2–4 Parties of 4 (2 bottom, 1 middle, 1 top)
Strength Only Stirges, which have a great HP-to-EXP ratio; drops Iron Ore Less kill-stealing because a solo player can't run it well; steady EXP; drops Lemons and Blue Potions
Weakness Always full in the tests and expected to be packed at launch; spawn cut to 0.7x Needs four people; far from town; weak drops
Launch-week pick Only with a party that already owns a channel The better default while Founder's Access players fill Transfer Area
Source NiaMeowDB (spawns), mapleclassic.guide mapleclassic.guide

Ranged jobs can leave Horny Mushroom Tree for Transfer Area once they mostly one-shot Stirges. Players heading to Damp Forest should stay until 25. mapleclassic.guide says the fastest way to Damp Forest is from Perion, so buy Warrior Potions there if you need them. Do the Kerning City Party Quest at least once for Proof of Companionship. It needs level 21, and the launch data sets no level cap on it. Since v1.0.0, KPQ runs on Channels 3–12, up from 3–7 (Nexon). See our KPQ guide. Transfer Area is covered map by map in our Kerning Subway guide.

Use a backup for every crowded map

Route map Crowd backup Why it works Source
The Field West of Amherst Dangerous Forest Same Orange Mushroom Cap mapleclassic.guide
Slime Tree Forest of Wisdom Larger map, handles crowds mapleclassic.guide
Caution Falling Down Northern Top of Construction Site, or The Blue Mushroom Forest Same Blue Mushrooms; Dark Stumps for quests mapleclassic.guide
Transfer Area Damp Forest with a party of 4 Hard to kill-steal, steady EXP mapleclassic.guide
Henesys hunting grounds Any Route B map Reported packed in Founder's Access maplestory-classic.com
Kerning City subway Damp Forest or Ant Tunnel later Reported packed in Founder's Access maplestory-classic.com, mapleclassic.guide
Any 19–25 map Excavation Site I–III (Perion) New at Grand Launch, so fewer players know the spawns henesys.gg

Changing channel is the first fix. Windia has 40 channels since v1.0.0 (Nexon), and every channel has the same spawns. For how party size and map capacity work, read our party grinding guide.

Compare launch-day approaches

Approach Best for Strength Weakness
Play off-peak (morning in your region) Players who want empty channels Fresh channels before the evening peak Fewer people to party with
Play at peak (evenings, weekends) Players who want parties and a busy Free Market Easy to find a KPQ party Every early map is busy; expect queues after maintenance
Party from level 10 Friends logging in together Party bonus of 30% from 4 players, more when everyone hits the same mob (NiaMeowDB) Coordination; small maps can't fit a party
Solo, Route B Solo players at peak times Bigger maps, less travel Fewer quest mesos

NiaMeowDB's party formula: 2 players on the map get a 10% bonus, 3 get 20%, and 4–6 get 30%. Each extra member who damaged the monster adds another 5%, up to 55% for six. Add players only if the party's average kill rate doesn't drop.

Restock and quest stop points

Stop Do this Source
Lv 10, Lith Harbor Turn in the Lith Harbor quests; pick up next-route quests while still a Beginner mapleclassic.guide
Lv 12–14 Citizenship start (Lv 12), Free Market quest chain (Lv 13) NiaMeowDB
Lv 20 Jane and the Mushroom (random 60% weapon scroll) NiaMeowDB
Lv 15, plus 24 hours Trading unlocks on a new account Nexon
Lv 21+ Proof of Companionship via KPQ (60% earring scroll) NiaMeowDB
Lv 23+ Stranger's Request, then Stranger's Identity (Old Raggedy Cape) NiaMeowDB

For potion budgets, see our potions guide. For the full first week, see our first-week checklist. For levels 35–70, see our training guide.

Alts, returning players and Founder's Access players

  • Founder's Access players making an alt: Your main's mesos can buy the alt's potions, because the trade lock applies to new accounts, not new characters on an existing one. Run the alt on Route B while new players crowd Route A.
  • Returning players: Nexon has said Classic World isn't a one-to-one remake (maplestory.quest, Nexon interview). Between the last closed test and Founder's Access alone, NiaMeowDB's changelog counts 246 changed quests, 108 maps renamed or restocked, and reworked skills such as Final Attack and Bless. Don't trust 2005 route memories.
  • Want a target to race? Our world-first party plan covers a competitive party setup.
  • Megaphones: Since Grand Launch, every Megaphone item needs level 15. Megaphones that were already in your inventory keep the level 10 requirement (Nexon).
  • Don't buy mesos. Since October 22, accounts caught in real-money trading carry a meso debt that blocks trading, shops, gifting and dropping items until it's repaid (Nexon).

What changed for new players at Grand Launch

Nexon's Grand Launch release notes and v1.0.0 maintenance notes changed this route in five ways:

Change Effect on a 1–35 route
Potion drop rate raised for monsters Lv 10–30 Fewer potion trips through the whole route
Windia expanded to 40 channels Easier to find an open map
KPQ moved to Channels 3–12 More KPQ rooms for Proof of Companionship
New-account trade lock (24 hours after Lv 15) No Free Market buying on the first day
Excavation Site and Pia's Old Snail chain added A new 19–25 map and a new level 20 quest

Crafting opens at level 10 and still stops at craft level 8; Forgotten Hollow opens in November, and Orbis, El Nath and 3rd job are still closed. The MapleStory Classic hub lists every guide for the game.

FAQ

When did MapleStory Classic World launch? Grand Launch went live at 11:00 AM PDT (6:00 PM UTC) on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, on v1.0.0 (Nexon). Anyone can play; no Founder's Package is needed.

Is there a wipe after Founder's Access? No. Founder's Access characters and progress carried into Grand Launch.

How many worlds and channels are there? One world, Windia, with 40 channels since Grand Launch (Nexon).

When can a new account trade? 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15 (Nexon). Until then, sell to NPCs.

Which leveling route is best on launch day? At peak hours, the all-Ellinia route (Slime Tree, Forest of Wisdom, Horny Mushroom Tree), because its maps are bigger. mapleclassic.guide says both routes give about the same EXP.

Should I go to Transfer Area or Damp Forest? In launch week, Damp Forest with a party of four is the steadier pick. Transfer Area was always full in the tests and had its spawn cut.

Do Beginners lose EXP when they die? No, according to mapleclassic.guide. That lets you use death as free travel before level 10.
