THE GUIDE

Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.

This MapleStory Classic Rocky Mountain guide covers the two roads out of Perion: the West and East Rocky Mountains, the Rocky Roads, the Domains, and Parched Land, the map Grand Launch opened for the Stumpy field boss. For each map you get spawns, EXP per clear and the level it suits, plus Winston's quests and the Warrior 2nd job test.

Quick summary

  • Perion has 19 Rocky Mountain-area maps on two roads: West Rocky Mountain I–IV and East Rocky Mountain I–VII, plus Rocky Road I–III, two Domains and two Street Corners (MapleStory Quest).
  • West Rocky Mountain III is the 11–15 pick. It has 32 Green Mushrooms on 67 spawn points, and NiaMeowDB ranks it second in that bracket at 572,857 max EXP per hour.
  • East Rocky Mountain VII is a hidden 40s map. It has 22 Copper Drakes and 20 Fire Boars. By our math that's 4,199 EXP per clear, more than Dangerous Valley's ~2,650.
  • Winston on East Rocky Mountain II starts a Lv 17 fossil chain: 25 Green Mushrooms, 25 Axe Stumps and 24 fossils for 982 EXP, 555 mesos and 15 Blue Potions.
  • Warriors take their Lv 30 Test of Qualification here. The Warrior Job Instructor sits on West Rocky Mountain IV and asks for 30 Dark Marbles.
  • New at Grand Launch: Parched Land, reached from East Rocky Mountain V, holds Stumpy, a level 35 field boss. Winston starts its quest chain at level 34 (Nexon; henesys.gg).

Walk the two roads out of Perion

Road Route (MapleStory Quest connections) Ends at
West Perion → West Street Corner of Perion → West Rocky Mountain I → II → III → IV Dead end at IV (Warrior Job Instructor)
West branch West Rocky Mountain I → West Domain of Perion Construction Site North of Kerning City
East Perion → Perion Street Corner → East Rocky Mountain I → II → … → VII Dead end at VII
East branch East Rocky Mountain I → Rocky Road I → II → III → East Domain of Perion The Forest North of Ellinia, The Land of Wild Boar II
Boar branch Perion Street Corner → Land of Wild Boar Burnt Land side
Stumpy branch (new) East Rocky Mountain V (hidden portal, far left) → Parched Land Dead end; Stumpy's map

The East Domain of Perion links to Ellinia's north forest. That's the route Winston's fossil delivery uses. Grand Launch also opened the Excavation Site, which henesys.gg places off the East Domain of Perion; see our Excavation Site guide. Our Perion guide covers the town at the center of both roads. For the maps past Land of Wild Boar, see our Burnt Land and Dangerous Valley guide.

Spawn points and mob rates are from MapleStory Quest. EXP per clear is our calculation: each spawn point's EXP added once.

Parched Land (new) 10 5 Axe Stump, 2 Dark Axe Stump, 2 Jr. Boogie, Stumpy ×1.0 384 without Stumpy Stumpy quest only

East Rocky Mountain VI had the biggest change: its mob rate went from ×0.8 to ×1.6 in the Public Release, so it respawns twice as densely as in the second test. NiaMeowDB's live map pages show the same ×0.9, ×1.2, ×1.6 and ×0.8 rates for East Rocky Mountain IV to VII after Grand Launch. Parched Land's spawns come from the MapleClassic Wiki and NiaMeowDB; its EXP per clear counts the nine regular monsters.

Copper Drake 45 2,595 107 15 / 15 Fire strong, ice weak 92 at 45, 110 at 40 NiaMeowDB

Public Release change (MapleStory Quest): Green Mushroom is no longer flagged undead (it was in the second closed test), and its knockback threshold dropped from 30 to 25. A Cleric's Heal won't damage it now. Stumps were unchanged.

Grand Launch change (Nexon): Copper Drake's stagger threshold was set too low and was raised in v1.0.0, so weak hits no longer flinch it. Potion drops also rose for monsters level 10 to 30, which covers every stump and boar here.

For how these accuracy numbers work, see our accuracy guide. Our monster list has every other monster in the game.

Pick your map by level

These picks are ours, built from the table above:

Level Map Why
5–10 West Street Corner of Perion or East Rocky Mountain I Stumps and snails, close to town
11–16 West Rocky Mountain III 32 Green Mushrooms; NiaMeowDB calls it "roughly 2x the EXP/hr of the East-side equivalent"
10–14, alternate West Domain of Perion planet-helper's 11–15 pick for Perion starters
17–20 East Rocky Mountain III, then IV Axe Stumps, then Dark Axe Stumps
21–25 East Rocky Mountain V 25 Dark Axe Stumps, mob rate raised to ×1.2
24–30 East Rocky Mountain VI Fire Boars mixed in, mob rate ×1.6
38–45 East Rocky Mountain VII 22 Copper Drakes on 57 points

At 30, most players move to The Burnt Land or the routes in our training guide. Come back to East Rocky Mountain VII once you can one- or two-shot Fire Boars.

Do the Rocky Mountain quests

Winston's fossil chain (MapleStory Quest):

Quest Level Needs Reward
Searching for Fossils 17+ 25 Green Mushrooms, 25 Axe Stumps, 12 Plant Fossils, 12 Animal Fossils 982 EXP, 555 mesos, 15 Blue Potions
Delivering a Box of Fossils 17+ Take Winston's Recommendation and the Fossil Box to Betty in Ellinia 982 EXP, 555 mesos, 15 Eggs
Next steps 17+ Research on Plant Fossils, Research on Animal Fossils (Betty), Transporting Drake's Skull (Anne) 982 EXP each listed

MapleStory Quest has no drop source for Plant Fossil or Animal Fossil in its data yet. The Public Release cut Searching for Fossils from 1,104 to 982 EXP but raised mesos from 497 to 555. The delivery quest went up from 772 to 982 EXP. Its 9-portal route to Betty runs East Rocky Mountain II → I → Rocky Road I–III → East Domain of Perion → The Forest North of Ellinia → Ellinia.

Winston's Stumpy chain (new at Grand Launch): at level 34, Winston on East Rocky Mountain II also starts Truth of the Rumor, the first of eight steps that end with killing Stumpy on Parched Land. The chain sends you around Perion and to Betty in Ellinia, asks for 100 Very Dry Branches, and pays about 25,600 EXP in total plus a Gloves Crit. Rate Scroll: Chaos (henesys.gg; maplestory.quest). Our Stumpy boss guide walks through every step and the fight.

Warrior 2nd job test (MapleStory Quest):

Step Detail
Finding the Instructor The prerequisite quest. West Rocky Mountain IV has a Warrior Job Instructor, and the test quests come from the instructor inside Warrior's Rocky Mountain
Test of Qualification (Lv 30+) Collect 30 Dark Marbles in Warrior's Rocky Mountain, a hidden map with 15 Fire Boars and 15 Lupins, both scaled to Lv 30 and 56 EXP

Compare Rocky Mountain with other maps

Map Monsters EXP per clear (ours) Better when
West Rocky Mountain III Green Mushroom 14 1,604 You start in Perion
Kerning City Subway Line 1 Area 1 Bubbling 15 NiaMeowDB: 640,000 max EXP/hr You start in Kerning
East Rocky Mountain VII Copper Drake 45, Fire Boar 32 4,199 You want drakes without walking to Dangerous Valley
Dangerous Valley Copper Drake 45, Fire Boar 32 ~2,650 You're already at the Burnt Land

NiaMeowDB lists Dangerous Valley at 946,786 max EXP per hour but doesn't rank East Rocky Mountain VII. By spawn count, VII has 22 Copper Drakes to Dangerous Valley's 13.

Know which numbers are firm

The spawn counts and mob rates come from the client map data, so they're firm. Two things aren't:

  • Drop rates. The Tree Branch, Green Mushroom Cap and Firewood rates above are older-version reference figures (MapleStory Quest lists Firewood at 20%; NiaMeowDB's OSMLib table says 40%). Classic World's real rates are server-side.
  • Ore drops. Stumps, Axe Stumps and Fire Boars all drop crafting ore at community-recorded rates; our ore guide lists them.
  • Fossil drops. No database has a drop source for Plant Fossil or Animal Fossil yet. If one stump type gives you fossils, note it; you'll need 12 of each.

The two 11–15 picks don't conflict. West Rocky Mountain III has more Green Mushrooms (32 to 14), so it wins when it's quiet; West Domain of Perion is the backup when it's crowded. Windia's 40 channels since Grand Launch make a quiet channel easier to find.

If you're making alts or coming back

  • New Warriors: you'll start in Perion. Run West Rocky Mountain III at 11, then the East road. The 2nd job test is back on West Rocky Mountain IV at 30.
  • Non-Warrior alts: walking from Kerning, West Domain of Perion is the first map you reach through Construction Site North of Kerning City.
  • Returning testers: East Rocky Mountain V and VI now spawn faster (×1.2 and ×1.6). Green Mushrooms aren't undead anymore, and Parched Land is new.
  • Fossil quest alts: do Winston's chain early. It rewards 15 Blue Potions and starts the Ellinia fossil quests.

What changed at Grand Launch on the Rocky Mountains

Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) changed these Rocky Mountain details, per Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notice and henesys.gg:

Change What it means here
Parched Land and Stumpy (Lv 35 field boss) added off East Rocky Mountain V A new boss and quest chain from Winston at 34
Excavation Site added off the East Domain of Perion New training maps with monsters level 19–24 and 44–73
Copper Drake stagger threshold corrected East Rocky Mountain VII's drakes don't flinch from weak hits
Potion drop rate raised for monsters Lv 10–30 More free potions from stumps and boars
Field boss respawns more randomized Stumpy's hour is a floor, not a schedule
Windia expanded to 40 channels Easier to find an empty West Rocky Mountain III
Warrior HP Recovery +20–50%, Iron Body +20–40% Cheaper potion bills for Warriors on the East road

The October 15 patch had already fixed invisible platforms on West Rocky Mountain IV, where the Warrior Job Instructor stands (Nexon). Our patch notes tracker has the full list, and the MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best Rocky Mountain map for levels 11–15? West Rocky Mountain III. It has 32 Green Mushrooms on 67 spawn points (MapleStory Quest), and NiaMeowDB rates it at 572,857 max EXP per hour.

Where is Winston in MapleStory Classic? On East Rocky Mountain II, the second map on Perion's east road. He gives Searching for Fossils and Delivering a Box of Fossils at level 17 (MapleStory Quest).

Where do Warriors take the 2nd job test? Head to the Warrior Job Instructor on West Rocky Mountain IV, which leads into Warrior's Rocky Mountain. The Test of Qualification asks for 30 Dark Marbles from Warrior's Rocky Mountain (MapleStory Quest).

Is East Rocky Mountain VII worth it? For 38–45, yes by our math. It has 22 Copper Drakes and 20 Fire Boars for 4,199 EXP per clear, but it's a dead end with one portal.

Where is Parched Land in MapleStory Classic? Off East Rocky Mountain V, through a hidden portal at the far left of the map. It's Stumpy's map, added at Grand Launch, and it only connects back to East Rocky Mountain V (NiaMeowDB).

Where do I get Plant Fossils and Animal Fossils? MapleStory Quest has no drop source for either yet. Classic World's drop tables are server-side, so it only fills in sources players report.
