Hats are the cheapest armor upgrade in MapleStory Classic World: every job's town shop sells them, and every hat has 7 scroll slots. This MapleStory Classic hats guide lists the best hat for each job from level 5 to 50, what each shop stocks and charges, how warriors upgrade helmets with Smithing, which quest and event hats are worth chasing, and where hat accuracy scrolls come from.
Quick summary
- Every hat has 7 upgrade slots (maplestory.quest, NiaMeowDB). Only the 10-slot overall has more.
- Town shops sell job hats through level 25, except for Magicians. Harry, Sam and Don Hwang top out at a 4,500-meso level 25 hat; Serabi's magician hats stop at the level 20 Wizardry Hat for 3,600 mesos (NiaMeowDB's recorded inventories).
- Warrior helmets can be upgraded with Smithing. You turn a shop helmet plus ingots into a version with magic defense, +1 accuracy and HP or MP (maplestory.quest).
- The Mark of the Beta is the event hat to get: all stats +1, 15 Weapon DEF and 7 slots, untradeable, from a level 25 quest chain that ends November 18 at 11:59 PM UTC (Nexon, NiaMeowDB).
- Hat scrolls add accuracy, HP or MP. Hat Accuracy is the one that helps damage, through hit rate. Tulcus sells all three Lessers for 20,000 mesos each.
Know how hats work
| Rule | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Slots | 7 on every hat | maplestory.quest |
| Stats | Weapon DEF plus a stat, accuracy, or HP/MP; magician hats add magic DEF | maplestory.quest |

| Scrolls | Hat Accuracy, Hat HP, Hat MP | maplestory.quest |
| Shop cap | Town shops stop at level 25 (level 20 for magician hats) | NiaMeowDB shop inventories; our equipment guide |

Best hat by job: shop hats from 10 to 25
| Lv | Warrior (Harry, Perion) | Magician (Serabi, Ellinia) | Bowman (Sam, Henesys) | Thief (Don Hwang, Kerning) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Bronze Koif: DEX +1, ACC +1 | Brown Apprentice Hat: INT +1 | Green Winter Hat: DEX +1 | Black Ghetto Beanie: LUK +1 |
| 12 | Bronze Helmet: DEX +1, ACC +1, HP +2 | — | — | — |
| 15 | Bronze Full Helm: DEX +1, ACC +1, HP +5 | Brown Moon Conehat: INT +1, HP +5 | Green Feather Hat: DEX +1, HP +5 | Black Thief Hood: LUK +1, HP +5 |
| 20 | Bronze Viking Helm: DEX +2, ACC +2 (or Bronze Football Helmet: STR +2) | Blue Wizardry Hat: INT +1, MP +10 (or Green: LUK +2) | Green Robin Hat: DEX +2 | Black Loosecap: LUK +2 |
| 22 | Steel Sharp Helm: DEX +2, ACC +2 | — | — | — |
| 25 | Iron Burgonet Helm: DEX +2, ACC +2, HP +5 | No shop hat; keep the Wizardry Hat or use a quest hat | Green Hunter: DEX +2, HP +5 | Dark Tiberian: LUK +2, HP +5 |
Stats are from maplestory.quest. Prices are NiaMeowDB's recorded launch inventories: 1,200 mesos at 10, 1,400 for the Bronze Helmet, 1,800 to 1,900 at 15, 3,600 at 20, 3,900 at 22 and 4,500 at 25. Sam is the armor seller in the Henesys Weapon Store, Harry in the Perion Weapon Store and Don Hwang in Kerning City's Self-Defence Item Store; town maps are in our Henesys and Kerning City guides.
Example: a level 25 Magician has no shop upgrade past the level 20 Wizardry Hat. The Brown Bamboo Hat from Teo's quest (ACC +1, HP +10) or a Starry Bandana (INT +2, HP +5, Tailoring 5) are the realistic next steps until a level 30 drop or a Pride hat.
Each tier also has HP and MP colors. For example, the Red Hunter gives HP +25 and the Blue Hunter MP +25 (maplestory.quest). Take an HP color if you die often. Take the main-stat color otherwise.
Upgrade warrior helmets with Smithing
Warrior helmets have a crafted twin. Each recipe takes the shop or drop helmet plus ingots or gems (maplestory.quest):
| Result | Lv | Recipe | Craft level | Gain over the base helmet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal Koif | 10 | Bronze Koif + 2 Iron Ingots | Smithing 1 | Magic DEF +3, ACC +1 more, HP +10 |
| Steel Helmet | 12 | Bronze Helmet + 2 Iron Ingots | Smithing 2 | Magic DEF +5, ACC +1 more, HP +10 more |
| Steel Full Helm | 15 | Bronze Full Helm + ingots | Smithing 3 | Magic DEF +7, ACC +1 more, HP +10 more |
| Iron Viking Helm | 20 | Bronze Viking Helm + ingots | Smithing 4 | Magic DEF +9, ACC +1 more, HP +10 |
| Gold Burgonet Helm | 25 | Iron Burgonet Helm + ingots | Smithing 5 | Magic DEF +13, ACC +1 more, HP +10 more |
| Great Red Helmet | 35 | Great Brown Helmet + 7 Garnets | Smithing 7 | Magic DEF +17, ACC +1 more, HP +10 more |
| Gold Nordic Helm | 40 | Steel Nordic Helm + ingots | Smithing 8 | Magic DEF +19, ACC +1 more, HP +10 |
| Silver Crusader Helm | 50 | Bronze Crusader Helm + 12 Silver Ingots | Smithing 10 | Magic DEF +23, ACC +1 more, HP +10 |
The Mithril versions trade the HP for MP +10. The upgrade keeps the base helmet's level. Crafting stops at craft level 8 in the live game (NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg), so the upgrades stop at the level 40 Gold Nordic Helm and the Silver Crusader Helm can't be made yet. Our Smithing guide covers leveling the craft and our crafting guide the system as a whole.

| Brown Bamboo Hat | 25 | ACC +1, HP +10 | Delivering the Weird Medicine, Teo, level 21+ | maplestory.quest |
| Starry Bandanas | 25 | STR, INT or LUK +2, HP +5 | Tailoring 5 | maplestory.quest |

| Bronze, Steel, Golden Pride | 30 | INT +2 to +3, magic DEF, MP or HP +10 | Smithing 6 | maplestory.quest |
For magicians, the Pride hats are the only crafted INT hats at 30, and they fit any job (maplestory.quest). maplestory.quest shows no magician-only hat recipe past level 10. The full Mark of the Beta chain is in our Mark of the Beta guide.
Find hats from 30 to 50
Above 25, hats come from drops, other players and crafting.
| Lv | Warrior | Magician | Bowman | Thief |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | Jousting Helmet: DEX +3, ACC +3 | Brown Jester: INT +3 | Green Hawkeye: DEX +3 | Dark Guise: LUK +3 |
| 35 | Great Brown Helmet: DEX +3, ACC +3, HP +5 | Brown Matty: INT +3, HP +5 | Green Pole-Feather Hat: DEX +3, HP +5 | Dark Burgler: LUK +3, HP +5 |
| 40 | Steel Nordic Helm: DEX +4, ACC +4 | Brown Guiltian: INT +4 | Green Distinction: DEX +4 | Dark Pilfer: LUK +4 |
| 50 | Bronze Crusader Helm: DEX +5, ACC +5 | Aqua Golden Circlet: INT +5 | Green Maro: DEX +5 | Brown Sonata: LUK +5 |
Stats are from maplestory.quest, which lists most of these only as older-version drops with different rates. Our equipment guide cites the wiki gear guides for two leads: Curse Eyes drop the Great Brown Helmet and Green Matty, and Fire Boars drop the Red Matty and Red Guiltian. Check the Free Market before you farm.
Hat accuracy scrolls and other hat scrolls
| Scroll | Lesser (100%) | Intermediate (60%) | Greater (10%) | Chaos (10%, 50% destroy on failure) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hat Accuracy | ACC +1 | +2 | +3 | +4 |
| Hat HP | HP +10 | +15 | +20 | +25 |
| Hat MP | MP +10 | +15 | +20 | +25 |
Effects and odds are from maplestory.quest and match NiaMeowDB's item pages.
| Source | Scroll | Cited by |
|---|---|---|
| Tulcus, The Swamp of Despair II | Hat Accuracy, HP and MP Lesser, 20,000 mesos each | NiaMeowDB shop and item pages |
| Pia and the Blue Mushroom (level 16) | One hat accuracy scroll: Lesser, Intermediate or Greater (33% each) | NiaMeowDB quest rewards; our scrolling guide |
| Companion's Magic Box (Kerning City Party Quest) | Hat Accuracy Scroll: Greater among its prizes | NiaMeowDB; our KPQ guide |
| Jr. Wraith, Mushmom (reference drops) | Hat HP Scroll: Greater (Jr. Wraith), Hat HP Scroll: Intermediate (Mushmom) | NiaMeowDB's old MapleSEA reference list, not confirmed in Classic |
The quests that reward Intermediate and Greater hat HP and MP scrolls are El Nath quests, and a Hat Accuracy reward comes from a Forgotten Hollow quest, so neither is available while those areas are closed (NiaMeowDB). Tulcus stands in the swamp covered by our Kerning swamp guide.
Our math for 7 slots: seven Lesser Accuracy scrolls give a guaranteed +7 accuracy for 140,000 mesos at Tulcus. Seven Intermediates average +8.4. Seven Lesser HP scrolls give +70 HP. If you're missing monsters, our accuracy guide shows how much accuracy you need.
Plan hats by level
| Level | Plan |
|---|---|
| 5–9 | Natasha's 600-meso headbands |
| 10–19 | Job hat from your town shop; warriors can craft the Metal Koif with Smithing 1 |
| 15+ | Estelle's quest for the Ribboned Pig Headband (ACC +2 at level 27) |
| 21+ | Teo's quest for the Brown Bamboo Hat |
| 25 | Mark of the Beta (event, before November 18), or the level 25 shop hat |
| 30–40 | Player market or drops; warriors upgrade with Smithing |
Alts and returning players
- Alts: the Mark of the Beta chain is per character and level 25+, and the hat can't be traded, so plan alts to reach 25 before November 18 at 11:59 PM UTC (Nexon).
- Any-job hats like Baseball Caps and Bandanas suit alts that haven't picked a job.
- Returning players: shop names and hats will look familiar, but warrior Smithing upgrades and the Pride hats are new crafting content (maplestory.quest). Pair this page with our shoes and gloves guides.

What changed for hats at Grand Launch
Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) didn't change a shop hat's stats or price. The changes that matter for hats, from Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes and release notes:
| Change | What it means for hats |
|---|---|
| Green Jester Hat fixed to its intended +18 Magic Defense | The level 30 magician drop hat now shows the right stat; check secondhand ones |
| KPQ expanded to channels 3–12, and its Companion's Magic Box prize list was trimmed for gem ores | More KPQ runs, so more chances at a Greater hat accuracy scroll |
| Equipment bonus stats now show in the Character Stats window | You can see what a scrolled hat adds without doing the math |
| The Marks We Leave Behind runs October 21 to November 18 | The last window for the Mark of the Beta that's been announced |
| Crafting still stops at craft level 8 | Warrior helmet upgrades stop at level 40 |
| New accounts can't trade until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15 | Buying a drop hat waits for the lock to lift |
The Halloween Mystery Fashion Crate (October 28 to November 4) sells cosmetic hats only; they don't replace your stat hat. Orbis and El Nath are still closed, which is why some hat scroll quests are out of reach. The MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.
