MapleStory Classic Speed Guide: Movement, Jump, Haste, Speed Cap
MapleStory Classic speed and jump: walk speed by Speed stat, the 140 cap, Haste, Speed Potions, shoes and scrolls, jump height, climbing, map crossing.

In this guide 13 sections
Quick summary
- Speed caps at 140 and Jump at 120. Anything above that does nothing (NiaMeowDB, MapleClassic Wiki).
- Classic World moves faster than old MapleStory: NiaMeowDB measured 150 px/s at the base Speed of 100, because "MapleStory Classic World adds 20 Speed behind the scenes." The wiki's client value is 125 px/s. The two numbers come from different methods: NiaMeowDB timed footage, the wiki read the client file.
- Thieves reach the cap easiest: max Haste (+30), a Speed Potion (+8), and shoes with +2 Speed hit 140. Everyone else needs a Red Whip or a GM event buff (NiaMeowDB).
- Haste is a party buff: Assassins and Bandits give +30 Speed and +10 Jump to the party at level 20 (wiki), but the two versions don't stack.
- Speed doesn't change attack speed. That's a weapon stat (NiaMeowDB, wiki).
Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.
Know how Speed works
NiaMeowDB's formula: walking speed = 125 × (Speed + 20) ÷ 100 pixels per second. Each point of Speed adds 1.25 px/s.
| Speed | Walking speed | Faster than base | Old MapleStory equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 (base) | 150 px/s | — | 120 |
| 110 | 162.5 px/s | 8% | 130 |
| 120 | 175 px/s | 17% | 140 |
| 130 | 187.5 px/s | 25% | 150 |
| 140 (cap) | 200 px/s | 33% | 160 |
The wiki reads the client's base walk value as 125 px/s at 100 Speed and treats Speed as a percentage of it. Under the wiki's number, Speed 140 would be 175 px/s. NiaMeowDB measured footage; the wiki read the file. Both agree on the cap and that a point of Speed is worth the same for every class.
Jump: both sources say a standing jump at 100 Jump rises 77 px. NiaMeowDB says Jump works "the old way," but its cap dropped from 123 to 120.
Stack your Speed sources
| Source | Speed | Jump | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haste (Assassin, Bandit) | +10 to +30 | +1 to +10 | Party buff; 100 to 300 sec; 15 to 35 MP | Wiki, NiaMeowDB |
| GM's Blessing of Wind | +30 | +10 | Event buff; 60 min or until you log out | NiaMeowDB |
| Red Whip | +15 | — | Level 35 one-handed sword, every class | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
| Nimble Feet | +10 | — | Beginner skill, all classes; 10/20/30 sec; 3 min cooldown | Wiki, NiaMeowDB |
| Speed Potion | +8 | — | 10 min | Wiki, NiaMeowDB |
| Shoes | +1 to +4 | +1 to +4 | Level 70 shoes carry +4; 5 upgrade slots | NiaMeowDB |
| White Napoleon (cape, Lv 50) | +3 (NiaMeowDB) or +2 (wiki) | — | Sources disagree; check the item tooltip | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
| Yellow Icarus Cape (Lv 46) | +2 or +1 | — | Quest reward from Wing the Fairy | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
What stacks: Haste stacks with a Speed Potion and with Nimble Feet. GM's Blessing of Wind stacks with everything. An Assassin's Haste and a Bandit's Haste don't stack with each other, and recasting Haste only refreshes the timer.
Where to buy Speed Potions: the wiki lists them at the department stores in Perion, Ellinia, and Lith Harbor for 500 mesos, and in Henesys and Kerning City for 500 mesos, or 475 for residents. Our citizenship guide explains the discount, and our potions guide covers what else to stock.
Reach the 140 cap
| Setup | Speed | Walking speed |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh character | 100 | 150 px/s |
| Speed Potion | 108 | 160 px/s |
| Level 70 shoes (+4), White Napoleon (+3), Speed Potion | 115 | 168.75 px/s |
| Same, with five +2 Speed scrolls on the shoes | 125 | 181.25 px/s |
| Red Whip, level 70 shoes, White Napoleon, Speed Potion | 130 | 187.5 px/s |
| Same, with five +2 Speed scrolls on the shoes | 140 (cap) | 200 px/s |
| GM's Blessing of Wind, Speed Potion, shoes with +2 Speed | 140 (cap) | 200 px/s |
| Max Haste, Speed Potion | 138 | 197.5 px/s |
| Max Haste, Speed Potion, shoes with +2 Speed | 140 (cap) | 200 px/s |
NiaMeowDB adds that Nimble Feet gives another 10 on top of Haste, so "a Thief with max Haste hits the cap during Nimble Feet with no gear at all."
Holding a Red Whip means not holding your real weapon. It's a level 35 one-handed sword with +52 W.ATK (wiki), so it's a travel tool for most classes. The wiki hasn't recorded where it comes from yet.
Scroll your shoes
| Shoe scroll | Bonus | Success rate | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lesser | +1 Speed or Jump | 100% | NiaMeowDB |
| Intermediate | +2 | 60% | NiaMeowDB |
| Greater | +3 | 10% | NiaMeowDB |
| Chaos | +4 | 10%; a failed scroll has a 50% chance to destroy the shoes | NiaMeowDB |
Shoes have 5 slots. Five Intermediate successes add +10, which is the step NiaMeowDB uses in its cap routes. Our scrolling guide covers how scroll tiers work.
Jump higher
| Jump | Height | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 100 (base) | 77 px | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
| 105 | 85 px | NiaMeowDB |
| 110 | 93 px | NiaMeowDB |
| 115 | 102 px | NiaMeowDB |
| 120 (cap) | 111 px | NiaMeowDB |
NiaMeowDB says each point of Jump adds launch speed, "so height grows a little faster than Jump itself." Max Haste's +10 Jump is worth about 16 px.
The wiki adds the horizontal side: a jump lasts 0.555 seconds, and a character who keeps walking covers about 69 px of ground in that time. "That is the real reach of a jump, and it is why some gaps need a rope rather than a leap." Falls hit their top speed after 112 px, so any deeper drop takes the same time per pixel.
For courses that test this, see our jump quest guide. More Speed means longer jumps, not easier ones.
Climb and cross maps
Climbing: NiaMeowDB says climbing speed is Speed + 20 px/s, so 120 px/s at base and 160 at the cap, and Haste speeds it up. The wiki says the base climb rate "is not in the game files," so the only way to measure it is to time it.
Ice: the wiki says icy ground uses a slip speed of 120 instead of the walk value of 125, so the El Nath snowfields are slower as well as slippery.
Crossing maps:
| Map | NiaMeowDB width | Speed 100 | Speed 140 | Wiki |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Henesys | 6,916 px | 46.1 sec | 34.6 sec | 6,896 px, 55 sec; "the widest map in the game" |
| Lith Harbor | 6,274 px | 41.8 sec | 31.4 sec | — |
| Kerning City | 5,200 px | 34.7 sec | 26.0 sec | — |
| Line 1 <Area 1> | 4,070 px | 27.1 sec | 20.4 sec | — |
| Ant Tunnel Park | 3,960 px | 26.4 sec | 19.8 sec | — |
| Perion | 3,286 px | 21.9 sec | 16.4 sec | — |
The time gap comes from the two base speeds: 150 px/s (NiaMeowDB) versus 125 px/s (wiki). NiaMeowDB says max Haste saves about 9 seconds per walk across Henesys. For longer trips, our travel guide covers cabs and Return Scrolls.
Use Teleport as a Magician
The wiki lists Teleport as a second-job skill for Clerics, Fire/Poison Wizards, and Ice/Lightning Wizards. NiaMeowDB agrees that "every Magician gets Teleport at second job."
| Teleport level | Distance | MP cost | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 110 | 55 | Wiki, NiaMeowDB |
| 10 | 128 | 37 | Wiki |
| 20 | 150 | 15 | Wiki, NiaMeowDB |
NiaMeowDB says a max-level Teleport covers the distance you walk in one second at Speed 100.
Pick a movement plan by class
| Class | Cheapest route to faster movement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Thief (Assassin, Bandit) | Max Haste plus a Speed Potion; Nimble Feet for bursts | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
| Magician | Teleport at second job; Speed Potions | Wiki, NiaMeowDB |
| Warrior, Bowman | Party with a Thief for Haste; Speed Potions; Speed shoes | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
| Anyone traveling | Red Whip swap plus a Speed Potion | NiaMeowDB, wiki |
Assassins choose how many points to put into Haste; our Assassin guide covers the trade-off.
Avoid the common mistakes
- Following old speed charts. NiaMeowDB says the hidden +20 makes them outdated.
- Stacking past 140 Speed or 120 Jump. It does nothing.
- Recasting Haste for more Speed. It only refreshes the timer (NiaMeowDB).
- Expecting two Thieves' Hastes to stack. They don't.
- Buying Speed for damage. It doesn't change attack speed; see our attack speed guide.
- Using a Chaos scroll on good shoes. A failure has a 50% chance to destroy them.
Plan alts and returning players
- Returning players: the cap is still 140, but NiaMeowDB says it now feels like the old 160. Expect to overshoot ledges at first.
- Alts: a Thief alt gives the whole party Haste. Speed Potions and scrolled shoes help every character.
- Party play: ask your Thief for Haste before long walks. It's a party buff (wiki).

What may change at Grand Launch
This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
