WoW Forever Race Class Combinations: 6 New Combos, All Racials
WoW Forever race class combinations: the six new pairings, the full grid, every race's racials after the Oct 26 pass, and the Undead Paladin quest chain.

In this guide 15 sections
WoW Forever lets six race and class pairs exist that Classic never allowed, and it rebuilds every race's racials. This guide to WoW Forever race class combinations covers the six new pairings, the full grid, every race's racials as of Blizzard's final pass on October 26 and 27, the Undead Paladin quest chain and a comparison of the combos by stated criteria.
Racial values come from Blizzard's WoW Forever development notes and the client tooltips on WoW Handbook. The game launches on November 4, 2026.
Quick summary
- WoW Forever adds six race/class pairings that Classic never allowed: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. Blizzard says more are planned for later updates (Blizzard Deep Dive recap).
- Every race now has two active and two passive racials. Blizzard says they are tuned to give a similar amount of offensive power while keeping each race's signature utility (Blizzard Deep Dive recap).
- Undead Paladins get their own story. It is based at Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal Glades, and at level 60 there is a separate epic mount quest themed on Retribution (Blizzard Found Photos recap).
- Gnome Priests get two priest-only racial spells, Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan. Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are no longer tied to race, so every Priest learns them (The Forever Era, beta client).
- Blizzard made a final racial pass on October 26 and 27. Human Ruthless dropped to 1% crit, Dwarves swapped Earth Fury for +1% hit, Orcs lost Savage and got Command and a 2-minute Blood Fury back, Troll Berserking lasts 15 seconds, and Undead Touch of the Grave has a 15-second cooldown (Kaivax).
The six new race class combinations
| Combo | Faction | What the race brings to that class | Unique content | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gnome Priest | Alliance | Eureka!, Expansive Mind (+5% Mana), Escape Artist | Two priest-only racials: Confounding Flash (level 10) and Contingency Plan (level 20) | Blizzard; The Forever Era |
| Human Hunter | Alliance | Ruthless (+1% crit), The Human Spirit (+10% Spirit), Will to Survive (stun break), Perception | None announced | Blizzard; Kaivax |
| Dwarf Shaman | Alliance | Stoneform, Artisan's Precision (+1% hit), Big Game Hunter, Find Treasure | First Alliance Shaman option. The Skyborne Shaman is Horde only | Blizzard; Kaivax |
| Orc Mage | Horde | Blood Fury (+10% Spell Power, 2-minute cooldown), Shatter Curse, Hardiness | None announced | Blizzard; Kaivax |
| Troll Warlock | Horde | Berserking (+10% cast speed for 15 seconds), Rapid Regeneration, Regeneration, Beast Slaying | None announced | Blizzard; Kaivax |
| Undead Paladin | Horde | Cannibalize (now restores Mana), Touch of the Grave, Will of the Forsaken | Bandarion Keep storyline and a level 60 Retribution-themed epic mount quest | Blizzard Found Photos recap |
WoW Forever race and class chart
This is the grid with the six new pairings marked (new). It matches the class tables in Blizzard's "Create the Hero" article and the grid in the beta client, as compiled by The Forever Era and Wowhead.
| Class | Alliance races | Horde races | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Skyborne | Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll, Skyborne | 9 races |
| Paladin | Human, Dwarf | Undead (new) | 3 |
| Hunter | Human (new), Dwarf, Night Elf, Skyborne | Orc, Tauren, Troll, Skyborne | 7 |
| Rogue | Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Skyborne | Orc, Undead, Troll, Skyborne | 8 |
| Priest | Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome (new) | Undead, Troll | 6 |
| Shaman | Dwarf (new) | Orc, Tauren, Troll, Skyborne | 5 |
| Mage | Human, Gnome, Skyborne | Orc (new), Undead, Troll | 6 |
| Warlock | Human, Gnome | Orc, Undead, Troll (new) | 5 |
| Druid | Night Elf, Skyborne | Tauren, Skyborne | 3 |
The per-class totals are The Forever Era's counts, and Skyborne counts once per class. Both Wowhead and The Forever Era say Skyborne Mage is Alliance only and Skyborne Shaman is Horde only. The Forever Era also says Skyborne can't be Paladins, Priests or Warlocks. Skyborne needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition (Blizzard). Our Skyborne race guide covers that race in full.
How WoW Forever racials work now
Blizzard's Deep Dive recap describes three design goals. Racials should feel "stronger, more distinct, and more meaningful", every race gets two actives and two passives, and offensive power should be roughly even across races. Some details matter for the new combos:
- Weapon racials are gone for good. Classic's Sword, Mace and Axe Specialization were replaced. In the October 26 pass Blizzard rolled several generic racials back to role-focused ones, but kept the weapon specializations out because raid and dungeon loot shouldn't be judged by "required" weapon types (Kaivax). Human keeps Ruthless (now 1% crit), Dwarf gets Artisan's Precision (+1% hit) and Orc gets Command (+5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage).
- Resistances are gone. Frost Resistance (Dwarf), Arcane Resistance (Gnome) and Shadow Resistance (Undead) are all removed (The Forever Era).
- Classic's race-locked priest spells are now baseline. In the Forever client every Priest learns Fear Ward and Devouring Plague, which used to be Dwarf and Undead racials (The Forever Era). Some races get new priest-only racials instead.
Every race's racials after October 26
The client tooltips (WoW Handbook) with Blizzard's October 15 and October 26–27 changes applied (Kaivax).
| Race | Active racials | Passive racials |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Perception (stealth detection, 20 sec); Will to Survive (removes stuns) | Ruthless (+1% crit); The Human Spirit (+10% Spirit) |
| Dwarf | Find Treasure; Stoneform (removes Bleed, Poison and Disease, −10% Physical damage for 8 sec) | Big Game Hunter (+5% damage to Beasts); Artisan's Precision (+1% hit) |
| Night Elf | Elune's Light (+10% crit for 15 sec); Shadowmeld | Quickness (+1% dodge, +2% movement speed that stacks with other speed effects); Wisp Spirit |
| Gnome | Escape Artist; Eureka! (8 sec of 10% cheaper, 10% stronger non-periodic abilities) | Expansive Mind (+5% Mana); Engineering Specialization |
| Skyborne | Walk on Air (90 sec cooldown); Read Leyline (Alliance: +50% regeneration for 15 sec, +100% while Attuned) or Skysight (Horde: +15% speed for 15 sec, +30% while Charged) | Wind Blessed (+2% haste); Elemental Insight (+5% damage to Elementals) |
| Orc | Blood Fury (+10% Attack and Spell Power for 15 sec, 2 min cooldown); Shatter Curse (dispels Curses and Banes, −5% magic damage) | Hardiness (−20% stun duration); Command (+5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage) |
| Undead | Cannibalize (Health and Mana); Will of the Forsaken (removes Charm, Fear, Sleep) | Touch of the Grave (Health drain, 15 sec internal cooldown); Underwater Breathing |
| Tauren | War Stomp (90 sec cooldown); Cultivation (15 min cooldown) | Endurance (+5% Health only); Plainsrunning (+2% speed per stack up to 60%, not while mounted) |
| Troll | Berserking (+10% casting and attack speed for 15 sec); Rapid Regeneration (50% Health over 6 sec) | Regeneration (+20%, 20% continues in combat); Beast Slaying (+5% damage to Beasts) |
Attuned and Charged last an hour, persist through death and are removed when you enter a raid (Kaivax). Our Skyborne guide covers both.
Track the racial changes

| September 24 | Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control or procs from abilities with no damage | Undead Paladin | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 1 | Eureka! no longer benefits periodic effects. Cannibalize can't be used while immune to Physical damage | Gnome Priest, Undead Paladin | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 16 | Blood Fury cooldown raised to 3 minutes (was 2); reverted on October 26 | Orc Mage | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 16 | Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes instead of granting immunity. Magic damage reduction cut to 5% (was 15%) | Orc Mage | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 16 | Eureka! is now an 8-second buff with no charges and also benefits Power Word: Shield | Gnome Priest | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 16 | Touch of the Grave proc chance and cooldown adjusted "to make benefit more consistent" | Undead Paladin | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 16 | Troll Regeneration bonuses raised to 20% (was 10%) | Troll Warlock | Kaivax dev notes |

| October 26 | Orc Savage removed; Command (+5% pet damage) re-added; Blood Fury back to 2 minutes | Orc Mage | Kaivax dev notes |
| October 26–27 | Troll Berserking 15 sec (was 10); Undead Touch of the Grave internal cooldown 15 sec (was 25) | Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin | Kaivax dev notes |
Play a Gnome Priest
Gnome Priest gets more new tools than any other combo. These are the beta client's priest tooltips, as published by The Forever Era:
| Racial | Type | Priest version |
|---|---|---|
| Escape Artist | Active | Escape any movement-impairing effect and gain immunity to them for 3 sec |
| Eureka! | Active | Non-periodic damage or healing abilities cost 10% less Mana and deal 10% more damage or healing |
| Expansive Mind | Passive | Maximum Mana +5% |
| Engineering Specialization | Passive | Engineering devices fail or backfire 20% less often |
| Confounding Flash | Priest racial, level 10 | Confuses up to 5 enemies within 8 yards for 3 sec. Damage breaks it. 0.5 sec cast, 2-minute cooldown |
| Contingency Plan | Priest racial, level 20 | 30-second Holy ward on an ally. If they drop below 35% Health they gain an absorb shield and a 15-second heal. The beta client doesn't show the amounts yet |
How to use it:
- Save Eureka! for big casts. After the October 16 change it is an 8-second window with no charges and no effect on periodic spells (Kaivax). Use it on direct heals, Smite or Mind Blast, and since October 16 on Power Word: Shield. Don't waste it on Shadow Word: Pain ticks.
- Put Contingency Plan on the tank before a pull. It triggers by itself at 35% Health, so it works as insurance on whoever is taking damage (our reading of the tooltip).
- Use Confounding Flash as an escape. Any damage breaks it, so cast it when you need 3 seconds to run or drink, and stop your group from AoE-ing the confused mobs (our reading of the tooltip).
Other priest races get their own new racials too: Human's Divine Grace at level 10, Dwarf's Chastise at level 20 and Night Elf's reworked Starshards (The Forever Era, from the September 30 official notes). The Gnome kit isn't the only option for an Alliance Priest, but it is the only one with a group-wide crowd control spell.
Play a Human Hunter
| Racial | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Perception | Active | Much higher stealth detection for 20 sec. Unchanged from Classic |
| Will to Survive | Active | Instantly removes all Stun effects. New in Forever |
| Ruthless | Passive | +1% critical strike chance with all spells and attacks (2% until October 26). New in Forever |
| The Human Spirit | Passive | +10% Spirit (5% until October 26) |
Humans lose Diplomacy, Sword Specialization and Mace Specialization (The Forever Era). The Forever Era's Hunter page lists Will to Survive among the loss-of-control racials for PvP. For PvE it names Night Elf's Elune's Light, Orc's Blood Fury and Troll's Berserking as the damage actives instead. Our take: Human Hunter gives up a damage cooldown for a flat 1% crit and a stun break, so it's a solid Alliance pick for PvP and battlegrounds. For raiding, compare it with Night Elf's Elune's Light. On the Horde side, Orc Hunters now also get Command's +5% pet damage (Kaivax). See our WoW Forever PvP guide for how ranks work.
Play a Dwarf Shaman
| Racial | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Find Treasure | Active | Shows nearby treasure on the minimap. It can now run alongside other tracking (Blizzard), and since October 16 it can find extra chest items (Kaivax) |
| Stoneform | Active | Removes and grants immunity to Bleed, Poison and Disease effects, and reduces Physical damage taken by 10% for 8 sec |
| Big Game Hunter | Passive | +5% damage against Beasts. New in Forever |
| Artisan's Precision | Passive | +1% hit chance with spells and attacks. Replaced Earth Fury on October 26 |
That matches Blizzard's article, where the Alliance Skyborne can be Mages but not Shamans. Our take: +1% hit helps every Shaman spec, and Stoneform's Physical damage reduction makes the Dwarf a strong Enhancement or Restoration pick for dungeons and PvP. Big Game Hunter helps while leveling through beast-heavy zones. Our Shaman guide has the builds.
Play an Orc Mage
| Racial | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Fury | Active | +10% Attack Power and Spell Power for 15 sec. 2-minute cooldown again since October 26 (Kaivax) |
| Shatter Curse | Active | Removes Curses and Banes and reduces Magical damage taken by 5% for 8 sec. Since October 16 it dispels rather than grants immunity (Kaivax) |
| Hardiness | Passive | Stun durations reduced by 20% |
| Command | Passive | +5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage. Re-added on October 26, replacing Savage (+1% crit) |
Orcs lose Axe Specialization (Kaivax). Command does nothing for a Mage, so since October 26 the Orc Mage's only damage racial is Blood Fury, now on a shorter 2-minute cooldown. Our take: Orc Mage is still the only Horde Mage with both a damage cooldown and stun reduction, which makes it a strong battleground option. Our Mage guide compares every Mage race.
Play a Troll Warlock
| Racial | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Berserking | Active | +10% casting and attack speed for 15 sec (10 until October 26) |
| Rapid Regeneration | Active | Regenerates 50% of maximum Health over 6 sec. Movement, actions or damage cancel it. New in Forever |
| Beast Slaying | Passive | +5% damage against Beasts. Unchanged from Classic |
| Regeneration | Passive | Health regeneration +20%, and 20% of it continues in combat (raised from 10% on October 16, per Kaivax) |
Trolls lose Bow and Throwing Specialization (The Forever Era). Our take: Warlocks already spend Health for Mana with Life Tap. Rapid Regeneration plus in-combat Regeneration means less sitting between pulls when solo leveling, and Berserking now covers 15 seconds of a burn phase. The Orc Warlock is the main Horde rival since Command adds 5% pet damage. Our Warlock guide compares them.
Play an Undead Paladin
The Undead Paladin is the combo with the most new content. Blizzard's Found Photos recap says the Forsaken paladin path "rolls directly out of the new Warcraft III campaign Forsaken Kingdom". It also says Bandarion Keep in the Whispering Wood of Tirisfal Glades is the key location. At level 60, "whereas Alliance paladins claim their epic charger in the name of Redemption, the paladins of the Forsaken ride in the name of Retribution."
| Racial | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Cannibalize | Active | Restores 7% of total Health and 7% of total Mana every 2 sec for 10 sec. Uses Humanoid or Undead corpses within 5 yards |
| Will of the Forsaken | Active | Removes Charm, Fear and Sleep. Blizzard says it no longer grants immunity |
| Touch of the Grave | Passive | Paladin version: 20% chance on spells and attacks to drain Health, up to 5% of your maximum Health. Internal cooldown 15 sec since October 26 (was 25) |
| Underwater Breathing | Passive | 300% longer breath. Unchanged |
Undead lose Shadow Resistance (The Forever Era). Our Paladin guide covers the talents. Cannibalize's five ticks of 7% add up to 35% Health and Mana, which matches the "35%" in Blizzard's article (our math).
Follow the Forsaken Paladin quest chain
ForG ran this chain in the beta:
| Level | Step | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | A Difficult Path, then Rediscovering the Light: heal 5 Injured Deathguards with Holy Light | Deathknell church (Aramis Hammerhand) |
| 4–8 | Continue Your Training, then A Second Home | Shari Stilwell in Brill |
| 7–11 | Murlocs at the Gates (mace choice), Touring the Grounds, Making Repairs (shield) | Bandarion Keep (Breton Samuels, Jorin Croge) |
| 12 | A Lesson in Divinity teaches Redemption | Undercity, then back to Danitha Morr |
| 18–20 | Fenris Isle chain ending in the two-handed sword Wolfsbane | Starts with Danitha Morr, in Silverpine Forest |
Watch your Health in Rediscovering the Light. ForG says healing with Holy Light damages you as an Undead. A later beta build added that damage on purpose, and ForG credits Icy Veins for that report. ForG also says you can't skip the keep chain to learn Redemption.
Plan your mounts
The Forever Era's client data shows that Undead Paladins don't learn Summon Warhorse (level 40) or Summon Charger (level 60); those two spells are Human and Dwarf only. Blizzard has confirmed only the level 60 Forsaken mount quest. Until a level 40 Forsaken mount appears, plan to buy a regular Undercity mount at 40 (our recommendation). Our mounts and riding guide has the trainer costs.
Compare the six combos
There's no official ranking, and this table doesn't copy anyone else's. Each rating counts the combo's own racials that apply to that activity, using the values in the tables above:
- Leveling solo: racials that cut downtime (Mana or Health regeneration, cheaper spells), add damage while questing, or get you out of a bad pull.
- Dungeons and raids: racials that add throughput (damage or healing cooldowns, crit, hit, haste, Mana) or remove a raid-relevant debuff.
- PvP: racials that break or shorten loss of control, or that crowd-control an enemy.
- Rating: Strong = two or more qualifying racials, Good = one, Average = none.
| Combo | Leveling solo | Dungeons and raids | PvP | Unique story |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gnome Priest | Strong (Eureka!, Escape Artist, Confounding Flash) | Strong (Eureka!, Expansive Mind, Contingency Plan) | Strong (Escape Artist, Confounding Flash) | No |
| Human Hunter | Good (The Human Spirit) | Good (Ruthless) | Strong (Will to Survive, Perception) | No |
| Dwarf Shaman | Strong (Big Game Hunter, Stoneform) | Strong (Artisan's Precision, Stoneform) | Good (Stoneform) | No |
| Orc Mage | Good (Blood Fury) | Good (Blood Fury) | Strong (Hardiness, Shatter Curse) | No |
| Troll Warlock | Strong (Rapid Regeneration, Regeneration, Beast Slaying) | Good (Berserking) | Average | No |
| Undead Paladin | Strong (Cannibalize, Touch of the Grave) | Good (Touch of the Grave) | Good (Will of the Forsaken) | Yes: Bandarion Keep and the level 60 mount quest |
Example: if you want a Horde healer for dungeons who also levels alone, the table points to the Undead Paladin: Cannibalize restores Mana between pulls and Touch of the Grave drains Health in fights. A player who wants the strongest battleground kit on the Alliance would look at the Gnome Priest or Human Hunter instead.
If you're making alts or coming back
- Classic veterans: your old main's race may have lost its signature racials. Dwarf Priests no longer have Fear Ward as a racial (every Priest gets it), and weapon racials no longer need the weapon (The Forever Era). Check your old race again before you reserve a name. See our launch guide for name reservation and rulesets.
- Alts: Legacy progress is account-wide, so a new-combo alt doesn't start your Legacy from zero. See the Legacy system guide.
- Hardcore players: Undead Paladin's Holy Light self-damage in the first class quest (ForG) is a small risk at level 2. Heal one Deathguard at a time. Our Hardcore guide covers the ruleset.
- Anyone who planned around beta racials: recheck them on launch day. Seven races changed in the October 26–27 pass alone (Kaivax). Our class tier list covers the classes themselves, and the WoW Forever hub collects the rest of our coverage.
