WoW Forever Mounts Guide: Riding Cost, Level 40, Trainers
WoW Forever mounts guide: riding at level 40 and 60, 100 and 1,000 gold training with a free first mount, 20/200 gold extra mounts, trainers, new mounts.

In this guide 12 sections
WoW: Forever keeps Classic's two riding levels and its gold wall, but moves the cost. You pay for training, and your first mount comes free. Extra mounts are cheap at 20 and 200 gold. This WoW Forever mounts guide covers the levels and costs, how they compare with Classic Era, where every race trains, the new mounts, and the routes that skip the vendor entirely.
The costs come from Blizzard's developer interviews (summarized by Wowhead) and Warcraft Tavern's riding table. WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026; nobody could ride in the beta, which stopped at level 30, so confirm the trainer price on your first visit.
Quick summary
- Riding starts at level 40 (60% speed) and upgrades at 60 (100%), as in Classic (Warcraft Tavern).
- Training costs 100 gold, then 1,000 gold, and your first mount is free (Blizzard via Wowhead's summary of the Sportskeeda interview).
- Extra mounts cost 20 gold at 40 and 200 gold at 60, against 80 and 800 in Classic Era (Warcraft Tavern; matches the client data).
- Honored with your home faction cuts training and mounts by 10%.
- No flying mounts (Blizzard). Riding is one universal skill, and the Skyborne get their own Galestriders. Tauren Plainsrunning no longer raises mounted speed since the October 26 racial pass (Kaivax).
WoW Forever riding cost and mount level
| Tier | Level | Speed | Training | First mount | Extra mounts | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice Riding | 40 | 60% | 100 gold | Included | 20 gold | Blizzard interview; Warcraft Tavern |
| Journeyman Riding | 60 | 100% | 1,000 gold | Included | 200 gold | Same |
Blizzard's reasoning, from the interviews: "Having an aspirational goal for your money is good," gold sinks are "really good for the economy," and "if you see someone on a mount, it represents the amount of time and effort they have put into the game" (Wowhead summaries of the Sportskeeda and Kotaku interviews).
The beta files store the prices in copper (200,000 and 2,000,000). The 60% mounts need Riding 75 and the 100% mounts need Riding 150 (WoW Forever Builds, datamined).
Is riding cheaper than in Classic Era?
| Cost | Classic Era | WoW Forever | Difference |

| Level 40 mount | 80 gold | Free (first) | −80 |
| Level 40 total | 100 gold | 100 gold | Same |
| Level 60 training | 200 gold | 1,000 gold | +800 |
| Level 60 mount | 800 gold | Free (first) | −800 |
| Level 60 total | 1,000 gold | 1,000 gold | Same |
| Each extra 60% mount | 80 gold | 20 gold | −75% |
| Each extra 100% mount | 800 gold | 200 gold | −75% |
Classic Era numbers come from Wowhead's Classic riding guide. Forever numbers come from the interviews and the beta client. Our read: your first mount costs the same as in Classic. Collecting colors is 75% cheaper.
Budget with discounts
| Plan | Classic Era | Forever, no discount | Forever, Honored (−10%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ride at 40 | 100 gold | 100 gold | 90 gold |
| Epic at 60 | 1,000 gold | 1,000 gold | 900 gold |
| 40 + 60 | 1,100 gold | 1,100 gold | 990 gold |
| 40 + 60 + two extra epic colors | 2,700 gold | 1,500 gold | 1,350 gold |
Our math, with the 10% Honored discount from Warcraft Tavern applied to both training and mounts. Classic also had a PvP rank discount. Forever's ranks are new (our PvP guide), and no source confirms a rank discount yet.
At level 40, mount and dual spec compete for gold. Dual spec also unlocks at 40 for an unannounced price (our dual spec guide). Buy riding first: it saves travel time on every quest.
Find your riding trainer and mount vendor
| Race | Mount | Trainer and vendor | Location (Warcraft Tavern) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Horse | Randal Hunter, Katie Hunter | Eastvale Logging Camp, Elwynn Forest (84.3, 64.9); second vendor Unger Statforth in Menethil Harbor |
| Night Elf | Saber | Jartsam, Lelanai | Darnassus (38.4, 17.0) |
| Dwarf | Ram | Ultham Ironhorn, Veron Amberstill | Amberstill Ranch, Dun Morogh (63.7, 50.1) |
| Gnome | Mechanostrider | Binjy and Milli Featherwhistle | Steelgrill's Depot, Dun Morogh (49.2, 48.1) |
| Skyborne (both factions) | Galestrider | Genn Fairweather | Fairweather Stables near Valanaar, Zephras Isle (53.8, 81.2) |
| Orc | Wolf | Kildar, Ogunaro Wolfrunner | Orgrimmar (69.4, 13.1) |
| Troll | Raptor | Xar'Ti, Zjolnir | Sen'jin Village, Durotar (55.3, 75.5) |
| Tauren | Kodo | Kar Stormsinger, Harb Clawhoof | Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore (47.7, 58.5) |
| Undead | Skeletal horse | Velma Warnam, Zachariah Post | Brill, Tirisfal Glades (60.1, 52.6) |
Warcraft Tavern says you learn from your own race's trainer and need Exalted with another race to train or buy from them. Skyborne players train with Genn Fairweather whatever their faction. Our Skyborne guide and Zephras Isle guide cover the island.

wow4ever counts 49 level 40 and 59 level 60 mounts in the client. Many had no confirmed source when the beta closed at level 30, so treat the "Unknown" rows as client data. Daybreak also found a Swift Hyjal Stag in the client; our Mount Hyjal guide covers the zone it's named for.

Paladins and Warlocks learn riding and get their class mounts through class quests, and Forsaken Paladins get their own mount quests (Warcraft Tavern). See our Paladin and Warlock guides. Paladins can also take Pursuit of Justice, which raises movement and mounted speed by 15% (WoW Handbook).
Move faster before level 40
Until you can ride, class tools, talents and racials fill the gap. The class rows come from WoW Handbook's class pages (client data); the racial rows from Blizzard's October 15 and 26 notes (Kaivax).
| Class | Tool | Effect in Forever | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Druid | Feral Swiftness (talent) | +30% Cat Form movement speed and 4% dodge | WoW Handbook |
| Druid | Travel Form | Learned at 30 | WoW Handbook |
| Shaman | Improved Ghost Wolf (talent) | Cuts Ghost Wolf's cast time by 3 seconds and allows it indoors | WoW Handbook |
| Hunter | Pathfinding (talent) | +6% to Aspect of the Cheetah and Aspect of the Pack | WoW Handbook |
| Rogue | Sprint | +70% movement speed for 15 seconds, 5-minute cooldown | WoW Handbook |
| Paladin | Pursuit of Justice (talent) | +15% movement and mounted speed; doesn't stack with other speed effects | WoW Handbook |
| Tauren (racial) | Plainsrunning | +2% movement speed per stack, up to 60%, if you keep moving; no longer affects mounts | Kaivax, October 26 |
| Skyborne (racial) | Skysight | +15% movement speed for 15 seconds, or +30% while Charged (1 hour, from an elemental convergence) | Kaivax, October 26 |
| Night Elf (racial) | Quickness | Movement speed bonus now stacks with other speed effects | Kaivax, October 15 |
Our read: a Druid with Feral Swiftness moves 30% faster in Cat Form, half the boost of a 60% mount. That makes the Druid the least pressed for gold at 40 (see our Druid guide). Pursuit of Justice still helps a Paladin after 40, because it also raises mounted speed. A Tauren on a long run builds Plainsrunning toward 60%, but the October 26 change means the bonus stops once you mount, so it matters most before 40. Rogues can lean on Sprint between pulls; see the Rogue guide.
Handle alts and returning players
- Returning Classic players: budget the same 100 and 1,000 gold, but put it in the trainer, not the vendor (Blizzard).
- Alts: riding training is per character, so each alt pays 100 gold at 40. A cheap 20-gold color is the only saving.
- Hardcore players: a 60% mount at 40 also helps you outrun a bad pull, so save for it before anything else. Our Hardcore guide covers the other early priorities.
- Gold-short at 40: don't buy dual spec first. Riding speeds up every quest after 40, and our leveling guide covers the routes where it pays off. The WoW Forever hub collects the rest of our coverage.
- Thinking about buying gold or a riding service: Blizzard told TechRadar that real-money trading can lead to permanent bans.
