THE GUIDE

Quick summary

Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.

Bots in MapleStory Classic World cluster on small, solo-friendly maps near towns, and Grand Launch gave players their first real tool against them. This MapleStory Classic bots guide covers the Lie Detector Test added at Grand Launch, how to report a suspected bot without a false accusation, what Nexon has banned and the new Debt System, and where to train when your map is botted. It applies to the live v1.0.0 game, not private servers.

Quick summary

  • Use a Lie Detector Test. Since Grand Launch (October 21, 2026), citizens can buy one and use it on a character that is hunting. A character that fails the minigame goes to the Truth Booth and can't move, chat, use items or skills there for a set time (Nexon's Grand Launch release notes).
  • Bots were reported at Henesys Hunting Ground, the Slime Tree in Ellinia and the Kerning City subway during Founder's Access (maplestory-classic.com, community reports).
  • Nexon bans and now collects. It permanently banned thousands of accounts for botting and real-money trading, with no exemption for Founder's Package buyers. Since October 22, the Debt System takes back mesos from accounts caught in real-money trading (Nexon).
  • New accounts can't trade until 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15 (Nexon).
  • Best bot-free alternatives are party maps and quests. Damp Forest and Land of Wild Boar run best with four players, and KPQ now runs on channels 3–12.

Know what Nexon has said and done

Date (UTC) What Nexon said Relayed by
Sep 22, 2026 Account sanctions apply across Global MapleStory and Classic World maplestory-classic.com
Oct 10 1,379 accounts banned for hacking, botting and other abnormal play maplestory.quest
Oct 14 3,121 accounts banned, with real-money trading named among the reasons maplestory.quest
Oct 14 Coming soon: an account's Cash items can't be gifted or sold for 48 hours after its first Cash Shop currency purchase, aimed at meso selling and fraud. No start date given maplestory.quest
Oct 17 1,379 accounts permanently banned; still investigating; no exception for Founder's Package buyers maplestory-classic.com
Oct 21 Grand Launch: Lie Detector Test added; new accounts can't trade until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15 Nexon release notes
Oct 22 Debt System added: accounts involved in real-money or unfair trading owe the mesos back Nexon notice

Nexon didn't say how it found the banned accounts, over what period, or how many were bots versus other violations (maplestory-classic.com). As of October 28, Nexon's Classic World notices haven't given a start date for the 48-hour Cash item lock.

Use the Lie Detector Test on a suspected bot

The Lie Detector Test is the in-game check Classic World added at Grand Launch. Nexon describes it as an account-bound item with a 7-day duration that citizens buy at the Citizen General Store.

Question Answer
Where do I get one? Max's City General Store in the Kerning City Civic Center lists it for 1,000 mesos from the Visitor citizenship grade (NiaMeowDB citizenship data)
Who can I use it on? Only a character that is hunting at the time (NiaMeowDB item data)
What happens to the target? They get a short minigame. Fail it and they're sent to the Truth Booth (Nexon)
What does the Truth Booth do? They must stay logged in there for a set time, with no movement, skills, chat, items or content (Nexon)
Can I spam it? No. The same player can't be tested again within 2 minutes (NiaMeowDB, item text since October 21)

Example: you find a character on Kerning's Line 1 attacking on a fixed rhythm with no monsters nearby. You're a Kerning citizen, so you bought a test for 1,000 mesos. Use it once; a real player passes the minigame in seconds. If the character fails, report it as well, because the Truth Booth is a timeout, not a ban. Our citizenship guide covers how to reach the Visitor grade.

Spot a likely bot without false accusations

maplestory-classic.com lists the signs players look for. None is an official test, and any one of them can fit a real player:

Sign players cite Why it's weak on its own
Random letters-and-numbers name Real players pick odd names too
Starter weapon at a level where most have upgraded Some players save mesos
Attacks on a fixed rhythm with no monsters nearby Strongest sign in the list
Walks back to the exact same spot after every hit Spot-farming players do this
Two characters with identical inputs that stack on one spot Points to multi-client input copying
Only basic attacks Not evidence; warriors do it to save MP and potion money

The basic-attack point matters at Henesys Hunting Ground. Players there noted that many real warriors basic-attack because it costs no MP (maplestory-classic.com).

Report a suspected bot

  1. Right-click the character and choose the report option (players' description, via maplestory-classic.com).
  2. Note the character name, map, channel and time, plus the behavior you actually saw. Keep observation separate from guesswork.
  3. Change channel and keep playing. Some players say reported characters vanished within minutes, and others saw them still farming hours later.
  4. Don't worry about a report cap. One player suggested a limit of about 15 reports a day, but that's unconfirmed and Nexon hasn't stated one.

Also ignore megaphone ads for mesos sold for real money near the Free Market. Players say both sides of those trades can be banned (maplestory-classic.com), and Nexon named real-money trading in its ban notice (maplestory.quest). Since October 22, Nexon's Debt System also reclaims those mesos: an account in debt can't trade, use a Store Permit or Hired Merchant, send Cash Shop gifts or drop items until it repays in town (Nexon's Debt System notice). Our Free Market guide covers safe trading.

Swap botted maps for bot-free alternatives

The pattern in the reports is that bots crowd small, solo-friendly, low-level maps near towns. Party maps and less famous maps hold up better. The alternatives below come from mapleclassic.guide's route. The pairing is our reading of it.

Level Reported botted or crowded map Alternative Why it holds up Source
10–14 Henesys Hunting Ground Mushroom Garden, then The Rain Forest East of Henesys On the quest route; small, so change channel mapleclassic.guide, maplestory-classic.com
10–20 Slime Tree (Ellinia) Forest of Wisdom Larger map that copes with crowds mapleclassic.guide; our Ellinia South guide
14–20 Kerning City subway Caution Falling Down, Northern Top of Construction Site, or The Blue Mushroom Forest Same Blue Mushroom quest targets mapleclassic.guide; our Kerning fields guide
20–25 Busy Horny Mushroom Tree channel KPQ on Channels 3–12 from level 21 Party content, timed stages Nexon, our KPQ guide
25–35 Transfer Area (always full in tests) Damp Forest, party of 4 A solo player can't run it well, so it's hard to kill-steal on mapleclassic.guide
35–45 Ant Tunnel 1's two best spots Land of Wild Boar, party of 4 More of the map is worth farming; better drops mapleclassic.guide
44–60 Busy Perion maps The Excavation Site's Remains and Camps, added at Grand Launch Newer, less-known maps Nexon; our Excavation Site guide
35–45 Any packed map Monkey Forest 2, A Look-Out Shed Around the Beach, Lorang Lorang, Lorang Lorang Lorang, Sleepy Dungeon V, The Tunnel That Lost Light II Listed by mapleclassic.guide as "potentially good" and less proven, so likely less contested mapleclassic.guide (our inference on crowding)

For the full level route, see our training guide and our launch day plan.

Use party play, which bots can't copy

A bot farms alone. Party maps, party quests and party EXP all favor a coordinated group:

  • Party EXP bonus: 10% for 2 players, 20% for 3, and 30% for 4 to 6, plus 5% for each extra member who hits the same monster (NiaMeowDB's party EXP formula).
  • Spawn split: mapleclassic.guide's Damp Forest plan puts two players at the bottom, one in the middle and one at the top. It says the map needs a party of four to be viable, which is why it's hard to kill-steal on.
  • Add players carefully: mapleclassic.guide's rule is to add people only if the party's average kill rate doesn't drop. One slow player can cost more than the extra bonus.

For map capacity and respawn timing, read our party grinding guide.

Level with quests when every map is full

Quests can't be botted away from you. mapleclassic.guide says quests aren't worth focusing on but are fine to do while training. These ones pay in items:

Quest Level Reward Source
Jane and the Mushroom 20+ Random 60% weapon scroll NiaMeowDB
Proof of Companionship (KPQ) 21+ 60% earring scroll, random stat NiaMeowDB
Stranger's Identity 23+ Old Raggedy Cape NiaMeowDB
Collecting Cursed Dolls (sauna robe line) 36+ Ores, a 60% glove scroll, a level 40 helm NiaMeowDB, wiki
Taking Out the Alligators 2 48+ 60% cape scroll, your choice of stat NiaMeowDB

Note that John's Deep Forest of Patience quests now need level 65 instead of 45 (NiaMeowDB). More picks are in quests worth doing.

Know the difference between allowed and banned automation

Tool Allowed? Basis
Pet Auto HP Potion and Auto MP Potion Yes, an in-game pet skill Our pets guide (wiki, Nexon notice)
Pet Auto Move and Expanded Auto Move (loot pickup) Yes, an in-game pet skill Our pets guide
Key remapping in the game's own settings or controller support Yes; Nexon supports controllers Nexon FAQ via maplestory.quest
Macros, farming bots, third-party automation No Nexon Terms of Service; ban notices
Multi-client setups that copy input to several characters No maplestory-classic.com (ban story)
Buying or selling mesos or items for real money No Nexon Terms of Service; Oct 14 ban notice

Compare your options on a botted map

Option Effort EXP effect Best when
Change channel Low Immediate if you find an empty channel Small maps; Windia has 40 channels since Grand Launch (Nexon)
Lie Detector Test Low, 1,000 mesos Clears the map for a while if it's a bot You're a citizen and the behavior is clear
Switch to an alternative map Medium Same bracket, sometimes slower All channels contested
Form a party of 4 Medium Party bonus of 30%, more when everyone hits Damp Forest, Land of Wild Boar
Run KPQ Medium Steady at 21–30 Channels 3–12 only
Quest circuit Low Slower, but pays in scrolls and gear Peak hours
Report and wait Low None right away Always do this alongside one of the above

Alts and returning players

  • Alts: Level alts in parties with your main's friends rather than on the solo maps bots favor. Damp Forest and KPQ suit a group.
  • Returning players: In old MapleStory, Henesys Hunting Ground was the default early map. In Classic World, it's the most-reported bot map (maplestory-classic.com). Start on the quest route instead.
  • Founder's Access players: No package exempts you from bans (Nexon via maplestory-classic.com), and a ban reaches your regular MapleStory account too.
  • New accounts: you can't trade until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15, so plan your first potions and gear from NPC shops and quests. Since October 22, those accounts can still drop KPQ coupons and passes (Nexon).

What changed for bots and trading at Grand Launch

Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) and the October 22 maintenance changed most of this topic:

  • Lie Detector Test added for citizens, with the Truth Booth penalty (see above).
  • Trade lock on new accounts until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15.
  • Windia expanded to 40 channels, KPQ added to channels 8–12, and Free Market rooms 12–20 opened, which spreads players and bots thinner (Grand Launch maintenance notes).
  • Field boss respawns are more randomized, which makes fixed-timer boss camping harder.
  • Debt System from October 22 for real-money and unfair trading.

Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third job are still closed, so every player and every bot shares Victoria Island. Our patch notes tracker lists each update, and the MapleStory Classic hub gathers the rest of our guides.

FAQ

Are there bots in MapleStory Classic World? Yes. Players reported bot-like and multi-client characters from Founder's Access onward, and Nexon has banned thousands of accounts for botting and real-money trading.

How does the Lie Detector Test work in MapleStory Classic? A citizen uses it on a character that is hunting. The target plays a short minigame, and a character that fails is sent to the Truth Booth, where it can't move, chat or use items for a set time (Nexon).

Where do I buy a Lie Detector Test? At the Citizen General Store. Max in the Kerning City Civic Center sells it for 1,000 mesos from the Visitor grade (NiaMeowDB).

How do I report a bot? Right-click the character and choose the report option. Note the name, map, channel and time, and describe only what you saw.

Where can I train without bots? Party maps like Damp Forest and Land of Wild Boar with four players, KPQ on channels 3–12, or less-known maps such as Sleepy Dungeon V and the Excavation Site.

Does a Classic World ban affect my main MapleStory account? Yes. Nexon's September 22 memo says sanctions apply across both games.
