MapleStory Classic Forest of Wisdom and Slime Tree: Ellinia South

The Forest of Wisdom and the Slime Tree are the training maps just south of Ellinia, and for a new Magician they cover levels 6 to 24. This MapleStory Classic Forest of Wisdom guide compares all seven Ellinia South maps with live spawns, lists every monster's stats and weaknesses, picks a map for each level and job, and covers the quests and drops worth keeping in the Grand Launch game.

Quick summary

• Ellinia's south side has 7 training maps: The Field South of Ellinia, The Forest of Wisdom, The Forest South of Ellinia and Dungeon, Southern Forest I–IV (MapleStory Quest).
• The Forest of Wisdom is the 11–15 pick. It has 30 Green Mushrooms and 25 Slimes, worth 1,086 EXP per full clear (our math), and GMSClassic Hub names it the Ellinia starters' map for 11–15.
• Southern Forest I is the "Slime Tree". It has 21 Slimes and nothing else. Southern Forest II and III each hold 16 Green Mushrooms, and Southern Forest IV holds 13 Horny Mushrooms (Lv 22) (MapleStory Quest).
• The Public Release cut two big maps. The Forest South of Ellinia went from ×1.5 to ×0.7 and The Forest of Wisdom from ×1.0 to ×0.8 compared with the second closed test (MapleStory Quest client diff).
• Keep your Slime Bubbles. NPCs pay 50 mesos each, more than most early drops (MapleStory Quest), and three quests ask for them.

The connections below are from MapleStory Quest:

1. Ellinia → The Field South of Ellinia. Estelle stands here.
2. Field South → The Forest of Wisdom. From here you can go on to Monkey Forest I, Downstairs at the Forest and The Forest South of Ellinia.
3. Forest of Wisdom → The Forest South of Ellinia. This map is the hub for the four dungeon maps (Dungeon, Southern Forest I–IV). It also connects east to The Forest East of Henesys.
4. Each Southern Forest map is a dead end that connects only back to The Forest South.

The four Southern Forest maps share the same narrow, tall layout (1,090 × 2,920). That's a short walk per clear, but you'll do a lot of climbing.

The Forest South is now less than half as dense as it was in CoT2, so don't plan to train there. Use it to walk to the dungeons.

GMSClassic Hub says The Forest of Wisdom holds "up to 31 monsters at once" for 577 EXP per clear, about 7 clears per level at Lv 13. Our 1,086 counts every spawn point; theirs is what's alive at one time after the ×0.8 mob rate. Use theirs for pacing and ours to compare maps. Another community pick for 11–15 is Kerning City Subway Line 1 Area 1 (NiaMeowDB), which suits Thieves better than Ellinia starters; see our Kerning Subway guide.

Train around the Slime Tree's crowds

The Slime Tree was one of the maps players reported as botted during Founder's Access. If yours is, The Forest of Wisdom is the larger alternative at the same levels, and Windia's 40 channels since Grand Launch make an empty channel easier to find. Len the Fairy runs the Ellinia Department Store. These are NiaMeowDB's community-recorded prices. Since Grand Launch, every monster on these maps is between levels 1 and 22, and monsters from level 10 to 30 drop potions more often, so you'll buy fewer than Founder's Access players did (Nexon):

If you're making alts or coming back

• New Magicians: take your first job in Ellinia. Then go to Southern Forest I at 6–10, Field South to 12 and The Forest of Wisdom to 15. Do Shane's quests on the way.
• Returning CoT2 testers: The Forest South lost more than half its spawns. Field South and Forest of Wisdom were cut too.
• Walking to Henesys: The Forest South of Ellinia connects to The Forest East of Henesys (MapleStory Quest).
• Collectors: Leaves and Squishy Liquid feed several early quests and weeklies, so bank them on your mule.
• Halloween: until November 18, Malady's Halloween quest sends you to Estelle on The Field South of Ellinia with a candy pouch, and Orange Slimes appear in Ellinia town (henesys.gg); see our Halloween event guide.

What changed south of Ellinia at Grand Launch

Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) didn't change the spawns or monster stats in this guide. Three changes in Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes still matter here:

• More potion drops from monsters between levels 10 and 30, which covers the Dark Stumps, Green, Blue and Horny Mushrooms and Axe Stumps on these maps.
• Windia expanded to 40 channels, so the small Southern Forest dungeons are easier to get alone.
• Improved MP Recovery for Magicians went up to +10% to +25%.

Grand Launch also brought the Lie Detector Test for suspected bots (Grand Launch release notes). The MapleStory Classic hub lists every guide for the game.

Where is the Slime Tree in MapleStory Classic? It's Dungeon, Southern Forest I, off The Forest South of Ellinia. It has 21 Slimes and nothing else (MapleStory Quest).

Is The Forest of Wisdom good for leveling? Yes, for 11–15. It has 30 Green Mushrooms and 25 Slimes, and GMSClassic Hub picks it for Ellinia starters at that level.

Where do I find Horny Mushrooms near Ellinia? In Dungeon, Southern Forest IV, which has 13 Horny Mushrooms (Lv 22) (MapleStory Quest). Plan on 44 accuracy at level 22 (NiaMeowDB).
