Arcforge is MapleStory Classic World's jewel and magic craft. Chrishrama teaches it in Sleepywood. It refines ore into gems, turns Leather into Processed Parchment, combines both into 100% Lesser scrolls, and makes Magician wands and staves from level 15 to 40. This MapleStory Classic Arcforge guide lists every recipe you can make at launch, explains where the gem money goes, compares crafted scrolls with Tulcus's shop, and prices two routes from craft level 1 to 8. For how the six crafts fit together, see our crafting guide.
Quick summary
- Chrishrama is in Sleepywood at (1089, 434). His level 10 starter asks for 30 Dark Stumps and 1 Garnet Ore. A weekly quest pays an Arcforging Kit, and a level 25 quest pays a Scroll Crafting Catalyst (MapleStory Quest).
- 39 craftable recipes: 10 gem and parchment materials, 18 Lesser scrolls and 8 wands and staves (266,200 mesos in fees and 1,906 craft EXP, one of each; MapleStory Quest), plus 3 house items added at Grand Launch (henesys.gg).
- Gems are mostly break-even. Each gem's fee equals its NPC sell price, so refining costs only the ore. Black Crystal is the exception: a 1,200 fee for a gem that sells for 2,500 (client data).
- Reaching craft level 8 takes 4,583 craft EXP on the release table (MapleStory Quest), about 330 gem ores on the cheapest route (our math).
- Eleven Lesser scrolls can't be bought anywhere recorded, including all four Earring stat scrolls. Arcforge is the only recorded source (MapleStory Quest; NiaMeowDB).
How to unlock Arcforge: Chrishrama's quests
Chrishrama stands in Sleepywood, the dungeon town south of Ellinia (map: our Sleepywood guide).
| Quest | Level | Needs | EXP (CoT2 → release) | Mesos | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chrishrama in Need of an Apprentice | 10 | 30 Dark Stumps, 1 Garnet Ore | 171 → 188 | 351 | Unlocks Arcforge |
| Chrishrama in Need of Help (weekly) | 15 | Arcforge 2; 25 Green Mushrooms, 10 Fragments of Magic | 705 → 669 | 497 | Arcforging Kit; "1 of 6 offered per weekly rotation" |
| An Arcforger in My Own Right! | 25 | Arcforge 5; 30 Horny Mushrooms, 1 Topaz | 2,587 → 3,060 | 804 | Scroll Crafting Catalyst |
| A Price to Pay (Citizenship) | 47 | Henesys Grade 8; 50 Drake Skulls | 11,400 | 1,477 | 20 Blue Potions, 180 contribution |
| A Man Atoning (Citizenship) | 47 | After A Price to Pay | 11,400 | 1,477 | 180 contribution |
Arcforge EXP table: craft levels 1 to 8
| Craft level | Craft EXP to next | Total EXP | Character level needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 50 | 0 | 10 (quest) |
| 2 | 166 | 50 | 10 |
| 3 | 319 | 216 | 15 |
| 4 | 521 | 535 | 20 |
| 5 | 787 | 1,056 | 25 |
| 6 | 1,138 | 1,843 | 30 |
| 7 | 1,602 | 2,981 | 35 |
| 8 | cap at launch | 4,583 | 40 |
Recipe EXP follows a fixed pattern in the client data: gems pay 3 × the recipe level, wands and staves pay 20 × the level, and scrolls pay 10 × the level, except the level 2 Hat scrolls, which pay 40. Crafting still stops at craft level 8 after Grand Launch; the craft level 9 and 10 recipes are in the files but can't be made yet (henesys.gg).
Arcforge gem refining and Black Crystal profit
Every gem recipe takes 1 ore. This is client data: MapleStory Quest's item pages and the wiki's recipe table both show "× 1."
| Gem | Craft Lv | Fee = gem's NPC price | Ore's NPC price | Craft EXP | Ore drops from (wiki, pre-launch) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garnet | 1 | 200 | 40 | 3 | Snail, about 1/103 |
| Aquamarine | 1 | 200 | 40 | 3 | Octopus, about 1/23 |
| Emerald | 2 | 400 | 80 | 6 | Stump about 1/207; Green Mushroom about 1/620 |
| Topaz | 2 | 400 | 80 | 6 | Pig about 1/249; Horny Mushroom about 1/317 |
| Sapphire | 3 | 600 | 120 | 9 | Slime, about 1/385 |
| Opal | 4 | 800 | 160 | 12 | Red Snail, about 1/91 |
| Amethyst | 5 | 1,000 | 200 | 15 | Blue Snail (no rate listed) |
| Diamond | 6 | 1,200 | 240 | 18 | Drake, Croco, Fire Boar (MapleStory Quest older tables, 0.7%) |
| Black Crystal | 6 | 1,200 | 2,500 gem / 500 ore | 18 | Malady, Stone Golem, Wild Kargo (MapleStory Quest older tables, 0.7%) |
| Processed Parchment | 2 | 200 | Leather ×3 (10 each) | 6 | Pigs, Boars, Lupins (20%) |
Rowen the Fairy's level 36 quest "Collecting 70 Cursed Dolls" pays 10 random ores (wiki). Every ore's drop sources and Smithing's ingot recipes are in our ore guide.
Gems feed other crafts too. Weaponcrafting's Niam axe takes 3 Emeralds and The Rising takes 6 Diamonds, so a Fighter who also runs Arcforge supplies their own weapon line (see our axes guide).
What the fee means for your mesos (our math): a refined gem sells for exactly its fee, so a 400-meso Topaz craft pays 400 back if you vendor it. The real cost is the ore you didn't sell (80 mesos). Black Crystal pays 2,500 for a 1,200 fee, so each refine earns 1,300 mesos over the fee, or 800 more than vendoring the ore. Processed Parchment sells for 10 mesos, so making it to sell loses 190 per craft. Only make it for scrolls.
Arcforge scroll crafting: 18 Lesser scrolls
Every Lesser scroll is 1 Processed Parchment + 10 Fragments of Magic + 3 gems, plus a fee. Lessers "succeed 100% of the time" (MapleStory Quest). Fragments of Magic drop from Octopus (about 1 in 23) and Green Mushroom (about 1 in 124) (wiki).
| Scroll | Craft Lv | Gem ×3 | Effect | Fee | Craft EXP | Tulcus price (NiaMeowDB) | Craft cost (fee + parchment + gems, our math) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hat Accuracy | 2 | Garnet | +1 accuracy | 10,000 | 40 | 20,000 | 10,800 |
| Hat HP | 2 | Topaz | +10 max HP | 10,000 | 40 | 20,000 | 11,400 |
| Hat MP | 2 | Emerald | +10 max MP | 10,000 | 40 | 20,000 | 11,400 |
| Topwear HP / MP | 3 | Topaz / Emerald | +10 max HP / MP | 10,000 | 30 | not sold | 11,400 |
| Bottomwear HP / MP | 4 | Topaz / Emerald | +10 max HP / MP | 10,000 | 40 | not sold | 11,400 |
| Overall Armor DEF | 5 | Diamond | +2 weapon def. | 10,000 | 50 | 40,000 | 13,800 |
| Shield DEF | 5 | Diamond | +2 weapon def. | 10,000 | 50 | 20,000 | 13,800 |
| Shield Accuracy | 5 | Garnet | +1 accuracy | 10,000 | 50 | not sold | 10,800 |
| Shoes Jump / Speed | 6 | Aquamarine / Amethyst | +1 jump / +1 speed | 10,000 | 60 | not sold | 10,800 / 13,200 |
| Cape Weapon Def. | 7 | Diamond | +2 weapon def. | 10,000 | 70 | 40,000 | 13,800 |
| Cape Magic Def. | 7 | Sapphire | +2 magic def. | 10,000 | 70 | 40,000 | 12,000 |
| Earring STR / DEX / INT / LUK | 8 | Black Crystal | +1 stat | 20,000 | 80 | not sold | 27,700 |
Our "craft cost" counts the fee, the 200-meso parchment fee, and each gem at its NPC sell price. Leather and Fragments are counted as farmed. Tulcus stands in The Swamp of Despair II near Kerning City. "Not sold" means NiaMeowDB's and MapleStory Quest's recorded shops don't stock it. Earring scrolls cost 10,000 in the test builds and 20,000 since v1.0.0; the cape Weapon Def. and Magic Def. scrolls stayed at 10,000 (henesys.gg).
Scroll Crafting Catalyst: using it while you craft a Lesser gives a chance that the scroll comes out Intermediate, Greater or Chaos of the same category instead (NiaMeowDB item text). That makes Arcforge one of the few launch sources of Chaos scrolls; the Monstrous Tree Stumpy quest is another, with a Gloves Crit. Rate Scroll: Chaos as its reward (NiaMeowDB). Odds and families are in our scrolling guide. Earring and cape picks are in the earrings and capes guides.
Arcforge wands and staves for Magicians
| Weapon | Craft Lv | Req. level | Magic / weapon attack | Materials | Fee = NPC price | Craft EXP | Flora's price (NiaMeowDB) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sapphire Staff | 3 | 15 | 31 / 25 | 3 Silver Ingot, 2 Sapphire, 9 Screw | 2,500 | 60 | 5,000 |
| Emerald Staff | 3 | 15 | 31 / 25 | 3 Silver Ingot, 2 Emerald, 9 Screw | 2,500 | 60 | 5,000 |
| Metal Wand | 4 | 20 | 41 / 21 | 4 Iron Ingot, 30 Blue Mushroom Cap, 12 Screw | 3,500 | 80 | 10,500 |
| Ice Wand | 5 | 25 | 48 / 24 | 5 Mithril Ingot, 1 Piece of Ice, 15 Screw | 4,500 | 100 | 13,500 |
| Wizard Staff | 5 | 25 | 45 / 35 | 5 Silver Ingot, 1 Topaz, 2 Amethyst, 15 Screw | 4,500 | 100 | 13,500 |
| Mithril Wand | 6 | 30 | 55 / 27 | 6 Mithril Ingot, 4 Aquamarine, 18 Screw | 5,500 | 120 | not listed |
| Wizard Wand | 7 | 35 | 62 / 43 | 7 Mithril Ingot, 5 Topaz, 21 Screw | 7,500 | 140 | not sold at release |
| Fairy Wand | 8 | 40 | 69 / 48 | 8 Topaz, 3 Sapphire, 3 Diamond, 1 Fairy Wing, 24 Screw | 9,500 | 160 | not sold |
All eight have 7 upgrade slots (MapleStory Quest). Ingots come from Smithing at 5 ore each, and Screws come from Weaponcrafting (1 Bronze + 1 Iron Ingot makes 10). How these compare with shop and drop wands is in our wands and staves guide, and Magician training spots are in our Magician guide.
Arcforge house items added at Grand Launch
Grand Launch gave every discipline a station and some furniture for player housing. Arcforge's three (henesys.gg, launch client):
| Item | Craft Lv | Materials | Fee | Craft EXP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arcane Station | 3 | 5 Gold Ingot, 50 Fragment of Magic, 20 Processed Wood, 20 Screw | 100,000 | 60 |
| Brass Candlestick | 3 | 10 Bronze Ingot, 10 Fragment of Magic | 15,000 | 60 |
| Flower Bud Ceiling Light | 4 | 5 Silver Ingot, 25 Fairy's Tentacle, 10 Fragment of Magic | 20,000 | 80 |
None of them is a good EXP recipe: at craft level 3, 60 EXP for a 15,000 or 100,000 fee is far worse than gems, which pay their fee back. Make them for your house, not for levels. Our housing guide covers what stations and furniture do.
Arcforge leveling guide: 1 to 8
Both routes use the release table (4,583 EXP). "Net" is fees minus the NPC sell price of what you make, with farmed materials counted as free. Ore value you give up is listed separately. All figures are our math from client data.
Route A, the gem ladder (fewest materials)
| Craft Lv | Craft | Count | EXP | Fees (all paid back on sale) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Garnet or Aquamarine | 17 | 51 | 3,400 |
| 2 | Emerald or Topaz | 28 | 168 | 11,200 |
| 3 | Sapphire | 36 | 324 | 21,600 |
| 4 | Opal | 43 | 516 | 34,400 |
| 5 | Amethyst | 53 | 795 | 53,000 |
| 6–7 | Diamond | 152 | 2,736 | 182,400 |
| Total | 329 ores | 4,590 | 306,000 fees, net 0 |
The ore you'd otherwise vendor is worth about 61,200 mesos, close to planet-helper's 61,600 net. Swap Diamonds for Black Crystals at levels 6–7, and the same 152 crafts sell for 197,600 mesos more than their fees. The catch is supply: Black Crystal Ore drops at 0.7% from level 55+ monsters in the older tables. Carry about 1,200 mesos per craft as float, since each fee is paid before the gem sells.
Route B, the Magician gear ladder
| Craft Lv | Craft | Count | EXP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Aquamarine (kept) and Topaz (kept) | 36 + 60 | 468 |
| 3 | Sapphire + Sapphire Staff | 4 + 2 | 156 |
| 4 | Metal Wand | 6 | 480 |
| 5 | Ice Wand | 8 | 800 |
| 6 | Mithril Wand | 9 | 1,080 |
| 7 | Wizard Wand | 12 | 1,680 |
| Total | 4,664 |
Fees come to 235,100 mesos. Vendoring the 37 weapons returns 201,500, so the net is about 33,600: the gem fees, since those gems end up inside the wands. Materials are far heavier: 178 Mithril Ingots (890 Mithril Ore), 624 Screws (63 Screw crafts) and 180 Blue Mushroom Caps. Pick Route B only if you're already running Smithing and Weaponcrafting, or you're selling wands to other players.
Mixed advice (our assessment): level on gems, and craft scrolls and wands only when you'll use them. A crafted Overall DEF or Cape scroll saves about 26,000 mesos over Tulcus, and a crafted Ice Wand saves 9,000 over Flora before materials.
Example: a level 28 Magician with Arcforge 4 needs a Metal Wand and has a stack of gem ores saved. Refining Opals to craft level 5 costs only the ore value, after which the Ice Wand recipe (level 25 to equip) opens. Five Mithril Ingots and a Piece of Ice later, the Magician has a 48 magic attack wand for a 4,500 fee instead of Flora's 13,500.
Arcforge for alts and returning players
- Magician alts: a crafted Ice Wand costs a 4,500 fee (paid back if you vendor it), compared with Flora's 13,500 (MapleStory Quest; NiaMeowDB).
- Funding alts: a Black Crystal refine earns 1,300 mesos over its fee. More money-making ideas are in our mesos guide.
- Returning from original MapleStory: Lesser scrolls here are 100% scrolls, not the old 10% or 60% tiers, and gems take 1 ore, not 10 (MapleStory Quest).
- Run the weekly: Chrishrama's weekly is "1 of 6" crafting weeklies, so you won't see it every week (MapleStory Quest).

What changed for Arcforge at Grand Launch
Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) left the Arcforge recipes in this guide unchanged and kept the craft level 8 cap. It added the three house items above. The one fee change is older: nine Lesser cape, earring and glove scroll recipes rose from 10,000 to 20,000 mesos at Founder's Access (October 6), not at Grand Launch, per henesys.gg's update notes. In Arcforge that covers the four Earring stat scrolls and the cape stat scrolls at craft level 10, which can't be made yet; the cape Weapon Def. and Magic Def. scrolls stay at 10,000 (henesys.gg; Nexon's Grand Launch release notes and the launch client).
FAQ
Where do I learn Arcforge in MapleStory Classic? From Chrishrama in Sleepywood, at level 10. Defeat 30 Dark Stumps and bring 1 Garnet Ore (MapleStory Quest). Each gem then takes just 1 ore plus a fee equal to the gem's NPC price.
Is Arcforge profitable? Mostly break-even. Gems sell for exactly their fee, except Black Crystal, which sells for 2,500 against a 1,200 fee. Scrolls save mesos only if you'd otherwise buy them from Tulcus (our math).
Where do Fragments of Magic drop? Octopus (about 1 in 23) and Green Mushroom (about 1 in 124), per the wiki. Every scroll recipe needs 10.
How do I craft Chaos scrolls? Use a Scroll Crafting Catalyst while crafting a Lesser scroll, for a chance at Intermediate, Greater or Chaos (NiaMeowDB). The catalyst is the reward for "An Arcforger in My Own Right!"
How much craft EXP does Arcforge level 8 take? 4,583 in total on the release table, and your character must be level 35 to earn EXP at craft level 7 (MapleStory Quest; wiki). Earring stat scrolls, sold in no recorded shop, unlock at craft level 8.
