THE GUIDE

Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.

Smithing is MapleStory Classic World's metal craft. Silas Irons in Perion teaches it. It smelts five ore into one ingot, and nearly every other craft uses those ingots. It also turns shop-bought helmets and its own gloves and boots into Warrior gear from level 10 to 40. Since Grand Launch it also makes the Anvil for your house and five pieces of metal furniture. This MapleStory Classic Smithing guide lists all 65 recipes you can craft under the level 8 cap, shows where each ore drops, and prices two routes to craft level 8, one of which nearly pays for itself. For the full crafting system, see our crafting guide.

Quick summary

  • 65 craftable Smithing recipes in v1.0.0: 7 ingots, 52 pieces of Warrior gear, and 6 housing pieces added at Grand Launch (the Anvil, three lights and a wardrobe, a bed and a safe). NiaMeowDB lists 74 in total, but the 9 at craft level 10 can't be made while crafting stops at 8 (MapleStory Quest; NiaMeowDB).
  • Silas Irons unlocks the craft at level 10. His test is 20 Stumps, 20 Dark Stumps and 5 Bronze Ore. Mr. Thunder won't teach Weaponcrafting until you've done it (MapleStory Quest; our crafting guide).
  • Every ingot gives 30 craft EXP per 1,000 mesos, and an NPC pays back the fee. Ingot leveling costs ore, not mesos (MapleStory Quest).
  • Many helmet recipes upgrade a shop helmet. Harry, Perion's armor seller, sells the Bronze bases for 1,200 to 4,500 mesos (NiaMeowDB).
  • Our math on the release EXP table: the ingot-and-Pride route costs about 29,700 mesos net and 1,380 ore. The helmet-upgrade route costs about 100,100 mesos net and 855 ore.

1 50 10 20 Bronze, Iron
2 166 10 40 Mithril
3 319 15 60 Adamantium, Gold

EXP to next is the release table from MapleStory Quest's crafting ladder, where each step is "the last level's times 1.32 plus 100, rounded down." Reaching 8 takes 4,583 craft EXP in total (MapleStory Quest). The gate is the wiki's "char_lv = 5 × craft_lv," and EXP earned at the gate "is discarded."

Recipes and fees come from MapleStory Quest. Drop rates are the wiki's community records. Bronze and Iron Ore also come from Shane's mushroom quests (5 each) and as random rewards from Rowen's Cursed Doll quest. GM event Magic Boxes can give 15 of any refining ore, including Adamantium (Nexon's Grand Launch release notes). None of the NPC shops in NiaMeowDB lists ore. Ore sells to NPCs for 20 mesos. Our ore guide maps every ore and gem source.

Housing: the Anvil and furniture (new at Grand Launch)

Craft Lv Result Ingredients Fee Craft EXP
3 Anvil (home crafting station) 10 Iron Ingots, 10 Bronze Ingots, 5 Processed Wood, 20 Screws 100,000 60
3 Metal Ceiling Light 5 Iron Ingots, 30 Bubbling's Huge Bubbles, 20 Screws 15,000 60

5 Rustic Bed 10 Processed Wood, 5 Processed Cloth, 50 Screws, 5 Red Dye 25,000 100
6 Reinforced Safe 5 Processed Wood, 10 Iron Ingots, 10 Bronze Ingots, 10 Screws 300,000 120

Recipes are NiaMeowDB's crafting data. henesys.gg's Grand Launch notes confirm that every discipline now makes a home station and that Smithing and Woodcrafting make furniture and safes. The Anvil lets you smith at home once you own a house and a 50,000-meso station slot (NiaMeowDB, via our housing guide). These fees are far higher than gear fees, so they're poor leveling crafts: the Reinforced Safe costs 300,000 mesos for 120 craft EXP.

Inputs from other crafts: Screws come from Weaponcrafting. Processed Leather comes from Leatherworking, as in our Leatherworking guide. Topaz, Garnet, Sapphire, Emerald, Opal and Black Crystal come from Arcforge (MapleStory Quest; our crafting guide). The release list has no Smithing body armor.

Level Smithing from 1 to 8

Both routes are our math. Each assumes a recipe pays full EXP at higher craft levels, which isn't confirmed. Ingot EXP is counted wherever a route smelts its own ingots. We also assume your character meets each gate, so EXP past a level-up carries into the next level. If it doesn't, add about one craft per level.

Route A: ingots, then the Pride chain (fewest mesos)

Craft Lv Craft Count Ore
1 Iron or Bronze Ingots 17 85
2 Mithril Ingots 28 140
3 Gold or Adamantium Ingots 36 180
4 Silver Ingots 43 215
5 Orihalcon Ingots 53 265
6 Bronze Pride → Steel Pride (6 Bronze + 3 Iron Ingots) 5 pairs 225
7 Same pair 6 pairs 270

Totals: 102,500 mesos in fees and 1,380 ore. Selling every ingot and Steel Pride back returns 72,800, for a net cost of about 29,700 mesos. In practice, keep the ingots for Weaponcrafting and your other crafts. Gold Ore is the easiest of the level 3 ores to find, since Adamantium has no recorded drop.

Route B: shop-helmet upgrades (least farming)

Craft Lv Craft Count
1 Metal Koif 2
2 Steel Helmet 4
3 Steel Full Helm 5
4 Steel Football Helmet or Iron Viking Helm 6
5 Mithril Sharp Helm 6
6–7 Pride pairs 4 + 6 = 10

Totals: 71,100 mesos in fees plus 62,000 for Harry's base helmets. Reselling the results returns 33,000, for a net cost of about 100,100 mesos. Ore: 405 Iron, 150 Mithril and 300 Bronze.

Planet-helper's 1–10 estimates run from −38,220 (fewest mesos) to −438,490 (fewest materials) (our crafting guide). Levels 9 and 10 can't be reached yet, so only the first part of those routes applies.

Example: a level 26 Warrior has 300 Iron Ore and 200 Bronze Ore banked from Perion's stumps. He smelts Route A's Iron and Bronze Ingots to level 2, keeps 20 of each, and at craft level 3 spends 100,000 mesos on an Anvil for his house instead of selling the ingots. The Anvil gives only 60 craft EXP, so he treats it as a purchase, not a leveling step.

For alts and returning players

  • Warrior mains: see our Warrior guide and Fighter guide for which helmets matter. Smithing pairs with Weaponcrafting for Warriors (planet-helper).
  • Bank ore while leveling: Stumps, Dark Stumps, Blue Snails and Axe Stumps on the way to Perion all drop ore (wiki).
  • Returning from original MapleStory: Classic World swaps the old Free Market ingot economy for a craft each character levels (our crafting guide).
  • Tailoring overlap: Tailoring shoes and robes also take ingots. See our Tailoring guide.
  • Gear guides: our shields guide covers the Tower Shield upgrade, our shoes guide compares the War Boots with other jobs' shoes, and our spears and polearms guide covers the crafted polearms.

What changed for Smithing at Grand Launch

Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) changed Smithing in three ways (henesys.gg; NiaMeowDB; Nexon):

Change What it means
New Anvil recipe at craft level 3 Smith at home once you own a house
Five metal furniture recipes (lights, wardrobe, Rustic Bed, Reinforced Safe) A second use for Iron and Bronze Ingots
GM event Magic Boxes give 15 of a refining ore A new, random source of Adamantium Ore
Crafting still stops at craft level 8 The 9 level 10 recipes, such as the Crusader Helm and Hildon Boots, stay locked

Gear recipes, fees and the EXP table didn't change. Housing itself is new: you need Henesys or Kerning City citizenship at Visitor grade to buy a home (Nexon). Our patch notes tracker lists every other change, and the MapleStory Classic hub collects every guide for the game.

FAQ

Where do I learn Smithing in MapleStory Classic?

From Silas Irons in Perion, at level 10. Defeat 20 Stumps and 20 Dark Stumps and bring 5 Bronze Ore (MapleStory Quest).

How many ore make an ingot?

Five, for every metal. The fee runs from 100 mesos (Bronze, Iron) to 500 (Orihalcon) (MapleStory Quest).

What is the max Smithing level in MapleStory Classic?

Craft level 8 in v1.0.0. The level 10 recipes, such as the Crusader Helm and Hildon Boots, are in the data but can't be crafted yet (MapleStory Quest; NiaMeowDB).

How do I make an Anvil in MapleStory Classic?

Reach Smithing 3, then craft it from 10 Iron Ingots, 10 Bronze Ingots, 5 Processed Wood and 20 Screws for a 100,000-meso fee (NiaMeowDB). Place it in your house's crafting-station slot.

Do I need Smithing to learn Weaponcrafting?

Yes. Mr. Thunder takes you on only after Silas Irons has (our crafting guide, citing meowdb).

What's the cheapest way to level Smithing?

By our math, smelting ingots up to level 5 and then crafting Bronze-to-Steel Pride pairs. On the release EXP table, that costs about 29,700 mesos net if you sell the output, but it takes about 1,380 ore.
