THE GUIDE

Quick summary

  • Mano is a level 20 snail boss with 7,420 HP and 148 EXP. It spawns once on Thicket Around the Beach III, four maps east of Lith Harbor (MapleClassic Wiki, NiaMeowDB, Metaroad).
  • The game timer is 1 hour. Live respawns can run to about 90 minutes, which is a community estimate. The 30-minute figure in some guides comes from the first closed test (NiaMeowDB, Metaroad).
  • Below 90% HP, Mano calls 4 Snails and 2 Red Snails every 10 seconds, up to 30 adds. A slow kill turns into a crowded one (NiaMeowDB).
  • It hits only by touch, for up to about 377–380 damage. It's auto-aggressive and walks back and forth on its own floor.
  • Go solo at level 20, or in a party around 15 (Metaroad). Bring enough accuracy, since the sources disagree on how much that is.

Checked against the Founder's Access build on October 13, 2026. Grand Launch is October 21, 2026; see the end of the guide for what may change.

Find Mano

Metaroad's route from Lith Harbor:

Step Map Notes
1 Lith Harbor Start in town
2 Right Around Lith Harbor Head right (east)
3 Thicket Around the Beach I Keep going right
4 Thicket Around the Beach II Keep going right
5 Thicket Around the Beach III Mano's map. It shares the map with Snails, Red Snails, Stumps and Orange Mushrooms.

NiaMeowDB and the wiki both list a single Mano on the map, and Thicket Around the Beach III is its only spawn. NiaMeowDB lists the map at a 1.5x mob rate, with Mano as 1 of its 35 monster spawns.

Metaroad says most players meet Mano "usually by accident, while doing the Lith Harbor quests one map too far." If you've just left Maple Island, our Maple Island guide covers the route up to Lith Harbor.

A few of these change how you fight:

  • Knockback 1,400 means only a hit of 1,400 damage or more staggers it, for 0.6 seconds (NiaMeowDB). Most level 20 characters won't hit that hard, so expect Mano to keep walking into you.
  • Damage reduction is lower for magic (9% vs 17%, per henesys.gg), so magic loses less to Mano's defense.
  • It heals 74 HP per tick. NiaMeowDB doesn't give the tick interval. Over a long fight, that adds up.
  • HP per EXP is 50.14, which NiaMeowDB ranks #161 of 182 monsters. Metaroad says "bosses are for drops, not EXP": regular monsters pay far more EXP per HP.

Know what Mano does

NiaMeowDB lists three mob skills plus the summon. It labels each effect "likely," based on the skill data, so treat the effects as datamined, not tested:

Skill What it likely does Timing and reach
Slow (Lv 1) Lowers your movement speed Lasts 5 sec, every 60 sec, 100% chance, reaches 600 × 240 px
Physical defense up (Lv 1) Raises nearby monsters' physical defense Lasts 30 sec, every 10 sec, reaches 600 × 400 px
Magic defense up (Lv 1) Raises nearby monsters' magic defense Lasts 30 sec, every 10 sec, reaches 600 × 400 px
Summon monsters (Lv 2) Calls 4 Snails and 2 Red Snails Starts below 90% HP (6,678 HP left), every 10 sec, up to 30 summons

Other behavior, all from NiaMeowDB:

  • Auto-aggressive: it attacks on sight.
  • Stays on its floor: it walks back and forth on the platform it spawned on.
  • Touch zone: 102 × 80 px. Mano has no ranged or magic attack, which Metaroad confirms: "He only hurts you by running into you."
  • Skill animation: a 750 ms telegraph, then a 1.5 sec cycle.

The summon is the part most guides skip. Once you take Mano below 90%, six adds arrive every 10 seconds. At that rate, the 30-add cap fills in about 50 seconds. That's our arithmetic from NiaMeowDB's numbers. Adds aren't dangerous at level 20, but they body-block melee and soak single-target hits. Kill fast, or bring an attack that hits several targets.

Check your accuracy

The two sources disagree here. Plan for the higher number.

Your level NiaMeowDB: accuracy to never miss Metaroad: accuracy to never miss
20 44 31
15 52 37
10 61 42

Metaroad adds that being under the boss's level costs damage, too: "five levels under takes about 11% off every hit, and ten under takes a third." It also says Magicians "get far less accuracy per point than the other classes." Our accuracy guide has the formula and job differences.

Count your hits

Mano has 7,420 HP. This table is plain arithmetic, rounded up. It doesn't model misses, the 74 HP regen, or the defense buff:

Damage per hit (after Mano's reduction) Hits to kill
100 75
200 38
300 25
500 15
800 10

To use it, take your damage from a regular monster near level 20. For weapon attacks, take off about 17% (henesys.gg's figure). Then read the row. If the hit count times your MP cost per attack is more than your MP pool plus the potions you're willing to drink, bring a party. maplestory-classic.com's Mano guide uses the same check: HP ÷ damage, then MP and potions. Our potions guide compares potions by meso value.

Pick a plan by class

These plans apply the stats above. They're our reading, not tested clears:

Class at level 20 Approach Why
Warrior Melee it with Power Strike. Use Slash Blast on adds once the summons start. Touch damage up to 377 means you'll trade hits. Bring HP potions.
Magician Hit it from range with Magic Claw or Energy Bolt. Magic loses only 9% to Mano's reduction. Check accuracy, since Magicians get less per point (Metaroad).
Bowman Kite and shoot along the floor. Mano is slow (Speed −40) and only hurts on touch. It can't follow you off its floor.
Thief Throw Lucky Seven from range. Same reasoning as Bowman: stay out of the 102 × 80 px touch zone.
Party around Lv 15 Split the jobs: one player clears adds, the rest focus Mano. Metaroad's party suggestion. Being 5 levels under costs about 11% damage.

Two things apply to every class. First, Mano casts Slow on you, so a kiting plan loses speed for 5 seconds out of every 60. Second, Mano may buff its own defense every 10 seconds (NiaMeowDB says "likely"), so short fights beat long ones.

Time the respawn

Source Respawn Notes
NiaMeowDB 1 hour base timer in map data; live window 1 to 1.5 hours Labels the window "unconfirmed" and says "channel surfing matters"
Metaroad Boss Timer Game timer 1 hour; 60–90 minute window The closing end is "a community estimate, not confirmed"
MapleClassic Wiki (Oct 12) 60 minutes —
henesys.gg 1 hour —
Metaroad bosses guide 1 hour First closed test was 30 minutes
maplestory-classic.com (Oct 11) 30 minutes (1,800 sec) Built on wiki data synced Oct 1

Plan around the 1-hour game timer. NiaMeowDB says the game "tops up monsters on a short cycle (about 7.5 seconds)", and Metaroad gives the same figure, so a spawn can land a few seconds after the mark. With one Mano per channel, the practical plan is a channel rotation:

  1. Kill Mano on one channel and note the time.
  2. Move to the next channel and check Thicket Around the Beach III.
  3. Repeat across a few channels. Come back to the first one about 60 minutes after the kill, and expect it as late as 90.

NiaMeowDB and Metaroad both have browser-based boss timers that start from the kill you record. Between checks, train on the regular monsters. Our training guide lists better EXP spots for levels 15–25.

Know the drops

Drop What it is Source
Rainbow-colored Snail Shell Use (quest) item: "A special shell only found through Mano. Apparently it's powerful enough to grant a wish..." Sells for 100 mesos, stacks to 200, tradeable. Wiki item page. Metaroad: "only Mano drops" it.
Scroll Crafting Stimulator Etc item: used while crafting scrolls, it gives "a chance to produce an Intermediate, Greater, or Chaos scroll of the same category." Wiki item page. maplestory-classic.com lists it as a Mano drop.

No source we checked publishes a drop rate or quantity. The wiki item pages for both say "No source has been recorded for it yet," and henesys.gg lists no drops. NiaMeowDB's confirmed-drop list is crowd-voted by players.

NiaMeowDB also shows an "MSEA reference" list of 20 items: Sunrise Dew, Green Apple, several Intermediate and Greater scrolls, Subi Throwing Stars, Gold Burgonet Helm, Red Wizardry Hat and Black Wind Shoes. It labels that list "historical reference only," from old MapleSEA drop tables. Don't farm Mano for any of them until players confirm them in Classic World.

The Stimulator matters if you plan to craft scrolls. Our crafting guide covers scroll crafting.

See what changed since the closed test

NiaMeowDB's change history shows Mano was retuned at launch:

Stat COT2 Launch
HP 7,560 7,420
Touch damage stat (P.DMG) 101 252
Magic DEF 30 10
Accuracy 101 97
Knockback threshold 1 1,400
HP recovery 10 74

The big one is touch damage, which went from 101 to 252. If you fought Mano in the test at level 15, it hits much harder now. It also stopped flinching from every hit (knockback 1 → 1,400).

Plan alts and returning players

  • Returning from the first closed test? The timer is 1 hour now, not 30 minutes (Metaroad), and Mano hits much harder (NiaMeowDB).
  • Returning from old MapleStory? Don't assume old MapleSEA or GMS drop tables carry over. NiaMeowDB keeps its MSEA list separate for that reason.
  • Leveling an alt? Mano pays 148 EXP for 7,420 HP. Metaroad's advice applies: kill it for the shell or for fun, and level on regular monsters. Our bosses guide covers the next bosses.
  • Short on time? Our MapleStory Classic hub and powerleveling page cover the options.

What may change at Grand Launch

This guide describes the Founder's Access build as it was on October 13, 2026. Re-check these against Nexon's Grand Launch notes on October 21: whether crafting still stops at craft level 8, whether Forgotten Hollow, Orbis and third jobs stay closed, KPQ channel limits, NPC shop stock, and any Founder's Access-only events or packages mentioned here. Nothing here assumes a closed area or feature will open.
